I was looking for a local, family-run business to set up the seasonal maintenance to my AC and heating system in my home. I had used a local company for years, but changed providers in the past 3 or so years due to a continual degrade in service quality all around - from the phone call to the business to the service itself. When I called Neal's, the owner answered the phone and was easy to understand and listened to my questions. We scheduled a maintenance service (reasonably priced) for the following week. When the service tech came out he did a very thorough job checking my entire system. As I figured, he showed me that the unit was about to 'expire' (lol)... I knew this was coming as my system was pretty old. The price points that he showed me were reasonable and all-encompassing, in that they included to total cost with no hidden charges. We scheduled the service for the following week. The crew showed up when promised - actually at the top end of their window - and got right to work. They had my old system out, new system in, thermostat installed, and checked all ducts and everything else up in the attic and were finished within a 4-hour window. I made sure to have my car out of the way and a clear path to my system as well so I think that helped with the timeframe, too. I moved to Round Rock last year. My old HVAC system was the original system (22 years old) and understandably not operating very efficiently. Knowing that it could die at any point, I decided to be proactive before the summer and get some quotes. After an astronomical quote from a different company, I thought I was in for a very long, unpleasant ride trying to find someone trustworthy and fair. I don't know much about HVAC systems, but after that first experience I did enough research to at least know if someone was blatantly trying take advantage of me. I spoke to a second company, but something about it did not sit right with them either. Then I called AC by Chris. They came to my house that same day. The representatives were forthcoming and honest. They did not try to oversell me, which I appreciated greatly. HVAC system was failing. It was 25+ years old, and another company had given me reasonable bids. A friend recommended AC by Chris. I called. Chris, as advertised, answered. Based on the fact that my home was relatively small, he gave me an-of-the-top-of-his-head bid, for an installation that was a bit complex (very tight fit). Chris came in about $1500 less than a comparable unit provided by the other company (one that I'd recommend also). And, unlike a third pitch made by Strand Bros, total con artists, who were pitching units between $10,000 to $20,000, Chris was straight forward. No b.s. maintenance packages. No used-car tactics, like Strand Bros, trying to sell me on monthly price instead of total cost. His technicians came out to determine whether they could get the old unit out of a low-pitched attic, and a new unit in. They took pictures, measured, and got back with Chris and the head installer. We scheduled for Saturday. Install team showed up in a couple of waves (one to start dismantling and another to start the install once the old stuff was out of the way). They were in and out in less than 5 hours, with an entirely new, very quiet, high-efficient system. So far, so good. The house is cool. In December I made an offer on a home and had the home inspected. The inspector said the AC needed major work and suggested I contact an HVAC company to inspect the unit prior to purchasing the home. After looking at reviews for companies located in Round Rock, I contacted Chris Neal and he sent Brian out the next day to inspect the unit (I might add they did not charge me for this visit). The unit was completely dead. Brian was very diplomatic and professional in dealing with both myself and the seller of the home (who definitely did not want to hear his AC unit was in need of replacement just weeks before our scheduled closing). Understandably, the seller wanted to get two additional quotes for the complete replacement of the AC unit and at the end of the day, he told me the quote from Neal Heating & AC was much less than the other quotes he received. The seller made a concession in the price of the home and after closing, I contacted Chris to set up installation of a new Carrier unit. His installers showed up on time, told me how long it would take, installed the new AC and Nest thermostat and gave me a tutorial on how to use the new thermostat, programmed it for me and helped me download software on my iPhone. I had several issues arise after a technician hired by my home warranty co installed improperly-sized equipment in my unit. Called Chris at Neal's after dealing with 4 different incompetent techs after the improper install - not one of the reported any issues with the improperly-sized coil. Chris' team member Arturo found the issue quickly and after discussion amongst Chris and Arturo, it was determined that my system needed to be replaced due to the improper install wreaking havoc on the rest of the system. When I looked up symptoms of an improperly-sized coil, all the symptoms showed what I was dealing with for over a month. I quickly scheduled the install after Chris gave me a very reasonable price quote. The guys were on-time, polite and professional, and very conscientious about my home and clean-up after, and the final cost was just as Chris quoted - no hidden fees tacked on last minute. And best of all, my new system is running great, my house feels like a much-loved igloo, and all rooms are running the same temp - no more uneven temps and scorching 2nd floor, even my office which always ran hotter even before the improper