I've been a patient at Active Eye Care for my glasses and contact lens prescriptions for a few years. Last year, I learned that Dr. Fechtel was selling the business and that there would likely be a new doctor for my next visit. During my latest appointment on February 21, 2025, I noticed many of the same friendly staff members, along with some new faces. One of the new team members was the technician who conducted my preliminary eye tests. She was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient--so much so that I initially thought she was the doctor! For a small additional fee, Active Eye Care used new scanning technology that eliminated the need for uncomfortable and cumbersome eye dilation, which can linger for hours. I was very happy about that! Shortly after my initial tests, I was seen by Dr. Inga Fors, O.D. She was personable, knowledgeable, courteous, and had a great sense of humor. I felt very relaxed during her examination, and she achieved something I had never experienced before: correcting my vision to 20/15 with contact lenses! I was extremely pleased with the results and her thorough discussion about my overall eye health. When I checked out at the end of my visit, one of her staff members asked me what I thought about the new doctor. My response was glowing, and his reply was equally positive. This made me feel even better about the new Active Eye Care, knowing that the staff is very happy too. Three stars is for Dr. F. I've been going here since COVID started, wearing glasses for years. I am happy with the quality of the exam. I know what I want in eyeglasses and normally purchase 2-4 lens sets every year for different applications in both progressive and bifocal. My problem-they cannot get my orders correct. Constant arguement about the definition of "Reading" vs "Arms Length", bifocal height, and more. I leave the office after saying it doesnt work and I'm told "It's my brain not used to the new Rx", but the second I hit real world vision scenarios I cannot use the product. A two-week process of exam/purchase/delivery turns into 3 or more visits. Again, zero complaints with the exam, but the rest of the processs falls apart dramatically. read more

Do NOT waste your time or money coming to this office ! The " office manager " Jackie has absolutely NO customer service skills. When I came in for my appointment and it was time to order my glasses she had absolutely no knowledge on the product she was selling and didn't have any info to provide me to help assist me in choosing the right lenses. I chose to change my lenses and keep the same frames - she was adamant about me giving them my current frames - I was hesitant because there is no insurance or assurance if they were to be broken ... well fast forward 3 weeks later .. I have to call in to follow up on my glasses and contacts and I was advised that the office had broken my glasses and i would be waiting LONGER for my glasses. No sorry or ownership of their mishap , just a simple " it will be longer now " ( with an attitude ). While I was choosing my glasses Jackie was too busy talking to the other lady at the desk about how her fat footed daughter is choosing to wear hooker heals instead of focusing on the customer in front of her. I came in today to pick up the contacts that were supposed to ordered and the glasses that had finally arrived. Well after the LONG wait for my glasses , Jackie NEVER ordered my contacts. So AGAIN I will have to wait for something that I should already have in my possession. When asking about my products she was very rude and non helpful. Andre tried to explain what happened and Jackie was rude and kept cutting him off. This place is HORRIBLE !! After receiving the glasses after they broke my original pair - they gave me the WRONG frames as original. This place is horrible when it comes to customer service. read more

I found this place strictly on the Internet. Had no reference. I thought I had something in my eye and I was desperate to get something done about it. The receptionist was very nice and said she would slip me in. I had to wait a while but eventually saw the doctor. He was very thorough; did a test, examined my eye and found nothing. He prescribed a medication and I left feeling much better. Since then my eye has healed up very well. I appreciated them slipping me since I didn't have an appointment. I'll be back soon as a new patient since I need a new eyewear prescription. I live in Surprise. read more

