Lido's Restaurant & Pizzeria is an Italian restaurant and pizzeria that opened in Meriden, Connecticut in 1996. At Lidos's, handcrafted dishes embody the tradition of authentic Italian cuisine. Each dish is prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients that are sourced locally and imported from Italy's finest markets. The staff at Lido's have a passion for quality and keep a commitment to delivering flavorful meals that bring people together. The current owner of Lido's is chef and restaurateur consultant Favio Pillacela. Along with his brother and cousin, he also owns Serafino's Restaurant in Wallingford, Vespucci's Restaurant in Cheshire, and Favio's Trattoria in Wallingford. My family and I recently visited Lido's for lunch while we were spending the afternoon with friends. We had never been to Lido's before, but our friends recommended the restaurant. The menu consists of traditional Italian entrees, pizza, pasta dishes, seafood plates, steaks, meat dishes, salads, and various appetizers. My wife and I were really in the mood for pizza, so we ordered and shared the "Burratini" (burrata, garlic spinach, mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, basil pesto). We really enjoyed the balance of the fresh tomatoes, garlic spinach, pesto and the creaminess from the burrata. Delicious! From the Kids Menu, our older son had the "Personal Cheese Pizza" while our younger son had the "Penne Vodka". They were both very happy with their choices. Overall, we were very happy with our experience. Lido's certainly makes very good pizza, but we would be interested in trying some different Italian entrees on a future visit.

Lido's restaurant serves up Italian cuisine with old school style. Restaurant serves up pizza and pasta dishes. It has a full service bar. Ample private parking lot. I've tried this place a couple times and have had good dishes on all visits. Portions are not overwhelmingly large. Definitely not family style in my opinion. I enjoyed the shrimp chicken a la vodka on this trip. Oddly, they do not offer soup or salad with their dishes. So you have to pay extra for those items. The servers are friendly and very helpful with menu questions.

I have heard the pizza is very good although because of gluten and lactose intolerances I personally have not had it.

If you like New Haven style pizza, which is arguably the 'esemplare' of all pizza, then visiting The Little Rendezvous is a MUST visit if you live within 90-min. Plan a trip to visit some store you want to go to, a beach visit or whatever, just find a way to circle The Little Rendezvous into the trip! The crust is thin with a crackery-crunch, the sauce is at a another level and the mozz and roni are high-quality deliciousness! Rendezvous stands tall with any of the well known top-3 pizza joints in New Haven. Dave's score of 9.1 (if you are unaware of the reference, then pizza isn't your thing) is right on point, and I'd go as far as scoring it slightly higher at a 9.2 based on my visit. The building is something out of folklore. The building is all of about 20ft. wide, and when you enter, it is immediate, Steve (owner/chef) is all about the pizza. To be clear, most will consider Rendezvous to be take-out only. There is zero decor, less signs made with cardboard and sharpie notifying you that wait times of hours are real..... so be sure to call ahead. You walk past the most basic seating area of 3-4 small tables with bare walls, and then proceed to walk down an oddly long and narrow sloping hallway which leads you to the service counter/kitchen which houses the 130-year old oven! It's honestly something you could only imagine out of a movie...... the hole in the wall that is creating high-quality, delicious pizzas! Why or how you ask? The answer is simple, Steve! The guy clearly has a passion for making pizza and has dedicated his life to doing so. I met the 'man-the myth-the legend' on my visit, and he kindly even took the time to chat with me. Bucket-list item checked off! Overall score = 5.0!!!

We arrived early on, what I thought was off hours and ordered in person, the wait time was 4 hours. I don't live far so it was easy to come back. The dining area is tight and pretty basic, so plan on wooden bench in limited space if you are dining in. I would also recommend calling way in advance with your order. As far as pizza goes, I have had the opportunity to sample most of the high profile places and understand why this place deserves to be on the list. The crust is pretty fantastic and overall a really good pie. When we went, there was no line. The grab and go was super simple, cash only. Order ahead, plan accordingly, and enjoy.

We ordered a simple cheese pizza and a chicken cutlet sandwich. The pizza was fresh, melty cheese with tasty Italian spices and perfectly cooked crust, but wasn't anything special. There are many other pizzerias in the area so it comes down personal preference and price. The chicken cutlet sandwich was a decent size and delicious. We were happy with the portion sizes, quality, and price. Our total was about $23 and we had leftovers (this was for 2 people). We will likely order again and will think of this place if we plan to have pizza for a gathering.

I requested a pair of cheese slices, NY style according to its website, to go and after paying was ignored by one and all for too many minutes. Although they advertise on their website that a snack in the form of a tiny nugget of pizza would be offered, none was offered to me - boohoo. Finally one of the employees broke away from whatever he had been engaged in, took note of my order of which there was no others and placed the slices in the oven. Shortly thereafter the slices were properly reheated, boxed and handed to me with nary an apology or a smile offered. These were consumed in the car where both of us agreed the crust bordered on being tasteless and the toppings only fractionally better. This location, the owners third, has been in operation since 2008 so obviously they are doing something right though you could not prove it by me.

I'd driven pass Empire Pizza many times but this would be my first experience easting there. We ordered a large pizza with mushrooms and peppers, asking for the pizza to be made "light on the cheese" and the order was a pleasant surprise for both of us. I rate that experience slightly above average, 3.5 stars and determined that I'd visit again in the future. The second visit was with my uncle who had visited to help with some repairs and a pizza reward seemed appropriate. Our order was also mushrooms and peppers, but I didn't ask for any alteration to the cheese volume since I knew that my uncle would prefer more cheese and he had made the trip just to help me so I decided to see how this pizza would rate. Sadly, I found the pizza less exciting overall, barely average. BTW, the pizza isn't New Haven style pizza and is more of a local variation on NYC style pizza (which I prefer over New Haven style pizza). Based on the two visits I'd rate Empire Pizza three stars overall, IOW average. There's nothing wrong with average pizza, so this isn't intended as a slight in any way.
