Jason and Team are the absolute best in Grand Rapids! I've been a huge fan of thiers for awhile. I always stop in for cupcakes and cookies, theyre fabulous ever time. They made my husband and my wedding cake this past July and it was the most delicious and beautiful creation we could have hoped for! Everyone was blown away! I absolutely LOVE this place. The cupcakes are the best that i have ever had. I love the fact that there is a variety of cupcakes to choose from.They cover all the classics, even red velvet my favorite is the banana peanut butter. The first time i came in the clerk was very helpful and patient with me. Unfortunately, every time after has been a complete let down. the last time i dropped by to get my fix of the best cupcake in the world i was completely ignored by the brown haired female clerk. i was next in line and she clearly saw that. she even looked at me and said who's next in line and proceeded to help the people behind me in line. She literally had a full conversation with them with me still at the front counter. Needless to say, I took my money and walked out. The time before that when i came in the same girl gave me the same disrespectful and condescending demeanor. I entered the store and began to look for those yummy banana peanut butter cupcakes. I saw her sitting in the corner of the shop with her friends just eating and talking. I stood there for 5 min (literally) while she just ignored me. Its sad because the girl has such a pleasant disposition when speaking with others. I have no ill will toward the clerk at this store but i know my business isn't appreciated. The bad part is.....I LOVE the cupcakes so i will be back but if i see this clerk i know to automatically turn around and walk out. I wont receive superior service from her. I dont want to pull the race card in this situation but i cant help but to throw that out there because an air of discrimination was floating around that bakery and it didn't smell good. Im not a yelp review person. I didn't want to even take the time to write this. After throwing the idea around for a few days i figured i had to. Maybe they dont know that the brunette employee lacks equality skills. Maybe she missed that class at her high school. Maybe this is actually the kind of service they promote. Maybe some one else need to hear this? With all the "maybes" the result is still the same. The cupcakes there are 10 out of five stars. Yeah, they are that good. I love this place so much! The people that work here are the absolute sweetest and most genuine people to ever run a bakery. They always recognize me and engage in delightful conversation. Also, their chocolate chip cookies are my kryptonite. Why would anyone ever buy store bought cookies when cookies of this stature exist in the world? I flew into Grand Rapids from Virginia to help host a bridal shower. Jason helped me over email figure out what to order and the quantities. He was so kind and helpful...the customer service was outstanding! When I arrived they had everything ready and boxed. I cannot begin to describe how wonderful my experience was with the Cakabakery. First off, I was going to Grand Rapids as a surprise birthday weekend getaway for my significant other. (He is a craft beer connoisseur, so this was the perfect close-yet-far city.) I called the Cakabakery because I wanted to get a cake delivered to the hotel and Jason, the owner, was more than willing. I explained what I needed and the rest is pretty much history - the cake was delivered, put in our room, and devoured. My significant other (who really doesn't get too excited over things like cake) was raving about it to anyone who would listen. We could not finish the whole cake, so we packed it up and brought it back for others to enjoy - which they did indeed. Went with some friends this past weekend to get some cupcakes. I've been wanting to try Cakabakery since seeing them open on Wealthy not too long ago. We bought 2 different kinds of cupcakes. A spice and a chocolate. We brought them home and were looking forward to a tasty evening treat. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed. The Spice cupcake was very stale. It's crumbled into little pieces when trying to take it out of it's wrapper. The flavor of it was middling at best. The chocolate cupcake was very moist at least. The flavor of that one was off as well though. I may go back to give them another try later on, but I've had better cupcakes from the big box stores quite honestly. read more

i visit the cakabakery two days a week at least, I love the breakfast stout cupcake, the banana peanut butter and the salted caramel. everyone who works there is so friendly, its hard not to walk out with one of everything they sell. I love The Cakabakery. I noticed it in Eastown GR one day because of the Food Network sign in the window. I have a been a fan ever since. I drive 50 miles just to visit this bakery. I plan my ArtPrize trips around it's hours. I never liked no bake cookies before trying their glossy versions. I am convinced they use molten chocolate in this recipe. Their very best cookie IMHO is the chocolate chunk. The cookie dough tastes like butterscotch! Jason created a cookie for me at my request, a lemon butter cookie with lavender buttercream. Ooh la la. Most recently, he baked the cake for our son's small wedding. Here is a picture. The top layer was chocolate merlot (a deep, dark chocolate flavor), and the bottom layer was strawberry champagne (and looked like a celebration). The buttercream icing was the best I ever had! This is a top notch bakery, heads and shoulders above the rest in quality, flavor, decoration, and perfection. read more

