"Chicken Cutlet Bruschetta" (chicken cutlet topped with bruschetta tomatoes & mozzarella cheese)
    Matthew L.

Antonio's on Route 5 is an Italian restaurant, sub shop and pizzeria that opened in North Haven, Connecticut in 1986. It was founded by Antonio Occhibove. Originally called "Antonio's Pizzeria" (and then later "Antonio's Sub Shop & Pizzeria"), the establishment has been located at a few different spots on Washington Avenue throughout the years. They have been located at their current address at 528 Washington Avenue for approximately 15 years. The menu consists of a variety of Italian-American staples including chicken entrees, eggplant entrees, seafood entrees, pasta dishes, pizza, soups, salads, appetizers, panini and focaccia sandwiches, subs and wraps. The current owner is Kristjan Lulaj. My family and I recently ordered pizza from Antonio's. We were hosting a birthday party for our younger son and thought that everyone would want pizza. After shopping around, we found that Antonio's had some VERY decent prices. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I've lived in North Haven for my whole life and I never ordered from them. We ordered 4 extra larges: a "Mozzarella", a "Margherita" (fresh homemade mozzarella, tomato sauce, olive oil and fresh basil), a "Chicken Cutlet Bruschetta" (chicken cutlet topped with bruschetta tomatoes & mozzarella cheese), and a "Vodka Pizza" (square pie topped with vodka sauce and mozzarella cheese). When I arrived to pick up the pizzas, the whole restaurant smelled amazing. I saw one of the staff making some stuffed breads in the kitchen. When I got home, the pizzas looked and tasted great. They were a big hit with the party. I can't believe that it took me so long to finally order from Antonios. They make great quality Italian food for very reasonable prices. We'll definitely be back!

I had dinner a few weeks ago ago on a Fri night . The food was fantastic but the space was very cramped And limited. We had chicken Florentine and a grilled shrimp over spinach in a lemon sauce. Very good . Soup salad and side of pasta it's also a BYOB if you choose to bring alcohol.. Definitely recommend reservations it had a good wait . They would definitely be a 5 star if they had more room. Enjoy a great variety of delicious food. Chris M

Wow. Just wow. Fresh baked bread is the first thing you see in the cases when you walked in. That's where I first knew I needed something on that focaccia roll. All of the bread and dough is made fresh here. You can't go wrong. One of my party got a huge fried dough. This isn't the fried dough of fairs. Just like the bread, the dough was made in house and it had great flavor. The sandwich I got had chicken cutlet which was perfectly thin and crispy whiteout being dry. My sandwich ended up being communal since everyone wanted to try it lol. The mozzarella sticks...more like massive triangle...was swoon worthy! The chef came over to check in and ask if we liked the food. He was very kind and attentive. He truly values customer service. They just opened up the second half of the dining room by adding more seating. It is a place that can easily accommodate a group. The restaurant was clean and the well taken care of. This is one of many visits to Antonio's!

Great value meals. All the meals are reasonably priced for a regular size meal, however these meals are larger the normal servings. The soup that comes with the meal is a large bowl, along with the side of pasta. The escarole soup was delicious. It has just enough spices and the touch of heat and it was very very good. I had the chicken parmigiana. It had two large pieces of chicken covered with mozzarella. The side of pasta was also very good. They serve the meals with homemade, hard crusted bread with a soft center. Off street parking and a great service staff.

Antonio's On Route 5 pizza and sub shop. They are so much more than pizza and subs, serving appetizers, salads, soups, also pasta, seafood, and eggplant entrées.They do have hot and cold subs, panini's, wraps and stuffed breads as well. Tonight I ordered two large pizzas. One all cheese, half bacon, the other all cheese half pepperoni, half sausage. They had a generous amount of great tasting toppings, but the pizza itself I would consider good, but nothing special. Since their homemade breads looked very good I think the next time I would try one of their subs.

Fantastic food, with delicious flavor, texture, and fresh ingredients. Portions leave enough for leftovers at a price you can't beat!

