Middle of the road Chinese food on the go. Sometimes you take a chance and try something despite the iffy reviews. I think this spot has really generous portions for the price and staff are super friendly. However, with so many great Chinese food options in the 805 this one wouldn't be as memorable for me. Hot bars are always a risk as food can tend to sit out, especially if you come at an off hour. I will say this hot bar Chinese spot had a stellar assortment! One of the better assortments with over 10 main dishes plus sides and carbs. This was pretty cool. The prices are extremely reasonable for the scoops they give and the food did look appealing. The staff who helped me was super nice and he was funny. He definitely brought the vibes which made me want to like this spot even more. I felt valued as a new customer and the service was 5 stars for a to go spot. At the end of the day the food was just okay. Some bites better than others. I will say the chow mein was so tasty! While I can't put my finger on what made it special it was just very flavorful and good chew on the noodles. If I had to pick a main dish that was decent I'd say the black pepper beef. However the two chicken dishes I tried I really didn't like much. Anything with a crispy batter here is a no go for me unless it literally came right off the wok. The sesame chicken had a crispy batter by look but upon biting into it I could tell it was old, a little cold and soggy. The black bean chicken was just a little too fatty and dark meat for me. Maybe some would like it but I would pass. Veggie egg-rolls were cold but had good flavor. Overall I liked a couple bites but probably not enough to come back anytime soon. I think this spot is ideal if you just want a lot of food for a reasonable price. If you aren't took picky and want to try something new this restaurant definitely deserves your business, I just find myself to be a little pickier now a days, that if I'm going to invest in the calories, I need it to be worth it.

Chow Mein, Orange Chicken, BBQ pork

Great Service, awesome chow Mein orange chicken and BBQ pork. Can't wait to try more our next time I visit.

    Combo A

I got the combo A. Super friendly staff and the food is amazing. The portions are huge and great prices. I have 0 complaints. I don't understand the low rating reviews. This is a hidden gem in the 805!

Combo box $10 which equals 1/2 the food of Family Pack (7 small pints) $60!!! Family deal is not a deal. Go with combos.

I heard that they just reopened and wanted to support a local restaurant, but I was extremely disappointed!!! we got the family pack and assumed the containers would be quart sized like Panda Express's family pack$45. The family value packs and prices should be comparable; as competitors. however the family packs were small pint sized containers, we essentially paid $8 per pint We also bought a combo late for my son for $10. Combo plates are a better deal for volume of food. He got half the about of food for $10. Still their pricing so more than Panda Express, which tastes better and fresher. Their teaspoon serving of sweet/sour and teriyaki sauces were flavorless. $2 fee for credit card should be included in prices as running business.

This place is wretched and disgusting, and stupid expensive!!! Rubbery bbq pork and orange chicken, food has hardly any flavor and no salt. Bland, super sugary and 15....FIFTEEN dollars for a box of Chinese food, which is unheard of. AND they charge 2 dollars for using your card My little brother ordered it and now hates his life. Haha.

After looking at menus and comparing we decided on Peking. Sure glad we did too! I have to say if you are ever in Ventura please give this place a try! First thing I noticed is this place is simple yet has a quality about it. I would bring a date here, rather maybe a second or third date. It's nice inside. Wait staff was amazing. Now to the good stuff! I ordered chicken chow fun and partner had Mushu pork and for the appetizer we ordered the paper wrapped chicken. The chicken hit the table first wrapped in tin foil. That didn't deter us at all. This was served with duck sauce and spicy mustard. The mustard was amazing but i love spice! Both were good but the mustard opened up my nasal passages and made me go wow!! Awesome! The two main dishes hit the table and we dug in. Both were great! Let me tell you how hard it is to find a good Chinese place that isn't swimming in soy and oil! This place seasoned correctly and was not greasy at all!! I will tell you this; if you like fast Chinese food like Panda Express and that is what you think of Chinese food then stay there. Here you'll get properly seasoned fair. Over all I recommend and when back in Ventura will visit again for sure! The pictures don't do this place justice.

Everything is flavorful without the greasiness. I like that they don't over season or drown their food in sauce so it seems healthier too. Welcoming staff and attentive service. Old school Chinese restaurant…read more Booths, reasonably priced lunch specials that include soup, rice and a fortune cookie. Also, super hot tea in a pot to share, the Chinese year calendar placemats, big round tables for large parties (5+) and a backroom for even larger parties. Yolanda's downtown put in a separate little backroom when they remodeled, but hardly any other restaurants seem to have them anymore. Love the vibe, but if the food sucked we wouldn't go. And we go, we go a lot, we are regulars. FRESHEST vegetables, soft velveted chicken pieces, not hard tasteless rubber chicken, and served HOT, freshly made and quick. On the lunch special menu, I recommend the chicken with string beans that comes with a full flavored brown sauce or the milder chicken with vegetables with a colorless clear glaze, both with vegetables so fresh and perfectly cooked, they can restart a healthy habit eating week. Hub is a fan of the hot and sour soup that comes with the lunch specials. He says it's the best he's had, and he eats out almost everyday all over. Also he likes the hot mustard they have. I guess there's a difference and he says there's is authentic and the best. I get the egg flower, which is plainer and just what I want if tucking in for some hot cozy soup before chicken, rice and vegetables, both served piping hot. They used to serve an egg roll with the lunch special, but no more and the fried rice used to have vegetable squares in it, but now only soy sauce it seems, in case you haven't been here in a while and don't know. Last, the orange chicken is really good and used to be my usual lunch special, but it got knocked off that pedestal by the chicken and vegetables, which along with the chicken and string beans, is craveable.

I sat for a little bit while the server was clearing the table next to mine to seat another party. I wasn't given a menu until that party was seated and given their menu. Almost immediately after the older lady approached to take my order but since I hadn't had time to look it over I asked for a minute, but I did order hot tea. After a few minutes I was ready to order. At that time the older lady still haven't brought me the tea. The server went to take the order of the table next to me, even though they were seated later than me, and then came to take my order. There were two times the server used my table to put things down that she couldn't hold on to when serving the table behind me. One was the water pitcher (I didn't have any water) and the second time was an empty bowl. She would grab it afterwards but didn't say anything at all both times. I thought that was a bit odd. Prices have gone up. They no longer give the fried wanton crisp with the lunch special. Fried rice was mainly rice, although I did find two little specks of egg. The soup also didn't seem to have as much ingredients as before either. Another thing I noticed was the tip percentages listed on the receipt was after tax. Although the food still tasted good, I will only stick to doing takeout from here.
