My husband and I had heard the food here was very good. We both ordered their chile colorado with potatoes and asked the waitress if the chile was hot. She said yes. The chile had a sweetness to it. Not hot at all. Service was very bad. The waitress kept making excuses as to why she was not attentive but was very attentive to those patrons who seemed to be regulars. The food was flavorful but when you order "hot" (spicy) at a Mexican restaurant you expect hot. One experience was enough. read more

We like to patronize local places, not chains. They don't have a lunch menu so the prices are dinner prices (if your going out for lunch) pretty pricey. Had tacos beans and rice, $20.00 a little to pricey for these parts. Beans and rice seemed like they were heated in the microwave, everything was very salty. Tacos were shredded beef and very soggy-salty too, I was hoping it would be better. Chips seemed store bought. Nice staff but would not return. read more

The iced tea was light brown water- we asked the waitress to take it away & just bring us water. That should have been our first warning. Salsa & chips were not very good at all. I ordered the flat enchiladas which in my experience in both making & having them at other places, they are made from masa, these were corn tortillas I did eat them since our waitress disappeared but was very disappointed. My husband ordered the tacos again not great! Our waitress never returned apparently she left after serving our food & told the lady that I ended asking our bill for to watch out table. I stopped here for breakfast after visiting Saguaro National Park and had the Huevos con Chorizo. The good was delicious but the staff was even better! I read about the good service shortly before coming and was not disappointed. She took such good care of me, I felt like I was at home. WOW... what a wonderful place! --- Great people and outstanding food. We live in Wisconsin and came to Tucson for a get away weekend. We heard about Nana's Kitchen from some friends back home. Okay, so we decided to try it out. Our first impression of the place was simple with not much Mexican flair. The large room had several plain four top tables. We learned later the huge wall painting had some history on how it was painted. It was funny listening to Javier tell us the story. This is a family owned business with delicious food. The shrimp wrapped in bacon, the pork loin with pineapple and the beef barris were outstanding. . They immediately made us all feel welcome, relaxed and comfortable. I had the privilege to step back into Nana's Kitchen. The place was spotless. Floors were clean and the countertops sparkled. The best part of the evening was the entertainment provided by the owner, father, brothers and other staff. The love of the business truly shined throughout the night. Poor customer service..waited about 15 min before anybody even brought us menus, i got the enchiladas banderas and it was extremely gross! The green sauce was so sour and by far the worse of the three. The cheese wasn't even fully melted, felt like thick clumps not gooey like cheese enchiladas should be. Rice and beans were bland. This restaurant continues to get worse the longer they are open. I'm sitting in restaurant right now and it took 25 minutes to get any service. Yes they were somewhat busy but they should have enough staff to accommodate the patrons. I see staff scurrying about with no purpose and not servicing the customers. We are driving through the Tucson area as we move from one coast to the other. While staying at the La Quinta Inns and Suites we asked about recommendations to local restaurants for dinner. The front desk person highly recommended Nana's Kitchen, and after having a fabulous dinner we can see why. I had the Steak Milanese and it was perfect. Very tender and flavorful. I don't know what they marinate the steak in, but each bite was full of the flavor of the marinade. The coating was a perfect crust for the steak. My wife had a taco salad, without meat. All the ingredients were fresh and the taco shell was light and not greasy. She also had a margarita, and commented how she liked the fact it did not taste like it was from a mix, but evidently scratch made. We topped off the meal with the flan, and again the flavors were spot on.The restaurant was clean and bright and clearly family friendly. If you find yourself anywhere near Nana's do yourself a favor and take the time to have an authentic and wonderful Mexican Food meal. read more

I was born and raised in Tucson so I have eaten my share of Mexican food and Nana's is at the top of my list!!! The flat enchilada's are perfect....topped with green olives as they should be and an excellent red sauce. I crave these. The refried beans and rice are the perfect accompaniment. I wish I could tell you about more of their dishes but I am hooked on the flat enchiladas. I can say that every time I have come the people I am with have always truly enjoyed their meals with no complaints!! Our first trip was not the best so we'd tried one more time. We bought a coupon since we go to a movie theater near the restaurant.The service was awful the last time. This time it was excellent. A complete 180. The food remains OK. The cheese crisp was a 3 out of five. Burned in places on the bottom, but just in places. The shredded beef tacos were a 4 on taste a 3 overall since they were mini me shells. $10 for three tacos, you'd expect a bigger shell. So they redeemed themselves with the great service, but Nana's remains a groupon stop only for us. read more

