Stopped in this place on my way home from work the other day. Wanted a stiff drink to end the day and this looked like a quiet happy little place. Didn't eat food but just wanted to experience the service, people, and the ambiance. Funny it's called a Tiki bar but didn't see much tiki stuff. Anyway, all good. Overall came in, sat at the bar, they gave me a menu quickly and water, so far so good. There is little to no one here at this time, 430PM Thursday afternoon. Takes a little while get an order in, they did have to check my ID. Come on really, I'm like 50. common sense, but I don't know maybe you been fooled before, ughh. Once I order something, decide on a draft. Well they only have two. Come on its a bar, have a little variety. I wind up ordering a Zombie because I saw it ordered by the lady at the other end. I asked the bartender who actually turned out to be pretty cool and explained that she uses 5 kinds of rum in this drink. Damn it hit the spot and was super good. I have pictures attached here. After that service picked up, they kind of have to warm up to you here I think. Once they did, conversation flowed freely and they were good. I haven't tried the food but will soon and can then assess based on that. Service: Good not great, could be more attentive and quick to react to people coming in to sit at the establishment. Like "there is no one here", more sense of urgency. Turned out ok by the end. Product/Drink: Ok these were some of the best drinks I've had and were strong. They looked at me twice when I ordered a second one, lol. Only downside, no draft beer, only two choices. Nocked it here half star. Price: Price is high, maybe too high. This is why it might not be so busy. Your only going to get certain folks for that price range when your that high. But ok if that's the strategy. Half star knocked here. Food: Well unfortunately they don't really have any. Only small bar bites not a real restaurant. I can't bring my girl here, because the menu is way too limited for vegan type. Nocked a star here. Overall the place was cool, loved ambiance, cleanliness of the bar was immaculate. All attention to detail is made here including the making of the drinks. These folks are mixologists for sure and the price reflects that. Just lack of food and drink selection knocks down a bit. read more

We went in with a group of 12 on a busy night so we got seated after 1.5 hours which is understandable. However, the way the hostess treated us was one of the worst customer service I've ever had that I feel obligated to leave a review. We ordered one round of drinks and paid our bill as we weren't impressed by the seasonal drinks. Most of us quickly finished what we had ordered so we could try another bar. However, 4 of us weren't done with our drinks so we stayed behind to finish them. The rest of us were quickly trying to finish our drinks since most of our friends already left, but after less than 5 minutes, the hostess tells us that we need to leave. I try explain to her that we're just finishing our drinks and that we'll leave soon, but she kept insisting that we leave. She then seats another party at our long stand table. We were okay with that but we didn't understand why she had to pressure us to leave. I understand it's a busy night and you want to clear the tables for more guests. Every time I come here I'm able to get a seat right away and they have a fabulous cocktails too! This place is a total vibe and a great place to hang out with friends and get a few drinks in the evening or on the weekend. The drink menu is large and so many sounded interesting. We ended up trying the mint sour (light and refreshing) and hinky dinks fizzy (refreshing drink that packs a little bit more of a punch). This is a fun spot! Inside there is a lot of seating with high top tables and squishy chairs. It wasn't very crowded when we went, and there's a big disco ball. Drinks are on the pricier side (each cocktail around $15) and they have a 20% service fee before tip, but that's Seattle! Their most 3 popular drinks are the Mai Tai, Maghrebi Mint Sour, and Classic Daiquiri. The Mai Tai was ok but I wished it was sweeter, it's not your typical Mai Tai. I thought the Maghrebi Mint Sour and Space Crush were better (and so did 2 of my friends)! From someone who doesn't know a lot about cocktails, the Mint Sour tastes like a better and larger mojito, tasting fresher and more flavorful. Cons: The cocktails were on the pricy side and didn't taste especially outstanding. One tasted weird, but to be fair the menu described it as being weird! The big con was the wait. They had just won some foodie award and so they were busier than normal. But our friends ordered the tasting menu (four dishes, but fairly small), and by the time we left two hours later, the dessert still hadn't come out. Their drink menu is broken into 5 different sections, Travel, Tropical, Tiki, Daiquiri and Tiki Bowls as well as an offering of select beers and wines. I have tried several of their cocktails and they are strong and delicious. They serve up a solid Mai Tai, I am a fan of their Kokum + Cashew Sizzle (featuring dark fruit and toasted cashew with rum, citrus, and spices) and their tiki bowls are to die for, The Pinata Punch is a dangerous concoction with aged rum, island spice, and tropical fruit. I am a fan of their food menu personally, but I could see how less adventurous eaters might not be a huge fan. They serve a pretty solid Duck Liver Pate, I am a huge fan of their Albacore, which is served on a super crispy Nori Chip, with pickled jalapeno and a sour pineapple gel and am an even bigger fan of their Lamb Heart Tartare which has a super delicious yolk jam, vinegar, cilantro, ikura and Taro chips. I was disappointed with their oysters, they aren't properly shucked which makes eating them a little frustrating. But I can't wait to try more of their menu. Service is pretty lack luster here, the bartenders don't really engage with the clientele which is a little weird to me. I am more likely to visit somewhere where the staff makes me feel welcome, and you don't really get that here. Their HH menu is super limited, I wish they would expand on it