I've been going to Nellie's for years. Although I usually order a pizza (fresh garlic topping YUM), their other food is always good as well. They have outdoor seating that's open through most of Autumn - very cozy and welcoming. I went here with my family for a casual lunch and was pleasantly surprised. I heard that they had redone it and someone I was with had been before the improvements and said the atmosphere was not great, but the improvements made it better. The pizza was excellent- thin crust which I like and they had some delicious speciality ones. The buffalo fingers were also really good. We came around lunch time and the place really started to get crowded so it seems that it is more popular with the improvements. All in all, I would go back and recommend this place to people. read more

Nellie's, in Waldwick, is a local hangout for the Waldwick, Saddle River Ho-Ho-Kus 40 plus crowd. Pizza is marvelous, steaks are cooked to your specifications and there is usually, an innovative fish or seafood entree on the daily specials. I especially love the steak au poivre (cooked in cracked peppercorns) bleu cheese burgers, ribs and wings for the non gourmet. Nellie's really tries to please, bartenders, waitresses and Joe (the owner) will bend over backward to make everything right. Very pleasant crowd at the bar, sports talk dominates but a good mix of young, old, somewhere in the middle and the occasional stunner in a mini skirt. Been going here for more than 20 years. Always okay, but it seems these days, if you stray from the burgers, pizza or wings (I wish you could get them hot-their hot is no more than medium, but are very tasty), you could be in for a disappointment. Also, their ridiculous hostess set up, with two different waiting lists, and three when the outside is open, makes no sense and is unfair. I guess they never heard about computers there. read more

Update: I love the food. The problem here is the wait for a table! FOREVER!!!! One of the hostesses is also very rude. Stopped by on Saturday afternoon at 5:00pm. Walked and wanted to watch the Yankee game. Mind you the place was quite empty. My wife and I asked to sit at a high top where we can see the game. The hostess told us that "this table is for 3-4 people." The hostess suggested us a two person high top where one of us would not be able to see the tv. We wanted to sit at a spot where we can both see the game. She then offered the bigger table, but at that point our decision was made that they didn't want to accommodate us. I tried the Spinach Dip here tonight for the first time. It was good! Salty and garlicky. It came with toasted slices of italian bread - I wish it had been served with chips instead. You can only eat so many pieces of bread before you get way too full (sick of bread overload). read more

Being that I grew up in the town Nellie's is located in I'm a little biased. With that being said, I do really believe that it's a great place to grab a drink and order thin crust pizza. They also have Elkin chicken wings, which no one really knows what's on them but they are so good I have to get them every time. I try to get something different but I always resort to the basics because you can never go wrong. They recently redid the inside bar area and it's a lot nicer to hang out in. During the summer months the back porch is open so it's nice to sit outside and have a good meal. The staff is always very friendly and I never feel pressured to leave. read more

Salad bar was excellent, but our actual food was terrible. The ribs were overly burned, the cheesesteak was greasy and flavorless, and the buffalo chicken was cold. I suspect that if we strictly ordered pizza and beer I would have liked it here. The front part of the restaurant is very noisy and bar-like. Probably the first place I know of in a long while that still charges for refills on fountain drinks. While the food is decent, the decor could use some sprucing up, as well as the manners of a small few (definitely not most) servers. Major disappointment! Last night we went to Nellies for dinner at about 7 PM and chose to sit outside. Drinks were brought in a timely fashion however our meals were not. Mine was served with the wrong side order . When our food finally arrived, we were left sitting there waiting for the only waitress to bring utensils and napkins which never arrived. As our food grew cold and we waited for the waitress to return to the area just so we could summon her to bring utensils, I became very disappointed in what used to be a great place and good food. Eventually one member of my party chose to go into the kitchen to find the waitress so we could obtain takeout containers and bring our food home. What a disaster!!! read more

