C5. Shrimp with Black Bean Sauce Lunch Special
Melissa L.

I can't believe that it's been so long since giving this spot an updated review. Spring Garden is definitely in my top favorite Chinese restaurants in all of the 805. It's consistently delicious, the lunch specials can not be beat, and the staff are so friendly and kind. I've been here for dinner a few times and you get the traditional menu and prices. But if I had to recommend this spot to someone I would highly recommend coming for their weekday lunch specials. For under $15 you get a complete lunch combo. The lunch dine in combos come with soup, a main, rice, and fried wonton chips. The portions are super generous and the food is always made fresh to order. My top dishes here include: - Orange Chicken - Mongolian Beef - Shrimp with lobster sauce - Shrimp with black bean sauce The staff here are also what make this spot 5 star worthy. I've been coming here for about 8 years and the same 2-3 gals work the lunch shift. These ladies are awesome. Super friendly and quick. I appreciate that when I'm coming in for a lunch break they get me out in order 30 minutes. I never feel rushed but I appreciate the hustle. I love the family and local vibes that this spot represent. I highly recommend coming for a weekday lunch if you're in Ventura. It classic Americanized Chinese cooking at a super reasonable price with a friendly atmosphere. I'm so glad I'm close to this spot because it's always a 10/10.

Met one of my besties here for lunch !!! What a great deal . 15 bucks for soup and entree of your choice ! Like what ? Those prices aren't heard of nowadays in our area. I got the Mongolian beef with white rice . It was tasty ! Service was friend and fast ! I was in and out within my allotted lunch time. Clean restaurant. Not super busy !

Can't stay away from chicken with veg

Yet another stop at Spring Garden after a Sesame Garden splurge and two happy eaters unwilling to take the drive to Camarillo drove around the block to Spring Garden. We learned we can't handle their lo mein so we took the chow fun alternative, our well loved chicken & vegetables and shrimp with snow peas for meeeeee. All were well enjoyed. I wish there were a way to keep snow peas to keep cooking once they pour it into the little black takeout containers, but you can't beat their white garlic sauce. Mine never tastes quite the same even with Shaoxing wine. Their shrimp are so tender and sweet. I finished the shrimp and snow peas by myself. Adding the water chestnuts is genius. Love visiting them every time I visit mom.

GETTING HERE: This restaurant is kind of hidden in the corner of the strip mall where Trader Joe's and Walmart are located, off Victoria Avenue. (Spring Garden is actually just a few businesses down from TJ's.) REVIEW: My guest was in the mood for Chinese Food and specifically craving Chow Mein. We were able to squeeze in here before their break at 3 PM. The restaurant was empty, but it makes total sense as to why. The server seated us quickly and brought our waters to us just as quick. She was nice and polite and very helpful. I ordered the Sweet and Sour Shrimp (no picture) and my guest ordered her Vegetable Lo Mein lunch special. The shrimp was very good, I will admit. There wasn't very much pineapple, sadly, and they were very small pieces. The onions and peppers were cut big and were had lots of flavor. And their Hot and Sour soup was amazing. I didn't have my socks blown off on this visit, but since it was our first time here, I will give them another go when I am in Ventura. I guess overall it was just OK? Would recommend mostly.

Not many Chinese restaurants to try in Ventura . Spring garden is one that you should give a try and will not disappoint. Located next to Trader Joes in Victoria. Good service and we do not need to wait for a long time for the food to be served. They served the wonton crisp while you wait for your food. We love the orange chicken, quiet different style than otherChinese restaurant, thin sliced chicken breast with the tangy sauce. The green bean also pretty good. Just give this restaurant a try while you are craving Chinese food

I tried the shrimp fried rice and it was dry yet sticky! The shrimp was a nice size but the rice wasn't what I was expecting!

Food is mediocre at best. Not served attractively. Have had better Chinese food elsewhere.

Drove into town from the dessert this evening and wanted Chinese. Checked out a few reviews and…read moreonly 2 places popped up that had at least 4 stars. After looking at menus and comparing we decided on Peking. Sure glad we did too! I have to say if you are ever in Ventura please give this place a try! First thing I noticed is this place is simple yet has a quality about it. I would bring a date here, rather maybe a second or third date. It's nice inside. Wait staff was amazing. Now to the good stuff! I ordered chicken chow fun and partner had Mushu pork and for the appetizer we ordered the paper wrapped chicken. The chicken hit the table first wrapped in tin foil. That didn't deter us at all. This was served with duck sauce and spicy mustard. The mustard was amazing but i love spice! Both were good but the mustard opened up my nasal passages and made me go wow!! Awesome! The two main dishes hit the table and we dug in. Both were great! Let me tell you how hard it is to find a good Chinese place that isn't swimming in soy and oil! This place seasoned correctly and was not greasy at all!! I will tell you this; if you like fast Chinese food like Panda Express and that is what you think of Chinese food then stay there. Here you'll get properly seasoned fair. Over all I recommend and when back in Ventura will visit again for sure! The pictures don't do this place justice.

Come here often for their lunch specials as it is close to work. One of the more authentic Chinese…read morerestaurants in Ventura. The food is consistently good. Everything is flavorful without the greasiness. I like that they don't over season or drown their food in sauce so it seems healthier too. Welcoming staff and attentive service. They serve dim sum on the weekends so will have to come back to try that.

You truly can't miss w/ the padthai: classic, perfectly balanced, & sooo satisfying. The papaya salad w/ shrimp was my personal fav; one bite had me craving more. I'm honestly drooling just thinking about it while writing this. The restaurant is on the smaller side & fills up rather quickly, often reaching a full house, so going earlier in the day is the best way to fully enjoy both the food & the experience. The servers are efficient, attentive, & keep everything moving seamlessly. If you love thai cuisine, this spot is a must visit. I highly recommend!

It was a cold rainy day. Not many people when we arrived,…read moreand with all of the doors open to the patio, it was COLD. even in the back near the kitchen. Pretty good vegetarian. Good portions. Pricey because of the location. PARKING There's a lot just up the street and plenty of street parking around. FOOD (lunch) Vegetarian options include fried tofu. Excellent. Portions are generous, but not "shareable" big for lunch. Great curry flavors. Not too spicy tho. It's a little in the expensive side - but that's the tax for being so conveniently close to everything. TOFU PANANG - Good. Not spicy at all. More rice would've been nice. CHICKEN PUMPKIN CURRY - Very Good. Tender pumpkin/squash pieces. SERVICE There were many to go and delivery orders today. We were given menus and the server (only one today) had to disappear to prep all of the dine out orders. We ordered, then they were gone again until drinks and food came together. INTERIORS I couldn't help notice all of the greasy cobwebs on the high ceilings and on some of the art. It's been here for a while - people like it, but you notice. (I think it's hard to reach & clean those areas) The chairs aren't very comfortable, but maybe that's just because it was so cold in here today. BATHROOM Serviceable.
