Y'all.... these are some goooooood pastries. I FINALLY made it out in the wee hours of the morning (9:30am) to get to Last Call. My friends got the ham and cheese croissants, which looked incredible. I got several different things to try, intending to share, but brought them all home on a rainy day and they never made it back out of the house. The olive oil cake was scrumptious. Light, pleasantly sweet. Almost a pound cake texture, not that weird polenta-y thing. The oat morning bar also had an incredible flavor. The jam was tart and the oats were sweet with a little salty finish. Fantastic with some coffee. There was a line out the door when we got here. No seating inside. It all moved very quickly. Came here after seeing reviews while in the area. I had no idea what kind of bakery this was. It has some real different items. The only one that was a normal bakery item was their croissants. This are decent. I wouldn't want to spend money on any of their creations without trying them first and they did not have samples. So this is just based on the croissants and the fact that was really the only thing I would order. read more

First time visiting and I see it's somewhere you need to get up and go early for the best variety. It was nearly 11 am when I arrived and it was slim pickins' on what was left. Lemon Bar, Olive Oil Cake, Chocolate Croissant, Miso Blondie and Brownie were what was left and most of them it was only one left. I selected the brownie it was a peanut butter spread on top and was actually really good and large enough to share with multiple people. The staff was nice and moved quickly when making the ordering process seamless. The space for guest is not very big so you do have to either sit outside or take it with you, it's a decent amount of the outdoor seating and also a coffee shop next door. In future I would hope to be able to get there earlier so I can try more of their offerings. read more

I don't know how I managed to never review this place. It's amazing. They've been open for quite some time and by now everyone knows that these are widely considered to be the best pastries in town. I have personally witnessed long lines of people waiting early in the morning to get their hands on some of their goods. I myself tend to stop by after the crowd dies down, and you can too. It'll be fine. Everything I've had has been great, but if I had to choose one thing it would be the olive oil cake. It doesn't look as flashy as some of the other options, but it's so good that I occasionally find myself distracted by the mere thought of it while trying to go about my day. It really is that good. Long stort short, if you want some competition grade croissants or the best olive oil cake you've ever had in your life, this is the spot. The best bakery in townnnn! If you can swing a weekday morning visit, you'll have the best selection before everything sells out by around 10 a.m. Weekends are definitely more hectic. We tried the ham and cheese croissant, cinnamon roll, olive oil cake, and cheese biscuit after getting recommendations for the croissant and cinnamon roll. Cheese danish was also recommended! If I had to pick a favorite, the olive oil cake was hands-down the winner. So good! read more

So I previously went here last year (2025) and thought 5 out of 6 items were home runs. Shortly after they announced the sale of the business to June coffee and I immediately said "there goes that bakery". I decided to give them a chance and not assume they would fall off just because the owners changed. So here it is Feb 1st 2026 and I drive from Atlanta to give them said deserved chance. Well they didn't prove me wrong. The breakfast ? Cookie was dry and tasted burnt, the oat bar was super bland and all you got was the tartness from the jam. But some how zero sweetness from the crumble. I don't like overly sweet but how you can make a crumble which is made from sugar not sweet and off putting it's magical. Also go the raspberry danish situation which was also missing anything besides the tartness of the jam. The lemon tart dough was extremely undercooked and boardline raw. So again another miss. Everything missed the mark this time. Complete 180 from last year. I wanted so deeply to be proven wrong and to enjoy amazing treats but sadly that didn't happen. read more

