First time here... came in around 1:30 in the afternoon and there were only two tables occupied so it was very quiet. I wanted to grab something to go and the lady at the counter was very helpful w/recommending the chicken and broccoli (which was excellent) The reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is because I kind of got a vibe from her when I went to pay, I didn't feel compelled to tip as it was a simple/quick 1 item take out order...she looked at the slip after I signed it and made a "hmmph" sound? I found that to be a bit unprofessional. Definitely rubbed me the wrong way! I'd recommend giving them a try, based on the dish I ordered as I said was excellent. read more

What an AMAZING restaurant. Hats off to you China Kitchen. First, the food -- China Kitchen has a diverse menu with high-quality vegetarian options that many competitors lack. The dinner combos are a great deal and all the side dishes were great - the egg roll was crispy and fresh, the shrimp was delicious, and the fried rice was well-seasoned, fluffy, and moist. The entrees were truly the star of the show. We got Ma Po tofu (traditional style) and dry wok veggie-chicken. The tofu was soft and creamy and the Ma Po sauce provided the sichuan numbing we've been searching for in Southern California. The dry wok was deeply flavorful. The veggie chicken was moist and savory and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. the ambiance - China kitchen was well decorated and elegant. The traditional artwork and attention to detail, down to the light fixtures made this a dining EXPERIENCE, not just a simple meal. China Kitchen is one of those gems very hard to find. The ambiance was perfect. Not too crowded. Parking was a breeze. Ordered the Kao Pao Beef, delicious! And the Honey Orange Chicken was equally satisfying. But let me tell you, that fried rice, that was perfect, so tasty and full had to order one to go. First time here, there was only one lady working who was pretty overwhelmed, very short and a little rude. She let us know she hadn't had a break so we tried to excuse the service/attitude, because maybe she was just tired. There was only one other table there at the time. Sadly the soup had not 1 but 3 flies inside (that we found) , she did change it but we were left pretty grossed out. We just looked at each other . Waited a few minutes and she never came back . Place is older with paper menus. There was a couple there but it was empty otherwise. Space is old school with carpeting. Went back since my usual was closed (again as per my last review lol) and this place looked empty so we opted to have soup on this cold, February evening. We ordered: Wor wonton soup- much better in terms of filling Egg drop soup- tasty and your usual Dry wok beef- pretty delicious and spicy. I would order again. Crispy noodles- thin crispy noodles topped with a special chef gravy sauce and veggies. Would get again but request more crispy noodles as we are crunch lovers. We ate here for dinner last night, it's a "hole in the wall" restaurant in a strip mall near the new Home Goods store. A nice, quiet place where you can be comfortably casual, or dressed up. The waitress took some time to take our orders, but she was working as the ONLY waitress! I decided on the House Pan Fried Crispy noodles w/3 meats: Chicken, Shrimp, Beef (#95), with my husband ordering Dinner #A, w/Kung Pao Chicken. We also ordered Cheese Wontons for appetizers. Our dinner was brought out pretty quick after ordering, had good size portions, & was hot w/good flavor. The Wonton appetizer came right before dinner was served, & had a deliciously flavored cheese filling. This is a decently priced restaurant, w/affordable pricing for a dinner out. The waitress was the only person taking our orders this night, having approximately 5 tables to serve. She deserved alot of credit for being fast, & friendly. We complimented her on this point! I didn't catch her name, but believe I heard her say "Vivian" to another customer. By the time we were done, we had quite a bit of food left, actually needing "to go" containers! We have visited this restaurant many times. Recently we had friends from China come to visit. We had lunch here, and they loved it! They conversed in Mandarin with the waitress, and hit it off quite well. We really like the lunch specials (over 30 to choose from). With that you get soup, egg roll, rice and your entree choice, for a great price. One of our favorites is the "salt & pepper" fish... perfectly fried fish fillet with chilis and scallions. Making it even better is that it's just a mile from our house... so we eat here often. read more