Had glasses made but the single visions were made wrong and focus about 16" from my face. Called them up on two different occasions and they said "Sure, just bring them in and we will remake them." I take time off from work and drive all the way in from Festival, then they make me wait 15 minutes in the lobby, then she tells me they can't remake them without the doctor seeing me and they didn't have any openings - I just saw him a month ago. SO, now I have $350 glasses that are useless because THEY MADE THEM WRONG and make it so you have to hoop jump to get them fixed so you will just give up and accept it. Oh, and the technician that helped me did not give one damn about any of it or how difficult it was for me to come back....she simply did not care a single ounce. She was very rude and matter of factley. Sam's club will remake lens if they are not right. These guys not only do everything they can to not do it but OUT RIGHT LIED TO ME on the phone not once but TWICE. DO NOT GO TO THESE CRIMINALS. read more

Tried out this place after a bad experience with Nationwide vision. Dr. Fechtel was great. My vision insurance isn't the greatest and he worked with me to get a great price on both contact and glasses, and did not charge me for 2 vision exams as many chain places do. They also worked with me to get a good price on new lenses. I did feel that he was a tad pushy to try a different brand of contacts which I did, but I did not like the sample set. He switched me back to my regular brand no questions asked. I've recommended them to many people and will be visiting them again soon for my annual followup. read more

Dr. Fechtel is a wonderful Optometrist but I still have trouble with this office. I went back after 2 years for my exam and as it turned out, I needed new glasses. Long story short, I now have new gla$$e$ that I can't wear. I don't blame Dr. Fechtel but I do fault the lens maker / lab. So now I have to wait another 2 years for new glasses because my insurance allows for an exam once every 2 years. And one other thing. My glasses from 2 years ago had Crizal added to the Rx and I loved it so I had it added to my new (useless) glasses for an extra $90 or so. I have no way to know for sure but I really don't think the new glasses have the Crizal because driving at night produces extraordinary headlight glare and glare from street lights and traffic lights. read more

I've read through some of the other reviews of this place. I agree that Dr Bechtel is wonderful, patient and very thorough. Unfortunately, his staff does not seem to back him up. I had to order new glasses, and I ordered them through this office. I'm sorry I did that. I have been waiting nearly 1 month and still no glasses. The Doctor says the Lab broke them TWICE and has to start over. Should be another week. After reading other comments, I would suggest he use another more reliable lab! I have good eye insurance, but I felt the office gal who helped me tried to upsell me the most expensive frames in the place! I declined those, but still ended up with a huge bill. Seems like they only sell expensive frames. Would not get them here again. read more

I will never go to this place again. Dr. Fletcher was very kind but I felt like the office staff was very dishonest & rude. I called when scheduling an appointment to make sure that I would only need to pay a $10 copay for an eye checkup & to get a prescription for new contacts. I have gone to eye doctors for over 15 years for this same exact checkup & always only needed to pay this $10 copay. They assured me that yes, it would only be $10. After my checkup, they then informed me that I needed to pay an extra $70 because I had contacts & there is an extra fee for if you wear contacts. So frustrating because I specifically asked on the phone & would have gone to an eye doctor at Costco or anywhere else & not had to pay an extra $70 if I had known. They would not revoke the cost & would not even give me my prescription, saying I needed to come back the next day to make sure I would pay for it, even though I told them the amount could be deducted from my $130 contact credit (which they had said they could do). They also pressured me over and over to buy my contacts there even though they were double the price of contacts at Costco. I kept saying no thank you & was told at least 3 more times that I should buy my contacts there. Overall, it was a horrible experience & I ended up leaving in tears for being treated so rudely & dishonestly. I usually never write bad reviews but do not want others to have to go through the same experience. read more

I have been going to Active Eyewear for over 5 years. Dr Mark Fechtel is an excellent optometrist. He is very thorough and uses up to date instruments to get precise readings. One thing I really appreciate is his patience. I never felt rushed during the "which is clearer one or two test?". Active Eyewear has a good selection of glass frames and sun glasses. His staff is friendly and glad to help if you need an opinion on frames. Dr Fechtel's rates are fair and I feel lucky to find a doc I can trust. read more

