Banana nut bread
Gabe P.

From placing my order by phone , picking up my order and enjoying my order... this was an excellent experience with IZ cafe! Nice and friendly customer service from start to finish! I really enjoyed the lemon pie so much! It was beautifully made & extremely delicious! Very creamy and tart! My favorite part was the graham cracker crust!! OMG, the crust was so thick and was the perfect foundation to hold all this yummy goodness of a pie! IZ cafe is a great place for desserts. I ordered a whole pie but they sell individual slices of cakes & pies. They also have precooked meals , sandwiches, salads , packaged snacks , banana nut bread , etc. Give them a try if you're looking to satisfy your sweet tooth. Speaking from experience, I don't think you'll be disappointed!

eggs salad with white bread
Seth M.

it's wasn't spectacular, but the staff was super friendly! there isn't much to choose from on the menu, they do have daily specials, but sometimes those can be sparse. it's good food, it's made excellent with great ingredients, i got egg salad on white bread and it came out exactly like i expected. the reason i gave it three stars is because of the limited menu, outside of the menu everything was great!

Carrot Cake

Their Carrot Cake is amazing and pretty much the only carrot cake I will eat. It's very moist. You can taste nuts and little pieces of carrots and the icing is just right. I usually order the whole cake for my birthday.

Expensive but worth it. Their roast beef sandwich with carmelized onions is one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Everything here is excellent from the house made sweet potato chips to the rocky road ice cream.

Breakfast and deli items are delicious. Why they don't offer bagels is beyond me. A little pricy. Otherwise a nice local spot to support.

There wasn't line when we got there but the crowd usually follows us for some reason so by the time we left there was standing room only and a line out the door. The bakery items were very fresh and tasty. I loved the Swedish gingerbread cookies - light and crisp. The lemon bar was delicious. They also have sandwiches that liked really good. Coffee - I got a vanilla latte extra sweet (no lavender) and my daughter said it was one of the best. I thought it was pretty good. I would go again when back in Birmingham!

Nestled in the Mountain Brook area, it's a little hard to see but is right next to Chez Lulu, which I think is a sister restaurant. Parking is a little tricky but manageable. I got there fairly late so the selection was a bit picked over, but I still got a good array of treats to bring home. Service was a touch slow but friendly. They were fairly busy. There's no room to eat inside or outside that I could discern; it's exclusively a take and go type of place. I got two pecan sandies to share with my parents, who were along for the ride, and then a cardamom bun and a peanut butter cookie for later. Sadly, I don't feel like any of the pastries really wowed. The pecan sandies were a little too dry (even as sandies go) and the pecans didn't taste toasted nor were they especially plentiful. The peanut butter cookie was the best thing, though it too was a little on the dry side - nice PB flavor though. I straight up didn't like the cardamom bun. The cardamom flavor was completely overwhelming, to the point it wasn't sweet at all, and instead tasted almost medicinal. The texture was nice but I couldn't finish it. Perhaps I arrived too late to order their specialties. I know they specialize in European goodies so if I return I'll make sure to try a croissant or something similar.

Known for its middle eastern style offerings including Yemeni coffee and other kinds of coffee (hot or iced), pastries, crepes, and ice cream you will find it hard to find something you won't like. The place itself is a relaxed environment where you could study or catch up with friends. I tried the iced Aden latte (espresso, milk, pistachio and lavender) and it's the best coffee off of lakeshore. None of the flavors were overpowering the others. I also ordered a biscoff crepe and a sabaya. The sabaya was flaky and crispy, smothered in delicious honey. It wasn't the thickest sabaya but I enjoyed it! The biscoff crepe was so decadent. The crepe itself was soft and chewy, the perfect texture for such a delicious crepe. The fruit given with it also paired well with the drizzled sauce. The customer service was awful, and the taste was honestly worse than boxed baklava you can buy from a grocery store. Very disappointing experience.

It ended up being perfect--sweet but not overly sweet, and really flavorful. I also signed up for their rewards program and got $5 off my first order, which was a nice bonus. I originally wanted to sit outside since the weather was so nice, but ended up sitting inside. Next time I'll try to get there earlier to grab an outdoor spot. Parking is pretty tight--the front lot is small--but I was lucky to find a spot, and I noticed some people parked on the surrounding streets. Overall, it was a really good experience and I'm excited to go back!

