On our last day in Birmingham we finally found a good coffee shop. The staff member was sociable. Great coffee a must try when in the area.

Five stars feels inadequate--Filter is the place for coffee bliss. My favorite is their Black Cherry Mocha, an out-of-this-world treat with frothy, rich notes of chocolate and cherry. Trust me, it goes down easy. This is my favorite coffee shop in the Birmingham area!

I was here on 01/06/24 to get a Cortado. The service was cool. The inside of the coffee shop is very casual , open space and relaxing. I sat upstairs mainly because I was curious. The upstairs space has lots of additional seating and there's board games as well. The location is very ideal but parking will likely be an issue. Depending on when you plan your visit. If you are wondering, the Cortado was okay. It did the job! I didn't order anything else but there were some pastries on display. I do believe they have other food options as well. This was my first time visiting Filter. Another one off my coffee shop bucket list. This is fun!

This is one of the best coffee shops I have been to! The place is cute, staff is friendly, and the drinks were absolutely amazing! I got the iced pumpkin spice matcha and it certainly did the trick for me to get into the "fall" mood. It wasn't overly sweet and honestly very well made. Shout out to the wonderful baristas for making such a wonderful drink. Great place to study, catch up with friends, or just to enjoy the vibe!

The feel inside here is perfect. I needed a place to sit and do work only laptop and this place was great for that. The servers were nice the moment I walked inside and handed me my coffee very quickly. The places to sit and chill and work are all nice and comfortable too. I wanted to order something to eat but I had just eaten so I just grabbed a simple coffee. The coffee was good though.

Drinks here were so unique and the staff was super kind in helping my friend and I decide what to get. Quite spacious inside so if you wanna chat with friends or do some work, this is the place

I had high hopes for this coffee shop, but it was fine. Not amazing. Not disgusting. Just fine. I love great coffee, so this was a little disappointing. It was a little self-important calling their mochas "cioccolatos" The location is lovely. The inside was also beautiful. I like really warm, friendly people, and my barista was not that. Maybe he was having a bad morning. This place is cute enough that I'd give it another shot on the off chance that today they just weren't at their best.

I remember when this place was a Starbuck's for the longest time. Although I miss the Starbuck's very much, Filter has been doing a great job in it's place! I've been here twice now and my most recent visit was this past week. I went with my friend Mackenzie. It's downtown so we had to search for a space, but we were able to find a meter not too terribly far away. I'm a sucker for iced coffee no matter how cold it is outside. I got the iced vanilla cardamom. It was delicious! They have a lot of festive Christmas flavors too that looked intriguing. The inside is very cute. A great place to work, study, or just chat with friends. I highly recommend Filter!

Such a lovely coffee shop that's walking distance from my research building! A friend recommended we go here a while back and I was happily surprised with how much I loved Filter. Reminded me of a place in New York. The menu offers a plentiful variety of coffees, teas and more that I had a hard time deciding what to get- it all looked so good. The seasonal gingerbread latte delivered- was spiced perfectly and extremely smooth all throughout. The extra gingerbread biscuit on the side was a nice treat as well! Baristas were extremely kind to us as we ordered:) We stayed in the downstairs sitting area, which I really loved, but having now seen pictures of the upstairs I know that I'll definitely be going back to study up there!

Hot Caffeinated Bee coffee from Filter.

This is my favorite coffee shop in Birmingham! The staff are always very nice and helpful. Coffee is always DELICIOUS. There is indoor and outdoor seating if you don't want to take your coffee to go with some local retail items for sale inside. They have some food, but the only food item I ever ordered personally from Filter was the lemon blueberry scone and it was very good. My drink choice is usually the Caffeinated Bee with oat milk or whole milk if I don't try a seasonal selection. I order it hot, but you can also order any of their drinks iced. My husband gets them iced. They usually make cute designs in the foam for the hot coffees and I have included some pictures with this post. For coffee they have a wide selection of drinks and variations of milk products/substitutes. They also rotate some seasonal items on their menu. I really like how they don't over sweeten their beverages and the coffee is always just the right temperature for drinking as soon as you get it. They do a punch card loyalty program so make sure to pick one up when you visit. The only issue to note, is that parking in five points (the area where Filter is located) is not great. I work a couple blocks away so I just walk so this hasn't been an issue for me, but depending on the time/day parking can be tricky. Overall excellent local coffee shop. Drop in to support such an excellent and friendly local business with amazing coffee.

I came here to catch up with a great friend from high school! The space is the old Revelator Coffee…read moreshop (RIP, what happened to them?) but certainly lives up to their predecessor! The vibe here is different from the one out in Cahaba Heights, much more industrial chic. I'm on a quest to try every single local coffee shop in Birmingham, and I am never disappointed. I ordered from their special winter menu the iced minty matcha, which was fantastic. The mint was not too overpowering, super tasty. This is such a great spot! Definitely a more social coffee shop, from what I gathered on this Saturday morning. I always dread parking down here and then never have trouble. It's right across from the Alabama Theatre, so if there's nothing going on there, street parking is a breeze.

I was specifically super excited to try their seasonal matcha special, which was made with horchata (also from Salud!) and strawberries, if I recall correctly. Unfortunately, we walked in only to find they were out of the supplies needed to make the drink. :( I was caught off guard and didn't know what to order, but the barista recommended a latte with maple flavor so I went with that. The interior was clean and spacious and had a relaxed and calm but energetic feeling to it. Good place to hang out or work quietly. There's a self-service area to spruce up or fix your drink or grab lids or stir sticks. Service was nice and my drink came out quickly. It was pretty good but not really the "right" drink for me. I like my stuff on the sweet side and this was much more balanced and coffee-forward. That said, it held its own against my sugar-craving taste buds and I drank most of it, which is usually the hallmark of good brew, lol. I don't really blame them because I blanked on what to order and just went with what was suggested. It's probably a great suggestion for lots of other folks! Would be happy to come back and try a different beverage. Seems like a nice place overall. :)

Tyler was great with helping make my selection of drink and I loved how patient he was with assisting on the order. The feel of the space was very comfortable and welcoming to creatives. I love the location and how it is in walking distance to so many things. Thankfully I was able to find a parking spot across the street and didn't have to pay to park. Basic. is the store sharing the space and it is nice to be able to browse their inventory while waiting for your drinks. They have some things that I have not seen anywhere else if I had to compare it to another store I would compare it to Earth Bound. Everything seemed to be environmentally conscious which is always nice to see.

It's located right along 2nd Ave amongst all of the restaurant hubbub. Street parking, but if you're willing to take a stroll for a couple blocks, it's easy. This is one of the busier coffee shops in town, I would advise against seeking silence here. It's a shared space with "basic," a vintage clothing and art retailer which has awesome things made by local people. The people that worked there were so friendly. I came because I had to get that crème brûlée latte. It did not disappoint. One of the most delicious coffee drinks I've had in a long time. It tasted like a hug, perfectly caramel sweet, and fun to drink. It's not often that coffee gets turned into an interactive experience. The pastries looks great. The couch in the front window looked like an awesome spot to post up with some buddies. There were plenty of tables and chairs to work at. I will most certainly be back.

Colorful furniture, eclectic paintings, and musical instruments hanging on the walls give it a creative, artsy feel -- like they actually get used by a local band after hours.
