Any time we are NEAR Grand Rapids we detour to pick up baked goods here. The crackers (ALL flavors) are simply the best in West Michigan. We are especially partial to the 3-cheese flavor which requires no accompaniment for enjoyment. Breads are perfectly done and deserving of "best in show" title. I have been here multiple times but it's always a pleasant experience. Definitely some of the best, freshest baked goods in the area and worth a visit! Check their social media for daily offerings, as they do change daily and are available until they're sold out. Easy street parking and right next to Martha's Vineyard, so it's a quick and easy stop for an impressive gift or treat. I recently snagged a variety of items and it was hard to not get one of everything. I'll definitely be back to try more, those giant cookies are calling me. The blueberry pie I snagged was so good, so glad I got the very last one! The crumble topping on it just made it. The chocolate cake ball was incredibly moist and decadent, but a perfect size so as to not overdo it. They offered lots of varieties of bread, cookies, pastries, muffins, croissants etc. COVID-19 details: They are allowing only 2 customers in the store at a time and customers must wear masks. (So when it's busy you likely will see a line outside.) They have signs on the windows with the items available so you can be prepared when you enter. Nantucket Baking Company is a small but mighty bakery right by Lyon Street Cafe and Martha's Vineyard. This trifecta on the corner of Lyon and Union Streets makes this area a great one-stop place for any dinner party, picnic, breakfast, coffee, pastry, or general food needs! I've been to Nantucket many times over the past several years and have never had a bad item. I particularly like the black and white cookies, but haven't seen them the past couple of times I've stopped in. My most recent visit was to get a couple pączki, which is a Polish filled doughnut that's traditionally made on Fat Tuesday. They are popular in Grand Rapids and on the East side of the state, and Nantucket makes their own delicious versions! The filling flavors vary a bit year to year. I chose chocolate and yuzu buttercream this time. The pączki are huge and definitely big enough to split! They aren't as sickly sweet as other store bought versions, and the pastry was light and airy. The buttercream was rich and thick, with a light citrus flavor. I would highly recommend calling ahead to reserve an order of pączki as they are very popular and likely to sell out on Fat Tuesday each year. I also want to note that the employees at Nantucket work around the clock to get these delicious pastries made for this occasion and there's no need to be rude or impatient with them as they're managing the line, many large orders, and the phone ringing off the hook as soon as they open on Fat Tuesday. In addition to pączki, they also have many regular staple items including bread, cookies, scones, pies, croissants, desserts, muffins, cakes, and tortes! They do custom orders for weddings and events. alright i'm seeing a lot of cake reviews but let me take a minute to talk about the bread. i love sourdough bread. i love sourdough bread and i love getting it from a bakery. i don't know how i've gone 22 years of my life not getting bread from somewhere other than a grocery store but now that i've moved out of my college town maybe i'm becoming an adult? not to mention there are so many more options and experiences in Grand Rapids than kalamazoo. I love the sanfransico sourdough which is my bread of choice for most things and especially grilled cheese. but I recently tried a sunflower flaxseed bread (only made on mondays) and it was moist and dense and exactly the type of bread I want for a good sandwich. If you check their website you can see the bread schedule. I did try their cake balls as well and i loved those. like a cake pop but bigger and not on a stick. they also have vegan cake options i saw once one a menu so that is very exciting. maybe next i'll try a cake because of all these cake reviews on here! read more

