    valentine's whoopie pie

I went to Mokaya recently to finally try their desserts! I had seen so many of their posts throughout social media for YEARS. I decided to stop in and was completely blown away. I personally don't eat many chocolates, bonbons, truffles, or similar products so I was elated to find out that they had tons of baked goods and other options. The staff was extremely patient, knowledgable, and helpful while I took forever to figure out what I wanted. Everything in the store is not only beautiful to look at but also delicious. I ended up getting 3 of the Valentine's Day themed baked goods: chocolate fudge cake, whoopie pie, and brownie. I was expecting the desserts to be extremely rich and dense but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the desserts weren't too sweet nor too dense. The brownie was really fudgey and thicker than many I've had, but had so much flavor. The whoopie pie was something totally new to me and it was so fun and yummy! The cake was delicious and I felt so bad eating it. But I did buy it because it was a way to show love to myself for the holiday. I highly recommend going to Mokaya! I plan on going back to try the rest of their baked goods and I can't wait for it to be warmer to try some of their ice cream.

Wow delish! You walk into Mokaya and instantly feel like you are at Willy wonkas chocolate factory. Seriously, I need that scent in a candle. Service was prompt, friendly and helpful! The carrot cake was amazing- we are carrot cake lovers and this definitely tops the list. Perfectly moist cake layers. I've never had a toffee like crunch on top, but it was a welcome surprise. The cookie cheese cake at first felt a bit too one- textured, but we realized we were not getting the crunchy cookie crust and this definitely changed our minds. The caramel is light and adds an extra layer to this dessert. So far, we have only tried the Himalayan salt caramel (AMAZING, if you love caramel, you need this), turtle (so cute, exactly what you'd expect), but we can't wait to try the rest!

Absolutely delectable chocolate shop with items that are worth the price. All of the chocolate truffles that I tried were delicious, but the cardamom and orange blossom was one of my favorites. The outer dark chocolate shell is thin and the perfect package for the filling. They include a "cheat sheet" with your chocolates to help you remember which flavors you selected. They also offer a handful of vegan options, but they seem to go quick, so snap them up when you have the chance! Can't wait to try more selections in the future!

I found this unique chocolate shop after eating at Winchester and I'm so glad I stopped in. I have never seen anything like this and was very impressed by how creative the art was. There were a variety of unique truffles and bonbons to choose from including other sweet treats and gifts. Aside from the art, the truffles I got were delicious. - Honey lavender (Dark chocolate) - Mint Mocha (Dark chocolate) - Cotton candy hedgehog (white chocolate) - Turtle (Carmel and pecan)

We LOVED Mokaya. Such an underrated spot that produces artesian chocolates which are more art than food. However, also absolutely delicious! One of the owners were there to serve us and answered any questions we had. Such a cute place and a great location on Wealthy.

This place has been on my list since I moved to Grand Rapids a couple years back and I'm so glad I finally had a good reason to go check it out! My mom was coming into town for her birthday and I immediately knew I wanted to get her some treats from here! I placed an order online through their website around 3 in the afternoon and went to pick it up around 5! Super easy and smooth process. I ordered an assorted box of chocolates which comes with bonbons and truffles. Literally so beautiful!! Very impressed. I also ordered a birthday cake. They have "mini" cakes for $10 and it's the perfect size for 2 people (or just for yourself) and was super tasty. They have a couple different chocolate bars to choose from and I picked out a coffee dark chocolate one for my mom as well. Of course I had to get a snack for myself so I went for the Whoopie Pie. So delicious! I think everything is priced super fair for what you are getting (handmade chocolates and baked goods!!) and their location is in a great neighborhood. Can't wait to try more items from here in the future.

If you are looking for local quality chocolate goodies, Mokaya is the place to visit! I received a box of Mokaya chocolates as a gift earlier this year, and loved them. Eating the chocolate made me want to go to the physical location to take a look (and if you want to look, keep in mind that they are closed on Monday and Sunday). Mokaya changes up their chocolates, which makes it fun. The shop was small and intimate, but there was plenty to see. They had so many different assortments of chocolates. My favorite were the ones that were shaped as cobblestones (as you can see in the pictures), turtles, and frogs. Everything is made by hand in Grand Rapids. The flavors are so unique - the time I went there, there were chocolate goodies like like raspberry caramel, white chocolate vanilla latte truffles, dark chocolate coconut truffles, cherry key lime bonbon, etc. The coatings to some of the chocolates were so beautifully colored. The salespeople even let me try a sample of their spicy dark chocolate (that was in a shape of a lip), which was so good. The spiciness kicked in but was not overwhelming. I could still taste the dark chocolate flavor. Their chocolate is rich and not too sweet. Each chocolate is perfectly sized so it won't feel too thick. You can pick and choose chocolates and they will put it into a cute box that has dividers inside. You have the option to create the following truffle boxes: 2-piece box ($6.00) 4-piece box ($12.00) 6-piece box ($17.00) 12-piece box ($34.00) It is a bit pricey, but definitely worth it. And they make excellent gifts!

