we had our pool installed by Joel and there was a major mistake! I called and complained, no one changed it as only sub contractors were on the job and they didn't speak English. the in-floor cleaning system was guaranteed for life. lol! joel and company won't send you new heads! we have needed them several times since we had the pool installed and every single time it is 3 or 4 months of me texting and calling every week. by the time one comes I need two more! it is a struggle to get them to do as promised I'm so frustrated now I neeeed almost all of them again! We are so impressed with our swimming pool that National Pools and Spas made for us in May of 2018! Joel Hadley was our contractor and was very easy to get along with and was very understanding to get what we wanted. We had visited with more than three swimming pool companies and everyone had A) B) or (C) to choose from. That's when I knew if we wanted something special we were going to have to hire our own contractor. So, off I went to pray and ask our Heavenly Father for someone that could do that and after a few pictures and drawings we were off to start our new swimming pool and water feature. The worst pool building experience you can ever imagine. Joel was rarely at the job site, multiple mistakes were made by his subcontractors especially the plumbing company. Our pool is 2 years old and we have had endless problems. We finally had to involve the state and get an attorney to get issues addressed. Once Joel received his money it was impossible to have him return to fix any problems. We finally started to hire outside companies to make repairs and they would discover yet another thing was was done incorrectly by Joel. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, you will regret it. We have come to regret ever having Joel and his company build us a pool. I don't ever know what name to call his company. In the last two years his company has changed names 3 times. There is a reason for that. So whether it's Pool Buddy, National Pools or now Gratis Pools run away as fast as you can, you will be glad you did. read more

Joel Hadley is not reputable. The initial quote will seem reasonable, but then Joel will increase the cost because he will claim his costs went up. That is why he uses the cost plus 25% model. If he wants more money, he just has to say his costs went up. When this unfair business practice fails, Joel will claim that there have been modifications. For example, on my job, I drew him a picture of what I wanted. He built it incorrectly because he is not organized or knowledgeable about any specific job. So, to correct his mistake, he charged me more and called it a modification. In order to get paid all of these extra fees, he will hold you hostage and refuse to finish your pool unless you pay his demands. He can make up whatever he wants, and you can pay his ransom, or be left with a concrete hole in your yard. Joel has several different business entities: Gratus Pools, PoolBuddy, National Pools, etc. You can draw your own conclusion why he would need to obfuscate his identity. He is shady. read more

Great vision and pricing! Like it was their own backyard and pool they were planning! So much better than the "big name" pool builders! Have to say though it was not our first pool so we knew some of the pitfalls first time pool customers fall into with unrealistic expectations (we'd been there, done that). This builder always made sure we were happy with the work at every stage. Was tough toward the end of the process with the final punch list (no more than normal construction jobs), but once complete...we couldn't be happier and it was well worth it!! Also was pleasantly surprised they took care of the behind the scenes things you don't think of, like registration of all pool parts...which was helpful when the salt cell quit working (faulty cell, nothing to do with builder). Super easy and had a new one installed within a week. Was such a nice added customer service touch to do that and we really appreciated having a builder do that!! read more

My fiancé and I ended up going with National pool and spas to install a pool in our new build home. After meeting with several different companies none of them really gave us straightforward opinions, they all seemed pretty "used car salesman" for our taste. Meeting Joel he was immediately put us at ease. He did not try to oversell us anything and had many recommendations for us because we had an idea of what we wanted but definitely needed some guidance from a professional to make sure everything turned out how we envisioned it. There was a bit of delay with getting started but that was due to weather and once they were able to get going everything moved along smoothly. The reason for the 4 star review over the 5 is just due to the face that it wasn't always easy to get ahold of them during the process when we had questions ( however we did install during the busiest season of the year, and eventually we did get answers just not always as fast as we would have liked. ) after the pool was complete we had a few issues which Joel's partner Jerry was always immediately available to help us out with. Our pool turned out absolutely beautiful and it exceeded our expectations when all was said and done. read more

We had an outdated pool, that needed to be completely re-done. Joel listened to our ideas and came up with a plan, that was within our budget. By reshaping the existing pool, an updated shape was achieved that we love. Our only regret is that only one light was installed. With the size and shape of the pool, two lights would have been better for us. read more

They have to be the worst pool builder in the valley. They came highly recommended but was totally misrepresented. They cannot follow drawings, cannot measure, they do not check their work, they do not ask questions, and do not admit to their mistakes when proven to them.
