I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Nationwide Vision. I went in expecting a simple eye exam using my Aetna vision plan, only to be told they "don't support it"--even though my plan is not out of network. The staff offered no real explanation, no effort to verify benefits properly, and no alternative solutions. It felt like they were either poorly trained or simply unwilling to help. The lack of transparency, professionalism, and customer care was unbelievable. I left without receiving service and with the impression that customer insurance concerns are dismissed as an inconvenience rather than handled with the attention they deserve. I will not be returning, and I recommend that anyone with Aetna or who expects basic competence with insurance look elsewhere. This experience was a complete waste of time. read more

We made sure to arrive to the office in a timely manner and unfortunately our time was wasted. the front girls desk were mostly gossiping and not attending the customers. They were not willing to provide a discount for wasting our time and referring us to another doctor as their doctor could not get the job done. All in all this was a terrible experience. My visit was on March 26, 2025. I received my contact lenses but was incorrectly billed. The customer service representative for Nationwide advised me that the location had done an exchange transaction instead of a charge and that was the reason they returned the money to my insurance. Fast forward to October I received a bill from march stating I still have an outstanding balance, countless call and time wasted I just paid out of pocket for Nationwide's mistake. I have never had this bad of service by a vision place in over 20 years! They have a sign in the front that says basically no service for rude behavior. The staff is the issue if customers are yelling at them. Who needs to be upset at a vision place! Poor customer service, front office makes us wait 2 hrs and they input the incorrect insurance information, they lied to us, stated my kids do not have insurance but they are insured with FEDVIP. This happened on January 2025, they still charging me for my daughter glasses and have the wrong insurance information. We are still waiting for the glasses, I call today and they advised will be ready in 45 businesses days. I over paid for glasses and when I went to let them know about the overpayment, they there in the rush and did not refund me the full amount of what they supposed to return to me. Scammers. They assured us a free pair of glasses w purchase of contacts. Instructed us first time contact users need to go through a "trial" period to make sure contacts are right for the patient. They also stated that what we paid toward a pair of glasses will be rolled into the cost of a year supply of contacts. The contact lens trial period ended and my kid passed w flying colors but Nationwide went back on their word. The sales hustler told us we only get the free pair of glasses if contacts were purchased same day of glasses! So, they instruct us to do the trial period for contacts for first time users to see if they're a good fit since "not all people pass," have us purchase glasses w the assurance that what is paid toward glasses will be used toward a year supply of glasses, then come back and tell us it's another $600 on top of the $300 we already paid for glasses because we didn't purchase the contacts the day we first came in. Bring a recording device if you ever come to this place so you can document their shit sales tactics! read more

I recommend that you find a better office through your insurance. I came here for over a year and was disappointed each and every visit. During the first visit I was told that I was required to have my pupils dilated per their new-patient protocol. This left me with impaired vision for several hours, so I was essentially forced to take a day off since I could neither drive nor run errands until my vision went back to normal. That day I ordered some glasses and specifically asked for an anti-scratch coating on the lenses, yet the glasses I got had a cheap lens that was full of scratches within weeks despite my careful handling. The second time, I was seen by an optometrist filling in for their usual staff. She rushed through the exam and didn't answer most of my questions, but instead referred me to the receptionists that didn't provide answers either. I got a trial pair of contacts that I liked but when I placed and payed for a 6-month supply order, I received different contacts! When I asked the staff why they were different, they brushed me off and said "these are the ones you got in trial". They're not, as you can see from the picture. read more

