This was my first time eating here. I decided to try something new and I always see the parking lot packed so I decided to give it a try. I was greeted as soon as I walked in. The atmosphere is pleasant and you have an option of bar area seating or general seating. The server took my order promptly and with a very nice attitude. I had the daily special which was pot roast, mashed potatoes, fried okra, lima beans and corn bread. I must say that this was one of the best meat and vegetable plates I have ever eaten! The pot roast was so tender and not dried out. The potatoes were thick and creamy and the gravy for both was just as good. The Lima beans were seasoned perfectly and the fried okra wasn't over fried like most places. I could tell that it didn't come out of a bag. The corn bread was delicious! My only set back was the server didn't ask me about dessert and brought my ticket. I wanted to try the bread pudding. This is a place where I will have to come back to. The food isn't spectacular, but the place is close to my home. I enjoy the black bean burger with a side salad. Other restaurants offer the plant based stuff; I appreciate the black bean offer much more. The service is good... they have never gotten my order incorrect. I call in for pickup more than I eat in. They are usually busy. Oh! The flat crust pizza is AMAZING. The ambiance is okay. I think there is historic stuff on the walls, but I'm usually just in and out. read more

Rolled in town and hit up Yelp for some grub. Landed on Ragtime so that's where I went. Walked in and went to the only open seat at the bar. The tender came and got my order ASAP as well as leaving me a menu. The tender suggested the filet with blue cheese so I took his advice. It came out on time and was perfectly cooked, I got the Greek salad and steamed veggies. All were delightful. It was full which means the locals like it which is a good sign. Hidden gem of a restaurant tucked away next to a cat vet on Valledale Rd. in Hoover. Brought my sister here recently when she was visiting from SC, and she absolutely loved this place. For lunch or dinner, I would first recommend their Chicken and Artichoke Alfredo pasta. I promise you will not be disappointed! The first time I went to Ragtime was absolutely fantastic, but that was more than a year ago... On Saturday, my mom and I were excited to make our way back to Ragtime for their delicious oyster appetizer among other things. Although it was an off hour, about 3pm, and there were only two other tables being served, our appetizer took about half an hour to arrive. I wish I could say that was the worst of it, but when I started to serve myself an oyster, there were several strands of long black hair visible across the entire top of the dish. Completely disgusted, we flagged down the waitress who casually offered to have another plate made. We declined and waited for an apology that never came. To add insult to injury, my mom's steak sandwich, which she asked for medium rare, was so well done that she could barely cut the meat. She left it relatively untouched and I just ate the shrimp from my po boy sandwich. Again, the waitress seemed confused when we said that we did not want the leftovers boxed and informed her that the food was pretty terrible overall. She must hear that often because she didn't bat an eyelash or apologize for the lack of quality. They didn't charge us for the hairy appetizer or the piece of tar masquerading as a steak, but we left disappointed and pretty hangry! Needless to say, we won't be back and I'd encourage others to stay away as well. read more

I am from out of town and was recommended this restaurant. My group all ordered food and drinks. Most of the food was good; however, the two ribeye steaks were overcooked, salty, and horrible. We did not eat the steaks, yet the manager said we had to pay for two overcooked steaks even though they were never eaten. Management was unprofessional, food was ok at best, and customer service was the worst ever. Ingrid, the waitress, was good; however, the young managers were not professional nor able to deal with customer concerns. Do not go to this place--it would be a waste of time and money. read more

Went here on a whim last weekend with my wife and kids, it has been awhile since we've eaten here and so glad we did. We were seated promptly and service was pleasant. I was surprised to see they actually had a fruit plate option on the menu, big kudos for providing that option as you don't see it often at restaurants these days. As tempting as that was I decided to still opt for the veggie burger with sweet potato fries. The flavor was great and filling. Everyone enjoyed their meals, my wife said the kids Mac and cheese was actually the best thing on the table! Will definitely be coming back again soon! read more

