We traveled here from Ky and wanted to eat someplace local. This place was recommended to us and I am so glad we decided to eat here. Server was extremely friendly. We narrowed down our order to two options and got her opinion on which to get. She recommended she Pimento cheese bacon and avocado burger for me and the bacon blue cheese burger for my husband. It is not an exaggeration to say that it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. My husband was extremely pleased with his food as well. Fries were golden and crispy and the onion rings amazing! The atmosphere was a sports bar atmosphere and quite loud but I didn't expect anything less and was forewarned that it would be a little loud (talking not music). I've been to Ragtime many times for lunch and have found the food to be consistently good (I'd give it a 4 rating for a wide variety of sandwiches, burgers, salads and meat-and-veggie options). Last night, my wife and I came here for our first dinner visit and, wow was I impressed! In addition to their regular menu, they also had a dinner menu that featured several seafood items - grouper, redfish, tuna, catfish and a few other entrees - served either in a chef's special setup or offered fried, grilled or blackened with one of several standard setups, all of which sounded good. We ordered parmesan-crusted grouper and pecan-crusted basil salmon. Both were large pieces of fish with excellent flavor cooked exactly as ordered - definitely a "5"! One comment about the atmosphere, in case it matters to you. The dining room is divided into two sections that are both crammed full of tables and have a low ceiling that makes it very noisy and cramped. If you're looking for a quieter atmosphere where quiet conversation is easy - or if you're concerned about COVID - this may not be the place for you unless you want to sit at one of the outdoor tables on the front porch. read more

My wife and daughter both enjoy eating here. I wouldn't personally say this is one of my favorite restaurants. We have been a few times, and we have been sat immediately each time. The waitress was nice, but the service was slow. It has been the same every time. I don't know if he tables just weren't efficient or what, but she had tables inside and out. She seemed to be running between both locations a lot. Maybe if her tables were not spread out, it would've been better. As for the food, my wife and daughter like the double fried wings. One of my favorite restaurants in Birmingham. Never had a bad meal. Cannot skip the crab claws. They are meaty and seasoned perfectly. Quiche is A+++. Sweet tea is perfect. From salads to steak sandwiches you just cannot go wrong with any meal. Only complaint is taking the steak medallion sandwich off the menu. It was my favorite. My co-worker raved about their burgers but I went went with the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich with Fries. I walked to the bar and the young lady was very nice in taking my order and even offered me something to drink while I waited, which is nice considering the wait was long in my book. The young man brings me my food and I get it to the car thinking that this food has to be piping hot, not! Outside of the temperature of the food, it was really good. The sandwich had just the right amount of kick without being too spicy, the bread was fresh, and the ranch seemed to be homemade. I decided to add the ranch to the fries as well for a little pick up. We stayed nearby for a local competition the following day and decided to try this place out after a local recommendation. We were quickly greeted by the hostess and seated at a small table for a party of 5. Our drinks came out quickly then we waited for 10 minutes for our waiter. The place was not that busy that we should wait to have a waiter that long just for alcohol and app orders. We ordered two blue moons, kids Mac and cheese, corn dog, black and blue burger, bacon cheeseburger, and grilled fish tacos. Sides were not asked for, cheese options were not offered as stated in the menu, and our orders were okay. Our app of the sampler came out 20 minutes later and then not even 1 minute later the remainder of our order came out except the kids meals which came out soon after. The Mac and cheese would be better if the cheese was actually melted, the corn dog was over cooked, the fish tacos were decent however who has fries with fish tacos? My husband and I like the food at Ragtime. Always fresh and good. I especially like their crinkle cut fries. This afternoon I was very disappointed when my fries arrived with my food. There was a combination of straight fries and crinkle cut fries. I asked the wait staff about it. Found out we received what the kitchen called a sample. Absolutely not happy about that. We should have been asked if it was okay to be served the sample. I definitely would have said no. I hope this is a one time event as we do like to eat at Ragtime. I am still a little upset they no longer have Blue Moon on their beer selections and was willing to forego that because the food is good. Zero stars. This place should be called 'Raggedy Time'. If you order a medium rare steak and it comes out as a hockey puck, they will still charge you. Horrible. Travelers, beware. Ingrid was fantastic--the only bright spot in the entire restaurant. Note: my food was good; however, watching how poorly management handled two overcooked and salty steaks at my table gave me pause. If a diner's food is overcooked/salty/inedible, you don't charge them HALF. You just don't charge them. We were referred to this restaurant, so to be disappointed and have such a horrible experience--it's even worse upper management did such a poor job in handling dissatisfied patrons. Mistakes happen--it's how they are handled that makes or breaks a situation. Bad news travels faster than good, and I don't have anything positive to say about management here. Do better. read more

