I LOVE this place! My coworker and I will stalk their Instagram to see what delicious treats they have that day before we stop in. Their dessert varies and will change everyday so I recommend following their instagram @thecakabakery to stay updated on what they have in shop. They also vegan treats! Look at how absolutely beautiful the baked goods at Cakabakery are! I finally stopped by during ShopHop to pick up a sweet. I wish I could've tried everything, especially their house-made poptarts. It was so tough to choose just one but I had to go with the whoopie pie. It just looked too good to pass up. The chocolate "cookies" had an absolutely incredible texture. It was the most delicate crumb on a baked good that I've tried (just look at the close up). Rich cocoa flavor with a candied peppermint aftertaste. Reminded me of an Andes Mint. Update: Peter, one of the co-owners, reached out to us in both an email and called my husband to apologize. Peter reviewed our emails and talked with the staff from that day and said he found multiple mistakes that were made through the entire process. Like I said before we are human and mistakes happen. While the initial response to this situation wasn't great, we were ultimately given a genuine apology, a full refund, and even asked to come into the shop for a face to face apology. The desserts were delicious and our cake was to die for. Their flavors are unique and super yummy. If you have an event or even a wedding, at least go into the bakery and do a taste testing. Hi there!!! I had my wedding on Friday, June 22nd and it was absolutely amazing. Everything went perfectly except our cake vendor, Cakeabakery, which messed up royally. We ordered for a cake, 6 dozen cupcakes and 6 dozen cookies that were listed as delivery on our contract. My now husband got a call around 2:15 the day of the wedding from Cakeabakery asking if we were picking up our order and they close at 3:00 pm. Luckily we had some amazing family members rush over there and pick up our order. When we got the order at the venue, we were missing 6 dozen cupcakes. My sisters were calling the now closed bakery to let them know they were on the way to collect the other 1/3 of our order. Upon arrival, Cakeabakery did not have our cupcakes. So my sisters had to collect whatever cupcakes that were left. One of the workers gave my sister a $100 of the $150 delivery fee. We received an email this morning from I'm assuming the owner. He 1. Did not acknowledge the missing cupcakes, 2. Take ownership for their mistakes or apologize on their end and claim it was a confusion, 3. Asked for the money back I understand mistakes happen, people are human. We paid for 6 dozen cupcakes and did not receive our order! I also have multiple emails stating they would be delivered and they even sent an updated contract with the delivery fee. I would hate for this to happen to anyone else. Sometimes you will find they are no longer taking orders for certain weeks a month+ in advance on their social media page. This happens when big holidays and wedding season is in full swing. I visited the West location in Holland but there isn't a separate Yelp page for that. I saw Jason, the owner's, episode of Cupcake Wars so I've stopped in a couple times. Unfortunately their Holland location is so hidden from the road I worry about their business. I don't see any marketing besides an active Instagram account which is how I found them on the explore page. They are where Second Floor Bakery used to be off Lakewood. The cupcakes should probably be bigger for the price but they are tasty and we don't have a ton of cupcake bakeries in town. The lemon could stand to have more lemon flavor. When I get a lemon dessert I want it to be *LEMON* not just lemon. The cake itself was perfect consistency. The chocolate chip cookies are spot on! Soo much chocolate in every bite and just the right amount of dough flavor comes through in the center. Vanilla on vanilla, strawberry champagne, chocolate/caramel and carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Vanilla was less than exciting, the dog stole the chocolate one off the table, carrot cake is not my thing and strawberry champagne was fantastic. Either way my whole point is this isn't what we wanted to try. Maybe it was a miscommunication, but I RE READ our emails of me saying we wanted lemon/banana and they basically gave us the flavors the storefront was selling that day. Submitted an order request for my sons birthday party a month prior to his party date. Was ghosted by the staff at the establishment in Grand Rapids. Called today to ask if there was any progress update and was informed that it is wedding season and that they "did not want to make the cake" for a birthday party. The order request was for 25 cookies and 25 cupcakes as well and was told they could not complete any part of the order and that if I'd like I could come pick up a vanilla cake or carrot cake but it's first come first serve. What a joke. I think I have been subconsciously not stopping in here because I thought this location would never live up to the old windmill they moved out of... however I decided to order up some cookies designed for a Yelp event with the Yelp logo on them. I am so glad I inquired and placed my order because the process was so simple. When I went to pick up the cookies, it was a unique entry in that you had to walk downstairs to get to the bakery area for customers. Not quite a unique and fun as the windmill location but still a different fun way to walk in. It was night and light and white in there, some places to sit if you wanted to eat your baked good there. The selection was superb with some good classics as well as some delicious sounding unique combos! The cookies were shown to me that I ordered before paying and they looked phenomenal. I got my own cake toppers from amazon and brought them to the bakery and told them I needed a Goofy and Pete cake (per my sons request). The cake was beautiful and delicious. I totally forgot to take photo but it was just perfect. I brought the rest to work the next day and all of the doctors and nurses were raving on how great it was.
