I just moved to Arizona from out-of-state. Had a great vision center where I moved from so I was dreading having to find a new one. But, Westbrook Vision Center was a homerun of a choice. Friendly staff from front desk to Dr. Lots of food quality frames to choose from. Just a heads up on your exam...you'll be given a choice to either have your pupils dilated or scanned. We have been using Westbrook Vision Center since moving to the area. This week, I received a message that we would be charged $35 dollars for a retinal scan. We have Vision Insurance for glasses and contacts. It does not cover the scan. We also have medical insurance, which does cover the scan. I was told that since we are coming in for a routine visit, only our Vision insurance would be billed. I contacted our medical insurance, which is an Anthem Medicare PPO, prior to calling. Due to our age and family history, we both are covered for the scan. The person I spoke with was insistent that we needed to pay the $35 dollar "co-pay". We have no co-pays with our insurance. She told me we had paid it before. My husband may have, as he does not pay attention to such things and goes along, trusting. I might add that my last visit I had asked for my cataracts to be removed. I was told not yet. I knew they were causing an issue and felt ignored. I was also told they didn't do the surgery but had someone they used. A month later, I got caught driving after dark. Needless to say, it was not safe, and I was on a two lane road, with nowhere to stop. I could not see with on coming heavy traffic. I called and told them I needed an appointment to get this done. I was simply told they didn't do the surgery and was not referred as was indicated. I called a surgeon I had used for an eye infection prior to moving here. He did the surgery, and I can now drive at night. He also did the scan, and I wasn't charged for it. I have found this up selling to be an issue. I know many are on strict budgets and can't afford to pay for things that are already covered. read more

I went to Westbrook Vision Center in Sept 2022. Fortunately for me, I asked the right questions of Dr. Hum (how much for hard/gas perm contacts) before she began her testing. $700 or more was her response. I told her I've NEVER paid more that $200-$300 per pair, including & up to a couple of years ago. Her response was that she's worked several places & that's the going rate & they are more expensive if you don't have insurance. Well I'm 66 and have worn contacts since I was 13 years old & have bought pairs/replacement contacts many, many times over the years & knew this was a money grab, since most of the time, I've not had insurance. So I walked out. Went to an eye doctor I'd been to a few years ago... got tested, extra macular degeneration test & a pair of contacts for under $400. That's without insurance. (The pair of contacts were $164). For those of you who are happy with this business, I'm glad for you & wish you well. But I will never return to this business or refer it to others. UPDATED: Todd, Dr. Hum simply said hard contacts run $700, even after I told her I'd been getting them for decades & never paid more than $300 per pair. The reason I left before the exam is b/c she said she would not give me the prescription to get the contacts made elsewhere. It would have been ridiculous on my part to stay for & have to pay for the exam, after her telling me that price, since it would not have benefited me at all. As you said in an email to me, you are going to have better training & I hope that is true. This was just a bad experience all around for me. read more

I've worn glasses/contact lenses for over 50 years and had the worst experience at Westbrook Vision Center a couple of years ago. They gave me the wrong prescription for my progressive lenses. Thought I had to adjust to them and after weeks of trying to adjust to them I finally took them back to only find out that the glasses were for computer use. Their employee's response when I took them back "was my bad." The corrected prescription didn't work either. They requested that I take another eye exam which I did and had to pay for. Weeks past after the new eye exam and still didn't have my new corrected glasses. All of this took over 3 months for them to complete and get it right, however the glasses were a poor quality at best. I asked to speak to a manager to get a refund on the second eye exam but never received a call back. I told the receptionist to give my message to management and finally got the credit on my credit card yet no response or apology from Westbrook Vision Center. I don't appreciate disrespectful and phony service. On the bright side, I recently purchased a new pair of progressive lenses at Nationwide Vision and received them in 1 week and have had no problems whatsoever. read more