I had the lunch special for $6.25. 1 large shredded beef burrito with a little shredded lettice on the side of the plate. The burrito had nothing in it but meat. As I was eating it a water-like juice started dripping out of the bottom and by the time I was 1/3 of the way into it the entire plate was covered with this juice. I could not even set the burrito down on the plate because it would ruin the tortilla. I asked the waiter for some napkins and then a new plate. I received one but the lettice was now gone. The waiter tried to explain that this was water and not grease, which was true but none the less a real sloppy mess. I was disappointed and would never order that again. My wife loved her tacos, rice and beans. I did not think the burrito was anything great even if it did not flood the plate, and was not worth $6.25 read more

Drove down to Tucson last weekend for a family visit. My brother and sister-in-law met us a Nana's. They said it's their favorite local Mexican food haunt, especially breakfast. I had the huevos rancheros with a green sauce with side of beans. The egg was perfectly prepared, the flavors outstanding and beans were quite flavorful. I enjoyed the meal as well as being treated well by a very courteous wait staff. We'll be back. read more

Nana's Kitchen had better taste ther food before they serve it. We ate at Nana's a few times, the first time was great, the second time was not so great, the bean had a sweet taste to them which meant they were spoiled, the rice was tasteless and the enchiladas were lacking flavor. Today we thought we would give them the benefit of doubt. We ordered the Fajita dinner, the meat was burned, and we were only given two medium size tortillas which clearly was not enough so we asked for two more. So when we got the bill we noticed that we were charged 1.15 for two extra tortillas. Shame on you Nana's Kitchen you just lost us cutomer's. read more

Delicious! Had late lunch on a Monday and the place was pretty much empty. Seated and attended to quickly by Nana herself! I ordered the Carna Asada taquitos and devoured them. Really liked the dollop of guac under the carne Asada--added nice flavor and held everything together so didn't fall apart. Beans and rice were good too. Big portions! My daughter loved it because she could get pancakes which were light and fluffy. Very good. Next time I am in Tucson I will stop by again! Thank you! read more

Awful food, service and experience. My family and I just finished eating at this establishment. The waitress did not offer or bring chips and salsa. We looked around and saw that every other table had them. She brought out our food and never returned. At one point I asked my wife if we had done something to deserve this kind of service. Nana had to ask our waitress to get our bill which still took her another 10 minutes. I ordered a $5 frozen margarita and was charged $8 for a margarita that had crushed ice chunks throughout. Very expensive for small portions that did not taste good. Tucson has plenty of better options for Mexican food. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere but here. read more

This restaurant had been recommended to us plus we read it got good reviews. We had recently purchased a Groupon Coupon and felt it was the time to try it out. What a huge disappointment!!! While the margaritas were very good that's where the "stars" ended. Our waitress was cordial but blatantly told us in no uncertain terms that drinks and tips were not included with the coupon. We weren't born yesterday and knew this. I find it extremely rude of wait staff to point out that their tip should be based on the total cost of the bill sans coupon. We asked for water in addition to our margaritas.The chips were not fresh nor hot. Tasted like they had been sitting around all day. Granted we came early, at about 4:30 for dinner, but they could have served them warm. I ordered the deluxe cheese crisp but without tomatoes. My husband ordered the combo fajitas. My cheese crisp arrived with tomatoes and cold. We never got the water-had to ask twice. His fajitas were so salty they were barely edible. They reheated the cheese crisp but it was still tepid at best. While only 2 other tables were occupied we had to repeatedly ask for more salsa and the water-not very attentive service especially after being reminded that we needed to include the tip!! We looked at each other and said NEVER again. Maybe we hit an off night but if the food and service was so poor on an early evening mid-week-what do they do on a busy night? We will never be back! What a horrible experience. We took my mother-in-law out for Mother's day a little early to beat the crowds. We had been here once before and the food was good. Not sure what happened in the last 3 months but our experience was terrible. The waitress brought the wrong order out for two members of our party and when we told her about it, she was upset with us because she was wrong. When she finally brought the rest of the orders out the sides were extra hot and the main dishes cold as if they had been sitting out for quite a while. The kicker is when I received my Chile Colorado plate it looked really good until I tasted it. It was a mix of sweet tomato paste and stringy meat. As I moved the food on the plate I found a large metal hook at the bottom of the plate. It was buried at the bottom so my guess is that it was at the pan of food as it was being served. When I brought it to the attention of the waitress she said I'll give you a discount on another plate but just offered me a combo plate rather than letting me pick it myself. Overall there was poor service since the waitress acted as if we were bothering her with our 7 member party even though we didn't ask for much and her reaction to the hook in the food was as if she had experienced it before and wasn't surprised. Beware don't waste your time, money or effort. read more
