Side note: We sat next to a table of two young children who were watching videos on two different tablets with the volume blasting while their parents sat at an adjacent table with another couple. Parents of these children, have a little self awareness and tell your kids to put their tablets on mute or buy them some headphones or earbuds. WTF? Service: Our waitress did a good job of getting our drink orders correct and our food came out pretty quickly 4/5 Food: I had the patty melt and my wife had a burger. The food was above average. 3.5/5 The beer: This is where things went sideways . I've had SBB's core beers before and they are pretty solid, especially the Damn Yankee IPA. We decided to get two flights of beer. The flights had all 8 of their small batch releases. They were terrible. I would only order 1 out the 8 again. The two Belgian beers and the sour had a strong vinegar taste. The others were unremarkable. 1/5 I'd go back for the core beers and food, but would be very leery ordering any small batch beers Overall rating 2/5. First time, not really beer people but the Mexican place near by was too loud for my visiting sister so we popped in. So happy we did!! Had two very good cocktails and some memorable bites!! After lot nine brewing my friends and I were driving around and we decided to also hit the southern barrel brewing off of Buckwater Parkway in Bluffton. We stopped in at six and we waited maybe about 20 minutes for someone to come to our tables; they had a big sign out front that said see yourself. After someone came to the table I asked a question about their sour. Lately some of the sours at certain breweries are either made with milk or dairy to make them a cream sour and I asked the lovely gentleman behind the bar and he said he was "unsure". He told me they had a new brewmaster and he was not aware of what he is doing to the different brews. So instead of getting a local tap I got a seven dollar can of the neutral orange hard seltzer. Granted I really wanted to support local and get a local beer however I'm not gonna be chancing it if you are unsure of what is in your Sours. I am assuming that this brewery is definitely a hotspot for the locals because it seems like everybody knows everybody in the bar. Right behind where you sit at the bar there are the vats for brewing their beers. Off to the far left they also have a party room for private parties. The ambience of a Southern barrel brewery is a cute local brewery with board games that you can play I'm assuming it gets really busy they also have it decorated with Christmas lights. 10/10 definitely recommend read more

Spiced and flavorful, if you're into hoppy beer this is it and takes you straight to a DWI checkpoint at 8.6, hanging back and still loving the twang. Wild bramble - to finish with a sweet and sour berry based brew. UNIQUE , and I love it. Expecting sweetness to ruin the moment... tart knocks it out of the park. Brewery and restaurant is rustic and quiet , lots of space , guarantee there will be golf and n at least one of the screens. Worth a stop in. 3-28-24 Our neighbors we wanted to eat out with and they picked this place. Being new to the area didn't know what to expect. The service was slow and the food was lousy. I was very happy to just get a salad to eat as I was uncertain on how well it would sit in my stomach. Their food arrived greasy and overcooked. Please see photos of this lackluster event. Southern Barrel Brewing truly has great potential. When my wife and I visited on 7/13 we were greeted by friendly attentive staff who immediately apologized for the lapse in A/C. Our server thanked us for staying and gave praise to the staff who were working through the warm conditions. Southern Barrel had fans in place for additional air circulation. There were 8 other customers in the bar when we arrived at around 4:00PM. We were visiting the area from Virginia, so we are no strangers to the heat. On 7/16 I verified that the A/C has been fixed and is cranking cool and comfortable temps inside. This place is ready to rock! I love the fact that the wide variety of beer choices are brewed on site. Our friendly server briefly sat with us and asked us a variety of questions to help with our choice of refreshment and offers us samples. Our cold beer was promptly delivered in plastic cups (certainly glasses are preferred). We asked our server if we could have glasses, she said that the only glasses available are dedicated to their "Mug Club". She must have shared our comments about the cups with one of the owners. The owner came over to speak with us. What a lovely and gracious person! We had a great conversation with her. We found out that she is an author of children's books too! Vinny thanked us for our business and putting up with heat. She explained that not only the A/C was down but the dishwasher was down too otherwise we would certainly get glasses. She graciously offered to give us Mug Club mugs that were no longer being used to take with us which we politely declined. The quality and flavor of our choice of brews was top notch. I chose the "Damn Yankee New England IPA" my wife chose the "Cali Bogie Boat Beer" my second round was the "Beach Bully American IPA". If my review was only about the beer, and friendly service, Southern Barrel would have earned five stars. Southern Brewing has a great venue, location and will be a huge success. Hopefully the problems are short term. Frosted glasses would be a nice touch on a 95 degree South Carolina day. read more