I went in for happy hour on a Friday. As far as food, I only ordered a plate of fruit, which was very good. I'm sure you're not considering this establishment for a fruit plate so I'll review my drink and experience. Drink: I had a cinnamon old fashion. It was absolutely delicious and STRONG! $8 drink. There was also enough cinnamon that when I exhaled I could "feel" the cinnamon. I like a strong drink so no complaints. This was on their seasonal menu. Experience: The restaurant is smaller.. Noise travels all over. It was loud. The staff was friendly. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. Families and middle aged folks. The only complaint I had about the fruit was.. ok, so I was served melon, cantaloupe, oranges, apples and grapes. The fruit was sweet! Yum! This is a hidden gem of Hoover. Found it just because we happened to be close and really loved it. I had the fried oyster Po'boy and every part of it was solid. The bread was crispy on the list side but soft on the inside as God intended. The creamy Cajun horseradish was the star. So Good!! Also got the seafood gumbo and it was extremely flavorful. Coke slaw was perfect and some of the best I've had in recent memory. I will be back if I am ever in the area! read more

We ordered the Buffalo shrimp which was delish! I'm not a seafood person and thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband ordered the blackened fish tacos and devoured them. And we also tried the chicken Alfredo, and Mac and cheese, both made in house. Everything hit the spot! Unfortunately, I have to remove my "Bentley Approved" rating from my previous review due to a recent incident with their lunchtime hostess. I had gone with Bentley to Ragtime to sit on the Patio. Usually all the staff there love him. Bentley may have been a bit more animated than usual in barking for treats. When he is, I can easily quiet him by putting him in my lap. As the hostess walked by to seat another table, she snapped at me that "people are complaining about him." She then saw Bentley had a small accident that I had not noticed and growled "and you're just letting him s*** all over our patio." I then noticed two small pieces of scattered poop about the size of a Hershey's kiss a couple of feet apart, apologized, and immediately picked them up. Usually I can see or smell when something happens, but this was so small it could have easily been missed. Bentley is prone to accidents like any other dog and I always clean up after him. As I was leaving, she chased me out to my car to tell me there was another small piece of poop under my chair that I had missed. Yes, I was a bit embarrassed and always apologize when Bentley has an accident in public. But he is a dog and things like this will happen. Usually people are understanding and friendly when it happens. And I usually leave a more than generous tip if it happens at a restaurant. But this woman was very rude and could have handled it better. I heard her make a snarky comment to another customer prior to this poop incident. She has also snapped at us before when I was standing at the door trying to get her attention for a table without bringing Bentley in. What irritates me is that I have been going to Ragtime for 20+ years usually once or twice a week and Bentley has been going with me for most of the last 10. Most of the staff there knows both of us and asks me about him when I come without him. I have posted pics of Bentley there many times, and I know it has brought them business because people dining there as well as a former manager have come up and told me that. During the worst of COVId, I frequently got take out from there to support them. And I've put up with screaming babies/children, drunks, and even dogfights there and never said anything. As a result of this experience, I will no longer post of Ragtime being dog friendly and I will no longer patronize them at lunch (that's the only time I've ever seen this hostess work). If you are going to allow a restaurant to be dog friendly, unfortunately you have to put up with the occasional barking and accidents. They can both be handled easily and politely. Ragtime makes a lot of money from customers on their patio with dogs. However, I will not put up with treatment like I got today from this woman when I'm spending my hard earned dollar there! Ragtime usually has good food, and I do point out that most of the staff there love my dog. Unfortunately this hostess made my visit an unpleasant experience. Enjoyed a great meal today for lunch. They were super busy but not to busy to pay attention to detail. Ended up here by chance when we were advised against our original spot by workers exiting the building. Ragtime was suggested and was located nearby from our original destination. Wifey had the muffaletta with fries while I settled in for the daily special of roast beef w/gravy, mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli, black eye peas, and cornbread. Wifey being from Baton Rouge has high expectations for a muffaletta and she was not disappointed. The roast beef was tender enough to never need a knife and very flavorable. The broccoli was also extremely delicious. All the other vegetables were great as well. Since the main meal was so good we couldnt see passing on dessert. We settled in on the banana pudding which we split. The whipped cream was very tasteful as well as the banana pudding. We are already looking forward to our next visit! read more

