Buttermilk Pancakes
Olivia G.

I'm still sitting at the table writing this because it is that good! We were road tripping through Birmingham and decided to hit up a local spot for breakfast. The pancakes live up to the hype! I got just a basic breakfast plate of eggs, ham (delicious) and the buttermilk pancakes. Yummmmm! The price was $12 but it was fixed fast and hot. If I ever come back to the city I'm definitely stopping by.

Came here twice in one weekend. I know I know super greedy right!! Wait time for seating was not long. Our server was pretty fast with getting to us and answering any questions that we had about it the menu. I tried the peaches and cream pancakes with the I believe meat lovers omelette. Both were great. I didn't finish the omelette, it was pretty huge. My friend had the bacon pancakes, grits and some scrambled eggs. He tore it up you all ! Safe to say, we shall be back for some other options.

This is the 2nd or 3rd time I've had a piece of hair in my food. No, it's not mine and no I didn't tell management. I probably should have. They should make their employees wear hair nets because obviously they do not. I'm usually always here on someone else's cravings, so I suffer through it. My food is usually good though and so is the service. But finishing my plate only to find hair at the bottom and underneath the food turns me off.

It's like your Waffle House experience but better! Of the two pancakes we ordered, we loved the blueberry pancakes the most. We also ordered eggs and bacon with our meal. Despite the busy crowd, our server was attentive, which really shows why this place is such a well-loved Birmingham staple.

- [ ] The Original Pancake House 1931 11th Ave (Trisha) Sunday morning - it was busy! We only had a 5 min wait - because staff here kept things organized and moving. Received friendly pleasant greeting and service from the host team. Trisha was our server and she charmed with her southern drawl and kept our coffee vibes flowing. The food was very good and reasonably priced. Just wanted something light to keep me going but not make me so full and sleepy. Went for the biscuit breakfast sandwich with egg, bacon & cheese, and it was a perfect size. Also got the Swedish pancakes but I couldn't finish all of it. Would come back in a heartbeat.

Went here have recently moving to the area and heard it was a staple here in Bham so decided to try it. Overall great experience, I went during the week later in the morning so it wasn't too busy and the service was fast. I got a pretty basic breakfast but it was all really good. I did think the pancakes were a little over hyped but I may have just gotten the wrong kind. Cool location and feels like an old school diner almost.

Great little breakfast spot and affordable for the area. We were visiting from out of town and found this spot. Delicious breakfast, bacon and eggs cooked perfectly. Loved the pancakes and grits too. We had a nice server who made sure we had all we needed. We would definitely recommend this place.

Announcing free veterans meal.

Lies, oh the lies...we came here on Veterans Day, under the belief that they had a menu for veterans and offering something for free like other place. We didn't just assume this, it was announced on the internet. Only after we were seated were we told that they do not and never have offered anything for veterans. Restaurant decor was bland and dated. The menu just thrown together. It took too long to get what we ordered and the price isn't worth it. However, the service was excellent.

Service was quicker and my server was kind. I did not enjoy the eggs as much as the bacon and pancakes. The bacon was cooked to perfection and the pancakes tasted delicious with the strawberries. I went during lunch time on a Tuesday and it wasn't crowded. I was in and out within 20 minutes

pancakes, eggs, vegan sausage

The Original Pancake House is a Birmingham classic, and for good reason! Their food is predictable, delicious, and well-priced. In addition to this, the staff is friendly and pretty flexible on accommodations. I visited on a Wednesday morning, and there were about 7 other tables filled. In the past, when I went on a weekend, I usually had to wait around 15-20 minutes for a table, so if you are able to, I recommend visiting on a weekday. Today I got the vegan sausage, eggs, and pancake combination. It came with two eggs, two pieces of sausage, and three pancakes, which was plenty of food. I ended up bringing home my leftover pancakes, and they heated up quite nicely in the microwave when I ate them later. They also provide ramekins for different sauces and syrups if you want to bring any home, which was very nice. Our server was very kind and proactive at refilling water, checking on us, and getting the check to us quickly, especially because he knew that we had to leave relatively quickly. I also love the ambiance of The Original Pancake House. The seating, artwork, and general atmosphere provide a sense of hominess and southern charm. The seating can be a bit cramped, and I think it's better to have party sizes less than eight, otherwise you may get turned away or have to sit at separate tables. Overall, I highly recommend The Original Pancake House, especially if you are taking someone who has never been to Birmingham before; it's a classic for a reason!

This location is in such a beautiful part of historical Birmingham. Every time that I've been there, it's always been busy. The staff are hard-working and provide great service. Our server this time was name Chris. He did an amazing job and made sure that we had a great breakfast service. The prices are a little bit higher than some of your breakfast places, but it's well worth it! Everybody's food was delicious and served hot. I hope to come back to this location and try lots of their great selections!

got the potato pancakes and it was great! the portions are huge and if we weren't traveling all day, i would have taken them to go. pancakes are also very good!

