It is unfortunate when a customer has a disappointing dining experience, like I did. I ordered the Orange Chicken for lunch. My first bite was like chewing a thin, square piece of rubber! I had to use my napkin to remove it from my mouth. I selected another bite and had the same regrettable and embarrassing experience. I didn't have another napkin so I discreetly removed it from my mouth and concealed the second piece inside the napkin with the other piece. I love orange chicken but to make this situation even more dissatisfying, this thinly cut-in-squares chicken had no flavor whatsoever! It was bland, chewy chicken, and my rolled ball of brown rice was cold! I was too embarrassed to ask for another plate and instead asked for my check, paid and walked out very displeased! Just ordered Spring Garden for the 1st time for take-out. I usually eat inside the restaurant about 1x a month. The food is good and the service is okay. The service via take-out was timely and packaged very well. There was no leaking or spills and due to them double bagging everything, it all got home safely and was warm. My go to's are Chicken lo-me in, Kung Pao Chicken, Orange Chicken and the Chicken or Vegetable Lo-Mein. Parking here is a bit tight at times, due to being in the same parking lot at WalMart, Trader Joe's, Carl's and a few other places. Portions are excellent for take-out, but getting enough rice can be an adventure. And the last time I tried their three-shred sizzling rice soup, it was pretty short on shreds and long on vegetation. But the Moo-Goo-Gai-Pan is good, the Cashew Chicken is okay, but the sauce used to be tastier. The Mu Shu Pork is also very good, but, as with the rice you'll need extra pancakes, and the can't seem to add them to the delivery menu, so you'll have to ask$$ when you get there for a few extra$$. Teriyaki Beef Sticks are usually good, as are Paper Wrapped Chicken, and Cream Cheese Wontons. Ribs are "okay"...usually. read more

I ordered the war wonton soup. It was delicious it was affordable add it was very good lots of veggies, shrimp beef, chicken wontons it had at all. I also ordered the house special rice. It was OK not the right color of rice that I'm used to a little too dark maybe too much soy sauce but overall it taste good this had beef chicken and shrimp in it and egg. I also ordered eggrolls and those are very crispy and good. There's sweet-and-sour sauce was a little too late. I wish it was a little thicker and taste but overall I will come back for my war wonton soup at this location. Hope you all try it. read more

The food and service was terrible. The server took our order, brought my friends food after waiting 30 minutes and did not bring mine. After another 40 minutes my food came. I ordered the broccoli & snow pea dish, it was cold and did not have the spicy sauce on it. It was a plate of plain cooked veggies, cold & luke warm. I can do that! Isn't Chinese food usually fast, especially a plate of 2 vegetables ? The server never came back to ask how things were or if anything else was needed. We had to wait 20 minutes for the check. Since Sesame Inn and Seven Spice Kitchen both changed hands in Newbury Park, we've been looking for a decent Szechuan / Mandarin restaurant. Our travels take us past Victoria & 101 almost weekly, so we decided to give Spring Garden a try. We've now been there three times at lunch, and will go back again. The menu is somewhat limited, but the dishes we like have all been pleasant. We finally met Cindy, the owner, who chatted with us after we introduced ourselves. So far, we've enjoyed the Hot & Sour Soup. At other places, we often have to ask for more rice vinegar - not here. The soup is nice and peppery as well. We've now had a couple of black bean dishes, and have particularly enjoyed the shrimp with black bean sauce. I enjoyed the General Tso's Chicken, and thought that their Orange Chicken was particularly nice - a relatively thin layer of breading over all white meat chicken. On our next visit we'll try the Mu Shu. So far, we haven't had any pork or beef dishes, and lamb is completely missing from the menu. My favorites are the Wonton Soup this soup is simply beyond delicious the broth is perfect with all its ingredients and the deep fried shrimp is cooked to perfection and the sides they give are well made all the dishes they offer come at a very fair price and the Quality the Food is top notch. One day my family and I decided to stop by on a whim for a Sunday lunch, I have always been curious about this place since we see it every time we shop at Trader Joe's. The decor is not great and they only have a few tables inside. But wow! what they lack in restaurant sex appeal they make up for in the food 10 fold! We all ordered the lunch special which consists of a cup of soup, egg roll, fried or white rice and an entree all for an average price of 8.00. I honestly could not find anything to complain about, the food was good, the water (which is a big deal to me!!) was good and they even serve you tea and the traditional appetizer fried chow mein noodles that the kids love. While visiting my friend, we were craving some delicious Chinese food, so we placed an order for delivery at SG. This is my friends favorite place for take out and I can see why! We ordered egg drop soup, which comes with corn, bamboo(I think), and carrots and eggs of course, BBQ pork fried rice, and sweet and sour pork. The egg soup is definitely by far one of the best I've had in Ventura and maybe even in Ventura County. I feel like some places lack flavor or even egg in the soup, but with every bite I took, there was egg, corn, carrot or bamboo. The BBQ pork fried rice was also delicious and full of flavor. I normally like hot sauce mixed in with rice, but this is the first time that the rice was good on its own. Again, similar to the soup, there wasn't a shortage of the pork meat and the ratio to meat/rice and veggies were spot on! The pork was a little dry, but pork is one of those meats where you'd expect it to be dry, unless your at a hoity toity restaurant paying some serious dough. The sweet and sour pork also came in separate containers, which made the pork crunchy and delicious! I can't help but salivate while writing this review, because it's that good! I can't wait to go back to my friends place so we can order from SG again. The portions are huge too, so you'll definitely have plenty of leftovers for the next day. I keep ordering from this place because it's close to my house and the food is good, but to be quite honest the customer service can be lacking. If you're ordering food to go, do it over the phone instead of online. They print their online orders out into a closed cabinet beneath the front counter, and it's happened to me twice that I place an online order, it's "confirmed", and then I arrive to pick it up and they didn't even know I placed an order because they didn't look in the cabinet with the printer. And the most recent time I went, they also left items out of my order. Like I said the food is good, just make sure you order to go over the phone and check for all your items when picking up. read more

The worst experience I have ever had at this place. All my orders have been from the phone not to bad. When we got there we were rushed throughout the order and she was trying to do it to the guest coming through the door. I asked for a suggestion and she said pork and bean curd there was no pork in it and it was hard bean curd very bad hard and no flavor what so ever. May wife had shrimp and lobster sauce very marginal at best. She said, and promised that it was better in the house than it was to take out, and I've never been in there to eat, but it was better on takeout she stewardess wrong all dishes she steered us wrong on all dishes at the time. it's almost like she was trying to get rid of what was in the kitchen at the time poor service, poor attitude, bad meal. she tried to rushes through everything that was involved with our dinner experience. as if they were packed, but they were not. There was nobody there, and she was turning away people at the door. Went Thursday on the 13th and I had to throw away everything yesterday because it was smelling funky. Won't be back soon. 09.02.2017 We needed noodles for our family dinner/birthday celebration get-together. Hubby's favorite is double pan-fried noodles. I found this place on Yelp and am hoping it tastes as good as it looks. Our two orders of beef pan-fried noodles were demolished! The noodles were separate from the sauce for our to go order so they stayed crispy on our way home. The sauce was flavorful and had lots of pieces of beef, broccoli, onions and mushrooms. It was SO delicious!!! Now we know where to get our pan-fries noodle fix. I left the take our menu for my brother. He said they would try it when they get a Chinese food craving.