Beautiful cakes that aren't too sweet, but maybe I'm just biased because one was for my Engagement Party, and the other was for my Husband's cousin's 21st birthday...nope, not biased, they're just great cakes. I have not physically been inside of Nantucket in a long, long while, but I have been able to enjoy their cakes thanks to my SIL! For my Engagement Party earlier this year, she ordered my husband and I a Vanilla Cake with Strawberry Filling. I guess we were supposed to get the cake on the actual day of our Engagement Party (peep my other SIL's review down below), but I'm glad she forgot to pick it up, because there was no way I would have wanted to share, and I'm not even sure that I would have been able to snag a piece at the party. I am not a huge fan of sweets, so I tend to avoid to cakes and cookies, but Nantucket bakes cakes unlike the rest. The cake retained its moist consistency even days after sitting in the fridge, and I really like that they don't make their frosting extremely sweet. I think this may have been the first time I ate a piece of cake in its entirety; I usually only eat the cake and scoop the frosting onto my husband's plate for him to finish. My Engagement Cake came with REAL roses, complete with greenery. I would have liked to dried and kept them for keepsake purposes, but the other half vetoed me. #notmad #actuallymad The second time we had the pleasure of eating a Nantucket Cake was for my Husband's Cousin's 21st birthday. My SIL ordered a Chocolate Cake with Raspberry Filling and same thing; the cake was moist and the frosting was the perfect amount of sweetness (Courvoisier shooter not included). This was my second visit to Nantucket and it was just as good as the first. My partner is vegan so it's always nice to have a place to take her for treats. The Polish Rye is great! I first visited this bakery in East Town right before Covid started in March 2020. We had some bakery and went next door for some coffee. I can't remember what we actually ordered because we smashed it within minutes! This review is more about their CAKES! We normally order special occasion cakes from Amway because they don't make the frosting too sweet but it's kinda pricey. My sister-in-law had had the cakes from Nantucket so she ordered one to celebrate my brother's engagement. I reminded her to order the cake a week beforehand when I was on a trip to California. She said she got it . Fast forward to the dinner...I whispered, "Where's the cake?" She looked at me like "WHAT CAKE?!?" And I was like..."THE CAKE for our brother's engagement." She forgot to pick up THE CAKE. Next day, she brought over the cake and it was AMAZING! It was still moist and the frosting wasn't too sweet. It was so good. I told her I'll have to remind her everyday to pick up the cake the next time she order one. And guess what? We need another cake this weekend!!! This was the first time I've gone to Nantucket - I've had it during events or while at work but this was my first visit into the shop. OH MAN. It smelled SO GOOD inside! I got this awesome spinach and goat cheese bialy - it reminded me of a pizza. I thought the flavors were delicious and the bread itself was buttery and salty. I also picked up a chocolate croissant (which I didn't get a pic of but was equally as good). I will be back to try other items one by one...how can you not?! Nantucket bakery is next to the gourmet grocery store on union and lion and not only do they have the most delicious breads, breakfast pastries and goodies, they have a amazing baker! I LOVE to come to Nantucket baking on a weekend morning for a breakfast treat and to pick up bread for the week, paired with a trip to the Lyon street coffee next door. They have a large selection of pastries both savory and sweet on display. My favorites are the croissants and the danishes. There's something about a gooey cheese filling and light puffy perfect flaky pastry. The pastries are large! For sourdough "city loafs" a nice tip is you can get two different shapes, round or long so that the long shape has more uniformly shaped pieces once sliced. HELL YES get your ass in to Nantucket. Forget about mass produced grocery store wonder bread and change your life to the real, fresh ingredients of the nan! I go to the location on Lyon right behind Martha's Vineyard and always have a loaf of their five grain, garlic parm, rye, polish rye, etc. etc. in my fridge. It reminds me of the real neighborhood bakeries found in Latvia and other travels to Europe. Worth the trip and effort for sure. Also have great muffins, croissants, I've even tried their bagels (which isn't their specialty) and the herb & sea salt was a legit winner --reminded me more of a true NYC bagel unlike the HUGE, too fluffy bagels found in Michigan--I've found NYC bagels to be tighter, chewy (in good way), more dense and a better accompaniments to a good "schmear" something from Russ & Daughters (if you don't know it, google it). As the saying goes, once you try Nantucket you won't be going back to those grocery store breads. read more

I found this place on the Grand Rapids food trail map (check it out online if you're looking for where to eat in GR!) This. is. an. amazing. bakery. It reminds me of my favorite bakery of all time in New Jersey. Wow. Their offerings were incredible- from bread to danishes, croissants, pies, galettes, scones, cookies, biscotti, quiche... truly name it and it's probably there. No fancy drinks or coffee here- just baked goods!! There is a coffee shop next door that we went in for coffee after though. My husband and I got the following: blueberry galette, cinnamon roll thing (cinnamon sugar croissant dough basically), bacon and cheddar scone, cranberry walnut scone, ham and cheese quiche, and a cherry danish. Cinnamon roll croissant thing - amazing. tastes like a crispy, airy croissant topped with cinnamon sugar. Can't go wrong here. Bacon and cheddar scone - tasted good. I'm a pretty big scone snob so I can be very picky. I'd give this one a 7/10. I like scones that have a good triangular shape (like their cranberry walnut) because the triangular edges help in creating toasty, golden edges. These edges were rounder so the scone was overall less toasty and golden. Flavor was delicious though. Crumb was slightly a little dense for my liking but again, on the better side of the "scones I've tried" spectrum. Cranberry almond scone - AMAZING. would absolutely recommend. Golden and crispy on top so that when you pinch a chunk off it's flaky and delicious. Perfect crumb inside. Topped with coarse sugar as any sweet scone should be. Slivered almonds to create perfect, thin crunchy inclusions of almond in every bite. Yes. This is my scone. Ham and cheese quiche - yum. Flaky, crisp crust. Filling very flavorful. Small (kind of muffin sized) so good for one serving and to eat it with your hands. Cherry danish - delicious. filling was so well done. I've had some danishes made with crispy croissant dough but this one is not like that. It's a bready dough danish. But it's very light and airy, really good. Reminds me a bit of a donut. Haven't had my blueberry galette yet but I am convinced it won't disappoint based on the rest of my experience here. We loved it so much here that we had to personally go back and compliment them in person. Definitely recommend going here for good bread and pastries. read more

The cake, my gosh, the cake. I could not see how to edit an existing review, and am too old to bother googling, so I hope this doesn't replace the original. We got the salted caramel cake to celebrate the birthdays of me and my daughter. I wasn't confident a puny 6 inch round would suffice, but golly. The cake is quite heavy, but not too dense. Moist (ugh that word), not over sweetened. Perfect texture. Layered internally with salted caramel, robed in creamy frosting, ringed around the top with more caramel. Tremendous flavor in a small package, a marvel of baking and organic magic, maybe? The 6 will be plenty for 8 people I reckon. And: scones! Not in the cake, but we got a few as lead in. read more

LOVED this bakery. When you walk in, the shop smells like heaven and everything there looks absolutely delightful. I got the apple danish, chocolate chip scone, and the *new* sticky toffee cake. The apple danish STOLE THE SHOW and that will definitely be a staple for me from now on whenever I go. I was kind of disappointed with the toffee cake because it looked so yummy, but it was way too sweet for me. Even my boyfriend that loves sweet things said it was too sweet for him. With all that said, it still had a great flavor so for all of yall who love cakes that are too sweet, this cake is for you. It reminded me of an extremely sweet pecan pie, if that rings any bells.