Olde World Brick Oven Apizza is a New Haven-style pizzeria that opened in North Haven, Connecticut…read morein 1995. It was founded by business partners Bill McCarthy and Joe Houde. McCarthy started making pizza at the age of 13. He received his training by working at local pizzerias such as La Bella's and Sorrento's. Once he reached adulthood, he started a career with the railroad. He worked with the railroad for several years until a physical injury caused him to retire. He went back to pizza-making when he started an eight-year stint at the popular Modern Apizza in New Haven. Eventually, he and Houde partnered up to open their own pizzeria. After 30 successful years, McCarthy and Houde decided to retire and sell the pizzeria. In April 2026, Olde World reopened under the ownership of business partners and chefs Robert Marcarelli, Jared Schulefand and Isarel Lopez. Marcarelli actually started his career working at Olde World, before going on to study at the Lincoln Culinary Institute. Schulefand started his career working as a busboy at Modern Apizza, before going on to study at Johnson and Wales University. He now owns Home Restaurant in Branford. Marcarelli & Schulefand both have their own restaurant consulting business (Pi Restaurant Consulting), and they co-own Supreme Seafood in North Branford, the Shanty in Branford, the Galley in Guilford, and NEBCO Kitchen in Branford. Lopez was a longtime pizzaiolo at Next Door Pizzeria in New Haven and nearly bought it before a deal fell through and it closed. In addition to New Haven-style thin crust apizza, Olde World also makes calzones, Italian entrees, pasta dishes, subs, stuffed breads and salads. I recently visited Olde World after they re-opened under the new ownership. I had eaten their pizza multiple times over the years and always loved it. How would the pizza taste now with the "new guys"? The new partners prepared a variety of different pies and dishes for my small group to sample. The classic "Mozzarella" (red sauce, mozzarella, pecorino) still tasted just as good as it ever did. In addition to the classic offerings, the partners have added some more modern twists to the menu, such as "Mashed Potato" (white, mashed potato, caramelized onions, bacon, garlic), "Crab Rangoon Pie" (white sauce, crème fraîche, imitation crab, sweet chili drizzle), and "Spring Fling" (asparagus, seacoast maitake mushrooms, ramp pesto, mozzarella, goat cheese, Szechuan chili honey). The latter (a special of the month) was my favorite of the tasting! We were also treated to some "Penne, Sausage & Broccoli Rabe" and "Burrata Salad" (asparagus, spicy capitol, herb marinated artichokes, tomato confit, baby greens, garlic crumb, balsamic truffle). Paired with some local Foxon Park sodas, we were treated to quite the feast! Not only is the food just as good as it ever was... it's even better now! I must tip my hat to our excellent hosts. I plan on coming back again and again!

There's about 8 booths- It's a bit on the small side but the food was fantastic. Hubby and I were born and raised in NYC. It's been so long we've had really good pizza. John and Steve brought out pie after pie. We had the plain, plain with grated cheese, tomato with fresh mozzarella, clam with bacon, mangia special, Stevie Gs apple pizza, mashed potato pizza. We brought in our homemade suppi and they put it on some of our pies. We also tried the eggplant Parmesan and garlic knots. The plain pies, mashed potato, and the mangia special were my favorites but really everything there was top notch. There is nothing that I wouldn't order again. The crust is nice and crunchy. Good char on it. Sauce was delicious - not sour like straight from a can. Toppings were better than I expected for a small pizza spot. Sausage was tasty. Mushrooms were fresh not tinned, fresh tomatoes and basil. Tons of clams on the pizza. Bacon was thick sliced and left almost whole. Eggplant was sliced thin. Generous with the toppings. Even better than their pizza- is their service. It was my first time meeting them and I felt like an old friend. They were so friendly, chatted with us, told us stories -- we really had a good time. The older gentleman who brought out the food and took away the empty trays was very thorough- checked in on us regularly. Mangia Apizza is easy to miss - connected to Vick's Cafe (really it's a bar). Stop in and grab a pizza. You won't be sorry. And if you want someone to talk your ears off - stop in and eat at a booth. I wish they were closer!!

"Desmond has a barrow in the marketplace Molly is the singer…read morein a band Desmond says to Molly, "Girl, I like your face" And Molly says this as she takes him by the hand" (Lennon and McCartney) Man oh man do we love our Italian markets and delis. And we sure found a good one in Hamden on Friday. We saw refrigerated cases full of pastas and raviolis, counters with trays of pizzas, showcases with trays of prepared foods like sausage and oeooers, eggplant rollatinis, and seafood marinara, a sandwich counter for cold cuts, and a baked goods counter. We narrowed our want list down to three very different items. We bought two slices of their sausage pizza, two garlic knots, and three eggplant rollatinis. The pizza was fantastic! Super thin crust, plenty (and I mean PLENTY) of cheese, a very good sauce and delicious sausage chunks. Oh, and the slices were enormous. We made a dinner out of the eggplant and garlic knots. The eggplant was sliced so thin, and was so soft and tender, it resembled lasagna noodles! The rollatinis were loaded with ricotta cheese and marinara sauce and it was a fantastic dish. We split the three rolls and let me tell ya, one and a half rolls were plenty for dinner. The garlic knots were ridiculously loaded with garlic, not teeny tiny shavings, but big hunks of garlic cloves. Needless to say, they were fantastic as well. Our total cost was $24.66, and Sapori threw in four complimentary slices of fresh Italian bread with our order. We really loved Sapori a lot.