Beer is cold and there are many choices. We tried a couple flights being this was our first time there. Food was good. Pizza is greasy though. They were out of several things so we had to go with second choices. The wings (lemon pepper) were very salty. The BBQ was better but they seemed over cooked. The Cuban flatbread wasn't too cooked but still had decent flavors. Overall I would stick with appetizers and beer. The Bavarian pretzel is good and pairs well with the beer. read more

The venue was very good. A lot of TV screens and the bar is long and plenty of tables. Out waiter was super. Very proficient and helpful. He was friendly and cheerful. Our food was good but there was a little too much ranch in the Caesar's salad. The potato salad was good but I'm not a fan of leaving the skin on. I would point out that their website stated that on Tuesdays you get a free beef with your food, however when we asked the said that it was not offered anymore. After leaving the airport, my just took me here to grab a snack and some beverages. Place is located what looks like a newer business area. I'm used to breweries being in some renovated old factory/business space. This place was in a really nice building apparently built just for the brewery. I was surprised how busy it was on a Thursday at 3:45. We grabbed a seat at the bar and enjoyed some beverages. I had two of their IPA's which were decent. Also tried a Kolsch which was refreshing on an extremely hot day. My buddy wanted to get a snack before leaving so we looked over the menu. He was surprised to see how little they offer now for food. He said the menu used to be so much bigger. We opted for a giant soft pretzel that came with beer cheese and mustard. It was good. I found the place to be pleasant and reasonably priced. read more

Southern Barrel has really gone downhill. The local staff are still rockstars, but the owners are dropping the ball big time. The AC has been busted for 3 summers and now doesn't work at all (in SC, seriously?), the menu is down to like 5 or 6 items, and the kitchen is falling apart with not enough working equipment to continue operating at full capacity. Renovations and upgrades have been promised for years with absolutely no follow through and now most of the staff have jumped ship because of the crappy conditions. This place used to rock. Man I hate to write these kinds of reviews, but this place has really gone downhill over the past couple of years and I know everyone works too hard for their money these days, and I would hate for someone to blow theirs on a bad night out. Especially when there are so many other options in the area. So to walk it back a few years, when I first tried SB, I think it was in either 2019 or 2020, and they were awesome. Had a great menu, great beer selection, awesome service and overall good atmosphere. It was a great pairing with the bowling alley next door. I moved away in mid 2020, and when I came back to the low country back in spring '24, I stopped in for dinner by myself one night. I noticed the menu had gotten much smaller, but the vibe inside was good so I enjoyed dinner & a couple beers by my lonesome. I didn't think much of it, because the government response to Covid crippled a lot of businesses, so maybe these guys needed to downsize a bit to stay afloat. No biggie. However, this weekend, I took my wife there before we went to the movies, and man, I was embarrassed that I had brought her to this place after telling her it was good. First of all, the entire restaurant smelled like a dirty bar mat. No hostess greeted us, despite an established hostess stand. Kat & I stood there for a few minutes until a bartender yelled to sit wherever we wanted. So we hesitatingly took a table outside on the patio, where the speakers were blown and turned up loud despite this. The last straw came when we picked the least rusty metal table outside, a good 5 minutes went by with nobody coming to greet us. Between all that and the dirty menu with only about half a dozen items on it, we used that 5 minutes to look up another place to go eat. I hate it, but we won't ever come here again unless new owners come in and turn the place around. read more

