    "pistachio" latte
    Azka A.

I don't know why I just can't get behind Santos :( Have yet to have an actually good drink from any of their locations. This one was probably the worst however. Was advertised as a pistachio latte but literally just tasted like milk. No pistachio flavor whatsoever and didn't even taste like there was espresso/coffee in it. For the price we expected more.

    Savory bowl (add turkey)

I've been to Santos multiple times before, although this was my first visit to this location. Ultimately, I love this coffee shop and am usually pleased with pricing/quality. Today I stopped in for breakfast and ordered the savory bowl-add turkey. They turkey was a slab of lunch meat atop of some rice, an egg, tomatoes, arugula, cheese, and a bit of avocado. It wasn't bad but just kinda bland. It came with a spicy mayo on the side, but I'm not the biggest fan of mayo so I added hot sauce instead. They serve an assortment of pastries from local bakeries, so I probably would've been more satisfied with what I ordered if I chose that instead (and would've paid less). I felt bad for the workers, as they were clearly understaffed. There were two people working and one of them said it was their first day. I don't want my review to paint this coffee shop in a bad light. I'm definitely going to keep returning here, but I probably won't order the savory bowl again...

What a nice surprise, a local coffee shop! There's some parking in front and along the side. Seating both inside and outdoors. The inside was neat and clean. There is a living wall that was gorgeous !! However there is a table in front and two ladies sitting directly in front of it on their laptops, so I was not able to take a photo of it and really enjoy the best decor of this location. However the pastries were great! I got chai latte with non-dairy milk and a bacon egg & cheese Crepe-- had to give my friend half the bacon because there was legit about 5-6 full pieces of bacon in it! ! The aioli on the crepe was also divine even though it was a breakfast crepe! Thank you. This location used to be a Starbucks, so I'm hoping this santos location finds better business than they did.

    Cold Brew

Amazing environment to study or work in, but the coffee is hit or miss. I recently ordered a cold brew but am not sure if I can even finish it because of the bitter, almost sour taste. I'm not picky about food or drinks, but the cold brew is not an item I would recommend to anyone. Great service, but a waste of $6. Update: I tried powering through and finishing the drink, but I didn't make it past 3 sips. Very acidic and repulsive to drink.

Cute little coffee shop. Very spacious with a variety of seating. Lots of folks on their laptops working but not overtaking the space. Menu is decent and a couple of unique flavors like basil lavender and pistachio. Customer service was quick and friendly. Noticed the music was interesting sometimes it's folky pop but other times we heard traditional classical.

Set within walking distance of the Botanical Gardens amd the Jemison Trail, Santos Coffee is my go to coffee shop. I love the Sugar Free Iced Americano! They carry pastries from Last Call Baking which are fantastic and have great breakfast sandwiches! The employees are very personable and always remember my name and order!

    Strawberry, Nutella, banana crepe

This is my second time here via a recommendation from my mom and I absolutely love it. Firstly, it's on the corner in Mountain Brook where Starbucks used to be and has the chillest atmosphere. Seating is comfortable with plenty of space to hang out with friends, relax, and/or do some work. Next, the sweet girl at the counter was helpful and patient while I tried to go over their menu and figure out what I wanted to order. Lastly, they have plenty of different options for everyone in regards to coffee, smoothies, juices, breakfast, and lunch. I wound up getting a strawberry/banana smoothie and a strawberry/banana/nutella crepe. I make crepes at home and they're my absolutely favorite breakfast item and this one did not disappoint by any means, I must admit though, I wish it had more strawberries and less Nutella but I'm sure that can be rectified the next time I come and order it. The only downside I see to this place is the lack of drive through but that is probably because I'm always on the go and this is the first morning in a while I had time to just sit and relax during my breakfast. There's also not exactly a good place for a drive thru so I'm not mad about it. All in all: LOVE!

There wasn't line when we got there but the crowd usually follows us for some reason so by the time we left there was standing room only and a line out the door. The bakery items were very fresh and tasty. I loved the Swedish gingerbread cookies - light and crisp. The lemon bar was delicious. They also have sandwiches that liked really good. Coffee - I got a vanilla latte extra sweet (no lavender) and my daughter said it was one of the best. I thought it was pretty good. I would go again when back in Birmingham!

Nestled in the Mountain Brook area, it's a little hard to see but is right next to Chez Lulu, which I think is a sister restaurant. Parking is a little tricky but manageable. I got there fairly late so the selection was a bit picked over, but I still got a good array of treats to bring home. Service was a touch slow but friendly. They were fairly busy. There's no room to eat inside or outside that I could discern; it's exclusively a take and go type of place. I got two pecan sandies to share with my parents, who were along for the ride, and then a cardamom bun and a peanut butter cookie for later. Sadly, I don't feel like any of the pastries really wowed. The pecan sandies were a little too dry (even as sandies go) and the pecans didn't taste toasted nor were they especially plentiful. The peanut butter cookie was the best thing, though it too was a little on the dry side - nice PB flavor though. I straight up didn't like the cardamom bun. The cardamom flavor was completely overwhelming, to the point it wasn't sweet at all, and instead tasted almost medicinal. The texture was nice but I couldn't finish it. Perhaps I arrived too late to order their specialties. I know they specialize in European goodies so if I return I'll make sure to try a croissant or something similar.

A bold claim, no? Maybe that's all you need to know... but I love writing about coffee shops so don't stop here. I love real deal coffeehouses (yes, in a house) and it's so cozy in here. I didn't stay to work because every seat was taken both times I came in (late morning), so get here early or perhaps late, if you want a seat in the middle of the week. The baristas couldn't be nicer. They took their time and chatted with customers, a rarity in those crowded coffee chains. Do check out those seasonal lattes (I mean, for February, a cherry blossom latte? Say less). My favorite is on the regular menu, a salted rosemary latte and it's literally perfect. I adjusted the sweetness level to be less so, and I loved the notes of floral rosemary and coffee. Pro tip: skip the line and order ahead!

The bran muffin, which was my attempt to be healthy, was really a delicious stand-out. I would definitely get that again. And, of course, the breakup cookies are some of the best cookies in town. They bake all of the baked goods in-house, I believe, which gets a round of applause from me. A lot of the recipes are still the same ones I remember from 7 years ago. One thing I noticed that's even BETTER than I remember was the books and gift selection. A lot of the books caught my eye. It's a great curation of fiction, non, memoirs, birding books, children's, etc. They also carry the Village Apothecary candles, which are made locally and have some packaging I really love. Church Street is one of the Birmingham staples. I hope they're open for a million more years. They do what they do exceptionally well.
