Wow. Just wow. The service was great and this is the FIRST TIME I have had decent Mexican food since moving here from the east coast a year ago. And I am not saying I went to Mexican Restaurants in the south and had their food and this was comparable. I worked for a landscaping company doing the accounting for them for 7 years and the guys in the field would have their wives make tamales and tacos for everyone for extra $ and that was legit mexican food so THAT is what I am used to. This place was EXACTLY what I had been missing. I ordered chicken tacos and my husband had beef enchiladas. Everything was outstanding. I will definitely be back and I actually hugged our server for finally giving me some decent mexican food. I have to say that the food here (Arizona) in general has been such a severe disappointment (if I can make it better at home why would I go out???) but this made up for it. I love this restaurant. We needed something good like this in the NW area. Normally we eat at La Parrilla Suiza, but my Nana's is much better. The food is fresh, it has loads of flavor, and the salsa is really good. You can have salsa really hot there....they will add chiltepin....as much as you want. In addition, they have a great kids' menu complete with burgers, chicken tenders, and fries in case your child doesn't care for Mexican food. I also love the service. Very friendly and family operated. We always have a lot of fun there, too, I think due to the fact that the staff is so friendly. I hope they stay around for a long time. It'll break my heart if they ever fail. We have brought friends and family there, and they all loved it, too. They have kept going back. This was and excellent happenstance on our part. We were looking for someplace to eat in an unfamiliar city and we found Nana's Kitchen. The atmosphere was very casual and friendly. They have a small bar and are a family run business. Marco (youngest son and our waiter) was very helpful with advice, even to the point of offering a taste of the Carne con papas in case it might be too hot. Our order was changed to the flat enchilada and an enchiladas bandera, which were both excellent. As we finished our meal one of the owners came by the table to make sure we enjoyed our food and were happy with the service. This was a great Mexican dinner. The waiters are friendly, attentive and make you feel welcome. My shrimp were done to perfection in a house sauce with peppers. Homemade flour tortillas and a vegetable medley made a great meal. The waiter gave us our choice between hot salsa and "ketchup". And or, the marks are written by patrons who have likely never been outside the Marana city limits in ages. To start, the carne asada tasted like it was marinated in propane and salt rind before it was overcooked (ordered medium but came out all charred). The "Birria style" meat in my friend's burrito, though generously filled, was just horrible - we both sampled it and couldn't figure out what the heck they season it with, but suffice to say it was WAY over-bearing. Not hot or anything, which would have been fine - just totally wrong. Even the refried beans weren't so good. Dry, salty and pastey. I'm sorry. We know this sounds like a bashing. I've read the reviews and heard all the chatter about Nana's but our family's experience was shock and dismay. Horrible food, and I don't say that lightly. My family all agreed even after all the rave reviews from friends and neighbors. That's why we went. (The oldest, Daniel, said "can we give a zero rating?" ) Especially the burger and fries, which I tasted and our children then our dogs refused to eat. The burger was touted as a specialty so the boys ordered it. My Mexican food was disappointing and probably the worst food I've ever had. The tough part was how nice and friendly the staff and family were at restaurant. We had a tough time telling them that we liked the food when we really hated it. We would have said nothing but we were asked with such glee, and, as I said, they were all so nice. This is one of the two worst food experiences of my entire life and I've eaten overseas, had food poisoning and eaten in a third world country. read more

Husband, son, Mexican-American daughter-in-law and I had breakfast at Nana's during our recent house hunting trip. They raved about Nana's and we were not disappointed with the authentic Sonoran food which is NOT Tex-Mex or Tijuana Mexican fare. The service was excellent.
