SLIDE is a cute cafe on Birmingham's South side. It appears to be very popular so it does get crowded during their business hours. Even though it was crowded, seating took place rather quickly. Once seated, you then walk up to the kiosk to browse the menu and place your order. You enter your table number and pay while at the kiosk. My food and drinks arrived shortly. The food was good and I'm looking forward to exploring other items on the menu. It was a cool vibe.

Wow this place really was amazing! We were greeted upon entry from every employee we passed. They directed us to the host stand where she explained how the restaurant operates. We were sat down immediately then headed to the kiosk to order our food. First off the restaurant was very clean! When you go to the kiosk to order the every item had a picture so you knew exactly what you were getting. The menu was well detailed, I feel like all the food & drinks we tried were worth the price. Everything was a 10/10! That passion fruit lemon drop was exactly the way a passion fruit lemon drop should taste. The strawberry & cream waffles were like a milk shake on waffles! The strawberries were fresh and the waffles were cooked just right. My mom had the seafood omelette , I ordered it for her b/c every review we watched on YouTube highly recommended it. My mother loved it! The brisket slider was actually really good, they didn't hold back on the brisket. The sweet heat wings were crispy and flavorful. My husband got the chicken egg & cheese biscuit, it was packed with chicken! The biscuit was homemade , flaky & buttery! Overall this place has great service , ambience and food. The bonus was the bathroom was very clean and smelled good! We will definitely be back.

I have eaten from Chef Raquel's food truck and other restaurants before, so I know her food is top notch. However, this was my first time eating at this current location. Upon entering, we were warmly greeted and asked if we were first timers. We were then escorted to the kiosk where our orders would be taken, given a number and showed where our table was located. The host explained some menu changes and proceeded to allow us to finish our order. I opted for the Salmon Hash...my guy ordered the Big Breakfast. Both of us opted for bottled drinks. I'm not sure if I remember an option for either orange juice or Coke in any other form. I'll return to that later. The decor is beautiful. Whoever designed this layout is a star in my book. Pictures just don't do it justice. Very classy without seeming pretentious. A lot of time, money and effort has been sowed in this restaurant and it shows. There is ample seating throughout, window seating, bar seating, and a separate section that would be ideal for an intimate group outing or someone celebrating a special occasion. Soft R&B music made for the perfect ambiance. The food is cooked to order so there will be a short wait. The restaurant informs you of this online and there are signs posted that tell you this again. That's never a big deal to me because I appreciate freshness. The Big Breakfast was brought out first. And it certainly was big! It's enough to feed two or 3 people! Well worth the money charged for it if you're sharing or like leftovers. The biscuit was a little hard, but the replacement that was brought out after we mentioned it to a server more than made up for it. My salmon hash arrived shortly afterwards. I'm a picky salmon eater but taking one look at my dish, I knew it was prepared just as I wanted it to be. The salmon was well done without being dried out and full of flavor. The eggs and potatoes were perfection and the sauce on top was just the perfect touch that pulled everything together. Chef's kiss! I enjoyed every bite I could eat! It was a lot of food and I ended up having some to take home for later. I would definitely order this dish again when I want to splurge on a delicious breakfast entree. Which brings me to the cost. While I think the prices were fair for the dishes considering the amount of food we received, this is not a breakfast we could afford weekly. This would definitely be an order that I reserved for special occasions. However, I'm sure there are more affordable, everyday options to pick from. I will revisit soon to check out those options. I enjoyed this visit and I highly recommend trying them out!

Oh my. What do I say about this place. Just a heads up, you order your food at the kiosk, take a number, then find a place to sit. The food is delicious. I mean it's down right scrumptious. I enjoyed everything that I ordered, as did my guest. The grits were salted perfectly, the eggs done just right, the biscuit swimming in butter and honey. Overall, great experience, I'll go back

Now this is brunch!! My girlfriends and I stopped by this location and we had zero regrets. The food came out hot and fresh, and the drinks were nice, flavorful, and super delightful! Ty greeted us at the door and checked in with us throughout our visit--she was so sweet and attentive. This new location is definitely bigger and brighter, which made the vibe even better. The only thing I didn't love was the kiosk setup. I felt a little rushed with a line behind me, so I couldn't really look over the menu. Maybe adding more kiosks or having printed menus available would help guests who get anxious in crowds.

