Had walked past the ice cream shop all week while visiting and decided I was in need of a sweet treat before heading to the airport. Kilwins had a lot of flavor choices and options like sundaes and malts. But when I saw my favorite flavor, Blue Moon, I knew I was getting a scoop of that. It was delicious, just as I expected. When I happened to stop in, it wasn't a busy time, so there weren't many staff around, so it took a minute to get served, but just a minor inconvenience. Definitely would recommend this ice cream shop in the square. read more

This a cool sweets and candy store in Grand Rapids. It is downtown and was only a few steps from my hotel. The staff were super friendly, and there's actually a large selection of items inside including made to order ice cream sandwiches. They have a large candy counter as well as tons of pre-packaged items that make perfect gifts. I chose some caramel corn (excellent) as well as a prepackaged box of assorted creams (also delicious). The ambiance is that of an old fashioned candy store, and it's full of wonderful smells! Definitely visit if you're in the area and have a sweet tooth! read more

I went to update my review for Kilwins and realized that I went back almost exactly a year after posting my original review - and got the exact same thing. Ha! I wanted a sweet treat after dinner at Ato Sushi recently, and I remembered loving the hot fudge at Kilwins, so that's where we ended up... again! Nate and I were greeted right away as we walked in and told that we could sample the ice cream. The employees were very kind and patient, as they have a lot of flavors to choose from, including several I'd never seen before. They make their own ice cream, which is fun since we have a lot of Hudsonville ice cream in this area (nothing wrong with that! It's just nice to see some different options sometimes). I got a single scoop of the berry pie flavor, which is vanilla ice cream with swirls of strawberry and blueberry, and pie crust pieces mixed in. Yum! I added the decadent hot fudge and was so happy. Nate got the praline pecan and really liked it. The total for our two cups was $15 with tip, so definitely pricey for ice cream, but worth it for a treat for me every once in a while. read more

Was on my way into a coffee shop and saw this place right next to it so I had to take a detour! The smell when I opened the door....OMG YES!!!! It's an ice cream place but they have a bunch of specialty chocolate and other items. I would have gotten ice cream but 1. I needed coffee, and 2. It was WAY too expensive. So instead I treated myself to a small chocolate. I went for a peanut butter, white chocolate, crispy rice covered in dark chocolate candy. Was small and cost $1.99. Definitely not worth that price in size but I guess the flavor made up for that. The flavor of the dark chocolate on the outside was perfect; the peanut butter flavor on the inside wasn't overpowering and was delicious. Going there once was enough for me tho cause it's way too expensive. But if someone else wants to pay...... Only took off one star cause of the price. read more

Really nice service and staff. As soon as we walked inside it smelled like delicious fudge. They had a very wide variety of fudge and chocolate flavors. My favorite is the peanut butter one. It did not take long for us to get our drinks, we all ordered hot cocoa. It was mediocre, but everything else is delish read more

This Kilwins gets four stars because the staff is awesome. Every time I go in I am greeted with big smiles and waves. They answer all of my questions even though I almost always get a classic flavor. There is a 10% discount with your student ID. read more

Fantastic! Just fantastic! Great ice cream, wonderful candies , creamy fresh fudge and more to satisfy the sweet tooth. Extremely clean and very pleasing to the eye. Not a smudge on a glass case and all smells are free. The staff was wonderful and courteous. Patience and suggestions are the staffs demeanor. A great place to stop by and take in the killings experience! A friend and me look for one in every city we go! Thank you Kilwins for upping the bar on ice cream! Bought some treats to take home to office and family - taffy and some "sea foam." Service was great. A nice young person handled my purchase without having me wait in the counter line high was great! Sea foam was not really what I was expecting, but everyone liked it nonetheless. Taffy was also tasty. read more

When you need to feed your sugar low, you won't be disappointed if you go here! Good ice cream and decent fudge, but seems like they should keep the fudge air tight some how. We got a couple bricks of fudge and a lot of it gets hard quick. Love the double peanut butter ice cream. read more

Well, it's a chain, but has quality deserts. Kind of on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for because the quality is very high. My favorite is the fudge, and I prefer the awesome peanut butter, but they have many flavors. The ice cream flavors are equally delicious, and I have many favorites there, too. But this week, the raspberry sorbet has been calling me, more than once. read more