Nationwide is the only provider on my vision insurance and I need a new contact and eye glasses prescription. That is the only reason I went here after the last 2 or 3 times being written the wrong prescription. I asked for my eyeglass prescription after waiting 15 minutes for the front office staff to finish chit chatting amongst themselves so I could leave. All they gave me was my receipt which unfortunately I didn't notice until after I left. I was in a rush to get back to work as I had already been there almost 2 hours because of their "new computer system." I showed up 15 minutes early to fill out my paperwork but they showed not respect for my time or apparently my request for my script. I have to go back for my trial contacts in a week to so. Had a very thorough eye exam on Tuesday October 19. Very pleased with the overall experience at Nationwide. Amy at the desk was so pleasant in checking me in & processing my forms & insurance. Very professional dressed. Shyla was outstanding processing my frame & lense order. In fact she is the one who selected the frame that looked best on me. These people are total scamsters. Last year we paid for thin lenses that they charged us $100 extra for and then gave us thicker ones acting like they didn't remember what we ordered. I made the mistake of going back because I like the doctor there. But you should not buy glasses here. This year they charged my insurance over $550 for a crummy, overpriced frame and lenses and said my co-pay was still $125 extra. Sure! The same glasses at Costco added up to $195 without insurance! It took almost a month to get the glasses back and they switched the frames on me to larger ones I didn't order. Being too exhausted to keep fighting with them, I just gave up. However, we will never, ever return. During the time we waited for one pair of crappy, wrong glasses we got 3 pairs done at Costco. They also gaslighted me by saying the longer wait was due to their "better quality lenses." Right! read more

He greets you with a smile when you walk through the door and goes out of his way to assist you; answering any questions or concerns you may have. Unfortunately, I only gave 4 stars as there is an employee that sits at the front desk (perhaps the receptionist), who is not very friendly and does not greet you. HORRIBLE experience with these "people." Started out fine when asst. manager Greg took my lens information and help me choose frames. Nice enough. I let them know about my need for an accelerated time frame to receive the frames due to a trip. Was not informed about the possibility of a rush order. Was treated very rudely by front desk staff when I called to inquire about my glasses a week later. Was told that there was nothing they could do at all and I was going to need to go on my trip without my glasses. I left for my trip and, on the 11th day without new glasses called and was informed that the glasses had just arrived. This was on Wednesday. Greg agreed to ship the glasses, BUT I wouldn't receive them until early the NEXT WEEK. That's close to 3 weeks since the date of purchase. I finally had to ask my husband to pick up the glasses and ship them to me, OUT OF POCKET, in order to receive them in time to be able to see for only half my trip, which was an educational journey requiring intensive learning and long vision (which I DO NOT have). When my husband arrived to pick up the glasses he was treated disrespectfully: He was not greeted and left alone at the desk for 5 minutes, finally having to get there attention as they stood right next to him. Then, Greg did not answer any of his questions, rather, he smiled at him and told him to "be patient, you need to wait" when he asked a respectful question. DID NOT receive ANY answers. My husband finally informed the staff that we would not be patronizing their services again. Thank GOD I even received the glasses at all. I haven't even been able to put them on yet, let's hope they are the correct prescription. What an AWFUL experience and I am not even in town to deal with it. THANKS FOR NOTHING!!!!!!!! Their new office staff is not that great, some of their conversation is inappropriate for the work place. Due to insurance changes, I had to switch eye doctors. I was unsure as to where to go but finally made a decision. I had my first appointment for my eye exam this afternoon at Nationwide Vision on Ray Road. I am totally impressed with everyone there! The front desk gal was very pleasant and the optical tech who performed the preliminary tests was also very nice as well as efficient. Dr. Viglotti was extremely thorough and explained everything he did during the exam so I completely understood my situation. At the time of check out, Stan took very good care of finalizing my visit. He answered my questions and did not make me feel rushed. They have an extensive selection of eyeglass frames to choose from when I go back to get my script filled and had several specials posted. I am very happy I chose to have my exam done at that location. It was a great experience, and I highly recommend them if you are needing an exam, New glasses, or contact lenses. read more

