When I come back to a spot I love, I want the same dish prepared the same way every time -- that's literally why I keep coming back for it. It was pretty crowded, so I get that things get hectic, but that's not really an excuse for some of what happened service-wise. We ordered the corn fritters and oysters to start, and both came out cold. I'm not the type to send food back or make a scene about it, so I just ate it and moved on. For entrees, I got the Escovitch fish and my lady got the oxtails. The oxtails were way too fatty with barely any actual meat on them. My Escovitch -- flavor was there, it's always been good, that's not the issue. The issue was the portion of the sautéed onions and carrots that come with it. Last time I got this dish, that came with a solid, generous serving of those veggies to eat alongside the fish. This time I got what looked like the very last scoop from the pan -- barely enough to go with a couple bites of fish, let alone the whole plate. If that was intentional, like it's just supposed to be a garnish amount, fine, I'd understand that. But that's not what I got last time, so it felt more like I just got the bottom of the pot instead of an actual full serving. The BBQ mac and cheese also threw me off a bit -- noodles seemed unusually thick. But the GM actually came by to check on us, and when I mentioned it he explained it's gluten-free, which made total sense. Still tasted good, just personally not a fan of how big the noodles are. Drinks were subpar too, which surprised me because they're usually on point. Might've been a newer bartender, not sure. I didn't ask for anything off the bill or comped -- I ordered it, I paid for it, even with the hiccups. I just really hope whoever's in the kitchen tightens up on consistency, because the flavor foundation here is genuinely good. This isn't a bad-place review -- it's a "y'all had an off night" review. I'll be back.

I had the Crispy Shrooms. Really good. Jollof rice is definitely a different and unexpected texture and flavor, very good. For the main dish was the Lobster Cashew curry. Absolutely beautifully presented and delicious. I should've follow my server advice about the rice. jollof rice must pair really good with meat. Not that much with seafood. I think the prices are very reasonable even for the wine. Service is impecable. Music Level perfect. Definitely coming back to try all the menu.

Lowcountry Backyard was one of those places that feels like it's been there forever in the best…read morepossible way. Quirky, unpolished, a little tucked away, and absolutely full of character. It doesn't feel corporate or manufactured at all. More like you've stumbled into somebody's lovingly chaotic backyard dinner party where the food just happens to be genuinely top-tier. The mismatched charm, handwritten feel, and warm atmosphere are part of what makes it so special. There's this brilliant contrast between the laid-back hole-in-the-wall vibe and the seriously refined cooking coming out of the kitchen. We started with the fried green tomatoes which were incredibly tender, fried perfectly, and drizzled with a lovely house-made ranch. The sweet house pickles alongside were such a good touch. We also each had a cup of she crab soup which was beautifully seasoned and packed with tonnes of crab morsels. For mains, we shared the shrimp and grits and completely understood why the recipe has won awards, including being recognised as the 3rd best in the world. The recipe is rooted in traditional Lowcountry cooking but elevated with layers of flavour that somehow still feel comforting and homemade. The grits were unbelievably creamy, and the shrimp and sausage were perfectly cooked with fantastic flavour throughout. We also split the seafood purloo with blackened grouper, and it was equally impressive. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted incredibly fresh without trying too hard to be fancy. What really made the experience though was the staff. Everyone went above and beyond. They took time to chat with us about the area, paced the courses perfectly so nothing felt rushed, and by the end we were leaving with handshakes feeling more like guests than customers. Places like this are getting harder to find. We'll absolutely be back and would recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Lowcountry food served by genuinely wonderful people.

Except for the fried green tomatoes- those were very good, dipped in blue cheese dressing (ranch was bad, tasted like plain mayonnaise with a parsley sprinkle) The pimento cheese appetizer was so disappointing! Tasted like cream cheese mixed with packaged shredded cheddar and 3 small pieces of raw red pepper; served with stale corn chips and uninspired pita. Was so looking forward to good homemade pimento cheese in the south! The grouper sandwich was sad, my friend only ate the fish and left the bun and tomatoes on the plate. The mac and cheese was even sadder, described as baked mac and cheese it was more like old leftovers, cold, separated noodles that were really dry. The shrimp blt salad- the aforementioned fried green tomatoes were the best part. The bacon was cold and floppy and kind of unchewable. It was served on wilted arugula. I'm so confused by all the rave reviews! Maybe this was a one off.

Since reading the reviews prior to visiting, I wanted to try the Oyster Po-Boy. On the lunch menu, they had Combos where you can order a half Po-Boy along with soup or Gumbo for $13.95. The Oyster Po-Boy added an extra $1.00. So that's what I ordered----half oyster Po-Boy with Shrimp & Corn soup. The soup tasted like it may have been homemade. It was excellent with at least 6 medium size shrimp along with a delicious corn and seafood broth. The half Po-Boy was definitely a good size packed with large fried oysters. They had a separate room which I didn't visit. I'm guessing for larger parties or overflow. I believe they also serve alcohol although I didn't see a bar when I was there. Mainly people there for breakfast, brunch or lunch.

The brisket was so heavily seasoned that I had to drink water throughout the evening, and the turkey was nearly as salty. As a catering chef who has prepared brisket myself, I have never experienced meat this over-seasoned. The salt completely overwhelmed the flavor and ruined what could have been a very enjoyable meal. After spending $44, I expected much better. I even received a call from my doctor regarding my blood pressure, which made the excessive salt especially concerning. The cooking quality was there, but the seasoning needs significant improvement.

The outside looks to be going through some renovation, but the interior looks like it's almost done. Open space, nice and fresh. You place your order at the counter (2 menus- one for dine in, one for take away) and they bring it to your table. We both ordered the chicken sandwich, one Nashville, one regular and made meals of it with tater tots and chips. We both had tea, though they had Coke products as well. The chicken was very freshly fried and delicious. Great taste. Both the tots and chips were also nice and crispy, plus piping hot. Couldn't ask for nicer or quicker service. We chatted with the owner/chef on our way out- couldn't have been nicer. Highly recommend and we'll be back to try other menu items (chicken dinners, shrimp and grits etc.). Plenty of 'southern' representation on the menu to choose from without being too greasy or over-the-top. This felt like home cooking in a trend forward atmosphere. Don't let the exterior discourage you from trying- you'll be glad you did.

Debbie and I stopped in about an hour before closing, not expecting much--just a quick bite. What we got instead was hands down one of the best seafood meals I've had in a long time. First off, we met the owner, Jim Scully--absolute legend. Friendly, genuine, and actually takes the time to sit and chat. You just don't see that anymore. Great conversation, great energy... set the tone right away. Now let's talk FOOD... * Fried oysters & shrimp - ridiculously good. Light, crispy, not greasy at all. You can tell everything is top quality. * Coleslaw - vinegar-based, shredded, and honestly reminded me of proper German kraut salad. Perfect balance with the seafood. * Soft shell crab... alright, this is where things got serious. "It was like a circus in my mouth... just an explosion of flavors." I'm not exaggerating. The texture was creamy, not oily, and the batter was just perfect. One of those bites where you just stop and look at each other like... yep, this is special. On top of that: * Everything is made with high-quality ingredients * Prices are very reasonable for what you're getting (honestly, some places charge double for worse) * BYOB (bring your own wine/beer = big win ) * Huge menu--seafood, ribs, BBQ, pulled pork, chicken, desserts... you name it Final verdict: (three thumbs up from Debbie & me) If you're in Hilton Head and even thinking about seafood--this is a hidden gem you don't want to miss.