Take it for what it is. This, compared to what seems to be your average brewery place, is massive. There is a huge bar area, a generous amount of indoor seating, and a decent amount of outdoor seating as well -- all full service. The beer is great, and they do flights as well. Choose your options, write them down on a flight card, and soon you will be tasting away. The food is great as well. The pretzel as a starter was very enjoyable, and the Old MacDonald had a Farm Burger - Bacon marmalade, goat cheese, peach habanero sauce, fried onion straws was very filling, especially when ordering it with the Firkin Fries!!! Southern Barrel Brewing has ample parking, and equally ample indoor & outdoor seating. Even during a brief rainstorm, it was so nice to sit outside in the fresh air and with covered seating. Staff is super attentive, able to make informed menu & beer suggestions, and the embodiment of "southern hospitality"! Per my waitress' rec, I got the duck wontons because I didn't want anything too heavy, but still filling and flavorful. I was not led astray; they were delicious! The dipping sauce was so good and the wontons were perfectly crispy. The beers were equally fantastic and I ran the style gamut with their offerings. I did a few little taste-tests (which my waitress kindly accommodated without judgment). Everything was drinkable, and since I got high abv beers in my flight, I liked that the booziness was balanced by the flavor, hops, and malt. My handsdown fav was the Frozen Barrel Milk Stout. If you're just in this area of SC, it's a great stopping off point from I-95 north from Savannah or on the way to Hilton Head; definitely worth a stop, and highly recommend doing a flight to "try before you buy". Southern Barrel is cool man. Lots of inside and outside seating, solid beers, and friendly service. Some unique food offerings including duck bacon wontons that are deep fried. Didn't try them this time in, but next time, it's a no brainer....I'm tryin' those quackers. I swilled a few beers here and their Damn Yankee NE Style IPA (also available in cans) was my favorite. You can crush that one, all day, every day. Bonus info nugget...you can find it at the nearby Kroger as I've seen it there. SB's wifi is strong and free, just like 'merica, and they have plenty of cans and merch to go with you on your road to somewhere. If you're local, definitely ask them about their mug club if you're planning on becoming a frequent frequenter. Seems like a good value. Not sure on dog friendliness, but the folks here seemed cool, so if guessing, I'd proffer, yes, they be chill with the poochers. read more

I work in the Buckwalter Plaza and called here asking about ordering lunch to go. Ordering was quick and easy, and they asked if I work in the plaza for the employee discount! I ordered the Southwest Salad and added falafel. It was delicious -- no complaints at all! The salad without protein is $9.99, and the falafel was an extra $5. The brewery has a large outdoor patio, and plenty of seating on the inside. I was surprised to see the number of families with small kids eating lunch, however. For me, this is a huge turn off. If I wanted to go somewhere with kids, I'd go to Applebees.... I would order here for lunch to-go again, but would hesitate to come here for happy hour or dinner. read more

Oh my goodness! The beer and food were both amazing here and we would definitely come back again. I had their specialty burger of the month with goat cheese, honey pickled onions, and chimichurri...no lie, I will be dreaming and trying to replicate this burger for the rest of my life. It was so good, I just wish we lived closer so I could go back and get it again! Each beer was delicious and they had a great selection of IPAs. We also started with the duck bacon wontons, which were really good, but maybe slightly overpriced for what they were. We topped off the meal with a frozen milk and cookie cake for the kiddos to enjoy and ended up even having some ourselves. What a great brewery Bluffton has! Located in a beautiful shopping center. Only 35 mins away from Savannah. Parking was easy and there was plenty. As soon as we walked inside we saw an empty table which we were able to sit at right away. Our waitress greeted us and brought us menus. We ordered a flight of beers since it was our first time trying this brewery. It had a vast selection and we decided to stay away from the IPAs and got lagers and sours. We loved the tropical gose. Food- I ordered a Buffalo salad with cauliflower bites, super spicy but AMAZING AND YUMMY. My husband ordered a chicken sandwich that had bacon, palmetto cheese and jalapeño relish, he loved it as well but oh it was spicy! Place was not overly crowded and it was very clean. My friends and I really enjoyed our experience here after an afternoon of bowling. The businesses are very close to one another so that is ideal! When we walked up there was live music outside on the patio. They were pretty busy for a Thursday evening but we were able to snag a table. The outside tables fit three people on each side and one on each end so that was great for our party of eight. We ordered the hummus app (see pic), and the pretzel. I forgot to snag a pic of the pretzel. Both apps were delicious. The hummus appetizer came with hard-boiled eggs, cucumber, tomato, a cracker and more. We really liked the black bean hummus. My main meal was make your own taco basket. I chose two tacos and a side. My brisket and shrimp taco were excellent. The meal came with pico, chipotle lime crema, and grated cheese--all on the side-- so you can dress it yourself. The crema was a little liquid-y for my liking--and my friends who ordered tacos said the same thing. Maybe needed a tad more sour cream to thicken it. The side I chose was chips and queso. Nachos are always our go-to for food, and we love that they have a dog menu! They're very dog friendly outside, and even have bowls/water jugs for them. I want to take them home with me and never not have my life filled with Chilly Willy Band vibes. The only con - good LORD some of this food is spicy. Got th BBQ tacos and thought my face was going to fall off. The quesadilla is just as spicy. If you like heat this is the place for you.
