We have been here before and it was excellent. The last two times not so good. Earlier this year we went there for supper because we wanted the thick crust pizza. I asked the waitress WHICH pizza has the thick crust. She said the Sicilian. I said Ok, that's the one we want. We want half meatball and half pepperoni. She wrote it down. When she brought it out..... it was NOT sicilian. She said that that is what I said we wanted. I had to remind her about our conversation about the Sicilian being the thick crust. She took the pizza and I KNOW she checked the slip trying to put the blame on someone other than herself. Nope. She came back and asked if we wanted to wait for the correct pizza and of course, we said yes. What? We were still hungry!!!! Why wouldn't we want to wait???? So, a little more than 15 minutes we had our pizza and it was excellent!!!!! She brought our bill when we were done and a bag with two cannolis "for desert" and for her error. We thanked her and said it was ok she made the mistake. Gave her a very generous tip. Fastforward to this past Saturday night, May 27, 2023. We took my 16 yo grandson out for dinner. My husband and I got a large Sicilian pizza HALF meatball HALF bacon, and my grandson ordered shrimp scampi. Two waitresses brought out his meal........ one had a plate of scampi and one had a plate gnocci. I thought they brought it to the wrong table. I told her we didn't order gnocci, only the scampi. She seemed confused and started an little argument with me. "You didn't order gnocci?!!!??!!" No, we didn't. They stood there just looking at me like I was lying. They left the scampi, my grandson was mortified and apologized to me because he thought he had caused the problem. She then came back and said "WELL, THE PERSON WHO SAT IN THAT SEAT ALSO ORDERED SCAMPI AND HAD GNOCCI TO GO WITH IT". What did that have to do with anything?????? She just added to my grandson's discomfort. THEN, as if that wasn't enough..... she brings the pizza out and IT is wrong, also. It is a large Sicilian pizza with meatball AND bacon on top. NOT HALF AND HALF. Another woman saw our confusion and came over, possibly the head waitress? We told her we did not order the pizza like that. She went and GOT THE SLIP AND PUT IT IN OUR FACES!!!!!! That is NOT what I told the waitress. I clearly said HALF meatball and HALF bacon. She said just take the meatball off !!!!!! Well, if I did that there would be no topping at all on my half of the pizza because there was hardly any bacon on it!!!!! Again, with the bag of two cannolis as an apology. I told her we did NOT like cannolis and threw the bag on the table because now, my niceness and understanding was GONE. Did they take money off my bill ??? NOPE. Did they apologize? NOPE. This is NOT a way to do business. We sat in booth number 79. BOTH TIMES WE WERE SITTING IN BOOTH 79. If you go there to eat DON'T SIT IN BOOTH 79, they will screw up the order. Not sure we will be going there again but if we do I will write my order in big letters and hand it to the waitress and if we don't get what we want I will not pay for it. We don't eat out often but when we do we would like it to be what we wanted. The bill came to $69 and change!!!!!!! Large pizza and shrimp scampi. We are on a fixed income. Can you say rip-off? Reading some of the other reviews, I note that people from out west think this place it the best. Have you tried one of the MANY other pizza places in Wallingford? This is not THE best. I recently had a sausage and mushroom pizza their take out and was very disappointed. The sausage was sliced so thin you can hardly see it and had no taste. I recommend that instead of thinly sliced sausage they should use chunks of sausage. I had this kind of pizza elsewhere and they use chunks of sausage and it makes the pizza more flavorful read more

I have been a local returning customer for over 20 years. The service by the wait staff has been declining for years. I'm talking about the servers, not the helpful gentleman at the front. Yesterday I called to ask what time they were serving in the restaurant until on the patio because Indoor seating is not allowed. She said 9 pm. My family showed up at 8:24 pm and the server was sweeping and told us, "we're closed" with a nasty attitude. I told them I have been a customer for years and am very unhappy. She didn't even acknowledge me and kept vacuuming. The young server was not professional and I will not be returning back with me or family members. Napoli's is our go to Pizza place! We often find ourselves there any given night of the week for a large pizza and some drinks. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated, warm and inviting. The staff is friendly and attentive! As well as the pizza is just good pizza! They have other food on the menu that I have taken the time to try, but I have not been a fan of the pasta dishes in the past. We've had their wings, which were also pretty good. Their meatballs are okay, but not my favorite in comparison to their pizza. We love the Napoli Special, in particular. Hands down the best pizza in Connecticut I've had so far! Originally from New Jersey it has been so hard to find a really good pizza and I was absolutely blown away. Everything was freshly made and tastes so good.You could really taste the authenticity of the pizza and the sauce was absolutely made there. I was actually looking for a pizza place in the area and I found some great Yelp reviews. This is a 45 minute drive from my house but I will definitely be back. Why on earth did it take me so long to get here? My co-worker used to visit Napoli from Branford w/ friends and always told me to check it out. Hubs and I went last week for a nice mid-day lunch on Sunday. We ordered garlic bread (delissssh) , pasta alfredo and my husband ordered the Shrimp risotto special. We really enjoyed the side salads that came w/ the dinners- they were very fresh. I also love radishes on salad- crisp and plenty. The pasta was delicious and my husband loved his meal. The service was on point. They had multiple waitresses/waiters and busboys, all of which cleared the table and packed food to go in a timely manner. Aside from the creepy loiterers outside, don't let the outside of this place discourage you. The inside is very nice, clean, and