Brown butter toffee cookie Brownie Salted caramel & classic hot coco That brownie was just somethin else. Best "gooey and fudgey" brownie I've had. Cookie was also amazing, I'm glad to see brown butter get some more love :) the toffee flavor really came through nicely. I loved both of the hot coco's but I think I preferred the salted caramel one. Bit more of a unique flavor to it. Gotta come back here for more stuff, their cakes and tarts looked heavenly. They have so many different baked goods and candies here (including packaged goods that would work well as a gift). The staff really seems to enjoy what they were doing and explained some of their options to me. Really cool people and place. Coming back here again!

So.Good. From beverages, to baked goods, "regular" to vegan options, Mokaya is great! The peanut butter cup was solid on the outside (until I cut it ). The inside was a mix of creamy peanut butter with peanut butter crumbles. It was so rich in texture and flavor. The outside chocolate shell was just as delicious. I could only eat half the first go of it because of how rich and delicious it was. The toffee cookie was also purchased. Tried a nibble of it. At first, you feel like you've just bit into a regular chocolate chip cookie, BUT THEN the toffee flavor and texture hits. Another great creation from Mokaya. If nothing else, walk in for the smell alone

My friend gave me a gift card to Mokaya for my birthday this year, so I stopped in recently. It's a little overwhelming because they have so many delicious looking things! The owner was there and he was super helpful - he gave lots of great recommendations and told me which were his favorites. I got a six piece bon bon and an ice cream sandwich. The bon bons are all so beautiful - like works of art and just as delicious as they are pretty! I was really impressed. The ice cream sandwiches are offered seasonally and I honestly didn't even know they had them - I got the basic B to try - brown butter chocolate chunk cookies with vanilla bean ice cream, dipped in dark chocolate. It was so good! The flavors may be "basic" but this ice cream sandwich is anything but - high quality ingredients and perfect textures make it a 10/10 for me. I actually went back inside after enjoying my sandwich and bought the Cardi B for Nate. I didn't think i'd like it as much because I'm not a huge fan of snickerdoodles or coffee, but it was AMAZING. The toffee flavor is a little strong but I loved it. I even went back a couple weeks later and bought more ice cream sandwiches - the John Lemon is fruity and delicious, with raspberry preserves and meringue in the filling. I thought it would be overly sweet, but it was definitely perfection. It's my favorite of the ones I've tried! I highly recommend Mokaya for all your chocolate needs. They rotate their flavors seasonally and often have delicious collections like beer or cocktail inspired truffles, as well as vegan options. Great place!

My friend got this little box of chocolate truffles for me as a gift! It was absolutely adorable and so delicious. It's nicely packaged and comes with a brochure to tell you what flavor everything is. The color of the truffles didn't match the picture exactly but figured out that it was the white chocolate ginger lime truffle and dark chocolate orange passion fruit truffle. Both were wonderful! It was just a small enough bite that satisfied your chocolate craving but now I definitely want to go back and try even more! I can't quite say how much it cost per item as it was a gift, but I definitely feel like it's going to be a worthwhile place to stop for a nice little treat.

The staff were super friendly, and there's actually a large selection of items inside including made to order ice cream sandwiches. They have a large candy counter as well as tons of pre-packaged items that make perfect gifts. I chose some caramel corn (excellent) as well as a prepackaged box of assorted creams (also delicious). The ambiance is that of an old fashioned candy store, and it's full of wonderful smells! Definitely visit if you're in the area and have a sweet tooth!

I wanted a sweet treat after dinner at Ato Sushi recently, and I remembered loving the hot fudge at Kilwins, so that's where we ended up... again! Nate and I were greeted right away as we walked in and told that we could sample the ice cream. The employees were very kind and patient, as they have a lot of flavors to choose from, including several I'd never seen before. They make their own ice cream, which is fun since we have a lot of Hudsonville ice cream in this area (nothing wrong with that! It's just nice to see some different options sometimes). I got a single scoop of the berry pie flavor, which is vanilla ice cream with swirls of strawberry and blueberry, and pie crust pieces mixed in. Yum! I added the decadent hot fudge and was so happy. Nate got the praline pecan and really liked it. The total for our two cups was $15 with tip, so definitely pricey for ice cream, but worth it for a treat for me every once in a while.