    Portions are comically massive

We are not local-we were in town for a wedding and wanted an easy place for brunch in a group before getting ready for a wedding. I don't think I would return based on our one experience. You order on a screen and are assigned a table number. I do not love this style of ordering as someone with food sensitivities who typically needs to alter my order and ask a few equations. It was also kind of a confusing set up for ordering with multiple screens to click through-easy to kiss something. Portions are comically massive. Like way too much food. Almost no one in our group finished their meal. My husband ordered a biscuit sandwich and there was 3 pieces of fried chicken stacked in a tiny biscuit. He had to deconstruct it to be able to eat it and then you just friend chicken with no sauce with what reminded. That is not appealing. He said it tasted fine but the rest of our table all said their food was over seasoned. I ordered French toast and it was fine but nothing special. The syrup had a flavor to it. I can't remember what it was but it wasn't for me. I'm sure it's something done specially or in house but it just was not for me. A note that everyone had was that the sausage in particular was way too over-seasoned. Like to a point that it was inedible. They also forgot our waters. Then they forgot straws. There was no salt or pepper et the table we had to ask for it and they brought out an literal oil of little salt & pepper packets (like what you get a gas station) Lastly there was a guy who I assume may have been the manager who was also functioning as the greeter who was quite loud. We were seated very close to the door and stand so there was no getting away from him yelling at everyone he spoke to. Not angrily just he had a very loud and high pitched voice. There is also almost no soft surface in the space so the overall space itself is quite loud so all of it was just a lot. He also came around and asked for good reviews which kind of turned all of us off. We actually had a conversation about it. All in all I'm this place was a little too much for me. It wasn't a terrible experience but not what we were looking for and we didn't love our food. I can see a bunch of dudes maybe liking it but it was just too much for us.

The Chicken Egg & Cheese biscuit with a side of potatoes and a glass of sweet tea
    Gabe M.

SLIDE Cafe was amazing. Immediately upon going in, i was greeted and attended to promptly. They helped me understand everything on the menu and make sure I got the brunch I wanted. I am visually impaired and had a bit of a concern with some steps in the restaurant, but the staff helped me up and down the stairs without issue. The food itself? Some of the best brunch I've ever had. I like simple things made well, and the chicken, egg, and cheese sandwich is most definitely that. Savory and crispy chicken on a bed of jam, honey glazed over a buttery biscuit, and eggs and cheese all roughly held together--it'd be a challenge to eat it with your hands, no shame in using a fork and knife like I did. I also had a side of potatoes, which were perfectly crispy, well-seasoned, and delicious. All washed down with the southern classic that is sweet tea. My waitress came by often to check on me and I felt well taken care of. Overall, great experience, would absolutely come back here for brunch next time I'm in town.

    CHICKEN HASH
    Joseph C.

This Chicken Hash is next-level. Two fluffy scrambled eggs sit atop super crispy, perfectly seasoned skillet potatoes, with sautéed peppers and onions adding a sweet, savory crunch. The fried chicken is juicy, flavorful, and coated in just the right seasoning, all melted together with cheddar cheese and drizzled in Slide's house sweet heat sauce. Every bite hits--crispy, cheesy, spicy, and satisfying. Definitely a must-try if you're craving a hearty brunch with bold flavors. Lovely staff and ambiance

I visited Slide Cafe for the first time and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. I ordered the ribeye steak and eggs and specifically asked for the steak to be cooked medium. When my plate arrived, the steak was clearly well-done. I voiced my concerns to the server, who took the plate to the owner/chef. The server returned and told me the chef said it was cooked medium and would not be replaced. The steak was undeniably overcooked. Another server stopped by my table and I asked her opinion--she agreed the steak looked well-done. She told me she would speak with the owner but never returned. I waited 15-20 minutes for the owner to come to my table and address the issue, but that never happened. I was told by the a server if I wanted to voice my concern, I needed to go up to the counter to talk with the chef. I'm the customer, I'm not coming to you ma'am! What frustrated me most was not only receiving a steak that was not cooked to order, but also the complete lack of accountability and customer care. As a first-time visitor, I expected at least some effort to correct the mistake or acknowledge my concern, but instead I left unsatisfied and disappointed. Sadly this is why some black businesses get a bad reputation because of businesses like this one. I'm very disappointed because I had been looking forward to patronizing this establishment and for this to be my experience. I'm very disappointed to say the least on top of the fact I paid for food that I did not eat.

    SUNRISE
    Westyn R.

Came in for brunch on a Sunday and the place was busy! You're greeted at the entrance and order through the kiosk which makes ordering easy (plus see pictures of items you're ordering). We ordered 3 sliders which was enough for 2 people. The brunch sliders are piled high! You could tell a lot of thought went into curating this menu. The sausage was perfectly cooked and the sauces on the sliders made them even better. The favorite was the Sunrise biscuit slider. We also appreciate the complimentary mimosa with our meal. Will definitely be back to try all the other sliders!

