I love the layout of this place with the wherehouse look. I felt like you had to have a secret code to get in. I just landed at the airport and came for a meeting but if I lived in Birmingham this would be my go place for health meal and if didn't want to eat to heathty they have options for everyone. I was looking at brunch sausage burger, I think the shrimp and grits looked good. I also looked at the salmon burger and if I wanted a salad I would have gotten the maple chicken Salad. If I had not flown from Los Angeles I would have for sure picked the Vanilla cinnamon French toast but I would have fallen asleep and been done. I found these from looking at the yelp photos and other people orders before my friend came. I got the smash burger and really enjoyed it. You can get it with vegan options but the winner for the day was the biscuit board with all the toppings. Also everyone was so friendly Amber was our waitress and she was very attentive asked me if we needed anything all the time. I almost got it to go but I'm SO glad I slowed down and enjoyed in house because I would've missed out on the huge, glorious mug it was served in. The Rosemary Honey Latte was divine and the Biscuit Board made for a perfect snack. Four mini biscuits with butter, honey mascarpone, whipped feta and apricot preserves. Caroline was the sweetest server and made fabulous suggestions. I went to the downtown Homewood location and parking was not ideal - I had to park across the street and back out into oncoming traffic. There are other spots around that would be easier to maneuver but were all taken. Not the best parking but not the worst I've seen either. Love it here and will be back! read more

I stopped by Frothy Monkey in Birmingham after hearing good things about their shrimp and grits. I went in the early afternoon, around 2:30-2:40 PM, and ordered the shrimp and grits along with a Hugo Spritz. They didn't have the full Hugo Spritz mix available, so I was served what tasted like just Prosecco instead. It was fine, the service was okay. The shrimp and grits themselves were good overall. The dish comes with blackened shrimp and andouille sausage. I don't eat sausage, so I skipped that part, but the shrimp were flavorful and well-cooked. My main critique is that the dish was very oily--more oil than I personally prefer--which took away a bit from the experience. Would I go back again? I'm not completely sure, but I'm glad I tried it. Party of five (Myself included) visited there today--- 6/14/26, around 11:30 am. The vibe is good, yet for brunch we still waited a while, though it appeared seating was available, if a couple of tables had been combined. But they didn't. Also, the service was very, very slow today for some reason. We were visiting from Atlanta, and this place had been recommended by local Birmingham friends (two of whom were with us today.) They also were a bit disappointed in the overall experience. The drinks were all slow in being brought to the table, and not all at the same time.... (just sparadically.) And though the food was very good, each person's plate was not delivered at around the same time. One person's was not delivered at all, and eventually the server cam over to say that though the order was put in, the cook had unfortunately not started on it, and it would be delayed another 20 minutes or so.... which put all of us in a dilemma, as to go ahead and start, or continue to wait. I had asked the bartender to comp a second drink for that guest, and she said she would. However, another 30 minutes went by and not comp drink, nor food. When his order was finally delivered, the server apologized and said that they could not comp a bar beverage, but that they would comp his meal. So, with all that said. I don't think i would go back, nor recommend this place. Too bad, as it certainly has great potential for being a popular brunch place in downtown Birmingham. But not the case today. read more

Lovey experience in downtown Bham! My friend and I both got the iced green tea and it was *astounding* with oatmilk. Loved the chips and salsa more than the sandwich, but would get it again. Service was a little long winded at first, another client was waiting for their check for over 15-20 minutes until it was brought to them, but after that period it picked up. I've probably been to Frothy Monkey a dozen times--both in Birmingham and Nashville--and it's consistently just okay. The menu is diverse, which makes it a decent option for groups since there's something for everyone. