Nellie's Place pretty much rocks. I don't get all these mediocre reviews at all. Their pizza is incredible (what a pizza was meant to be) and everything else we have tried has been awesome. From the spaghetti & meatballs to the sampler platter appetizer (the potato skins actually have potato in them and are loaded!) to the Elkin wings which are a salty goodness you can't imagine, we have never been disappointed with their food. They have great beers on tap including Smithwick's and Guinness, great service and great prices. This is a fabulous, inexpensive American restaurant which is well worth the trip! read more

Standard bar fare, but even that done only marginally. Pizza was thin crust only and not too bad. Tried sliced steak sandwich but was on stale bread, untoasted. Fries were good. Service was very poor. I've never had a waiter huff and puff and literally walk away when we were too slow to finish an order. For one of the kids, he began taking the order but when she was taking her time and asking about a selection, he mumbled something under his breath and moved to the next person. When I asked him to finish my daughters order first, he turned and left and didn't return to complete more orders for 10 minutes. For the orders themselves, he got the drinks wrong, didn't ask how things were and didn't attend the table at all. Very very disappointed. If you go here, prepare for a noisy mess with a menu that is filled with loose pages of loosely organized selections and prepare for the worst service in the business. We love the pizza here and I recommend it to everyone that asks. I enjoy their soups during the winter too. I've had a few other things in the menu and usually pretty good. The last few times we went the food took FOREVER. The last time was a random Thursday afternoon around 2pm and the place was not busy at all. So I am not sure if they are short on staff or what. My husband saw an ad in the local paper for Nellie's which stated that they offered gluten free items. We decided to take the 25 minute ride on a Sunday night to check them out. We arrived and they were quite busy, but we were seated promptly. We quickly chose our items since I had reviewed their menu before arriving. My husband ordered a plain cheese pizza and I ordered a gluten free pizza with light cheese and mushrooms. We waited. And we waited. And we waited and then the couple next to us who were seated long after us, was served their pizza. The waiter then asked us what we ordered. We went over it again and he went to the kitchen. After 10 minutes the waiter comes back and explains that they burned the gf pizza and were making another. I asked him to bring out my husband's order. I also asked him to be honest because we weren't happy about waiting for them to start the order all over again. He went back to the kitchen and did not come back out-for a long while :( We were hungry and aggravated at that point. The place was noisy and we had had enough. We left some money on the table for my husband's soda and walked out. Frankly, to wait that long for a crappy gf pizza which is not even made in house was not worth the trouble. Nellies used to be great. It was always a favorite of mine and I would go frequently but lately the quality of the food, especially takeout, has gone way downhill. Tonight's food was awful. The calamari was the worst I have ever had anywhere. Everything there used to taste homemade and now it appears they are just using pre-made frozen foods. I have felt sick to my stomach since dinner. I discovered this place on my lunch hour with a colleague of mine. Very nice local place. I got the burger with Irish bacon and it was very good. The burger was a little dry but the Irish bacon was tasty. Next I want to try the Irish BLT. My colleague got the cheesesteak and she really enjoyed it. Service was also very friendly. I could not believe my eyes when I walked into the NEW Nellies Place last night. What a new fresh young look. One of the best atmospheres in Bergen county. Although it has a new look the food and prices have not changed. Very, very good food and taking the family or hanging with friends to watch a game won't set you back. Fun staff too, I've had some great laughs at the bar. Someone did complain that they charge for refills. I'm confused, if you went to Dunkin Doughnuts and got a coffee do you really think they will give you another for free. Hands down Nellies has the best wings, pizza and panninis in BC. I once came here with a few friends and not only did we have to wait 15 minutes to be seated because there were no staff walking around the place to notice we were there, but our waitress was incredibly rude to us. My friend ordered potato skins without bacon (because she's allergic) and when they brought them out, they didn't take out ANY of bacon. Luckily, we noticed before she ate one. After everyone has their food and is almost finished, I'm wondering where my food (Mac n cheese) is. I tell the waitress that she never gave me my food and she kindly apologized and asked if I still wanted it. Being hungry, I said yes. You get to know the waitresses by name and they get to know your favorite orders. If you're looking for something different then you NEED to try their Elkin wings. They perfect combination of salty, tangy, lemony with so much flavor! The absolute best, and you can't find them anywhere else. Also, their pizzas are great. I love the white pizza, and the veggie pizza is great too. Another favorite is the french dip panini! Most of the menu is typical bar food, but there are some great finds on the menu, and some great specials on the wall. You can't beat the atmosphere. It feels like everyone knows everyone! We have been here twice in two weeks. We had the elkin wings. The margerita pizza with mushrooms and sausage. And the mussels marinara. Sitting outside on the patio at night was very relaxing and enjoyable. The waiters are young and very sweet. Trying to give you what ever you want. The salad bar is also a great addition. Stopped here the other day for lunch with my wife. I had the Rasher burger which is a burger with Irish bacon and cheddar cheese I had it medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. My wife had the Salmon lunch special with capers over spinach also very good. Her dish came with the salad bar that has many different items. All the items on the salad bar look and taste very fresh. We had a small sausage pizza for appetizer as I have heard that the pizza was outstanding and believe me it did not disappoint. We each had an ice tea and the bill only came to $35 dollars before the tip. We were surprised as to how reasonable it was. It's pretty cheap ($9 for a large pie), and if you're a huge fan of thin crust pizza, you'll love it. As customers that frequent there quite often and meet up with friends I have to say my husband and I enjoy the food. Can't say that for the bartender, he either likes you or he doesn't, and I guess my husband happens to be one of his dislikes. He will wait to be served while everyone around us even the company we are in get catered to. Last night it was almost 10 minutes, our company even remarked on it. My husband is a very genuine, funny, non aggressive kind of person, and gets along with everyone so why this seems to have happened on more than one occasion I don't understand. I brought this to the attention of Eric(bartender)and his response was to take MY drink away from me for merely commenting on what had just happened. his retort was rude and argumentative. I have never been confronted by anyone like this before and am beyond shocked that this happened. Rather than get confrontational (still shocked at Eric's response)we asked to speak with Chris (the owner) while I don't expect anyone to downplay an employee in front of customers, Chris did speak with us regarding the issue, and he offered to pick up our tab (didn't expect that, but under the circumstances we thought it a nice gesture). Definety will not go back there due to the bartender, which apparently according to others my husband hasn't been the only one who has been treated like this by him. read more

Came on a Saturday and sat in the bar area. Both beers that were on the beer menu and that I wanted were not available and eventually was shown a written list of what was left available..Fine. Ordered Wings, a Fra Diablo Pizza and Fries all great healthy college football foods. The wings came out and ate a few flats but then ate a drum and noticed it was a little pink, fine... Then ate a bigger one and was really pink actually red by the bone. So after about 10 minutes trying to find the waitress whcih was MIA we told her it was undercooked. Now clearly you can see in the light they were under but she came back and said the manager said its not under because they double fry them. First off why didn't a manager come to the table and explain to me and apologize. Secondly why would you try to rebuttale with a customer if you can clearly see it was not cooked throughout. Single fry, double fry, triple fry i don't care, they were undercooked plain and simple. Fries tasted bland and weren't crispy as well but the pizza did have a nice taste to it i must say that was the only saving grace. I have to admit that I'm not sure why everyone loves their pizza. The thin crust is nice, but otherwise there is nothing notable about it. The sauce is nondescript, at best. It's just...forgettable. Star Tavern in Orange serves a much better, more flavorful pizza in a similar style. Also tried a burger while I was here, and the meat was comically dwarfed by an overly large roll.
