Gluten free and incredible tasting cupcakes, cookies, bars...everchanging delectables. They serve Rowster coffee. Their coffee is divine. This location has two small tables and wifi. There is frequent patron traffic, which may be distracting; faint music and a slight breeze from the outdoors with those coming and going. Mind you, it consistently smells like sugary goodness. This may be extremely difficult for those ravenous snackers. Street-side parking that is metered or parking within a block or two in local neighborhoods. Sidenote: a friend of mine has been buying Jason's cakes since before he opened his first retail store. She buys cakes from no other and raves of his cake and popcake creations. read more

So I have been trying to make my way here for awhile. The thing is I work 9:30-6 and they are only open during those hours & I don't live close enough to just go on Saturday. Or so I thought. Now that I have been I see a trip there is totally worth it. It was an interesting experience for me here to be honest. I read recently they now have Hummingbird cupcakes which are my favorite. When I walked in I didn't see them out so I was a bit bummed & asked if they have them on certain days. The girl said they have some in the back & could frost them for me if I wanted. Dude, score! So the sign in the case said $2.50 or a dozen for $14. I had 3 other picked out so I said to give me 3 Hummingbird. Then I got a chocolate chunk & a no bake cookie which were $2 ea. I got out to my car & suddenly thought "why was that $25?" Adding $14 + $4 was $18 to me. So I grab my phone to look up my emailed receipt. I was charged for 7 cupcakes instead of 6 and apparently most of the cupcakes I chose were more than $2.50. I would have gotten 5 instead of 6 cupcakes if I had known it wouldn't be the $14 but the individual price not have changed my mind on what flavors to get. I just think it would have been nice to see that there were different prices. Anyhoo, I went back in and the girl working the register apologized & I just chose another of the regular priced cupcakes since I was charged for an extra. So onto the goods. I am going to start off with the double vanilla. Tat was the extra one I picked when I went back in because I was overcharged and she just handed it to me so it wasn't in a box like the others. I had more errands to run so it got a bit dried out & I ended up throwing it out after a bite. The Hummingbird. I was disappointed. It was the least flavorful and not as moist as the others. I have really high Hummingbird standards. :) The chocolate merlot was fantastic. My sister loved it too and she is a tad anti booze in baked goods. I think she was surprised that she liked it so much. The banana peanut butter was really good too. Really gook pb frosting! Great flavor overall. The no bake cookie was just great, the chocolate chunk was quite fantastic. I spent days thinking about it & can't wait to go back for more!! read more

I placed an order via their website 3-4 weeks prior to my son's birthday party. After 2 weeks with no response, I called the bakery. They were very nice on the phone and requested I submit the order to their personal email. Submitted through personal email and again no response. Sent a follow up email this week, to check on status and they said they texted me to confirm the order. I never received the text on either number provided to them, nor did they call, ever. They then let me know they would be unable to make the cake at all. They said, 'we will def get you next time.' Rest assured, they will 'def' not get my order next time. I am in love with cupcakes! I just moved here and have been trying to find my new cupcake place! Well I have found it in Cakabakery! I absolutely love their delicious cupcakes! They are the perfect consistency and balance of cake and icing! My boyfriend is obsessed with their cookies and he's not even a big sweets guy. I have ordered from them during the covid-19 stay at home order many times. I love them so much I called over 150 times on Saturday, just to get some of their mother's day specials but sadly never got through. I wasn't mad or upset because I knew that they only have one phone and hundreds of people calling wanting their yummy treats! New to GR and needed a new family bakery in our new city. It's a bit of a hike from where we are but it's more than worth it. The place itself is gorgeous in a very beautiful neighborhood and building. The inside is very unique, clean, and smells amazing. The place is very busy on Saturdays which made us confident to order our daughters birthday cake without buying a cupcake first to try. We were very impressed with that taste and look of the cake we got. It was delicious and gorgeous! The employees were very kind and extremely helpful even when busy and that is so huge to us; good customer service. They've rightfully earned new loyal customers from us! I came all the way to Grand Rapids, MI (My hometown) from Los Angeles, CA to throw my best friend's baby shower. This event was very important to me, and I wanted everything to be perfect. To start, when I came to pick the cake up there was a man who was assisting a man and a women, perhaps about a wedding cake, I'm not sure...but he gave a look of discuss when I walked in. He also interrupted the lady who was getting my cake to do something else for him, very rude. The lady who checked me out wasn't pleasant either. I would hate to think that my home has grown prejudice against African people... Now the cake's exterior was beautiful! They did a great job on the the construction of the cake, and did exactly what I wanted ...it matched the shower beautifully. However, I requested a red velvet cake, and this was far from that. I had confidence in this place because it claimed to be on Food Network, so I expected high quality desserts. But this cake was just awful! Dry...too much frosting....and again, wasn't red velvet at all! It tastes more like a chocolate cake...and chocolate cake is NOT red velvet! I spent more that $200 on this tiered cake, and I expected a GOOD cake! A marvelous cake! Instead I got a nasty dry cake that was not even HALF eaten...a waste of money. My wife and I ordered a gluten free 8" cake top for our wedding in September and emailed specific designs for the cake to be decorated. When the cake was picked up the Friday before the wedding, it was presumed to be competed to our specifications. The decorator on the other hand decided to make decisions about how the cake should look without discussing with us. When we asked if they would be willing to fix the design, they said they could do it in the morning if we could drop the cake off the day of the wedding and picked it back up. They would not guarantee deliver or that the cake could be ready at the time of our wedding. We just felt the situation was handled very poorly, especially when you are paying $80 for an 8" gluten free cake. The cake was good otherwise, but very poor customer service. Will definitely not order from here again. read more

