The village eye care had different machines to test our eyes that we have never used before (I've had glasses for 8 years now; so that 8 years of eye exams and we left this place with so much more knowledge about eye health and care) We loved how they took time with the eye exam and then trying on different lens prescriptions to see what was most comfortable was the best part. Last year I had an eye exam somewhere else and I left with glasses that were unwearable because they were too strong. (I had the worst headaches) So this year we switched to The Village Eye care and we could not be happier. They charge extra fees for services they don't even properly provide and will nickel-and-dime you. I went in for a contact lens exam and was charged a contact lens evaluation fee, which felt completely unjustified because Holt didn't actually evaluate anything. After paying the exam copay, evaluation fee, and refraction fee, I noticed the prescription they gave me was only changed by 0.5 from my previous prescription. What bothered me most was that Holt never mentioned the prescription change, never explained why it was changed, and never offered trial lenses or asked me to test the new power to see if it worked better. None of that happened. When I got home and noticed the change, I called the office. They told me that if Holt didn't discuss it during the appointment, I would need to schedule another appointment just to ask about it. That's completely unacceptable. We were charged extra for services they claimed to provide but clearly did not. I would not recommend going there. If you do decide to make an appointment, call ahead and ask for a full breakdown of every possible charge, otherwise they'll hit you with unexpected fees.

Some constructive feedback: I may have returned as a patient when my prescription eventually expired--but this experience made me not want to come back at all. I took them to another optical department for a repair, but they told me they didn't have the correct length of wire and had to rig the repair. Afterward, the frames never felt quite right. Today, I noticed the wire was actually hanging out from the top of my frame. I first stopped at another optical center in Surprise that I knew did repairs, but they told me they wouldn't repair frames that weren't purchased from their location. So I went to LensCrafters in Surprise -- and what a difference! From the moment I walked in, the team was friendly, welcoming, and completely confident that they could fix my glasses. Keep in mind, this was only about an hour and a half before closing. Ricardo told me, "I'll take care of your glasses. Just give me about an hour." I ran a few errands, and before long I received a call saying my glasses were ready. When I returned, Ricardo explained that he had straightened the frames and installed all-new wire. I put them on, and they felt fantastic -- comfortable, straight, and sitting perfectly on my face. I asked what I owed them, and they wouldn't accept payment. I was told it's LensCrafters' policy to provide these types of repairs at no charge. The confidence, friendliness, and willingness to help really impressed me. Another gal called me back to the lobby. She just went right into what my insurance covered and that was it. I had to ask her opinion on the frames I chose, I had to ask her what I was being charged for as they were insanely expensive ... not what the commercials advertise at all. Again, I had to say to her "can you help me find a frame that will work with this prescription" I ended up buying one pair from them and bringing the prescription to Costco up the street where I had incredible one on one attention and bought two other pairs for the price of their one

The front office staff informed the Dr. and they offered me what I considered a reasonable price up front. When I saw Dr. Ornstein, he was very professional and kind and treated my eye condition quickly as I was healed within a few days. He did tell me to return in 2 weeks for a follow up, and I explained to him that I couldn't easily do that --since I had no insurance. Dr. Ornstein was so kind, he told his staff to add me to the schedule in 2 weeks and to not charge me. CARING EYE DOCTOR!

So in comparison to my old eye doc, it seems perhaps Dr. O is slightly more expensive. But overall, I found the visit to be just fine and I will be returning later this year for my next annual visit.
