This was the first location of Baba Java and has since expanded through the city. Ran my Omani entrepreneurs, this little coffee shop became quite popular over the years. The staff working here are mostly teenagers or college students, who are very attentive and professional despite their young age. The owner clearly picked out incredible folks to be here who make Baba Java feel both welcoming and well kept. The interior of the space is fairly basic coffee shop design, but admittedly, a little bit dated in 2026 and lacks the unique vibe of some other independent coffee shops. Window views facing the strip mall parking lot don't create much of an ambiance either. With that said, design is not the main thing to come here for. The coffee is excellent and priced very reasonably, offering a great value for an establishment of this sort. There is easy to access WiFi and an overall feeling of being welcomed. A solid little coffee shop that allows customers to support some local business owners instead of a big chain.

I was specifically super excited to try their seasonal matcha special, which was made with horchata (also from Salud!) and strawberries, if I recall correctly. Unfortunately, we walked in only to find they were out of the supplies needed to make the drink. :( I was caught off guard and didn't know what to order, but the barista recommended a latte with maple flavor so I went with that. The interior was clean and spacious and had a relaxed and calm but energetic feeling to it. Good place to hang out or work quietly. There's a self-service area to spruce up or fix your drink or grab lids or stir sticks. Service was nice and my drink came out quickly. It was pretty good but not really the "right" drink for me. I like my stuff on the sweet side and this was much more balanced and coffee-forward. That said, it held its own against my sugar-craving taste buds and I drank most of it, which is usually the hallmark of good brew, lol. I came with fellow Yelp Elite Wendy J. one morning before we had work. It was everything I thought it would be and more! Since we met up pretty early, I was hoping to see some baked goods I cold get for breakfast. I was pleasantly surprised to see not only baked goods but also Ladybird Tacos being sold here! I LOVE Ladybird Tacos! I could eat them every day! Something about those tortillas are just so perfect! It's also hard to choose just one taco, but when I saw tenderbelly bacon as a choice, the #1 is what I got! Tenderbelly bacon, egg, and cheese! They also have some of the best dipping sauces! It was delicious! To drink, I had an iced strawberry matcha latte. It was delicious as expected. After seeing me get food, Wendy got a bacon cheddar biscuit, and some sort of sweet baked good she left me try. The location appeared to be in a strange place for a coffee shop. It's in the middle of what appears to be an industrial park. However, there were lots of people inside when we arrived on Saturday morning about 9:30. There is an outdoor patio with tables and umbrellas for anyone that loves the steamy southern heat. Inside, the huge windows provide an abundance of natural light, which I love. As someone who also loves photography, it provides some great lighting and reflections. The menu is on the short side, but they do have a variety of options of drinks, along with a few select pastries. I opted for the basic drip coffee, which had great flavor and was smooth, like I like it. My son got the latte and enjoyed it as well. When Ethan brought our order to the table, I was surprised to see the drinks in actual mugs, rather than disposable cups. They were also smaller mugs, which was disappointing. However, Ethan turned my disappointment into surprise and delight when he said we had free refills! I don't know if this is their usual rule or he offered free refills due to the brief delay in getting our order. The crowd was mixed on this Saturday morning. I saw young individuals studying, a young family with their baby, an older couple enjoying conversation, and everything in between. The restrooms are down a hallway in back. They're very nice and clean. Ethan told me that they share the restrooms with four other businesses in the building. I love the open space , the lighting, the friendly staff and the delicious coffee here. I definitely want to come back at nighttime and see what it looks like with the indoor lighting!

I also ventured out front to Huey Sandwich Shop, a food truck set up on a bed of turf with plenty of seating and a covered awning. Such a cute space! I, however, was anything but cute while eating my sandwich I don't want to speak too soon since this place is still new, but the hot Italian sandwich might be the best sandwich I've had in the Birmingham area so far. The bread, sautéed onions and peppers, and whatever sauce they put on it took it completely over the top. I also love that they're open for Saturday lunch! It's surprisingly hard to find good lunch spots around here on weekends. Can't wait to watch this business grow and flourish!

The atmosphere is quiet and would be ideal for working, and the beverages that I've had so far were definitely up to par. Good espresso, alternative milks available, all the standard stuff. Not too much hustle and bustle, and plenty of quality caffeine. The employees that I've encountered have been friendly and prompt so the service is great. Additionally, the business serves as a nonprofit with the goal of addressing issues surrounding homelessness so that's a big plus.