has delicious food. My boys ordered a sausage pizza and I ordered a white clam pizza. The kids really enjoyed the pizza and this is white clam pizza was better than Frank Pepe's, I thought. Napoli is probably my favorite pizza in the Meriden/Wallingford area. There's just something about the cheese - it's thicker than cheese on other pizzas, but it's the perfect amount of thickness for this pizza; salty, but not too salty; and it's got that perfect amount of chewiness. The crust is thin - like a New York-style - and it has a good crunch and smokey flavor. The sauce tastes really fresh - like it's nothing but tomatoes - and there's a good amount of it. I treated myself to a lovely cheese pizza just for me after my last day of classes this semester, and my brother and I picked up one for dinner this week. Napoli is definitely at the top of our list of places to order, and we're looking forward to stopping in to eat there this summer. When we went to pick up our pizza this week, we noticed some nice outdoor seating, and the indoor dining area also looks very welcoming. I once picked up a calzone during the school year, and while it was good, I think I prefer the pizza. Also, I'm not sure if it's because they were out of boxes, or if it wouldn't fit in a pizza box, but I got it wrapped in foil inside a paper bag. It was kind of hard to carry because it was so hot and flimsy, and I was afraid of cheese grease getting on my car seat. If I want a calzone again, I'd probably order one and eat it there. I was surprised to discover that stuffed breads are made to order and only take around 10-15 minutes. I asked how large one was and was told about 16 inches; turned out to be 19". I watched it being assembled and the ingredients were very fresh. The crust turned out to be a little too chewy, but the filling was very good. It took the hubby and I quite some time to find a decent pizza place in Wallingford--this is it! We've never been disappointed by any of our choices in pizza. Tonight, however, Kirstin and I went out and she was looking for something "saucy", so we tried the dinners--I had the cavatappi parmesan and she had the chicken parmesan. Both dinners were reasonably priced and yielded another meal for the next day. The meat sauce had a great flavor to it, with lots of cheese mixed all over the pasta. The chicken was huge and covered nearly the entire dinner plate, so pasta in a side bowl was necessary. Dinners also come with either soup or salad and their awesome, crusty bread. You really can't go wrong with this joint--and on a Friday night, you'll see that everyone in town has the same thought as you. What a change from the Napoli I remember! Saturday night there was a wait out the door, for a reason! The food was excellent. The ambience changed dramatically from the old Napoli. The waitress wasn't the friendliest person I ever met, but the food definitely made up for what she lacked. The entrees did look a bit on the pricey side for me, since I don't normally pay more than $12 for a meal, but the pizza was such a change from what I remember before. They make the pizza right out in the open now too, while you are waiting for a table you can watch them make other pizzas and you can practically see the whole kitchen. Let me preface this by saying that me and my wife were both starving and in the mood for red sauce and pizza place stuff so we decided to drive a couple towns over to Napoli as we don't really like the pizza in our town and have heard good things about this place. We ordered a chicken parm grinder and calamari to split. They told us on the phone they didn't have tartar sauce. No big deal, we grabbed our $25 chicken parm grinder and calamari and went home. The calamari tasted old, like fryer oil and well overcooked. They said they cleaned and breaded the squid by hand and made it there even though there were no tentacles just a container of the same sized rings. It tasted old, fishy and like it had been in the old oil about 10 min too long. The red sauce was very good. The chicken parm grinder wasn't a cutlet but rather a cutlet that was chopped into chunks like cat food and put on a roll. The roll and the red sauce were good but the chicken itself tasted old and previously frozen. Also if it was a cutlet at one point why chop it up and not like leave it as a whole sandwich sized cutlet? Neither my wife nor I, hungry as we were, were prepared to choke it down. I rarely call and complain about food bc even with the worst food we've ever ordered we can usually make do and eat enough to not make it a total loss. But with this stuff we were so disappointed we decided to call and see if we could just bring it all back for a refund or at least order something else that we felt like we could eat. The manager was not interested in hearing about any of it even when i suggested that I could bring it back with seriously two bites taken out of it. He curtly informed me that they had been there 50 years, everyone loves their food and I'm beat. My wife and I were told to suck it up and enjoy the lousy food bc even if we returned it uneaten we would not be offered a refund or replacement of any kind. Napoli is a great little Neopolitan style restaurant in Wallingford that serves a variety of Italian dishes. I've been here twice and have never been disappointed with the service or the food. On my last visit I had their gnocchi special. The gnocchi was legit, made with love and a huge portion I had a hard time getting myself to not completely finish in one sitting.. it was that good. The chicken parm dinner is the biggest seller at Napoli and after trying it it's easy to see why. The dinner includes a choice of soup or salad and I chose the latter and it proved to be a great choice. Full of a variety of fresh, colorful veggies and 2 kinds of olives, this salad was a great start to my meal. The accompanying basket of bread was also a welcome addition. When my entree arrived it looked and smelled great and tasted even better. The chicken was tender and tasty with a nice crisp breading. The real star was the red sauce. Easily one of the best I've ever had. It hit all the right notes. This sauce could make my shoe edible so when you add it to some nice chicken and top it with cheese that's a home run in my book.
