Neta Shari is a real gem in an unassuming location. I've had many omakases and this is definitely one of my favorites. Service is outstanding as it appears they serve only one party per seating leading to a very personal experience. In addition, they have varieties of fish that I have never had before prepared creatively by a talented chef. The taste profiles and textural experiences made for a memorable evening. They also explained they plan to change the offerings in future omakases. As for value, the omakase was at least 50% less than I have paid for a top rate omakase. My first omakase experience was absolutely amazing. I am glad I chose Neta Shari which is conveniently located in my neighborhood as well. We did an early dinner this night and booked reservations for 6:15pm and as advertised, dinner lasted about an hour long. We opted for the 18 course meal which highlighted international and dry aged fishes. I was blown away by each and every course. My favorites were the yellow tail and king salmon. Since I was celebrating my birthday, the chef kindly gifted me a complimentary hand roll that was filled with wagyu, fluke belly and uni and topped with a candle. It was so special and so delicious. Went because it was deemed "noteworthy" in the Michelin guide. Went back because the food is so excellent. In between those two visits went to a "highly regarded" omakase in Manhattan that I did not enjoy nearly as much. Absolutely delicious! $75 for 15 pieces it's such an amazing deal. The quality of each ingredients is all high and fresh. Each piece that I had got better and better. The uni was actually one of the best uni I've ever had. I've been to a couple of omakase, and this uni just wowed me. Another piece I loved, was the scallop sushi; it was so fresh and sweet, it was amazing. All the pieces just melted in my mouth. Having a omakase in Bensonhurst area is very new since it's not common to have high end restaurants, but I find this great because it shows the neighborhood that there is amazing omakase without having to go into the city. I definitely recommend Neta Shari. There are only 3 staffs working and their attitude towards the restaurant is perfect. They are dedicated and super nice. We tried walking in one night but they declined us due to reservations being required. The reason is because they appropriate and portion out the expected diners. No problem, we then made reservations and came for dinner as planned for 3 of us. I like that it's intimate and relatively small. The 3 of us shared a chef with another couple. We saw that they had pre sliced most of the things so it was really just assembling it. While the lights are dim, I didn't really like the selection of plates that were used for the chef to put our sushi on. It wasn't wiped down each course. I also pay close attention to the chef's cleanliness in terms of their nails especially since you are assembling raw fish and sushi. Their appetizer was chiwanmushi which I really enjoyed. I also like that it was casual with the chef, meaning if you want to chat they will chat with you. If you didn't then they left you alone. The scallop was nicely sized and not cheaply sliced. The reason for the lower rating is because for the location in south Brooklyn, it's quite pricey (minus 1 star) and there were certain things that could have been a bit cleaner but that's my opinion (minus 1 star). read more

Welcome Neta Shari to Bensonhurst! There's a omakase drought in Brooklyn so I'm glad they decided to open up. I came with my boyfriend on grand opening day. Chef Kevin was accommodating and friendly (he trained in Japan!). As someone whose been to Sushi by Bou, Sushi Lab, and Domo Domo; the quality of Neta Shari is top notch. Due to the mishap, my sister and I were invited back by the owner Kevin to enjoy omakase here again. They are currently doing a seasonal special, $75 for 15 pieces+ app, 75 min dining experience. This time they got it right with all 15 pieces and it was a full house on a Thursday night! It is all bar seating as all omakase should be and seats about 12 people. I appreciate the fact that there are plexiglass dividers to ensure safety precautions. I was pleasantly surprised that my sushi chef (also named Kevin) remembered that I liked botan ebi which was not part of the omakase last time. However, it was part of it this time around! And in keeping with their claim that everything is seasonal and menu changes about every 2 weeks, I was able to experience 3 diff unis, artic char and botan ebi during this visit which wasn't part of the omakase last time. I truly enjoyed my experience here both times even tho I was short a piece last time. As each new restaurant is not without working out its kinks, I greatly appreciated that the owner owned up to their mistake and made it right! Food is fresh, service is great. The host made sure our water glasses were always full and even offered complimentary sake shots multiple times. There were also these little tablets that when you put water on, expands into wipes to clean your hands with before eating. I thought they was a great touch and is usually something you see in fancy restaurants. People go to a restaurant to eat good food but return for service and this place embodies both. Very low key spot hiding amazing treasures. Recommended by my friend this Omakase experience did not disappoint. The inside is small and very simplistic with only seating at the bar. The food was amazing, fresh and made to order, served one at a time really giving you the Omakase experience. The 16 course was $75 per person and must say it was very good! They do have limited quantities, I wanted to try other a