I gave this place another chance. I called and was put on hold... for a while. I hung up & called back and they turned off the phones. So i went to the restaurant to order in-person. Unfortunately i wasnt greeted. There were a few people dining in and only 1 waitress, so i understand why she might've forgotten that i was on hold. Waited about 20-25 minutes before getting my food. I ordered the Vege Orange Chicken again, which cost around $16 and came with rice. This time, the food was better compared to my last review. I will start with the salt and pepper calamari. There is no way that calamari should look this way. I've eaten it many times. What are these rubber strings? Is this plastic mixed in with the fish? BTW this dish cost $14. Also the green beans and rice tasted like CHEMICALS. This was like a comically bad meal. Im so happy we stumbled upon China Kitchen! It is located in the plaza next to Bed Bath & Beyond and Target. You guys have to try their salt & pepper fish! OMGOSH so YUM! We came here on Cyber Monday pre-dinner hour, pretty quiet in the dining hall but quite a few people sat waiting to pick up takeout orders. What a shame, Chinese cooking is best enjoyed fresh from the wok. Food was excellent, had a home cook feel. We ordered Taiwanese Pork Rice Noodle, Sautéed vegetables and Shanghai Pork Juicy Bao, more than enough for two. We've asked the veg. to be well cooked and it was done perfectly for us. The owner served us personally and was very attentive. I think this place with a little bit of festive decorations is perfect for gatherings and parties because it's spacious and open and very clean. I'm a first timer to China Kitchen! A shared parking lot with other business, but ample parking for our visit. I arrived at 3pm and there was one other table that was seated. The restaurant was very clean! It was quiet in the restaurant with a very peaceful ambience. Myself and my party were seated right away by a friendly lady who also served us. We ordered 2 lunch specials, the Kung Pao chicken and the almond chicken. The lunch specials included steamed rice, an egg roll and soup along with a smaller portion of the main entree. We also ordered a regular size portion of sweet and sour chicken. Our drinks and fried noodles arrived very quickly and shortly thereafter came the soup. The egg drop soup good, but nothing super special to write home about. The meal then arrived and it was a let down. The steamed rice had a banana flavor, the insides of the egg rolls were mushy. The sweet and sour chicken was very good. The Kung Pao chicken didn't have the spicy kick that I am used to, so that was kind of a bummer. Neither myself nor my party could stomach the Almond Chicken because of the smell. The closest thing I could relate the smell to is that of a dirty or pee ridden truckstop bathroom. All in all, I won't be returning to China kitchen. It's a bit of a shame because the location is easy, the staff was great, the restaurant setting was good, but the food was just subpar. read more

I really really wanted to like the food. It was a special treat following a very minor medical procedure. But the food was just inedible. I ordered a small wonton soup & a pupu platter (or whatever they call this odd compilation of non-Chinese and other tidbits that's tacky, def not "foodie" & one of my favorites). My husband got sweet & sour pork--another Americanized dish eschewed by anyone besides children & child-like adults. The s&s pork was soggy, over-battered & yuk, with a thin, sugary red dye sauce with no other flavors besides sugar. It was the best dish. But hey, it's not really a measure of good Chinese food. The pupu platter included the worst egg roll I've ever eaten in my life. I'm not sure what, exactly, was going on, but the filling seemed & tasted like uncooked dough. No vegetables at all, and maybe the only solid thing was chicken--at least that's what I'm telling myself. The ribs were greasy and fatty, the beef skewer exceptionally tough. The wrapped chicken pouches were meh, which made them the best of the platter. No fried wontons. Then there was the soup: A good soup is a staple of all Asian cooking. This fell far far short. The broth was just boxed chicken broth, all by itself. Have you ever smelled boxed or canned chicken broth straight from the box? Seriously nasty. This soup was that with over-cooked, falling apart wontons, broccoli (didn't mess this up) & chicken. I got two bites in before bailing. It was so sad. I went to bed hungry. read more