After being a patient for a couple years and suffering with eye strain and headaches, I decided to get an exam elsewhere. I visited Westbrook often for adjustments and explained how I had headaches. I had paid hundreds for different lenses, trying to resolve things and even tried contacts with readers. I truly felt like a burden, the customer that just is a chronic problem...that wasn't the case, there was something truly wrong with my prescription. The new dr compared scripts and my right eye was completely different than my current script. I've since gotten new lenses and haven't had any headaches or eye strain. I actually didn't even need progressives, like Westbrook had me in. I only needed readers and my eye strain and headaches are GONE!! Additionally, I cannot recall a single transaction where our glasses were right. Something had to be sent back to the lab every time. Over the years we were given 2 pair of glasses free because of mess ups. The last pair of glasses I ordered for a member of my home were also wrong and sent back. When I asked if I could just cancel them, I received a shocking and defensive response from Shireen. She literally asked me to take my business elsewhere if I was so unhappy. My response was, how did you get that from me asking to cancel because the lab messed up. I was already one foot out the door but this recent situation put both feet out the door. I'm so glad I found this place! I had just moved here & didn't really know where to start so I went off my insurance & started calling, Westbrook was the sweetest & so helpful. I was having some issues with a previous prescription which wasn't being released to me so they helped me get that figured out & got me in within the next few days. When I went in I was treated like I was an old friend, they made me feel so comfortable. I didn't wait long & Dr. Smith was so thorough with my exam. He listened to my likes & dislikes of my current contacts & gave me some samples to try. I didn't feel rushed like some doctors have made me feel. After I figured which lenses I liked & ordered them they arrived so quickly, about 3 days later! They have tons of high end designer frames as well as some that are more budget friendly. The lady who was working in the area with the frames knew exactly what she was talking about & was so helpful in finding frames that are perfect for me face shape. Knowing we were in need of visual aid, we approached this office unaware of and unprepared for the magnitude with which our vision was actually being challenged. Our doctor, Dr. Todd Smith, not only took the time to properly assess my daughter and I, upon completion of our exams he took the time to best explain the nature of our problems and probable solutions for the best eye care possible. From the front desk staff to the fitting room staff, top to bottom they were all a pleasure to conduct business with. Although the out the door cost of both the frame and lenses was somewhat pricey, in my mind it was to be expected in order to receive the best possible care - and that, to me, is something that is invaluable. I had an appointment with an eye doctor other than my own, but at the same facility. I arrived 15 minutes early. 30 minutes after I arrived, 15 minutes after my appointment, the doctor came out and called another patient back. after 15 more minutes, 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment, I was still sitting in the waiting area. I went to the desk to tell them that I was no longer willing to wait. She told me an "emergency" had come up and that I was next. 1. Why didn't they inform me that my wait would be longer because of an emergency and 2. why was this emergency taken back an entire 15 minutes after my appointment!? My procedure was suppose to be a quick in and out and only take no more that 15 minutes! I will never make an appointment with this "other" doctor again. She does not honor regular scheduled appointments! I give her 1 star because I have to. An unhappy customer. read more

From the minute you open the door the customer experience is A+, and I mean that literally, because they have one of those door handle covers on their door so your hand doesn't get burned when you open the door. Everyone in the office is great. On our initilal visit Liz help us pick out frames and order our glasses, her patience is amazing and very much appreciated. On our return to pick up our glasses Shireen's smiling face (and hug) greated us as we walked in. She took the time to (re)educate me on the best ways to take care of my glasses. I took my 5 year old for an exam after he failed his eye test with his school nurse. My husband and I always knew that our children would probably need glasses some day because of our family history. Dr Smith was great! He made my son feel very comfortable and safe. Eye exams are scary for children that young and he wasn't because of Dr Smith. Come to find out my son has very bad vision and a slight lazy eye. I was thoroughly explained everything and he made a plan to help my son and correct his vision. I will never take my children anywhere else, In fact I am taking my other two kids to him to be check just in case. read more

I'm really glad that my wife and I found this optometrist. The staff were very warm, accommodating and welcoming. The office is meticulously clean and I was able to fill out my medical questionnaire and my insurance information online. The ability to fill out my medical information online helped streamline the process of not having to show up half an hour early to fill out the medical history as I have to do at my other doctors offices. The wait time after I arrived at the office was only about 5 minutes. However, during this time I was able to begin my search for a new pair of glasses. Dr. Smith approach me and introduced himself and took me back to his exam room for the examination. Not only was he very comfortable to talk with but he was very informative explaining everything he was doing during examination. I was blown away by his ability to quickly enter the information into his computerized medical records. With one push of a button my prescription was entered into his computer and with another push a button and it printed out my prescription and it was easily discernible. My wife and I would highly recommend this office to anyone because of his state of art equipment, the thoroughness of his examination, and the speed at which we were taking back to the examination room. At this office, you won't be waiting in the lobby wondering when you will be seen. It is nice to find a doctor that runs on time and respects my time. I thoroughly enjoyed this office.