coil install is at the same desired temp as rest of house. Chris and crew came out per request this morning. I can't say enough about this guy. I had another Georgetown based company come out prior to calling Chris to fix my AC that was blowing warm. What a disaster! I won't name names. They had no idea what they were doing. When I would ask the tech what the problem was he didn't seem to know what it was and seemed to be just making stuff up. They replaced a run cap with wrong amperage replacement and grossly overcharged my system with lubricant for the compressor. Their so called repairs could and would have seriously damaged my system over time. Their recommended repair solution was to replace a reversing valve and solenoid. AC By Chris found those parts to be totally fine and in working order. Chris quickly started to unravel and fix all the rats nests of mistakes the other Co. had made. He was appalled at how bad the mistakes were that had to be corrected. Don't hesitate to call Chris for all of your HVAC needs. Sure was refreshing to finally deal with an honest and direct professional. Chris had it fixed in 30 minutes. He really knows his stuff! Be sure to remember that he runs a smaller company for now. One of our A/C unit went out in December 2015. Fortunately we didn't need it and had the time to research and gather estimates. AC by Chris was not only the one we felt most comfortable with after talking through it but also was the least cost quote. Chris was honest and upfront from the beginning and never tried to pressure me into a more expensive unit. We called Chris in January with our decision and decided that we should consider replacing our other unit as well as it was only a matter of time, so we talked though it with Chris and he was able to fit it in that same week and at a great price His team showed up on time and got right to work. Within 4 hours both of our units had been replaced and Chris' team had cleaned up after themselves. Chris even called to make sure we were satisfied before his guys left. We had a minor issue with a thermostat the following week and I emailed Chris. He called me back within minutes and had a tech onsite within the hour. As a chronic DIY enthusiast this entire ordeal bothered me to the core. With the idea of not paying retail anything at the top of my mind, I was ready to go buy gauges and a vacuum pump but after some light reading decided that wasn't a good idea. My home warranty company literally wanted to mold the dust of my broken compressor into a new part. That must be some machine they have. Being a rational human being and looking at the weather forecast, I decided to overcome my primitive notion of being a pioneer in the wild west and I got some quotes. Chris ended up texting with me which was super convenient. He also tolerated my being a huge pain in the rear asking more questions than I should have. Pound for pound he beat a "friend price" from a referral on the exact same model by 800 bucks. His service was excellent, sending a large crew out who masterfully installed the new unit. They even overcame my aversion to the carrier brand, and I later learned that Willis Carrier actually invented the AC. Few service calls make me want to run right to a computer and post good comments. I've had three such experiences with AC by Chris. At the worst of last summer, I severed the power to my external AC unit through some aggressive lawn care, and a page of satisfied customer reviews led me to Chris. Let's be realistic - on hot days, these guys are swamped with calls. But when Chris took me right outside over the phone and walked me through a cover removal and reconnection of my unit without charging me, he made an instant customer. The unit failed for real later in the summer (this time not my doing), and Chris made a same-day visit to diagnose the problem, zoom off for a part, and return to install it all in a 2-hour period. So when my heating system ignition began to fail this morning, service was a no-brainer. Finally! An AC Company I can trust. I called on a Sunday and left a message. He returned my call the very next morning and we scheduled an appointment for that same day. After looking at our system, he gave us 4 different options with prices so we could determine which would best serve our needs. Absolutely no pressure and so sale tactics! We decided to replace our entire system. His prices are extremely reasonable! We scheduled the install for 2 days later. He arrived on time with a great crew and was finished by lunch. He took the time to show and explain to me what was wrong with our previous system and how the last company we hired, AC Express, totally messed up our system. He answered all my questions and even set up my new programmable thermostat. The workmanship is incredible and I can't get over how well our new system is working. I feel like we bought a new house! Anytime I have ever had a/c problems I get sick feeling knowing I'm going to deal with outrageous prices, poor service, and headaches from being taken advantage of because of the emergency situation it can be in Austin summer to be without a/c, BUT that couldn't have been farther from the truth with AC by Chris. A service technician, Jarod I believe, was at my home within about 10 minutes of my call. He looked at everything and listened to me and what I had been hearing and experiencing. Within minutes he had a diagnoses and within another 5 minutes had tested and confirmed without a doubt that diagnoses. He let me know the pros and cons and gave me great tips on how to make my unit last longer. It was a Friday afternoon and from the time I noticed our house was hot to when we were lounging