Dry steak, hard, dry eggs and potatoes

My peach cobbler waffle was good but the potatoes were cold and hard, the eggs were dry, my friends steak was grossly overcooked and they refused to replace it or offer a substitute. We probably won't be coming back. Waitress was nice but chef seemed to have a little attitude when questioned about the steak. We went on a Sunday for brunch and it was super crowded. Had to it at bar. Wanted to order a coffee and orange juice once we were seared and was told we would have to wait in long line at the kiosk. They really need to work on their customer service to get repeat business. The young guy busing tables was very sweet and helpful!

The Brisket egg and cheese biscuit with cheese grits.

The Brisket egg and cheese biscuit with cheese grits was fantastic. The brisket was seasoned to perfection and the brown sugar glaze on top. Overall 10/10 , would definitely go back.

    CHICKEN & WAFFLE BUTTERED BISCUIT
    Tanvee S.

I came here for the first time yesterday and was absolutely taken back! After living in the south for so many years and looking for a proper Southern breakfast w no success, I can finally stop looking! This joint had the heartiest food, and every detail, down to the perfect mix of saltiness and spiciness on the chicken, to the crumbly buttery biscuits stacked with three different types of meat and sweet jelly, and the maple syrup that had cinnamon undertones to it, I was blown away. The chef is such a personable woman and made our experience so enjoyable -- she is so talented and deserves a lot more recognition, please do try this place out if you're near southside Birmingham!

Our server greeted us quickly and went over the menu. We ordered drinks, blistered Hungarian peppers and a sausage and mushroom pizza. We told him that we were going to a concert and were on a little bit of a tight schedule. By the time our server checked on our food, the second time, we went from a little bit tight to full "gotta get out of here" mode. I guess the delay in getting our food was to give the kitchen time to burn our pizza. Over half of the thick, chewy crust was inedible. The bottom of the pie didn't fare much better. The peppers, on the other hand, were amazing. (not so much so at 2 am but that's just me!) They are a do not miss. We were at least able to settle our bill quickly and made it to the concert with time to spare. Overall, would we go back? Only if in the area - those peppers were amazing. Still, I definitely would not make a special trip.

They have tried everything on the menu themselves. They can describe any one of the imported liquors up on the wall. These are real deal professionals who illustrate just how important the people in a restaurant's front truly are. The food? Delicious. It's a wild grab bag of East Asian fare - Chinese, Japanese, Thai - and it's all done extremely well. The portions are small, which is good, since you'll want to try half a dozen things on Current's very deliberately thought-out menu. The Peking Duck is some of the best I've had. The cocktails are also excellent, with my favorite being a delicious, earthy combination of coconut, lime, and pandan. It's like an extremely upscale tiki drink. I cannot recommend this place enough. High ceilings and exposed brick are a few of the ways to my heart. If you've seen a post about this place, you've probably seen a picture of the crackly round, artistic dish and wondered what it was. There are dumplings on the underside of it and you break each one off of the crackly part to enjoy. We did enjoy these but I would've loved a soy sauce to dip them in. They came with chili crunch, peanuts, and green onions but I wanted an actual sauce. They were very standard tasting dumplings and there was nothing extraordinary about them unfortunately. As always, we'd looked at the menu beforehand and decided what we wanted. It does state on their website that their menus can change due to freshness and availability. But we'd both decided on an app and entree we wanted only to get there and have none of them on the menu. I do appreciate a rotating menu to accommodate local items, but I would also love for those to be updated on a regular basis. So after rerouting, we decided on the chicken skewers as another app with the dumplings. These were chargrilled, flavorful, and had a nice crust on them. I got shrimp fried rice and Julia got spicy beef noodles. It was fine but I wish the shrimp wouldn't have been cut up. It felt like they chopped them up in order to not put as many in the dish. At $25 for this, I'd like whole shrimp please. There were a few pieces of raw spinach with pepper on the top. I would've loved a sauce of some kind. I would've preferred shrimp hibachi with fried rice from a Japanese place that included vegetables and sauces. This was not *bad* there was just SO much room for improvement. We both agreed that nothing was awful, but for these prices and the hype, we expected more. Our waitress was super friendly. Bonus points because they had match boxes at the host stand! There was a paid parking lot diagonal from the restaurant, so we had to walk through an intersection to get there. There are some spots up front if you can snag one. Overall, we enjoyed our time here but won't be sprinting back.

The decor is bright and fun, though it didn't quite seem to match the style of food being served. Just my personal observation. They also have a robot that helps deliver the food alongside the servers, which felt a little unexpected for the casual atmosphere and southern comfort food vibe. They were fairly busy since it was lunchtime on a Friday, but the wait really wasn't bad at all. Would I go back? Yes. Was it my absolute favorite? No. But there were definitely things I enjoyed, especially that sweet potato cake that nearly made me consider ordering dessert first next time.