a bit more. I went here yesterday evening with some friends of mine. They picked the place because it was close to an event we were going to afterward. The server we had was pretty inattentive, but the worst part was he brought out everyone else's food but mine, and then my food never came. We had to ask him three times where my order was, and one time after we asked I noticed him in the corner talking to some friends and basically hanging out rather than seeing where my order was. When my friends finished eating all the food and were waiting for the bill we had to ask once again, where my order was, while I sat there staring at an empty plate he'd brought out. He then stayed he was going to comp what I ordered, which great I guess but not what I wanted, what I wanted in fact was to have the thing I ordered to come out during the time my friends got their food. Also the item wasn't that expensive--really he should have comped the drinks too, or the entire ticket, since my friends were very upset on my behalf. Finally, when I asked for him to put it in a to-go box, since by the time we were all done, he proceeded to give me a passive-aggressive guilt trip when I simply explained we had an event to go to, saying that he didn't realize we were in a hurry. why should this matter? Everyone else had eaten their food, we were ready to go, we'd been there over an hour by that point. I've worked in restaurants in high tourist areas before and this type of behavior would have been enough to get someone fired. I don't know if it was racism, because I am visible minority, but at the very least it was poor customer service. If it wasn't for how upset my friends were, I would have just forgotten it, but they were upset over this server's behavior the rest of the evening, even after we went somewhere to try to forget about this experience. I really like this place. I came here with my boyfriend during the month of October, which meant that it wasn't serving its normal menu but instead a Halloween pop-up! We took a seat at the bar and made friends with the bartender who was both friendly and amazingly overworked given the fact that once 7PM hit, the place was just overfilling with (slightly drunk) folks trying to kick their Thursday night into high gear. So, tip - if you are into a more peaceful time in a tiki bar, try to come before 7. Settled at the bar, we ordered a 2 person drink to share. It was a fernet branca cocktail that came in a frozen pumpkin with lots of tiki-inspired accoutrements. It was sweet, refreshing, and obviously delicious, but I imagine for those that are not so into the sweet drinks, you'd probably want to pass on this. We then dug into our own 'four-course' menu. We started with two pork belly sliders - one for each of us! - and we sank our teeth into some beautifully fatty and deeply flavored meat. There was some great acidic sauce added in as well, which definitely made me want more! We moved on to a chicken rice dish with tenderly cooked chicken thigh meat, flavorful rice, and some pickled kiwis on the side. Definitely a unique aspect of the dish. We then ended the savory portion of our meal with the beef tartare, which came with taro chips. The tartare had an egg yolk with it and had a great texture. Finally, we ended the meal with a red velvet cake made of beets with an ice cream. Now, this is where the praise for the food unfortunately ends. The cake had good flavor, but to my palate was quite dry. The ice cream was nice to have with the cake, but it was quite icy and thereby subpar. Considering that this is a tiki bar, it's understandable that the desserts are not out of this world. But if you are to exercise any caution in ordering at this restaurant, I'd say stay away from desserts and focus all of your calories on the food and the drinks. We were well into a tiki weekend by the time we made it to Navy Strength, so I may have been more critical than I would normally be. Personally, I like my tiki bars more on the gloriously tacky side, so Navy Strength's severe, modern decor and Belltown prices didn't really do it for me. The bar is really pretty, don't get me wrong! A big sweep of wood planking and blue-green tile, with some strategically placed tchotchkes and tiki-themed books, gives it an updated midcentury vibe. Sometimes this aesthetic gets in the way of comfort -- the tables were tiny and the chairs weren't very comfortable. The paper menus, which will change themes twice a year, are nicely illustrated and pretty enough to frame. We got there for happy hour (4-7 pm), but there isn't much to it: $8 daily punch and classic daiquiris and $5 duck sliders. I got the happy hour punch, which was citrusy and tasty, but literally served in one of those little punch cups you see hanging off punch bowls in thrift stores, i.e., it's tiny. The duck slider is a better value -- you get one small Hawaiian roll, but it's stuffed full of flavorful and tender duck meat, along with a small scoop of green papaya salad. The regular (kinda small) drink menu is $12-19, but a $12 cocktail may have been a better value than an $8 punch. My dining companion had the classic daiquiri and then the Three Dots and a Dash, and said it was well-made and nicely presented. His second drink came in a Navy Strength branded glass, though I don't think they're available for purchase. I didn't see many tiki mugs actually being served... most drinks were coming out in regular glasses, which is always a little disappointing. Our server was friendly, though, and seemed knowledgeable about the menu. Overall, it's a modern and sophisticated take on the tiki bar. We were here strictly for drinks, my first being the Jal Jeera which was refreshing - definitely mojito-like in flavor, then I ordered probably my favorite drink of the night which was the kokum-cashew swizzle which was not too sweet and had the right amount of rum. One of my friends ordered planter's punch and said all she could taste was juice. My husband ordered the fog cutter said it was okay. Little did we know when we showed up that this joint had only been open a couple of weeks. It's got a nautical theme with all the traditional tiki drinks and then some.