Nationwide won my business at the Ray Road store because of the woman at the front desk who answered the telephone. She was courteous and knowledgeable and she had me scheduled for an exam at a time when I didn't have to take off from work. I had been having some unusual vision changes and thought it was just a need for a new Rx. I had called three other places (Costco on Elliott--the woman on the phone was curt and impatient; Eye Priority--much too expensive for uninsured exam and one other place that was so unimpressive I cannot remember the name). First of all, they do a "medical" eye exam. The eye tech took my blood pressure and my medical history. Then she conducted a series of three screening tests. One test I failed and it turned out to be significant. Second, the staff at the front desk and in the optics shop are all friendly and helpful. There is no pressure to purchase frames or contacts. They just care about you and it shows. Last, and most important, I received a thorough eye exam from Dr. Phillip Schub, who was filling in for Dr. Viglotti who was on vacation. I shared with him my symptoms and after the exam he suggested I see an ophthalmologist who specializes in retinal diseases. He was very gracious and kind and he didn't alarm me but I could tell he thought it was important. I was able to get a quick appointment at Arizona Retina Consultants and I was diagnosed with "macular ripple". Not a vision-threatening disorder but something that needs to be watched. I was relieved that it wasn't anything worse. I am so very grateful to Dr. Schub who identified an abnormality and in a very kind and compassionate manner made sure I knew to follow up. Stan is the man...and he would get 5 stars alone. However I do agree with others that SOME of the other staff could take some lessons (from Stan) on customer service. Meanwhile, their twiddling their thumbs waiting for you to ask how can you help me... SMH... I purchased some coach prescription glasses there and I was supposed to get a 15 percent discount which I never knew until reading my insurance card after I picked up another prescription. .. So I order contacts and they charged me full price so I tell them aren't you supposed to give me 15 percent discount ...Then he credits me 20 bucks. My coach classes were 400 with the extras.. Never got my discount on them.. Came in for an exam for contacts and glasses. Glasses are uncomfortable for me and I normally wear contacts daily. I told the doctor that I wanted my astigmatism checked because after a while my contacts feel like they fit oddly. He recommended a different contact lense that I haven't used before instead of my normal Air Optix. He said to hold off on the contact prescription to ensure that the trials were comfortable for me. I came back a week later and informed the doctor that I did not want to use the new ones and that I wanted my normal air optix. After putting in air optix my left eye had something in it and it made it uncomfortable. I took it out and put it back in without using solution, which I never do and that was why I had discomfort. The doctor refused to write the prescription for my usual contacts and had already used my insurance for the contact exam and fitting. He said to get a second opinion but insurance only covers 1 exam a year so not only did he get my money, plus my insurance payment, but now I don't have contacts and can't get them until next year. Went back and the doctor gave me a new pair of contacts to try that I could wear for a month and be comfortable. They're great! He also gave me a second trial pair of the last brand I was using. He then recommended an allergy drop and an ointment that can assist with dry eye. He gave me both prescriptions for the contacts and the drops. Definitely made up for the last visit and I appreciated his effort and consideration. read more

I had a completely different experience than the last couple of reviewers. I found everyone I dealt with there to be friendly and accomodating. The exam was pretty much right on time. The optometrist was thorough and actually gave a damn. He spent extra time and went out of his way to make sure my computer glasses were the right prescription for my needs. The staff was friendly right from the start. Erin and Karen were polite and helpful. The optician who took care of me, Jason, was professional and especially accomodating. He never rushed me even though I was indecisive in picking out frames. I ordered the glasses on August 2nd and they came in on August 7th, so that was a day or so earlier than I expected. I went in to pick them up yesterday morning. Jason gave me all the time I needed in adjusting them for me and changed the nose pads to nicer ones (no extra charge). The glasses are the correct prescription for me and I'm happy with how well I'm seeing with them. Overall a very good experience that I would recommend. read more