This is my favorite place to eat in Pelham. It reminds me of the TV show Cheers where all the regulars come and everyone knows your name! I like it so much that I'm going to have our company Christmas party there this year. I've been going there for years and just realized they have a whole section on the back of the building where you can entertain and have private parties. My husband and I love their Cajun crab claws. It is truly our favorite item on the menu as with their Oreo cheesecake! We often save the sauce for the crab claws and pour it over our baked potatoes. It's so good! First time to eat at Ragtime in a really long time. We got there when they were really busy and so we went to the bar while we waited. They usually have one or two really good drink specials. On Saturday's it is 4.50 bloody Mary's and 10 dollar pitchers of Coor's original. Once we were seated, they immediately took our order. I decided to try a pizza. They said it was backed up and would be about 25 minutes, but it was really closer to an hour. The pizza was really big and would be great to split with someone. Otherwise, you can definitely take a lot home. We also ordered a pitcher while we were eating and it took a really long time. It turned out they ran out of a keg and were changing it and then had some problems with the kegerator. They ended up comping us a pitcher of the beer of our choice since we had waited so long which I really liked. Our waitress was really good and very nice. read more

My teenage daughter was craving a burger. It has been years since I came here and fortunately I remembered this place. We were in close proximity so I knew I had to take her here. She had the classic plus cheese and fries and devoured it. I had the blackened burger with a twice baked potato and it was great. Had just enough room for a slice of key lime pie which was as good as any I've ever eaten. We choose to sit outside because it was about to rain and wanted to enjoy the summer shower. My only concern about eating outside is that from past experiences, the servers forget you or just don't come around as often, out of sight out of mind thing, you know. My second visit here, and got a Mufaletto again (not sure of spelling) because I remembered it was awesome last time. Sure enough, Ragtime delivered! My sandwich was hot and juicy, with hot, stringy cheese, and it was totally delicious! I was only able to eat half of it, and none of my pasta salad, which means I'll have this great dining experience again-soon! I took one star off because of the TERRIBLY LOUD ambiance. People are literally yelling at each other at every table! Not sure the owner could fix this problem, because it's a small place and people are packed in like sardines, but it would make for a more pleasant experience if they did. We are regular customers at this place. Every Friday night we travel 45 minutes to get here. Usually service is good but tonight we was seated and served drinks. Never seen our waitress after this. Finally after 40 minutes we got the check and left. No one ever tried to make it right. Didn't try to see if we would try to order. We usually spend $150 here every Friday night and tip 40%. It's literally right down the street from and and I've been missing out! Atmosphere: Its a neighborhood bar. It kind of put me in the mind of Cheers(TV). Vee was an awesome server and she made great recommendations on food and drinks!! Food/Drinks: The drinks were amazing! Never have I ever been a fan of candy corn. For me to be a foodie and have a strong dislike for candy corn is a bit unsettling. I may have to retract that statement because the candy corn martini is BOMB!!! I was so surprised! They caramel apple was good as well. We ordered wings and fries, which may seem a little basic, but y'all when I tell you I've never had my fries served to me piping HOT!!!