My boyfriend and I had Kilwins while in Florida and couldn't wait to try Kilwins again. When we found out there was a Kilwins in Grand Rapids we had to go! Last time I had chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream and I had it again. By far the best ice cream I've ever had. Creamy and decadent. Huge chunks of chocolate chips and fresh cookie dough. It was about $6 for my dish of ice cream, about the same price as Coldstone. My boyfriend also picked out an assortment of truffles and chocolates. It's a specialty chocolate shop so all the truffles were about $31.99/LB. The chocolates are premium hand made so that's how you get the price. Quality is top notch. I would much rather get Kilwins chocolates for Valentines days rather than ghiradelli, just sayin. The hazelnut truffles are my favorite. Can't wait to go back again soon. read more

Quite the assortment, but the prices are just outlandish. They offer small samples of their fudge, which is delicious. I decided to buy some truffles to take home. 8 small truffles cost me $13 yikes. The staff was all younger women, all very sweet and willing to answer any questions. The place was very clean, but prices could be displayed a bit better. read more

We loved Kilwins! So many treats to choose from and a variety of fudge and caramel apples. We didn't get ice cream because it was a little pricey but they had quite a few options for that as well! We stopped here everyday on vacation and got salted caramel covered Oreos, chocolate covered pretzels and a salted caramel apple (which they cut up for me since we were staying at a hotel - much appreciated!) read more

If you're ready for some unbelievably good ice cream, this is the place. We have a Kilwins near me in Geneva, IL so I knew the second I saw the Kilwins sign in Grand Rapids that we were in for a treat. Kilwins serves the very best ice cream and they even hand-craft delicious chocolates and fudge. We stopped in for a delicious ice cream treat (I believe I had black cherry), but I love all the candies they make right in from of your eyes. They have seating indoors and on an outside patio when the weather's nice. Definitely stop in if you've got a sweet tooth! read more

Going in shop got my sweet tooth going. However our malts took forever to make and they didn't have mint chocolate chip . The fudge was very very good and the end product that I got (Kilwin's mud) was definitely very good. read more

Excellent goodies and customer service. Thanks Jason and Quatasia for being patient and most of all attentive to our needs.

Very disappointed today. Treated myself to Kilwins for first time in a year. Courteous staff as always, but the prices are ridiculous. 25 dollars for a bag of candy corn that was stale. I won't go back. read more

Watch your step!! This is the note on the door & what you see immediately when you enter the store. They have a weird little step down, step up when you walk in the door. Kilwin's is great - yummy desserts that aren't cheap!!! The sea salt caramel fudge is a new one Ihaven't tried before, thought it was good. The turtles are yummy! Great location in the McKay Tower downtown, it lends a more touristy appeal to downtown which is nice. Hope it does well in this location!! read more

No. Save yourself from the overpriced tourist trap. Ice cream was not very good, but by the price you would think they made it the night before carefully in the back. Between the messy lobby and the dirty floors, I'm not sure it's a sanitary backdrop for a good time. read more

Nice little chocolate and ice cream shop, good caramel corn. Pleasant staff, a couple of outdoor tables.

I will echo what Amy M. says -- watch your step! I almost broke my neck leaving because I was too focused on my ice cream. The staff has been very friendly the two or three times we've been in, and are nice about giving samples of the ice cream to help you decide what you want. The portions are big (a single is PLENTY) and they are nice about splitting a single into two different kinds of ice cream. The ice cream is delish, but not cheap for sure. read more

I ordered chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine's Day on Monday and was told they would be ready for pick up as soon as they opened Friday. I went in 4 hours after opening and the order was not ready. They rushed to complete it. I gave the strawberries to my girlfriend and she noticed that the order was wrong (white chocolate instead of dark chocolate). She also noticed that 2 of the 6 strawberries were molded. Having ordered from the Big Rapids Kilwin's in the past and having excellent service there, I was extremely disappointed with this one. I will not be returning. Also, the hours found on the Kilwin's website are inaccurate. read more

Went in to get a treat for my wife, but they were all out of the caramel turtle apples. The cook on duty took a normal pecan covered apple and layered some chocolate on it, then asked me if my wife liked a little or a lot. When I answered a lot, he REALLY layered it on. They went out of the way to get me what I wanted, and were polite, quick, and very professional. read more

Just stopped here and was astounded by how overpriced the ice cream was. $4 for a kids size and $6 for a single scoop! Prices were not listed anywhere either. Maybe they have to charge extra for being in a high rent area, but I think it would be appropriate to display prices so you don't get shocked at the register and feel trapped because you're already holding the goods. Compared to other excellent ice cream places I have enjoyed, this ice cream was good, but priced high. read more

Very good ice cream, caramel, and chocolate covered ANYTHING. I would give the s'mores a pass because they do not contain nearly enough marshmallow, but everything else gets two enthusiastic thumbs up.
