If I could make it -5 I would. The doc (Eastman) failed to tell me he was ordering different contacts than I requested. Consequently, one lens got stuck in my eye and his assistant scratched my cornea, using the wrong implement, removing the lens. Then charted the wrong eye for the scratch and put the lens in the wrong side of the case. Gave me some fantasized reason for the bad fit. The doc admitted the lenses were NOT what I requested only after I confronted him. Terrible. read more

Best optometric care experience. Saw Dr Kuby for an issue schedule as emergent visit ahead of a schedule visit with Dr Zaglebaum. The issue had been overlooked by another OD at different practice though was my chief complaint when I had scheduled with another practice. She noted a possible retinal issue and referred me to a specialist. She consulted with Dr. Zaglebaum ahead of my next scheduled appointment. Technical team are also outstanding. First time Customer experience Feb 12th, 2024, 4:30PM appointment... My appointment was scheduled weeks in advance and not squeezed in for a short-term visit. I arrived 15min early prior to my scheduled appointment and had all forms filed and turned in before the actual appointment time. After waiting +50min past my scheduled visit time I was not reassure of the reasons for the delays (nor any type of acknowledgement), at 5:20PM I had to leave due to other engagements. Another unethical practice encountered during my initial check-in process: At some point the receptionist is asking us to apply two signatures on a electronic pad but for which you are not presented the related forms.... I never seen this anywhere and to me is a truly unacceptable practice. I did not have a good impression of this facility from the time I got in which combined to the overall experience definitely have me not be back. The intent of this review is not to tarnish the facility reputation as I did initially select it based on the reviews found on this site. I started with a very severe dry eye, and initially saw the late Dr. Epstein, who absolutely saved me with all the treatment recommendations that he gave me. I have now started to see Dr. Lapin also an absolutely amazing dry eye specialist and I have had a significant improvement. I had very very severe dry eyes And was almost not able to function. The treatment I was given has been a miracle. I felt very cared, for never rushed, and I have every confidence in Dr. Lapin's medical and dry eye knowledge. Long story short: there was a metal shaving stuck in my eye. I was finally able to flush it out after numerous saline eye washes, but my eye was messed up...and it was a Sunday. Easter Sunday, no less. So imagine all the available options I had. Luckily, I called the Phoenix Eye Care emergency line and was contacted shortly after by Dr. Lappin. Talk about a life-saver! He was able to see me pretty quickly to help me out. Dr. Lappin did a thorough eye exam to assess the damage, then carefully instructed me on what was going on and how he was going to take care of it. Even as nerve-racking as the thought of having things put into your open eye is- he somehow made it completely comfortable. The entire process went way more smoothly than I ever imagined! Dr. Lappin was courteous, professional, and comforting. I highly recommend Phoenix Eye Care. Dr. Epstein and his staff have been so wonderful in helping me with my dry eye and cornea problems. From the welcoming office staff, his assistant to Dr. Epstein himself, an all around professional and encouraging experience. Dr. Epstein takes the TIME to help each patient and has a wonderful bedside manner. With their help, I was able to get the expensive treatment I needed and they coordinated everything with my insurance and the drug company. I've been to several doctors trying to find help and Dr. Epstein is one of the few that I've felt has CARED enough to find answers and confident I'm going to continue to improve. He is well versed in the latest treatment options and will not give up on his patients. We all have only one life..... so much of life is dependent on quality of life. His demeanor was peculiar, and his presentation like something out of high school. I just had to take a moment to give a great review to these amazing professionals. What an awesome group of people.The receptionist was professional yet kind and made us feel so welcome. I had forgot to fill out the medical forms online and she was totally fine with it and accommodating. We hate wearing face-diapers... I mean slave muzzles, I mean.... masks, and these people didn't say one word to us about a mask. We really appreciated that. The pre-exam was quick and all of their equipment is absolutely top-notch and the latest in the industry. Then Doctor Lappin came in and gave me the most comprehensive and in-depth review of an eye problem that I have ever been given. I was a new patient here last year and went for a normal eye exam to get a new prescription. I did not sign anything nor was I asked if I wanted anything but an eye exam. After being the room for one minute the male doctor put drops in my eyes and did not tell me why. My vision started to get cloudy and I asked why. He said he dilated my eyes I asked why I didn't sign anything and I drove myself. The doctor said you'll be fine in a half hour. Well after sitting in my car for over an hour I called my husband to come pick me and he left work immediately. Please do not go here I have had glasses/ contacts since kindergarten and now I'm 33 years old, I know what is supposed to happen and this was not it. Not sure if they get extra insurance money by doing this but there was no reason for me to have my eyes dilated. The only reason I'm writing this now is due to the email I received telling me to come back. Update 2/16/20: Phoenix Eye Care has gone downhill since this review. People mentioned in the review have changed completely and offer a nasty attitude. I was considering contacts and was offered to try it after signing