I visited Last Call for a breakfast treat after hearing so much about it! The location is in the downtown area and parking can be a little of a challenge. The bakery is very quaint and cute with good service. So many options to choose from which made it hard to select. I decided on the egg danish which was good but would have been better heated. Meh. I've tried to go 3 times, all right at opening time. Given, this is on a Saturday, typically busier. Two of the times they were completely sold out and said no plans to restock. The last time they were sold out of all except some kind of pound cake thingy that tasted mid. Why bother having hours until lunch time if you consistently cannot supply yourself to last even 30 minutes. Might as well just only stay open for an hour. Lame. 0/5 for this awful place. Drove 4 hours to try this bakery, got there at 11:35 AM, baked items were still on rack, employees in store. They would not let me in, saying they are "closed". Their google hours and website hours shows the bakery closed at 12 pm. What a shame. Lots of other places to try, I'd recommend any place but this one unless you want inconsistency. ** To respond to the owners comment, there was a sign propped up on the ground saying "CLOSED" blocking the door, i did stand in front of the door and an employee did say they were closed. So I actually think they have quite a few misses - the black sesame rice krispy treat is completely underwhelming and not worth the hype (or $6), didn't care for the maritozzi (zero flavor?), and I'm sorry but as an all things gochujang and weird food lover, that twist was a big miss for me. HOWEVER, when they hit, they hit on all cylinders. The morning bun, the coffee scroll, the olive oil cake... flawless. I am hesitant to give away my favorites with the way they sell out but it's so delicious and who is still reading anyway?! I'll wait in line any day. read more

Best bakery in town?? Yes, that would be the call from many! Yet, some may prefer the drier and less buttery taste of BBW. But, I prefer the moister and more buttery taste of LCB! The place is very spartan and efficient. There are no tables to seat, and their pastries may be actually cheaper bought at coffee shops like Santos in Homewood. So, their business doesn't seem oriented to "bringing people in" - which explains the lack of any beverage to purchase. This is an actual bakery! Lastly, you may end up paying $15 for two pasties after taxes and tips. So, for people like me, going there is for "special threat" days only. The staff are always kind and patient, and the pastries have been delicious and completely unproblematic. Regarding my last review, I think that was a truly unlucky coincidence. I grew up with GREAT Bakeries. That was a long time ago in New York. I have lived in Alabama for decades now. Alabama was not known for great bakeries, until now. Downtown Birmingham, Alabama has three great bakeries within 1/2 mile of each other. Now that is a transition. My adult daughter loves new places and usually I don't agree. Until, last week when she took me to "Last Call Baking". I was not expecting much but I was beyond surprises. The ingredients, taste, combination of Savery to sweet and quality was outstanding. So, this morning, Sunday January 28, 2024. I woke up early, went to Last Call Baking to find a line of 20 people outside, in the cold waiting for the doors to open at 08:00 AM. I immediately thought of those now famous bakeries in New York City. As I finally got into the shop, about 20 minutes later, the hardest part of my quest was to make a decision. I bought 8 pastries and it cost over $50.00. Worth every single penny. Allow me to explain. If you want something to fill your belly, buy Little Debbies. I have many times. If you the best baked goods on a weekend with coffee, well pay the price and get the best. As long as it is great which Last Call Baking is. It does not matter what you get, try new things. Get their early because lines mean selling out sooner than later. You might not go here every day, week or month. It is a treat. But when you do, it will be a wonderful pastry experience. My friend was raving about this place so we decided to check it out but came too late at ~9:30am on a Friday, so we decided to head over as soon as they opened the following Saturday; thankfully we did because they already had a long line when we arrived Saturday. But there were so many good pastry options inside so I chose the gochujang twist and the coffee scroll. The twist was great but the scroll was too sweet for me - although it works out perfectly with a black coffee. Definitely head over early since they sell out fast. read more

Eek. As other reviewers said, sometimes the miss.. but when they hit it, it's out of the park. Sadly my last two visits have been misses so I will stick to Hinkel's. First one it was raining and very humid, my croissants were all soggy and could tell they were underproofed (I had an umbrella so it was not rainwater that got them wet) Went back to give another shot this week and huge air gaps in the chocolate croissants. The attention to hygiene at this bakery is very impressive. I watched staff clean the espresso machine and counter even during slow hours. I tried the chocolate lava cake and it was served warm with a gooey center absolutely delicious. Everything was presented cleanly with no sticky trays or fingerprints. Stopped by after my early morning dermatologist visit. I knew I had to stay when I saw the line out the door. At the suggestion of the person ahead of me, I tried the canceling (sp?). It's a small, burnt appearing pastry. I'm so glad they suggested it--it's on the pricey side ($4), but I've never had anything like it before and it was yummy! I splurged and also ordered a ham and cheese croissant. Delicious! I have the almond croissant and chocolate cake to take home to my husband (maybe he'll share with the kids!?).
