Even on their first day open, everything was enjoyable and ran smoothly. I was greeted by the GM when I walked in and he (Chad) was very friendly. The lady at the cash register was very very nice as well. I enjoyed my chicken chili. I went up and added some Tabasco to give it a little spice. I love the little bar with peppers and sauce etc in the middle of the restaurant. My husband had The Q sandwich and he thoroughly enjoyed it, as there was nothing left on his plate. Ha. I really like this place. Tomato soup was sooo good, I came home and tried to duplicate it and did! Worth the visit.

Let me start with the MUSIC was way too loud. Cashier seem to uninterested about taking your order, good thing it was a slow night. Everything looks great on the menu Picts, I had the pizza which was tasty though dough was undercooked. Wife had a steak sandwich that looked very pale and barely had any meat. Location was great. Went during lunch rush. It was pretty busy but the staff had it under control. Ordered the lunch deal picked a Caesar salad and the steak sandwich. The food took about 10 mins to hit the table, the sandwhich was luke warm( considering that it was meant to be hot) this affected the overall taste. The salad was fresh and crisp and really tasty. The restaurant was clean and I liked the open kitchen. The macaroni was very creamy and tasty and came out hot. The menu has a wide selection with items suitable for all ages. Overall, I would not consider Newks as my first choice for quick deli style dining in Baton Rouge, but I may give it another try in the future. read more

This place is nice restaurant at the top of a hill, and it's new so not many people know about it. When you walk in, you will see against the wall, their large menu and you order at the cash register first. There's also a small section at the restaurant that you can get an unlimited amount of breadsticks, crackers, croutons and other condiments! Food does not take long either, and the people that work there are really nice and welcoming! I ordered the Newk's Q sandwich and i know for a fact that I will be coming back for more! Good to have another option for lunch near my office. This is one of those places where you order and pay first, they give you a plastic number, and you display it on a flagpole on your table until they bring your food. Very similar to Jason's in that regard. We were a bit concerned about the line when we walked in (it was lunch rush, and they'd only been open for a week, so lots of people), but they kept it moving at an acceptable pace. Atmosphere is busy, noisy, maybe a touch of a crowded feel, but not bad by any means. Just don't go there expecting anything cozy or intimate-- this place is engineered for the workday lunch crowd. The menu choices are quite varied, with emphasis on sandwiches, pizzas, and salads. I ordered the Grilled Italian sandwich, and my wife got the Mediterranean pizza. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time, and both items far exceeded our expectations on quality. Portion sizes were good, but not gigantic, which was fine. One minor gripe. It seemed that 90% of the parking spaces for this place were labeled "compact" and they were indeed very narrow. The thing is, Baton Rouge is not a market with predominantly compact vehicles. Lots of folks drive pickups and SUV's down here. We rolled through the parking lot noting over and over how there was no way some guy was getting back into his vehicle without banging the next car with his door. Indeed, when we got back to our vehicle, an Explorer which we had to park in a "compact" slot because it was the only option, the next car was 8 inches away from the driver door, so my wife had to enter through the passenger door and crawl over. Other than that, I'll go back. Always good to have one more option for lunch. read more

Check your orders before you leave! Mine are almost always wrong or short of something. You have to stay on top of them or your order can sit somewhere back there and get cold! One man was waiting with me and said he had been waiting for 20 minutes for a pizza. I said he should let them know, and they found it behind the cash register stone cold and handed it to him! Yow! Consistently delicious! I appreciate how they hire older staff because you don't have to deal with the nonsense of staff not caring or providing a decent service. There are two standout staff here. One -- the African American taller man who does a little of everything but I mostly see him cleaning tables and picking up after customers. He is phenomenal! Give that man a raise. Always has a smile, super professional and keeps the restaurant in top shape! The Togo lady with reddish hair is also personable and ensures your order is correct and all the times in your bag. First time here. I had a coupon for a free slice of cake. I ordered the caramel cake and it was ok at best. It tasted like a frozen cake that was defrosted the day before yesterday. We eat there a couple of times a month. Tonight was our first bad experience. I had the 1/2 Roast Beef sandwich and a cup of Corn & Crab chowder. My wife had a cup of Broccoli Cheese soup and a half Caesar Salad. My Roast Beef was so tough and stringy that I could not chew and swallow it. I stacked six chewed up bites on my plate, hoping they would see it. The Corn Chowder had absolutely no crabmeat or even flavor of it. It was so hot with pepper (not black pepper) that I wonder why it's called a chowder and if that is their standard recipe. My wife found not one shred of Broccoli in her soup. The manager must not care about this place and he must hire employees who just dont care about it either. Shrimp and avocado salad. The two main ingredients of the dish other than lettuce and the avocado's were completely gray. When my husband ask them to replace them, they gave a disgusted look and brought it back to the kitchen. Then we watched as they rooted through the avocado container to find a few not gray and put those on the salad. First dont cut up gray old avocados to be served, second dont serve old gray avocados on a dish that has them front and center of the dish, third dont get irritated when someone doesnt want to eat your old gray avocados and then when they dont want to eat your old gray avocados dont stand where they can see you picking through your old gray avocados to give them the few that havent gone gray yet. No one wants nasty okd food that might make you sick because it sat there long enough to go gray. Also i ordered the taco salad. A lot of lettuce with a little bit of bland stuff on top. Very tastless but this is corporates fault for serving tasteless food in the south. read more