a contract. It the fine print, this try-on cost over $200!! We were shocked when we paid! After much consideration, we called and talked to someone mentioned below. They said that they would have thoroughly read the fine print. We were pretty rushed as the contract was being signed! We got our money back, but you may not. Steer away from this office!! Prior Review: I had a wonderful experience. I had come to the office for EnChroma glasses. They are colorblind glasses that are only offered here in the state. This is only one of two offices in AZ that offers them. Angelina, the very kind lady at the receptionist desk, was very hospitable. She offered food from the offices lunch earlier that afternoon. She was very fun to talk to, and had a great sense of humor. Everyone gets a kick out of her. It was a little of a long wait, but everyone that worked there made it feel short. Dr. Steinhäuser was also very funny and kept the room full of energy, and laughs. She made me feel comfortable since this was my first time at the office. Disclaimer: I did not see a doctor here so I can only review my experience with the staff but they were wonderful! Thought I scratched my cornea on a Thursday night and spent Friday morning calling places to see if anyone could fit me in at the last minute. The folks at Phoenix Eye Care were so accommodating and managed to fit me in immediately! Unfortunately, when I got there we realized that although they accept my insurance company, they do not accept my plan. The front staff gave me the option of paying out of pocket, which I decided not to do, then not only found another place that accepted my particular plan but called them personally to ensure they were able to see me that day. They were so nice and funny! I highly recommend you check them out! I would definitely be returning if they accepted my insurance plan. read more

My daughter was seen there as a new patient 3x for an eye infection emergency. She was in horrible pain, was losing her vision, and had seen two other doctors and was on her 3rd round of antibiotics without any improvement. She was scared and despairing. They got her in the same day, quickly diagnosed why she was not improving, did a procedure to resolve the issue, and got her on the right medicine! A few years back, my daughter had something in her eye. I was unable to see what was in there, I used warm clothes, and tea bags to see if I could get it out. A few hours later her eye swelled up and it was really red. I googled emergency eye offices that were open on the weekend. I found Phoenix eye care and left a message. They called me within 15 minutes and I sent a picture of my daughter's eye. They told me I could come In tomorrow morning, which was on a Monday no appointment needed. I was welcomed by Angelina the lady at the front desk, who was concerned about my daughter's eye. Her kindness made my daughter feel comfortable, and that everything would be ok. I knew then we were in the best care. Dr. Steinhouser was able to take out what was in my daughter's eye lid. After that day, I never went back to another eye Doctor. I love Phoenix Eye Care! Within the past year I developed moderate dry eye symptoms and finally received the care I needed here. My dry eye symptoms have reduced significantly after doing the LipiFlow treatment. Also, Dr. Steinhauser did a routine eye exam and found some issues that my other optometrists never noticed. One word: WOW! This Doctor's office is absolutely amazing! I woke up miserable this morning with a corneal abrasion and managed to catch them on the Saturday they were open (yes, I will be buying a lottery ticket AND going to the casino, since I'm feeling lucky ). Dr. Steinhäuser was so amazing, gentle and funny AF! Definitely coming back for a regular routine check up! The staff (front AND back of house) are just as amazing and funny as their big boss. Dr Steinhauser is the best!!! I went to see her over a year ago for a regular check up as she is highly recommended. She impressed me with her professionalism and her high level of technical knowledge, but mostly with her caring attitude. Friday night my left eye started to itch a little so I gently massaged it but it soon got worse. After a while it felt like a pin was sticking in it and I couldn't sleep at all. I just put an ice pad on it and waited until 8am until places started to open. I called a lot of opticians that were open but nobody could fit me in without an appointment. Finally I called Dr Steinhauser even though I knew they were closed on Saturdays. She texted me back after a short time and agreed to meet me at once at her office. She found and removed a small plastic bead from deep under my eyelid and gave me a free sample of antibiotic drops to make sure it healed well. She also put some drops in my eye to relieve the soreness and I left the office feeling perfectly fine. I highly recommend Dr Steinhauser, she's one of the kindest doctors I know! read more

Absolutely the BEST!! Believe ALL the amazing stories of great care. I, as a medical professional, would NOT recommend 'trying' any other eye doctor. Yes, this is yet another 5+star review for Dr. Shannon Steinhauser and the team at Phoenix Eye Care. This review is going to sound like other reviews by people who have had someone they care about mis-diagnosed, mis treated and in increasing pain, only to have Dr. Shannon Steinhauser and the team go over and above to provide competent, professional, emergent, yet compassionate care. My daughter had recently had an eye exam with another facility and been fitted with a new type of contact. After about a week of increasing discomfort, she called to tell them she was having pain and they said she could come back and get her original type of contacts (that she has been wearing for 8 years without issue), however, the doctor did NOT need to see her. The next day, I was out of town, when my daughter, who doesn't go to the doctor unless she is bleeding, called me with severe eye pain and