la cart items, but a few weren't available. so I would definitely make a reservation to make sure you get accommodated. Update. I got some orders for take out (yes I take out sushi) but they ran out of eel, which happens. Since they ran out, I ordered the salmon $5 more and they were adamant about me swiping my card for $5 additional because they ran out (order was over $200 because it was a 4 boxes). They might be in the Michelin guide but they definitely are not Michelin star. I ordered an omasake box first time scheduled for 5:30, I get there at 5:15 and it was already ready. If I went at 5:30, it's not supposed to sit out that long. Read another review and they ran out of uni and replaced it with ikura. Why is it when they run out of something the customer gets the short end of the stick? They're Chinese pretending to be upscale Japanese. These guys do not care about their customers. read more

Since we're throwing additional details: -Two of 3 came on time, explaining the last one is stuck on train, to arrive in 5 mins, two stations away. And server was present when I made that call. -We cannot just have the food plated separately -Was not allowed to sit without full party of three. -Called prior times and was asked to book through OpenTable, instead of directly. This a very belated review, but I'm a huge fan of this place, and I've been here twice already with plans to return. There's a tranquil spacious bar for the omakase, and they spread out the seating so that you don't have to sit to close to a stranger. It's a great deal ($75 for 14 pieces plus appetizer) for omakase, especially given the quality. We had: Chawanmushi with truffle and roe Tuna with garlic Fluke with salted kelp Hokkaido sea scallop with lime zest Red snapper with Japanese plum and Shiso sauce Santa Barbara Uni Mackerel with grated ginger Firefly squid with soy sauce and miso Spotted prawn Hamachi yellowtail with scallion Stripejack with yuzu pepper paste A5 Miyazaki wagyu Hokkaido Uni Otoro with truffle sauce clam - extra, the chef was testing this out as a possible add to the line up saltwater eel with sea salt and yuzu Absolutely loved the sea scallop with lime zest, and the spotted prawn with super sweet and fresh. Honorable mention for the firefly squid, which you don't see very often in New York. Also love that they have three different types of sea urchin, so that you can compare flavors if you're not familiar with which is your favorite. The Chawanmushi was creamy, and went very well with the truffle and roe. The only piece I didn't absolutely love was probably the saltwater eel, but that's more a personal preference regarding eel texture. The service here is friendly, and the chef is always looking for feedback so that he can make improvements to the menu. Pieces are all generously sized considering the deal of a price. These are my thoughts. The product was quality point blank. We went in at 5:45 PM hungry. Each selection dazzled more than the other. They recently got their liquor license so no more BYOB. Hope that they introduce wine and beer. The scallop, branzino believe it or not, and the fatty tuna were among some of my favorites. The uni from Maine stood up to Japan, which was a huge surprise, but it is in season so we scored there. The only gripe is that their menu isn't extensive and doesn't go past the Omikase. The game changer for me, the chef over loaded wasabi on 9/15 pieces, my nose was burning. I couldn't taste the piece of fish/meat but instead would have a burning feeling in my nose of wasabi. Very minimal interaction with the sushi chefs, the host/waiter was phenomenal. Shots on the house definitely blossomed the vibe, but the chefs have to do better with serving. There were two sushi chefs and it really felt like we had our own individual chef who was focused on us. For $75 for 16 pieces omakase, the quality was amazing and a steal. Some of our favorite from the omakase: - Flounder aged 2 days - melt in my mouth - Hokkaido sea scallop with lime zest - really enjoyed the way they cut up the scallop so the zest and flavors seep into the scallop. - Artic char with Yuza miso - my husband really liked this one and it tasted like salmon but with a nice char to it - black fin tuna seasonal with ponzu and scallons - melt in your mouth goodness with lots of ponzu - Santa Barbara uni - creamy and sweet, huge piece. What i enjoyed is that they were very transparent [with a menu] with the prices if you want additional pieces afterwards. Also, there was a previous yelp review on a speciality roll The chef believed that was a special request from that individual and not something they offer as part of the menu. Currently no alcohol offered but there are soft drinks which were nice to try. I will be excited to come again when they offer alcohol as well. It's alright but the value for money dropped the rating from 3 to 2. The fish wasn't that fresh or not properly prepared it had a slightly bitter taste. According to google, bitterness indicates improper cutting or spoilage (but we didn't get a stomach ache so no spoilage). Sometimes the fish is bitter by nature, but most cases involve processing and cleaning. I asked my chef how long he has been doing this and he said only half a year .. so take that how you will. There were only two chefs, I went at 7:00. The pieces were filling to say the least (lots of rice). Also, just a picky interior design thing but the place is seemed a little dingy, there are two rows of light one behind the chefs and one by the seating. Only the seating lights were open. ALSO this place doesn't take cash. Won't be going again. I think you can get a run for your money elsewhere read more