One of my new favorites! When I first came, my mother and I were cruising on Corporate trying to find something to eat. I noticed Newk's. All of my friends from North LA kept raving about how good it was. I am always hesitant to try new things that my friends suggest, because I am almost always certain that I will not be impressed. Newk's is different. We came in to a really nice layout. I looked on Yelp to see that it was recently opened. I got the Spicy Chicken pizza and sweet tea. I love their sweet tea!! It is not overly sweet like everything tea here. Just perfect. I also love the cups they give you! Since I am a college student, those will definitely come in handy since they are reusable. The set up is basically like Jason's Deli, Mcalister's, Panera Bread, etc. We waited only a few minutes until the food came out. The pizza was bigger than I expected. Such a good price for me. And oh my goodness, it was sooooooo delicious! Perfectly seasoned to match my Louisiana taste buds. I have been here one other time, and as like before, I was extremely impressed. I ordered online and went to pick up the food at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday night. The food was ready on time but this place clearly has management/employee issues. As I approached the counter, the employee standing there walked away. This gave me the opportunity to observe the extreme disorganization and clutter behind the counter - boxes and supplies piled everywhere. I would expect the restaurant to appear this way only to employees readying and restocking before the restaurant opens. Not what I would expect to see during dinner hours on Saturday night and not what I would portray as a manager or owner. There are several other posts describing serious personnel issues and it seems to me that someone in the corporate office should make note and make changes. Steak sandwich, chicken pesto sandwich, tomato basil soup and coleslaw were as ordered and tasty BUT another visit like my first and I'll be done. I absolutely love the cleanness of this restaurant. You walk in and it's just...clean. And convenient. Take out orders are separate from dine in orders so there's no confusion or build up of people. There are two drink stations (one for take outs, one for dine-ins) which keeps the build up down in those areas as well. The staff is friendly and the food is yummy. This place really comes off more to me as a soup, salad, and sandwich place; however the best thing here has to be the PIZZA! The pizza is so yummy! It's baked fresh in a wood fire stove (to my knowledge) and you can tell. Be sure to also check out the soup schedule since it changes daily. The potato soup is also quite delicious (if you like cheddar be sure to request it since it doesn't come with it). All in all, this is a great choice for lunch and also probably dinner (although I've never been during dinner hours) Oh, and how can I forget the best part...the desserts!! I've been here several times and the ordering process usually runs smoothly and the food comes out as ordered but today I was disappointed. I ordered a half sandwich and simply salad but was still charged for a whole sandwich. I decided to take the leftovers to go so I didn't say anything. When my food came out, my sandwich had honey mustard on it even though it was not supposed to. When it came back out for the second time the server told me that he had to do everything he could to have the kitchen remake it because they didn't want to. This time the sandwich incorrectly had avocado on it but I was so frustrated that I just ate it. I'm still confused as to why my food was made incorrectly two times, but the kitchen felt as though I was to blame. All I wanted was a regular ole newks q and a simply salad after all!! read more

We dined at Newk's tonight and I was less than impressed. The place was very clean and the staff was friendly, however the food was way less impressive than I had hoped. After reading Yelp reviews, I decided that the Newk Q pizza was the way to go. I found the pizza to be lacking flavor of any sort, even when I added salt, pepper and parmesan cheese. It was undercooked and there was no way you could eat the slices with your hands bc they were so flimsy. I had to use a fork and knife to eat the pizza. My husband got the pepperoni and sausage pizza. Again, this pizza had to be eaten with utensils bc it was undercooked. The sauce tasted strongly of some spice, I think it was basil. I didn't care for it but that's a personal preference. There was a lot of sausage though, so that's good, I guess... My son got half of a shrimp Caesar salad with a side of mac and cheese. The salad had way too much dressing on it but it had a good flavor. He told me that my macaroni (which comes out of the box) is much better than what he ate. I do love the 32 ounce plastic cups the drinks come in though:) Newk's isn't horrible, I'd say it's average. We may go back and each of us would order something different next time, but we are in no rush to eat there again. read more

I went in a group of three. The place was cute, they had some catchy instrumental music playing when we walked in and the sinks in the bathroom were pretty cool. The food was also satisfactory. I had the bacon Mac and cheese which was quite cheesy, while my companions had salads, which looked great. We ultimately came to a group consensus of four stars, will have to try again when we're back in town. read more
