My family and I live on the east side of the valley, but we happily made the trip to Ohana with my sister and parents to get prescription sunglasses, and it was so worth it. The store is spotless, beautifully organized, and packed with an amazing variety of frame styles. I loved the Finding Nemo touches throughout the shop They had frames I haven't seen at other optical stores, from fun and colorful to classic and timeless. I loved so many pairs that choosing was genuinely hard. I ultimately went with a pair of Maui Jims and couldn't be happier. The owners were incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and welcoming, making the entire experience relaxed and enjoyable. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Alice Kwok, the optometrist and her assistant. I have macular degeneration, dry eyes and allergies. So it is difficult for optometrists to assess me because I often cant see differences in lenses. They were so patient with me as they worked on my prescription. I got my glasses from a different office and could not see well with my new lenses and they analyzed my new lenses and gave me feedback to give to the glasses store on how to help my lenses work better. She is very interested in any questions you have and in solving any eye problems you are having. She is friendly and patient. She tested my eyes thoroughly. Then we discussed glasses options and made a selection. When I got my glasses they were the best I have had in years. There was a slight problem with glancing to the left. I'm a little saddened by this practices responses. They don't take calls and prefer to text. They said they were short staffed and that they were out of network with all vision and health plans... lol What?? The offered an eye exam for $149. My insurance is phenomenal and I know if I went somewhere else I'd have no issues. So meh! I think not. With the lack of a phone call and the text about not being in network. I'm okay. Update: I had another appt with Dr Kwok again today (12-13-24) for my routine eye exam and glasses prescription update. Outstanding again as always. She includes several things that other optometrists either charge more for, or don't offer at all, such as retina photos. My previous office offered them but they wanted an extra charge for those. Dr Kwok also does the OCT scan where you look in a device and see laser lights, which then produces cross-sectional views of your retinas, which you get to see. She is the only OD I have ever been to that does the OCT scans. It is normal for Opthamologists to do it, but Optometrists don't often do it, in my experience. The OCT scan tells a lot about the condition of your retinas, and as you get older, it is good to do this. If you look it up online, you'll see details about it. In 2018, she found I had developped a macular hole in one retina with this scan, and referred me to see Opthamologist for a surgical repair. Her acuity exam is also more thorough than I have seen from other OD's. Most others in my past did a "light" exam. Her work is much more comprehensive that the previous OD's I had been to. I didn't have an appointment, and the message on the door said to call the number and they would be happy to answer any questions, and make an appointment or attempt to get a solution. I saw multiple people inside, and they looked at me through the window. I respected their directions, and phoned the number. I had an eye emergency, & really needed help. I was dissapointed because I chose this business for their name "Ohana" meaning family. I feel off about it because I went up to the door, and I'm a black female, and I know they saw me. I'm really hoping it wasn't anything tied into anything racial, but this was really unfortunate and unprofessional in my perspective. Not only is Dr. Kwok extremely knowledgeable, she takes the time to explain all her findings and works with you to get the perfect prescription for glasses or contacts. I've worn glasses since I was two years old and I've rarely come across a doctor that is such a great optometrist, consummate professional, and so nice. She really cares about her patients. The staff take COVID procedures very seriously and put your mind at ease knowing you are in a safe environment. I had been to other optometrists but most of them make me felt like they just wanted my money. Dr. Kwok, however, is totally different than any of them. It was about a month ago when I was there for my annual eye exam. This was my first time here and didn't know what to expect. However, the reviews made me feel comfortable to give it a try. (Thank you yelpers!!) Dr. Kwok was very patient with me and willing to answer all my questions. At the end of the exam, she gave me a new pair of contact lens to try on for a week to make sure they were the best fit for me. A week had gone by, the contact lens that she gave me was perfect and so I went back to ordered 6 months of contact lens. Dr. Kwok told me it should be ready in 3 to 4 business days. They would give me a call when the contact lens were ready. I had waited for 4 days but didn't hear from Ohana. I called them on the fifth day and was hoping my contact lens were ready for pick up. The lady who answered they phone put me on hold for about 5 minutes and I could feel something was not right. She then told me my contact lens were not ready. She told me to wait for a few more days and she would give me a call. She apologized a few times before handing up the phone. 4 more days had gone by and someone from Ohana did finally call me to go pick up my contact lens. When I got there, they told me they gave me the extra 6 months of contact lens because of my long wait. WOW!! I had NEVER had this experience before. Some places didn't even apologized when this same thing happened. The 5 stars are not because of the extra 6 months of contact lens. Alright, I admit that's worth 2 stars. The most that I like about this place is customer service! There is so much hate in this nowadays world and we need some places like Ohana Eye Care that can provide exceptional customer services. They make me feel welcome, they won't show frustration when I have plenty of questions. I definitely will come back to Ohana Eye Care and will recommend all my family and friends to come here as well. read more

Dr. Alice Kwok and her office assistant were outstanding! I am a senior citizen and in all of my years of seeing an ophthalmologists, Alice Kwok is the best. I very much appreciated the welcoming I received by Alice's office assistant. He was polite, patient, and promptly walked me to Alice's office following my initial paperwork completion. The office is VERY quiet and it is clear, the office is about quality--not quantity. Alice spent a very long time with me using state-of-the-art optical equipment and asking appropriate eye related questions. She is OUTSTANDING in her ability to explain why one's eyes are having issues, etc. She takes her time, and is never in a hurry. She continuously asked if I had any questions, and she patiently answered them all. Bottom line? She is the only one I will be seeing for eye services. I appreciated the calmness of the office, her assistant, and Alice, herself. Five stars are not enough. I would give her 100 if I could. I've been a glasses/contacts wearer for most of my life so I've been to several optometrist offices throughout the years. I can honestly say that Dr. Kwok and Ohana Eye Care has been my favorite. Dr. Kwok is extremely thorough and truly listens to what the patient wants. Most recently my contacts had been drying out due to the heat, those random windy weeks we had, and from seasonal allergies. Additionally, I'm a student so I have to do a lot of reading and a fair amount of computer work. Based on my needs, she actually had me test out 3 different pairs of trial contacts to see which one worked best for me. At previous offices, pretty much what they had was what I got. Here, Dr. Kwok took the time to talk to me and find out what was important to me. This was quite refreshing as we all know some health care professionals don't always take the time to do this. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Kwok and Ohana Eye Care. Everyone is very welcoming and made me feel very comfortable. They are in-network with several vision insurances (VSP ftw!) and I believe they do have pricing packages if you are a cash-based patient. Many thanks to Dr. Kwok and her team. Dr. Kwok was very professional and friendly and I got to know more information about the various aspects of the tests more aspects about eyes and eyecare that I haven't heard from other places I visited. I've known Dr. Kwok and Jeff for awhile so when I heard they opened up their office I was very happy for them! Being an eyeglass wearer myself, I've been looking for a better alternative to my current optometry group. Luckily my kid goes to school in AZ so I paid them a visit on one of my trips to see my son. I'll never go anywhere else, even if I have to travel a few hundred miles to see them! "Ohana" means "family" in Hawaiian and that is exactly how they treat you, with good ole Hawaiian style hospitality! They have a great selection of frames too and as long as they have your prescription, they grind the lenses right there on the spot! That's service! They even saw my son on a last minute appointment and he received his exam and new glasses in just over an hour! I am a customer for life! My twelve year old daughter and I tried out Ohana Eye Care yesterday and loved it all. The staff was great from check in, to the exam with Dr. Kwok to the tech that helped us pick out our frames. My daughter is NOT a fan of having her eyes dilated but felt very comfortable! The frame selection was very good and so are the prices!