Terrible service!!! No phone calls to tell me if my glasses are done. I call to see if they are done. She tells me that she will have to call me back. On top of that. They messed up the ordering of my glasses. I had told her I wanted crizal. Later, I checked the receipt. She didn't add it. So when I call back to see what was going on with crizal. She called me a lair. I will never go back to this place. My glasses where over $600.00. After they get the money they forget about you!!! read more

Loved this little doctors office. Didn't have to wait long for my appointment at all and the staff was super friendly and helpful. I came in before and they adjusted my glasses for me no problem. Dr. Fechtel is the only good thing about this place. I wish he would get a new office staff. I was told that the $99 frames weren't covered by my insurance. Also told that insurance only paid $120 for frames. After speaking with my insurance company, they DO cover $99 frames and they pay up to $150 for frames. In the process of getting my money back. I cancelled my order but for some reason they don't want to give me a refund. I have no problem paying for my exam and prescription, however the dishonesty cannot be overlooked. Update: They did refund me my money so that is a positive. Still don't trust them. read more

I will never go here again. It took almost 2 months get my glasses. First they never called to let me know my glasses came in. After waiting 3 weeks i called and was told my glasses have been ready. Then, the prescription in my glasses was wrong so they had to replace it. I was told they would rush the order but it still took over 2 weeks to get the replacement in. Which again I had to call because I never heard anything from them. Worst customer service experience which is a shame because the Doctor was wonderful. They have lost my business. read more

Let's just say Dr Fechtel is fantastic. He takes his time and listens to all your needs and concerns. His office staff is why I am giving a review with 2 stars and 2 stars is generous. They are horrible at listening to patients and great at getting the orders incorrect. I have gone to Dr Fechtel for three years. Every time I have ordered glasses there has been an issue. This time is no exception. I had the exam and the Dr wanted to change my prescription a little so I took in a pair of frames that I purchased last year (that were delivered to me with problems and the ladies said there is nothing wrong with them "just wear them for a while" needless to say they just got tossed into a basket and forgot about). They sent in these frames and I got them back with the wrong prescription in them. They sent them back again to the lab and 2 weeks later I got them back and they were wrong yet again. And again the ladies said "just wear them"! In frustration I rescheduled with the Dr and explained the situation. He checked the glasses and said they were wrong and he would address it with his staff. He also said he would ask them to rush the correction since it had been done wrong twice. After waiting another 2 1/2 weeks I called and they said the lab had broken them and they were waiting for a replacement. Now it is over 8 weeks and still no glasses. I feel like I am being forced to take my business elsewhere. Sorry this is so long but it has been a long time and lots of frustration with no resolve. read more

Even Nationwide was able to confirm my eligibility by phone. When I called back after actually being in their office i was told I'd have to wait till after lunch for them to make the call. We have been going there a few times -Today was my last straw with them. First took my kids to see their I specialist to find out the prescription Dr. Fechtel gave my oldest was so off like way off , I went there for an exam on May and I cant wear the glasses and they make me dizzy and make me feel ill. Their prices are not consistent I purchased glasses in the morning and charge a different amount then my son who went in the afternoon. The beginning of July my husband took my son in there because is glasses broke the young lady there said they were covered under warranty so we said go ahead and replace them , and we ordered a new pair...well they called today and said his second pair was ready and I asked if there was a balance mind you the only thing I should be paying for is transition printed out what they sent to my insurance....They are charging me for a medical exam which was never done we came in with a prescription so never saw a doctor, and long an behold they charged my insurance for the frames (which we were told were covered under warrantee and now trying to charge me) when I called the office I was given the run around and told to call my insurance and have them explain not once did they say they were charging me for frames so that is why I owe a large amount, I not sure how I feel about being told one thing and it not be the truth. read more

This place is a joke!!! My 1st visit was in December of 2016. After 2 separate eye exams and 3 attempts to get my glasses and prescription right, finally in late February 2017 I got my glasses and I can actually use them. During this time, they told me they would put a rush on it and they never did, it was always another 14 days at least! I was never contacted to advise the status of the continuous wait.
