I have been a patient with this practice for many years. At least 15. I was diagnosed with kerataconus in my early 30s and no one in Flagstaff was able to take care of me. I was sent to a doctor in Phoenix who quickly referred me to Dr Maynard, who was an expert with my specialised needs. He was so amazingly excellent and knowledgable. I love the entire staff and have always had the absolute best experiences I was so nervous when Dr. Maynard retired, but Dr. Heffelfinger has continued to give excellent care to us and any nervousness I had about him retiring has vanished. I have absolute zero problem with driving 2.5 hours for my appointments. They are worth it and have always been able to work with my schedule. I have been going here for 7 years. The last pair of glasses I had to take bake 3 times and I still can't see out of them!!!! I am so frustrated I went to Lens Crafters for the correct measurements for the correct vision in my glasses! What a waste of money. read more

This is my go to optometry place in az! I moved here from CA 3 yrs ago and was hesistant on going anywhere without doing some research about the doctors/staff services first. The optometrist here is board certified, and she was spot on when it came to my prescription! The glare/halo that I always get from lights at night is now gone! I had a previous prescription from a different optometry place back in chico, ca that gave me glare every time i wore it. I brought it up to my previous optometrist and he waved me off saying it was normal. Well, this doctor didnt think so and managed to fix my eyes right up! Thank you so much! I've been to a lot of eye doctors over the years (yay for continuingly worsen astigmatism!!) but this office has to be my favorite I've ever been to. The staff is super courteous and I have never had to wait around last my appointment time. Though my eyes don't require much, just exam, change prescription, order contacts, this office was comfy, accesible, and friendly. I felt like I understood more about my eyes and what I can do to to get the correct contacts for myself. Came in for an eye exam a few weeks ago and I had a great experience with the entire staff from the front desk to the doctor. They made the process super easy to get scheduled for an appointment and they had great customer service. The only downfall is that they don't have your contacts ready for you the same day so you do have to pick them up at another day. They do not try to upsell you or pressure you to buy anything, I came in expecting to get new glasses but they said I really didn't need to. I cannot rate Dr. Heffelfinger even 1 star. I was recommended to this practice by a trusted friend. I went to this doctor for a few years and each year I complained more and more about my left eye. The doctor nor the other technicians listened to me. The doctor told me that I had a cataract forming in my right eye and they'd keep an eye on it. They just kept giving me prescriptions for glasses. This year I didn't keep my annual appointment and went to another doctor. My new doctor found 3 in my left eye and suggested I see an eye surgeon to have them removed. The new doctor and the surgeon didn't know how she couldn't see the cataracts in my left eye. I found out from the surgeon that not only do I need to have cataract surgery I have keratoconus and my replacement lens needs to be a toric lens. THANKS DR. HEFFELFINGER for being a mediocre doctor, at best! read more

Wow, is all I can say. Well, I guess I will say a bit more since this is a review. I have never seen such a thorough exam in my life. The staff was pleasant, especially the eyeglass frames consulting guy (sorry, don't remember his name). The actual exam took about an hour, a literal hour, which to me was very excellent because they checked out everything. I don't know how long I have been going to those places that do your exam for $29 and it ends up taking about 10 minutes literally for the exam. One time I went to the Alex Optical at AZ Mills and I knew she did it too quickly, sure enough, my eyeglasses were nowhere near powerful enough. I was not able to find any eyeglass frames that I liked and they gave me no issues about it, gave me my prescription to buy my eyeglasses somewhere else. I was happy I listened to the reviews because now I have an eye person! I would gladly return here again for all of my eyeball needs. read more

Who would have thought that an eye exam could be enjoyable? I went in for a routine exam today at Camelback Eye Care and I almost want to go back right now just to get another exam. The entire staff was super courteous and attentive, the eye exam was very thorough but never boring (so many cool gizmos!), the optical technician, Suzanne irc, was knowledgeable and kept me entertained, and Dr. Heffelfinger did not fail to impress either (I was apprehensive about letting someone else put in my contacts, but Dr Heffelfinger was so skilled that I think I would rather have her put them in every time). I usually see Dr. Heffelfinger but saw Dr. Maynard at my last visit. Both are so friendly and take the time to get to know you. I never feel rushed and they both are very thorough with the eye exam and explain everything they do. I've been coming here the last few years and will continue to come for my eye care. They always give me a few bottles of contact solution at every visit, which I use for my traveling so I love that! They make you wait outside. The place is so small, they can't do "social distancing". I got there at 1:55 for a 2 pm confirmed appointment and they asked me to call first to see if they had "a room" for me. I called and they didn't. They expected me to wait in my car with the a/c running, wasting gas, and polluting the air. At 2 pm, I knocked at the door. They told my appt was a 2:45. The girl confirmed it yesterday for 2pm! She wanted me to wait outside for 45 minutes! I said, cancel it. There are lots more eye doctors around. I chose them, because they were close to my home. Never again. Wasted time and effort. Walking up, I was initially underwhelmed by the location, but what they lack in pizzazz on the outside, they make up with care on the inside. The appointment was right on time, the tech and doctor were both friendly and explained everything in terms I understood. They candidly discussed my options for my allergy-prone, sensitive eyes. When the tech took my glasses to check my prescription, he took the extra time to tighten up the screws and straighten them out. My glasses don't fall off my face anymore!
