We woke up with a projected high of 112° and an air conditioner blowing hot air. The fan was working but the unit outside wasn't doing anything. After our normal AC repair guys out of Georgetown were booked (as well as 2 others we called) Austex THANK GOD had an opening for this afternoon. Their tech was able to come an hour earlier than they originally thought and was completely done replacing our capacitor, taping a leak up in the attic, and washing the AC unit in less than 45 minutes. My AC breaker was tripped only without other issues. When the technician came and turned the breaker on, the AC started working. But he still unplugged the AC power and checked the capacitor which is also good. He put the panel back and told me the compressor is bad and the rotor is locked, so he suggested to change the whole system with an estimation of over $9400. Then he put the AC power key back upside down which is off. After he left, we found the power key was not placed correctly and put the disconnect key back to on, the AC started to work normaly... The temperature of the day was 110 degree. read more

Incredible service! Woke early Wed morning, 6 am, soaking wet and thought I might be sick. However the house temp was up to 77° and 70% humidity. A/C was not working. Tried a local place that had a message board. No response by 9 am so called and left a message. Was concerned that it was hot August and I might not get a response for 24 hrs. Tried a second company, left a message, no response. By 10:30 am decided to call AUSTEX in Cedar Park. They had to pick some supplies in Georgetown and would stop by on the way about 1 pm. Actually arrived at 2. The house is now up to 83°. In 15 minutes diagnosed the problem on the outside unit, a blown capacitor. Had a replacement on the truck and in another 15 minutes the unit was up and running! Since the system had not been serviced in 6 years completed a general service. Dave was responsive and I got incredible service. AUSTEX is now in my rolodex or whatever they call saved numbers on the phone. read more

A few weeks ago I decided it was time to replace my 15 year old AC system. I called Dave, who I've been using for 2 years now and they didn't disappoint. For the past ten years Austex has been the only company we've used to service our two A/C units. We've never had a reason to change companies. They come out every other year - which is about the frequency that something stops working. So over the years we've had the owner, Dave Smith, come out several times, then his son, and on the latest call (5/20) it was Chase. On every service call they were professional, diagnosed the issue quickly and accurately, and explained the problem and repair without any sales pitch. While our systems use R22 that is being phased out, they've never pressured us to replace the units or do repairs that weren't required to keep them running. We plan to have Austex maintain these A/C units until it really is time to replace them. And then we'll call Austex for that work, too. read more

I came home from a long day in San Antonio hoping to get a good night's rest and recover from the hard day. Instead, my house was 90 degrees and rising. No sleep for me! I called Austex and spoke with Dave first thing in the morning, and he was able to come out that afternoon and get everything squared away. He treated me with respect, was very friendly, and let me hang out and watch what he was doing. Even taking the time to point out what was wrong and show me the bad parts. The cost was what they estimated over the phone, and he didn't try to upsell me or push unnecessary repairs. Less than a week later, my AC went out again with the exact same symptoms. Dave came back out and replaced the capacitor free of charge. We talked about what might be the underlying cause and he gave me a game plan just in case there was a larger issue. Sure enough, the AC continued to malfunction. Dave came back 45 mins later, replaced the fan motor for right under what he estimated, and got everything working again. Once again, no attempt to sell me on an unnecessary repair, but when it became necessary, the cost was reasonable and not unexpected. Service was prompt, friendly, and courteous. My A/C was not keeping up, I knew I needed Freon because this had been happening for about a month or more. I called on a Friday, was given the possibility that the condenser coil could have been dirty, so I washed it out (it was clean) and the system was still hot. AusTex was booked until Tuesday and I figured I'd just suffer over the weekend. I called again on Monday (after actually washing condenser coil without success on Friday) and asked for their first available appointment, thinking it would be Wednesday. To my surprise, I got a call back in about 20 minutes and the Technician was on his way to my house where he met me, added Freon and got me back on track in under 30 minutes. House is cooling normally again, so my hat's off to AusTex for coming through. Another reason I picked them - they actually talk to you like you're human on the phone and were willing to talk preliminary pricing about the Freon.