Went to pick up some cupcakes for girl party, those were some of the best cakes I have ever had.

I worked with Cakabakery for my wedding cake and had a very disappointing experience. The first sign of disorganization should have been when Alex no-showed our cake tasting. We had scheduled this well in advance and had traveled from out of town to do it. She was very apologetic and delivered cupcakes for us later that day, but still left us feeling like we missed out on the cake tasting experience. Next, when calling to pay for the cake, the staff on the phone had difficulty locating our correct contract and could only find an old version of our contract. They had to call back several hours later with the correct information. And finally, our cakes for our wedding day were not what we ordered. We had ordered one small cake for cutting and the frosting was the wrong flavor and color. We also ordered two sheet cakes of specified flavors that were completely incorrect upon delivery. This was very disappointing considering we had called the week prior to confirm the order. It was as if the orders we placed were not even reviewed upon making the cakes. When we let Cakabakery know of the error, all Jason had to say was that he was "sorry that we were not happy with our order." There was no admission of fault or a genuine apology. He did offer us an anniversary cake, but being that we live out of town, this is not really a realistic offering. When planning a wedding, there is enough to worry about without feeling like you need to constantly follow up with a vendor in order to confirm appointments and orders, therefore I would not recommend this bakery. read more

I was so excited to find this little bakery in town and ordered a cake for my husband's and my anniversary. The good stuff: the staff was quick to respond upon my inquiry and good at make adjustments to the cakes esthetic. The look of our cake was perfect, clean and exactly how I wanted it. But the lemon on lemon cake we ordered just tasted like sugar. It lacked any flavor, moisture and basically just tasted like gummy sugar. I'd steer clear of cake orders... maybe you'll have beet luck with Cakabakery's cookies. read more

As mentioned before in prior reviews, they appear to lack attention to detail and are not very organized in their birthday cake order options. We were anticipating a cake from cakabakery and had gone back and forth regarding designs, however we initiated the order a full month and a half before the order. Over the phone, their manager Melissa cancelled the order stating they needed the design confirmed 2 weeks before the order and stated they could not fulfill the order. This is for a small child's birthday cake. We have ordered from them before and are aware of their cake order process so this was a surprise. No deadlines were mentioned- clearly they could benefit from having a clear process for orders and informing clients during communication when they need final details by. Their phone also does not accept messages because of a full mail box and they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays which makes it difficult to communicate. They stated they need prompt replies via email for cake inquiries. I hope in the future, they can clarify the process and be willing to accommodate their clients. We are clearly very disappointed in their service as this was a 1st birthday cake and their manager was not customer service oriented. read more

We decided to use Cakabakery for our wedding dessert and are thrilled with our decision! Their cake was a huge hit at our wedding. Our guests continued to tell us how much they enjoyed the cake even weeks after the wedding was over! Our semi naked chocolate and vanilla buttercream wedding cake turned out beautiful and delicious. Almost every time we're in GR, we stop for cupcakes. Haven't been since finding out our little one has an egg allergy, and while still nursing, I'm to also avoid eggs. Tried the chocolate vegan cupcakes, and they were life-changing. Holy crap, if you didn't know it, you wouldn't have any idea. SO GOOD.
