While I probably wouldn't order *The Southern* again, I'm definitely interested in coming back to try the **Bootlegger** or **First Lady**--both sounded much more up my alley. The standout of my visit was the customer service. The staff was incredibly friendly, patient, and genuinely invested in helping me find something I'd enjoy. They asked thoughtful questions about my flavor preferences and made recommendations instead of just taking my order, which I really appreciated. They sell Proud Mary Coffee, as well as Rowan Coffee Roasters (which they currently use for drinks). The cold brew was much more up my alley, very strong and dark and it was great without any syrup or creamer. I love the interior of the shop and the sense of comfort you get being in there. They had a ton of coffee beans And I asked the owner which would be the best dark roast and he picked one out for me that's been pretty good so far (although not as dark as I expected). Any time I'm traveling, I like to try the cortado or an equivalent drink at a shop like this, and I'm happy to say Filter's would rank in the top 10, maybe top 5. The quality and freshness of the beans was obvious from the rich, thick crema on my drink and the milk was steamed just the way I like it. There's a fair amount of seating inside, charming decor, and my drink came out to me very quickly on a Wednesday morning around 8am.

However, there were lots of people inside when we arrived on Saturday morning about 9:30. There is an outdoor patio with tables and umbrellas for anyone that loves the steamy southern heat. Inside, the huge windows provide an abundance of natural light, which I love. As someone who also loves photography, it provides some great lighting and reflections. The menu is on the short side, but they do have a variety of options of drinks, along with a few select pastries. I opted for the basic drip coffee, which had great flavor and was smooth, like I like it. My son got the latte and enjoyed it as well. When Ethan brought our order to the table, I was surprised to see the drinks in actual mugs, rather than disposable cups. They were also smaller mugs, which was disappointing. However, Ethan turned my disappointment into surprise and delight when he said we had free refills! I don't know if this is their usual rule or he offered free refills due to the brief delay in getting our order. The crowd was mixed on this Saturday morning. I saw young individuals studying, a young family with their baby, an older couple enjoying conversation, and everything in between. The restrooms are down a hallway in back. They're very nice and clean. Ethan told me that they share the restrooms with four other businesses in the building. I love the open space , the lighting, the friendly staff and the delicious coffee here. I definitely want to come back at nighttime and see what it looks like with the indoor lighting!