This was the most horrendous food experience of my life. The waitress was extremely obese and kept getting her fat rolls and sweat on my face when she leaned over me to put down utensils, plates, etc. We had waited over 1 hour for our food when all we got was burgers. I hosted my mom and sister's family at Nellies for my birthday since it is mid-way between us. It was a very disappointing experience. The table we were placed at was very small for our group. The waitress seemed to be phoning it in,,, Disinterested and not very helpful. Plates weren't cleared and we had to gather, stack and remove appetizer plates when food came. Ruby Tuesdays, Charlie Browns and other places I have been have much better salad bars. The eggplant parm I had was very dry and tough and unpleasant. The chocolate cake was dry and had a funny taste to it. I haven't been to Nellies in a while, but it used to be good. I do not know if I will be going back. I certainly will not plan a party there again. read more

I've been going to Nellies for years. There are three things I adhere to. Said things consist of crispy-naked (not breaded, which I prefer) buffalo wings, the best thin crust pizza around, and French onion soup. The place is newly renovated and looks incredible; high tables, more televisions, etc. Their beer selection has also increased which is always a plus. The service is always good and the food is consistent. This is a popular spot for locals so most people know one another. If you're a fan of thin crust pizza or buffalo wings, I would highly recommend Nellie's. read more

Me and hubby are new in town and wanted to try Nellie's because it always looks busy! I am so glad we did, the staff is super sweet. The atmosphere is family friendly (come with the kids) and the vibe is so alive it is contagious. It is the type of place you come to just be you and enjoy nice homey food. Nellie's has always been our favorite pizza place, tonight just solidifies that. We ordered take-out, and by mistake our side dishes were not what we ordered. I called up to let them know, and spoke to a gentleman who apologized and asked for our address and that it would be dropped off. In about 20 mins, our side dishes were delivered by the owner of Nellie's. He went out of his way to make sure we got what we ordered, and we couldn't believe how nice and awesome of a gesture that was. Thank you again for going out of your way, we really appreciate it. Wow we've going here for over twenty years and tonight was terrible. When we walked in a baseball team was in the back. We asked to sit in the front and got an eye roll. Sorry they are screaming!!! The older lady that helped us never smiled and was mad when we asked for clean plates cause the ones she gave us were dirty. The pizza tasted like it was from the freezer and the fried calamari had absolutely zero flavor. So disappointed. We had five dollars left on a gift card and they won't give us cash back. Why?? Went for a second time and am neutral about this place. It seems like they're not sure what their identity is. They have pizza, sandwiches and then steaks and specials like pork chops. First time we had fish n chips and a sandwich as it was late lunch. Sandwich portion was huge but it was put on top of each other and not put together well so it was all sloppy. Had to eat it with knife and fork because it was such a mess. Flavor was ok nothing crazy but the chicken was chewy like it was reheated. Not sure that's what was done it may have just been over cooked. Price wise it was a little high for a sandwich and fries but they gave you a lot so I guess it made up for it. It would have been two meals but it wasn't worth eating a second time. The fish n chips were good but excessively greasy in the breading. The fish was cooked perfectly the breading was nice after I mopped up some of the oil. When it leaves a puddle in the basket because the chips can't absorb any more it's a little much but it was good. Service was lacking as the waitress was very short almost rude and had no patience for us. Was worse when we told her it was our first time and asked for any recommendations she rolled her eyes and gave us the "I don't what you people like." There was a waiter or greater who kept staring at my 17 year old daughter like a piece of meet so half way through and on his second time walking around checking and wiping the tables despite being the only people there I had to ask him to stop. Second time there our wait staff was less then stellar again. Had a younger man who had no interest in being a waiter. No hello, no good greeting, no name just asked "what do you want to drink" in those exact words. My wife and I shared a pizza and a salad. Salad would have been good had it not been drenched in dressing. When the lettuce is limp and soggy it's not good. So word of advice ask for it on the side or get the salad bar. Which is a good option. Did that our first visit. The pizza was ok. As one other reviewer mentioned ask for it to be done well. Ours came out semi cold that instead of the cheese being hot and stretchy/gooey it was solid. Good though the cheese went all the way to the edge of the pizza. We haven't tried any of their higher priced items or specials so we may give a third try and see. Not saying you need to avoid this place just think it will be good if you're visiting it for the bar to watch a game or something and eat while drinking or just don't expect a place that will knock your socks off. read more