Lunch with friends....had never heard of this place. I have seriously been missing out. This place has a great selection on their menu. Salads, pasta, pizza, burgers, sandwiches, apps, and more. This would be another great place to go if you have a group and everyone is having a hard time agreeing on what they want. I went with the Grilled Bacon Cheddar Chicken sandwich. Wow, this was so good! Chicken was cooked to perfection, still just a little juicy. Generous portions of bacon and cheese too. Went with the onion rings on the side...so glad I did. Very flavorful in general but the dipping sauce that came with them made them amazing. I really shouldn't have ate everything, but it was so good it was hard to stop. My friends both had the Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches and both loved it! Drinks (sodas and teas) are served in enormous glasses. When you pay for the meal the waitress actually asks if you would like a to go drink. Really friendly staff too! I will be returning here to try more of the great choices on the menu. Came at 11:15am, asked to be seated at a table while my spouse parked the car, the hostess wouldn't do it, not sure why. Then asked to be seated outside under a fan (it was fairly hot), we were told no because we only had two in our party (BTW there were plenty of available tables with fans). I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and the hubs got a chicken salad BLTC (bacon, lettuce, tomato on a crossaint) Burger was dry and just bland. No seasoning, just there, fries were plentiful and pretty good. The BLTC was pretty amazing. The pasta salad that came as a side was nothing to praise. Just overall disappointed in the food. Either I'm getting older or this is the strongest long island I've ever had! Oh wait, I'm here to review my experience... so let's jump in! A unique little spot that I definitely recommend you give a shot. To start, very crowded on Friday evening around 7 (as to be expected) but it wasn't a turn off at all. You can smell the seafood in the air as soon as you walk in (not a bad thing at all). The restaurant is split into a bar side (stays open an hour or so later than the kitchen) and a restaurant side. We were seated in about 5 mins, so no worries here. We started with an appetizer of Buffalo-Style Chicken Fingers which were Huge, Hot and Amazing! Very good starter... be sure to get some bleu cheese or ranch to compliment. Friday is also apparently "pick any special" night (see my photo) so my wife and I both had $5 long islands... refer to my opening tagline for commentary on this. I ordered the cajun chicken pasta while wifey had some variety of burger. The cajun chicken pasta had amazing cajun flavor and really packed a good flavor punch. Only thing is all that flavor makes it a borderline sodium-bomb, ready to explode at your next annual! A little turned off by this but if dialed down a tad... excellent dish! The burger (that I took a bite of) was a good burger, but nothing to make it a stand-out, must-have burger! All in all, very good dinner and we'll definitely return to try some other items off the fairly diverse menu! read more

Ragtime is a nice "locals" watering hole and restaurant. The restaurant is family friendly and has lots of TVs for watching sports. Ragtime is very popular for lunch so get there early or be prepared to wait to be seated. When the restaurant is crowded it sometimes takes a long time to get your food, and the service can be slow. The food is good. I suggest the New Orleans Muffuletta, Club Sandwich, or one of their excellent hamburgers. I also remember the Buffalo wings being pretty good. There is seating outdoors, and when the weather is nice this is a good place for happy hour. read more

The waitress was attentive, nice, and caring about our experience. Has the filet cooked to perfection. The steak was fresh not frozen, honestly the same taste as high end chop houses. I cannot understand why this place has the reviews it has. We waited almost 15 minutes at the hostess station with countless people coming to and from the station without my husband or myself being acknowledged. This was our first red flag. We were finally acknowledged and seated. Our waitress never gave us her name. She took our order and then disappeared. Had my husband not gone to the bar for drinks, we would have never got a drink. I had to ask our nameless waitress three times before another server brought us our waters which tasted horrible. I had to request a soda for my husband and I to share because the water was so horrible. We both preferred sipping bourbon over the water due to the water's taste. I ordered the black and bleu ribeye Caesar salad with dressing on the side and my steak medium. My croutons were more tender than my severely over-seasoned steak. And the salad was barely edible due to being drenched with dressing My husband ordered the ribeye with Marsala seasoned vegetables and mushrooms. He was able to eat his. But then again he has been able to eat MREs while deployed on military service. However, we can both definitely say that our meal was EXTREMELY overpriced for the quality. The restaurant was so loud we could not hear each other and had to communicate by yelling. We will definitely NOT be back. We would gladly go to the Arby's next door instead instead of wasting money on this place. OVERRATED!!!!! read more