comfortably again was barely over an hour. The original AC for our home here in Central Texas was undersized from the very start (2006) . Any summer where the temperatures meant we would see 100 degrees was going to make it hot in our home and hard to sleep at night. We bought a window AC but those are not very economical when operating full time. Recently , even with the additional AC both units were running almost all the time. Chris had serviced our Central Air several times and finally we agreed it was time for a new AC. They changed our unit out in 4 hours and installed the correct size Central Air unit. The new AC price from Chris was very competitive. We are going through another bout of 100 Degrees+ this summer, our window unit has been removed and the larger AC unit from Chris runs very little. We found AC by Chris from positive reviews 2 years ago when our AC unit went cablooey in the peak of the summer. AC had to be replaced and Chris was the best quote, fast and efficient, and the nicest of the bunch. Here we are, 2 years later and while on vacation, our AC unit had a slow water leak that buckled our wood floors in our absence. One call to AC by Chris this morning and he made time to stop by an hour later to check it out!!! An honest straight shooter, he told us summer is tough on AC units and we need to up our game on changing filters - as a dirty filter had caused the issue. Chris blew out the drain line and gave us a maintenance lesson on our unit - replace the filter every 10-14 days in the summer due to our shedding herd of pets and bleach the drain line 2x per summer to keep this AC purring like a kitten for the next 10-15 years! One of our A/C units went out in March 2016 and fortunately we really didn't need it at the time so it gave us some time to get a couple of quotes. We got a quote from the original company who installed them but decided to get another quote. We started researching and came across Chris and found nothing but great reviews. I called Chris to tell him what the problem was so I texted a picture of quote I received and he came back at half the price,no kidding! We scheduled the repair two months later and was given a window between 1-3 pm and the tech showed up one hour early with all the parts and ready to go to work. After about an hour, the repairs were completed and could feel the house cooling down right away. We've had a great experience and highly recommend working with AC by Chris. We initially called them to look at our unit in the spring. They were extremely honest that they suspected our 17 year old unit would not last much longer and suggested saving for a new unit. They spent a good hour going over the unit and explained all of the issues. They did not charge us for the evaluation. 4 months later in the middle of the summer heat, sure enough our unit gave out on a Friday night. Chris had his crew out to see the unit that same evening. They said they could replace the compressor and that would get us cold air for the time being, however we decided to just replace the entire unit since our system was so old. When I needed help with my ac I'm glad I listened to a friend that recommended AC by Chris. I had my problem quoted at 1000 USD by another HVAC company. They squeezed me in and made the repair for a fraction of the cost. Jason, the technician couldn't have been nicer to work with. He actually made me feel guilty for working on my computer while he worked his butt off up and down stairs, in and out of the attic and outside. Downstairs AC unit went out this summer. After speaking with a company we had used before for HVAC service (to remain nameless), they sent a tech by and told me the unit was "short to ground" and could only be fixed with a $6,000 new unit. I tested the unit myself and could not get a similar reading on my volt-meter. Called tech back to tell him my results and he said my meter wasn't the right kind. Complete BS! I called Chris, explained my situation, and he was able to install a new unit for just over 1/2 the price of the $6,000 quote. And the unit wasn't short to ground - the crank in the compressor was broken. His crew was out the next day and had us installed and up and running by afternoon. When our A/C system completely broke down, we contacted Chris and he came out and installed a completely new A/C system for us in March 2016. The new system was quiet and cool and we've been so thankful for it. Last week, we noticed that the equipment outside was making a whirling noise, that we'd not heard before. Since the system wasn't even a year old yet, Chris had us video it with sound and send it to him, so he could diagnose the problem. Within 24 hours, he called and asked to come out and take a look at it. He came out and said that he could tell just by the sound of it that it needed a new condenser unit. He came out the next business day and repaired it while we were at work. It was covered under warranty, so it didn't cost us a penny. Chris is a great guy and very responsive. My tenant called to inform me that the AC was not blowing cold air in the house. I called couple of well known HVAC companies in Round Rock for diagnose/ estimates. After the technicians checked the AC unit they told me, that I need to replace the compressor or the entire HVAC unit. I have decided to call one more company and, that was AC by Chris. Talking to Chris, he took his time to explain to me about the benefits of replacing the entire AC unit, or just some part. I found that very honest and educating. Chris sent out his technician to check my AC unit and, unlike the other two HVAC company, the only thing that my AC unit needed at this point, was some maintenance.