Let me preface this review by saying that I typically do not like to leave negative reviews. After running out of contact lens, I called this location initially trying to get an appointment on a date that had no openings. I called back the following week on veteran's day (schools were closed so they were probably busier than normal) around opening to book an afternoon appointment. No issues. The person booking the interview seemed friendly and got me in, so I was happy. I showed up 5 minutes prior to my appointment to fill out paperwork, did so, turned it in and waited. An hour lapsed and then the vision tech came out to notify me that I had missed several sections of the documentation that needed to be completed. I had neglected to complete these sections because they were on preceding pages that followed a section highlighted to read, "Skip" due to it being an area where the office staff writes info. This was my bad. I should have checked beyond the first page. Unfortunately the (3) staff at the front desk neglected to check as well. They seemed to be busy talking about their lunch breaks and when to take them. When I quickly filled the necessary information out upon getting the notification from the tech, I asked the front desk staff to please check it to ensure that I completed all necessary components so that I would not have to wait another hour before being notified again. They did, said all was well, and I sat back down. Then they moved my folder to the BACK of the queue of patients where I proceeded to wait another 2 hours before being seen. My wife asked why it was taking so long and they told her that the other patients had earlier appointments then I did. This is interesting because those same patients showed up over a half hour later than I did. The staff gave her what would be known as a 'back-handed' apology. "We've said we're sorry 4 times, what do you want?! HE didn't do the paperwork right". And this group never checked it. Great customer service... When I finally got to see the tech, she was polite, apologized for the delay, and tried to lighten the situation up. She was fine. I saw the eye doctor, then the person who sells the glasses/lens, same thing. After reading previous reviews of this location and other nationwide vision centers, I realized that the consistent complaints were towards the front desk staff. It might be their training (or lack thereof) or how they are treated by superiors (which I did not witness), but either way they more than 'paid it forward' to me. My 1:30pm appointment had me out the door after 5pm. The only reason that I even went in to this location in the first place was to update my script because the company that I normally order from said that the one on record was too old. I would have rated this place 1 star, but given the service provided by the tech, eye doctor, and lens sales person, I bumped it up to two. BTW, when my order was ready for pickup a week later, I was not contacted. I called to receive that confirmation. That same front desk staff were there, again friendly enough, and got my order without delay. I will not return to any NationWide vision in the future and my next script update will have to happen at one of the many alternatives. read more

I was able to get an appointment within a few days of calling (Costco and lens crafters had a 3 to 4 week wait for an appointment.) Staff and doctor were friendly and knowledgeable. There were a lot of forms to complete initially and I would have preferred to have done that online but it's not even worth knocking a star off for. Give them a chance! read more

I've been here before to get glasses for my kids, different people every time. I won't be coming back here. This location is convenient for me but I will drive across town to a different location for better service. My kids have been wearing glasses for many years and they know what's comfortable for them. They took way too much time trying to set it to their comfort level and I felt like the staff was getting annoyed with us. The assistant manager asked Raquel to help and Raquel ignored her and took a few minutes before coming to assist. During the whole process Raquel was rude when I had to tell her to adjust again. She told my daughter to "get used to the glasses." She also told my daughter her glasses were too big for her. My daughter wears adult glasses and these glasses were kids glasses that she was trying to adjust for her. My son was tapping on the counter and she said "stop!" to my son, which the tapping was gentle tapping and not disruptive enough to break anything. Yet, there's kids running and screaming up and down the hall who I felt needed to be asked to stop. She also told my daughter the way to take off glasses, my daughter doesn't need to be taught how to put her glasses on and take off, she's been doing it for at least 6 years! Also while assisting us a lady came up and she was upset about something. Raquel was talking to her while walking up to the counter while still trying to adjust my child's glasses. The lady was treated rudely. Raquel is unprofessional and provides poor customer service. read more