Some friends and I came here on a Saturday morning. Post workout so we were ready to do some damage!!! All of your party must be present before they will seat you. I added my name to a short list and we were seated shortly after my friends arrived. The hostess was pleasant and appeared to genuinely enjoy her job. Loved this! Our server, Tamikia was great and very efficient. She really did a good job taking care of our party of 3. She also offered a few recommendations. Everything on the menu looked good!!! Every.thing!!!! After much thought , I finally settled on the corn beef and hash with egg and instead of rye toast, I got pancakes. Excellent choice and no regrets! My friends enjoyed their meals as well. They had pecan pancakes, egg & sausage. Omelette and pancakes. (See pics) I did NOT enjoy the coffee. It fell totally flat and was a real disappointment. Other than this minor dissatisfaction, I really enjoyed my first trip here! I will definitely be back here soon.. Real soon!!!! The Original Pancake House is the OG!

There was a bit of a wait before my order was taken, but honestly, it worked out in my favor because it gave me plenty of time to look over the menu. There were so many tempting options that it was honestly hard to decide! I ultimately chose three items and enjoyed a few bites of each. Ham & Fontina Scone: This was my first time trying a scone, and I was pleasantly surprised. The texture reminded me of a dry biscuit, but the ham added a delicious savory flavor that I really enjoyed. Frittata Plate: The frittata was SO good! It wasn't too dry, and all of the flavors worked really well together. It was served with polenta, which reminded me of really fine grits, along with fruit. After trying it, I realized that one entrée would definitely be enough for me to enjoy on its own. Breakfast 'ZA: This was essentially a breakfast pizza topped with a fried egg, and the egg was such a nice touch. The 'ZA itself was really good, although I think adding something similar to a gravy or sauce would make it a little less dry. Even without it, though, the fried egg really took it to another level. Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso: I decided to try the Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso, which was the barista's pick. This was my first time having a shaken espresso, and I'm so glad I gave it a try! It was refreshing and perfect for a hot day. The inside of Trattoria ZaZa is nice, although it is somewhat small, so I opted to sit outside. It was a very warm day, but the awning provided plenty of shade and made the outdoor seating comfortable. I also appreciated that, even though the restaurant doesn't have traditional table service, someone periodically checked on me to make sure I didn't need anything else. Overall, I had a great brunch experience at Trattoria ZaZa. There were plenty of menu options, the food was flavorful, and I really enjoyed trying a few things that were new to me. I'd definitely be open to coming back and trying more of the menu!

I had the daily special, which was a broken lasagna. Also very, very good. Mixed greens on the side rounded out our table. The pizza looked very good and reminded us of pizza in a shop we love in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. It's walk up service, no ordering from your table, which was fine. The menu has a nice variety. The store is a downtown casual vibe. We probably should've opted for outdoor seating, because the evening was so nice.

I ordered the seafood pasta, and you could immediately tell the pasta was homemade. It was fresh, perfectly cooked, and the seafood was beautifully prepared. Our waitress also recommended the hummus and house pickles, and I'm so glad we listened. Both were fresh, unique, and the perfect way to start the meal. The interior has a nostalgic, warm vibe and would be a great setting for a date night. Our server was awesome! He was friendly, attentive, and recommended some great food and drink options. I also really enjoyed the open-kitchen concept, as I always like being able to see the food being prepared. My only concern was with a couple of things I noticed in the kitchen. Since the kitchen is completely open and visible to guests, I think extra attention should be given to sanitation and overall presentation. I noticed one of the cooks drinking while preparing food, and another wiped his nose with his arm while working. Although he didn't use his hand, it still left me feeling a little uneasy. When guests can see directly into the kitchen, those small details really matter. Aside from that, we enjoyed our experience, and I do think this is a place worth trying at least once. The atmosphere, service, and recommendations from our server were definitely highlights of our visit.

Harvest was one of the best dining experiences I had in Birmingham. One thing worth mentioning…read moreright away is that it's located inside the historic Redmont Hotel. That wasn't immediately obvious from many of the reviews I read beforehand, so don't let the hotel location deter you--this is a destination restaurant in its own right. I ordered the braised short rib (without the grits), and it was outstanding. The meat was incredibly tender, packed with flavor, and cooked to perfection. It easily ranks among the better short rib dishes I've had. The service was equally impressive. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and struck the perfect balance of being available without hovering. The dining room has an upscale yet comfortable atmosphere that makes it just as suitable for a business dinner as it is for a date night or special occasion. If you're visiting downtown Birmingham--or staying at the Redmont--don't overlook Harvest just because it's inside a hotel. It's proof that hotel restaurants can absolutely compete with the city's standalone dining scene. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Birmingham.