My fiance and I tried to order a small cake from them for us to cut into at our wedding. However, we were refused service because we will be serving Costco cake at our wedding and they didn't want it to "be confused" with their cake because it "isn't up to their standards". This place is a joke. How I spend my money is my business. Can't believe I was refused service because I also choose to spend money elsewhere. I decided to stop by Cakabakery with my boyfriend while we were in Grand Rapids for Valentine's Day weekend. I love my sweets & was looking forward to trying this place because of all the great Yelp reviews and the fact that the place was featured on The Food Network. We stopped in the day before Valentine's Day (Saturday), & the place was fairly busy, but we didn't mind the wait because the inside decor was beautiful & unique; it felt like we were inside of a garden house! Once we got to the counter, we were a little disappointed about the lack of options. There were a few red velvet cupcakes, a few vanilla cupcakes, what appeared to be carrot cake cupcakes, & some gluten free carrot cake cake pops. The woman in front of us was ordering almost all of the cupcakes that were on display, it was a little ridiculous. I was worried there would be even less to choose from! When it came to our turn, we simply got one red velvet cupcake to share later in the day & ended it at that. The owner was extremely nice & the cupcake was only $3, so I was happy enough. We didn't end up trying the cupcake until a few hours later when we got back to our hotel room & had eaten dinner. After the first bite, I was already disappointed. It wasn't great. I had much higher expectations for it. There was a ton of frosting, which was okay but I had to scrape some off the top to be able to eat the cupcake. It also seemed a little dry, but I'm not sure if that's because we kept it in the box for a couple hours or not. Or maybe we just got a bad cupcake, who knows. I would try the place again because of the excellent staff & cute appeal, but I'd hope I would get a better baked good next time! read more

Jason did my wedding cake many, many years ago - when he did that kind of thing out of his own kitchen. (I think mine may have been his first wedding cake.) It was great and all my guests loved it! But I hadn't had a chance to try his new retail store. Today, a coworker brought in cupcakes from the Cakabakery. They are seriously the BEST CUPCAKES I'VE EVER HAD! My post is not due to the dissatisfaction of the taste of the food, because I did not get a chance to enjoy the opportunity. I placed an order online on the 28th for the 30th, optimistic of course. Online, there was no disclaimer that the bakery was going to be open one day of that week only which is the day the order needed to be filled. I found out by driving to the grand rapids location after not getting a response or any follow up by email or phone. Of course, there are equally if not better bakeries and another bakery filled my order. However, the lack of acknowledgment and follow up is the dissatisfier. The recommendation is to make sure all customer facing communication aligns; such as, the voicemail that says 2 weeks lead time is appreciated, the website did not, nor did the special holiday hours note on the door was not referenced on the voicemail or website. My sister hired the Cakabakery to make her desserts for her wedding. She had pretty much made/recruited friends and family to make everything for the wedding. These desserts were a HUGE spurlge for her because Jason, the owner, was on tv. She signed a contract drafted by Jason for cake pops, cupcakes, popcorn, and cookies. The day of the wedding came and only half the desserts were delivered. Jason left the venue knowing that they had forgotten the cake pops- no phone call, note, nothing. There were also 6-7 dozen cupcakes missing. When I met with Jason, excuses. They had two other weddings- the other wedding ordered the same type of cupcakes- they must have gotten the extra ones and LAUGHED. He didn't have her phone number to call - really? All in all, I have to say tha I would never recommend this business to anyone who is planning a wedding and the owner was very disappointing in his business skills. I ONLY CLICKED ON ONE STAR B/C YOU HAVE TO CLICK ON SOMETHING. I would choose zero stars. read more