I went to this location today and received amazing customer service by the entire staff. The lady that specifically helped me out is named Lisa. I believed she said she is the assistant manager. I could see that they were short staffed but remained incredibly patient with me. My children have had their exams there and also received frames and everything that they really loved. When I came in today I had four pairs of glasses that I needed to get adjusted. Lisa took great care in fixing them and they feel so much better now. My family and I will be back! I schedule an appointment at this location for my 5 year old daughter after she had taken a vision test at school and was told she needed to have her eye checked. I was able to get her in right away which was great. When we were initially taken back for the first part of the vision test the tech was not kid friend at all. First off let me clarify, when I called I pointed out my daughter was 5 and if they would be able to do this here. They said yes as long as she knew her alphabets it should not be a problem. Anyways the machines and chairs were not able to get my daughter to the height needed so she sat on my lap, which is not the best position to be in when your forehead has to hit a certain space for a picture to show. Anyways, the tech was getting irritated by that. When she went to put the drops in my daughters eye she seemed frustrated cause my daughter was freaking out about these drops going into her eye. Now to the good part of visit, the doctor was amazing! Very kid friendly! Made my daughter feel comfortable and he vision test went great. He was knowledgable and provided me with get information. Back to the bad experience; I have my daughter pick our her frames, which happened to be one of the more expensive frames. But I went with it since it was for a 5 year old and wanted the glasses to be durable. Order the glasses and was told they would be in the office in 2 weeks. 2 weeks came and went...no glasses...no phone call. I called to get a status and was told it was the lab holding things up. (I do not remember the reasoning). Finally a little over 3 weeks we got a call the glasses were in. Went in picked up. A month later the frames broke! Called and was told they no longer carry those frames and I could pick out another set of frames and would have to pay $60 to get new ones. Went in select a new frame and placed my order. Was told it would take 3 weeks for the glasses to come in. Well we are now 3 weeks 4 days and no glasses. I called 3 days ago to see if they happened to come in and was told no they had not and they would call the lab and get back to me. Well 3 days after that phone call (today) I get a call from nationwide, still no glasses. They are on back order and can take up to another "APPROXIMATELY 10 Days" I expressed to the lady how this was not the first time this has happened and it was annoying not to be notified. She didn't have much to say and all she could do was place blame on the lab. I WILL NOT be doing business with Nationwide again. I actually order glasses online and glassed arrived within 10 days and were a 1/4 the price I paid for the original glasses. Thank goodness I did or my daughter would be without glasses right now. read more

I wish I could give a zero. The customer service at this place is poor, very poor. The female doctor is rude, the front desk staff are rude, their "estimated delivery times" for ordered contacts are way off, they don't call you when your stuff comes in and won't get up and check if it's in when you call. I ordered contacts over the phone on 2/5/15. I was told they'd be in in 3-5 business days and that they'd call me to come pick them up. I waited SEVEN business days and called to see if they were in (on 2/16/15), and the girl said "no they aren't in" before I even finished asking and hung up. Then, today, 2/18/15 I called again, as it has been NINE business days. First she tells me "no they aren't here" and then magically finds them when I start telling her about how long ago I ordered. When I went to pick them up, the receipt said they were delivered to the store on 2/10/16...no one called, no one checked, even when I called in BOTH times. Lazy. Poor customer service. I can't believe this place stays in business. I had the same experience last time, I will never be back, and will make sure those I care about don't step foot in this disrespectful place. I would not recommend this Nationwide Vision. I had an appointment and when I got there was told they were running at least an hour behind and asked if I wanted to reschedule. I wondered why they didn't call me and ask me that, but I told them that I live close by and asked if they could call me a few minutes before they were ready and I would come back. She told me they couldn't call me, my only option was to wait or reschedule. I rescheduled and was there for an hour and a half just for a contact exam. The contacts I wanted weren't in stock so now I have to go back again to let the optometrist see the contacts in my eyes before giving me my prescription. Also the front desk workers were complaining about the optometrist where the patients could hear, and I also heard one of the front desk workers be snippy with a patient about their paperwork. Overall not a good experience. I will go back to Costco next time. read more