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was disappointing. A couple of friends and me came here for Sunday brunch. It was busy so there was about a 40 min wait. This wasn't a horrible wait and actually went by pretty fast. The hostess guy got us seated in a comfortable corner table. The inside of this spot is really cool and very inviting. There's also bar seating and even outdoor patio seating in the rear. Very nice. We received good service but there were some points where it was kind of slow. No biggie. My friends ordered omelets , one friend had a chicken dish and I had the smash burger. The food was fresh and well prepared. My burger could have used more salt; I still enjoyed. My friends ordered coffee drinks to which they liked too. I had 2 mimosas .. they were cool. As I'm vegan I decided to review their brunch menu prior to going. I got The Be Hive Bowl. I was very disappointed in this option. To be fair they were out of the vegan sausage Pattie so I subbed for the quinoa patty. But still the vegetables were not very good, the cheese and uncooked kale felt out of place. Thankfully the service made up for the meal. The staff was very polite and removed the item from my bill although I offered to pay for it! If I wasn't vegan they'd get a higher rating from me. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere. I had a lot of faith in this meal - Frothy Monkey seems to be the only restaurant in downtown Birmingham with dedicated vegan options for brunch so please for the sake of the vegan community step it up! I was a little disappointed in this place because people kept suggesting that we try it. We went on a Sunday before It was crowded. Quite a few empty tables at the time we dined in. The service was extremely slow. We didn't get our coffee until the meals came out some time later and we ordered a biscuit board, but that also never came out. We tried the salmon sandwich, the smash burger, and the broadbend omelette. The salmon sandwich as a sandwich was not good but i thought the salmon piece on the sandwich was outstanding but as far as a sandwich, I thought the bread was not good for the sandwich same went for the Smashburger. The bread used did not suit the Smashburger. The broadbend omelette though tasty was seriously lacking in filling. Yelp! Amazing breakfast. We had a sisters sleepover and walked around from the Airbnb to Frothey Monkey. We were seated at the window. It's early, but everyone is ready to serve. We decide on drinks. I got the Turtle Latte, Roxy got a fancy fire pot Chai and Jenny got the fancy Rosemary honey latte all hot. They all taste Amazing. We excited! We are a party of 4. Roxy got the Broadbent Omelette. As much as I wanted to give 5 stars, can't. Love this restaurant but today my latte was "warm" not hot as requested. Sad. Also bagels, cold, as were the biscuits. Neither came close to melting the butter! Also the top reason for a four was the dress of servers. Really? Booty cracks revealed? Again, really? Frothy monkey is in an adorable spot in Birmingham. The ambience of this location is lovely, with ample seating, cute coffee bar, and overall very vibey aesthetic. I ordered the Cali toast which was good but not great. My toast did come with an adequate amount of avocado (which I've seen can be variable based on other reviews!). However, I felt as though there was a lack of overall seasoning, and I ended up adding a healthy amount of salt & pepper. The mozzarella on my toast was chewy and without a lot of flavor. I went with friends who tried the bee hive bowl and a few of their specialty lattes. They said they enjoyed their meal and drinks! It was close to 4 stars for me because of ambience and quick service for brunch on Sunday morning, BUT I think I would not come back for the avocado toast so it'll be a 3 for me. "Did you pay up front?" Uhhhh. We were eating our croissant and had our to-go coffees in hand already so not sure why the server asked that question. A different employee had asked us a few minutes earlier if we needed something as we sat on the counter. Told her that we were waiting on our croissant as we'd been sitting there for a second. She asked us if we wanted it heated which seemed strange as we had asked for that when we paid for it. Makes me wonder about the communication that goes on. Which brings me to my next two points: 1. When we came in, we had a good impression as the place was nice and clean. However, it took forever for someone to take our order, even though there was someone there making coffee. Employees would walk by, see us there but not a "we'll be right with you" or other employees staying amongst themselves, "someone upfront!" 2. That should've been the first red flag. As we waited for some to take our order and after they finally took our order, we waited for our croissant as we drank our coffee, we noticed none of the employees looked happy, they all looked stressed. I mean, noone smiled and everyone in a hurry and quiet. Talk about bad vibes. Onto the food and drinks. Croissant was ok. Not flaky, but very elasticky, probably caused they nuked it instead of putting it in the over. Coffee drinks, the plume and Havana were super tasty but my cortado was ok. Ordered the chicken salad sandwich. It was decidedly short on chicken salad (barely 1scoop) that didn't even spread out anywhere near the edge of the bread! Not worth 1/2 the price it's listed for. The coffee was delicious- not burnt or over roasted like a lot of places. The Farm Breakfast came with two eggs, bacon or sausage, choice of toast, and grits. OMG it was delicious! I got the eggs scrambled, Benton's bacon (which was honestly more like slices of ham than bacon), whole grain toast with the most delicious strawberry preserves, and super luscious and creamy grits.