Unfortunately my go to order is an iced latte with skim milk and they don't have skim. I was hoping to get a little treat to go with my coffee but they were all piled on top of each other in the display case which made them look really unappealing. I am not talking croissants on croissants or muffins on muffins, I mean everything on top of each other which also makes me feel like options for people with allergies may be limited. The staff were really kind and the barista suggested 2% or almond milk as alternative options for me which was very kind but just not my favorite. The interior and outdoor seating are very cute. They have mini prints and larger prints for sale. I really think the larger prints would make a great locally made present! Ultimately, I don't think this is my spot due to dietary restrictions but it might be good spot for you.

I ordered the soba noodle bowl with cilantro avocado slaw. It's a bit spicy but i'd say that spice is more for the flavor and not unbearable, i don't like spicy at all but i'll tolerate this. The noodle bole includes low mean noodles, peanuts, red pepper flakes and can add chicken for an additional charge. It's right around $9.00 and again, for the amount of food, i'd probably want to just go to a restaurant and pick up take out so i wouldn't be hungry after the meal.

This was the first location of Baba Java and has since expanded through the city. Ran my Omani entrepreneurs, this little coffee shop became quite popular over the years. The owner clearly picked out incredible folks to be here who make Baba Java feel both welcoming and well kept. The interior of the space is fairly basic coffee shop design, but admittedly, a little bit dated in 2026 and lacks the unique vibe of some other independent coffee shops. Window views facing the strip mall parking lot don't create much of an ambiance either. With that said, design is not the main thing to come here for. The coffee is excellent and priced very reasonably, offering a great value for an establishment of this sort. There is easy to access WiFi and an overall feeling of being welcomed. My friends also said the Expresso Martini was way too strong. The staff was amazing and accommodating. The problem we had is that we had a group of 12 on Saturday at 10:30 for brunch. We called on Thursday for reservations which they don't take. They did tell us to have 2 or 2 people come in at 10:00 and they'd work to seat us. They knew we were coming and had a phone number if there was a problem. I received no call. We were provided a table for 8 at 10:30 with 2 two seater tables. This was not ok. The manager did work with us to scoot empty table to our large table so we could all sit together. Water was promptly provided and drink orders taken. Then food orders taken. Food came out before drinks. I know it's hard when there's a large group but I felt it should have been staffed appropriately knowing we were coming. Our group had a good time because we weren't rushed and we got to visit. For people that need to know, there's no handicap parking at all and we needed a spot. I am in a women's group that plans various brunch's lunches and dinners in the BIRMINGHAM area. One of the ladies made a reservation weeks ago so they knew that we were going to be at least a party of 12 to 14. It turned out to be about 12 when they got the tables together. There was just one full table of about eight people and then two other tables which weren't close to us so they ended up putting an extra table in so we could all sit together. Since it was a Saturday morning, it was pretty busy. Parking is a bit cumbersome. I pretty much had to make my own spot so that was a bit frustrating. I don't think I saw any handicap spots. I arrive there about 1015. We had to wait 15 minutes to get our table which wasn't too bad. When they came around to take our orders, we gave them our drink order and our food order. Several of us got some alcoholic beverages. I was a bit surprised that we didn't get our drinks until after we got our meals. I chose to get the vanilla French toast which came with spiced peaches, but I did not want that. I wanted strawberries which they told me they were out of. My friend next to me got a breakfast board and lo and behold. She had strawberries on there so I asked again for strawberries and the young man said they didn't have any and then I pointed to her board eventually I got strawberries and was charged five dollars for them, which I wasn't told before hand. I did get the espresso martini, which mostly tasted like vodka. It was very strong and not very tasty. Also, the glass was very small. It looked like they only had two bartenders if that you could definitely tell they were behind. All in all my experience, there was not very good. I don't think I will be back. I had a brunch plan there next month that I decided to change to a different location. Rachael was our server and she did you the best she could. She had no control over the drinks. I also asked for extra napkins, which I did not receive. It seemed like it wasn't very well staffed for a Saturday rush.