was unable to see out of her right eye. This was Friday morning, she could not even see to drive. She was able to get into the original practice but not see the doctor who prescribed the contacts. She was diagnosed with - red eye and eye swelling. No dye was put into the eye. Her pain was not addressed. The appointment was anything but compassionate. The was prescribed steroid drops. By 4pm she was having increased pain so she called the doctor back. They said there was nothing they could do and they let her know it is was Friday at 4pm. She was in pain, frustrated, but most of all scared for her vision loss. My mom started looking for emergency eye care and found Phoenix Eye Care. by this time it is almost 5pm....on Friday. Angelina was calm and cool. She was so caring to my family (you know how anxious grandmas can be when calling about their grandchild). She said for them to come right in. They arrived and got right in. Little things the staff did like dimming the lights, offering water made a HUGE difference in bringing down the anxiety level. Dr. Shannon Steinhauser greeted them and immediately went to work. She put dye in the eye and was immediately aware of the problem. My daughter had TWO corneal abrasions (one was 4mm x 3mm and could be seen with the naked eye with the dye and black light). She also noted irritation due to the medication that was making this condition worse (in this situation, steroid drops on an open wound vs. antibiotic drops is not a good option). She administered pain drops, antibiotic drops and placed the contact-like bandage over the cornea. The eye pain was immediately reduced. My daughter continued to use the antibiotic drops and saw Dr. Steinhauser on Monday. The eye is healing and I believe she will have full vision soon. I called the first doctor back and let him know how unhappy i was with the misdiagnosis, wrong medication, lack of investigation (not putting dye in her eye). His answer was that he was correct, my daughter didn't act like she was in that much pain and putting the dye in could have caused the corneal abrasion. I had to end the call before I lost it. I will be posting, i believe, my first ever negative review for this unsympathetic provider. Long story to say how much I deeply respect, appreciate and highly recommend Phoenix Eye Care, Dr. Steinhauser and her entire staff. I ended up scratching my eye on a Saturday morning but thought i had something in my eye. When I woke up Sunday morning my eye was not feeling as it should, so I proceeded to find an eye doctor on a Sunday morning, not an easy task as most offices are closed, I ended up at a Lenscrafter's and after checking out my eye the doctor told me to get help immediately as this case was too urgent to wait. I was provided with a name and phone number of a specialist only to be told by the specialists answering service that they would not help me because I was not a current patient. Sounds awesome, huh? Urgent eye issue and no doctor to help on a Sunday morning. After doing an online search for emergency eye care, my wife contacted Dr. Shannon L. Steinhäuser and left her a voice mail. The doctor called my wife back and met us at her office on Sunday late afternoon/early evening and was able to determine my issue was not as serious as originally stated and proceeded to prescribe me a medicine and setup a follow up appointment for the next afternoon. When I arrived at the pharmacy they told me they did not carry the medicine and for me to come back tomorrow. I called back Dr. Shannon on the cell phone number she had given me and she told me that it was urgent that I get the medicine and that she would call around town and find me a pharmacy which stocked the necessary medicine. Dr. Shannon found a pharmacist willing to stay after closing hours for me to make it to the pharmacy and pickup my medicine. Fast forward two days and my eye felt great as if I never had any issue. To find an eye doctor who cares enough to help you out on a Sunday is rare but to find one that spends her Sunday evening ensuring you get the necessary medicine and talks a pharmacist into staying after closing hours to wait for you is a blessing from above. Dr. Shannon Steinhauser and the team at Phoenix Eye Care are phenomenal. Over a period of about 12 hours my husband became unexpectedly blinded and in pain. He initially saw Dr. Singh at Southwest Eye Surgeons (see negative review posted earlier for full details), who lacked all compassion and completely misdiagnosed him as simple misuse of contacts. Mind you, my husband has been wearing contacts for more then 25 years. In addition, Dr. Singh proscribed an improper medication due to the misdiagnosis and then failed to recognize my husband's allergic reaction to the medication. As a result, my husband's pain skyrocketed and his eyes were completely swollen shut. We just felt that Dr. Singh's diagnosis was wrong and believed that my husband was allegoric to the medication; against Dr. Singh's instructions we discontinued to the medication, cancelled our next appointment with Dr. Singh (we saw him two days in a row and was supposed to come in again on day three) and found Dr. Steinhauser. Her office staff listened to our concerns over my husband's eye health, agreed it did not sound like contact misuse, agreed he may be having an allergic reaction and called Dr. Steinhauser on a Saturday morning, who agreed to meet us at her office in a few hours. The entire staff was compassionate and caring. Dr. Steinhauser knew immediately that my husband had "severe chemical burns" in both eyes and had not abused his contacts. She treated him with the appropriate medication, agreed that he was, in fact, allergic to the previous medication and placed needed bandages over his corneas, as the top layer of both of his eyes had peeled off. After seeing Dr. Steinhauser, my husband was finally able to open his eyes, the pain was significantly diminished and he was able to see again. And, he was back at work on Monday morning.
