It has been a while since I Yelped. Today I just had to run my mouth on Nana's Kitchen. Had the smothered poke chops. You read that right. Poke chops. Anyone can make a pork chop. You have to be a great southern chef to make a smothered poke chop. I had the two chop plate with Mac, Black eyed peas, chops over a bed of rice. Okay so I ordered mashed spuds and asked for no rice. For the first time in my adult life of ordering out, the mistake on my order was a straight up mind read. Had I known, I would have ordered my meal the way it was mistakenly made. Cot danged this was flavor overload. Mind officially blown. The poke chop was fried, smothered and had to have been slow simmered for hours. That is the only way they get this fork tender. Absolutely melted on the tongue. Elevated the humble pig to a level reserved for Wygu beef. I am not a white rice person by any means but the way the rice blended with that gravy...epic taste. I am a convert now. Total convert. The Black eyed peas were good. My pref is to sautee Bell peppers and onions and simmer them with the peas. How we do in the deep south. Nana somehow got good flavor without the extra steps though. Enjoyed them with no hot sauce needed. In fact I didn't add anything to the meal but the utensils the meal came with and my appetite. Nana put both feet and all ten toes in that grub. No other way to put it. For those worried about Covid 19. Nana's is all set up and observing social distancing. You can order in the car or go in the restaurant then wait in the car for them to bring it out like I did. Do not. I repeat. Do not leave without a slice of lemony lemony lemon cake. Icing has the taste of real lemon zest. Wow. Somebody grew up eating lemons because this reminded me of my childhood eating lemons only we added a peppermint stick. If you are on a diet, just do an exchange and treat your taste buds to some kick. Price was well on point, (maybe even low) for the weight of the plate and portion sizes. Gen- er-ous. I will be eating twice on my plate and I'm a grown azz man. Get here. I live in Hurst so the drive was well worth it. If you are in the DFW or coming in from out of town, make a stop here. read more

My family visited Nana's Kitchen for a second time, as a group, on this past Sunday. The staff was great and pleasant. The ambiance was nice. While the foods had good flavor it was not hot with heat when we received it. It took them a while to get it to us as they were busy. We had oxtail, fried fish and several orders of meatloaf with the majority of us ordering Mac and cheese, Sweat potatoes and a green veggie. The most disturbing thing we found out was that the sweet potato cake is made with alcohol. My group typically consists of adults and children who do not drink. We found this to be an alarming fact as we have and had purchased this cake while not being fully informed and shared it with our toddler. It is our belief that the name of the cake or a sign should be displayed informing customers so that they can make an informed choice. read more

Whew child where do I start? I definitely wish I would've taken a picture before I ate all my food(hahaha) I had Meatloaf, Mac and cheese and black eyed peas My little sister had , chicken fried steak , mashed potatoes , Mac and cheese with greens! When I say the portion size was TEXAS SIZED baby that's what I meant! The customer service beat the food though(that was a close tie though) there was never a time out cup wasn't filled up every time it was emptied! We were greeted with smiles , friendly faces and great clean smells! This had me feeling like I was at Big Mamas house on a Sunday afternoon after hours of praise and worship services (hahaha) the food was fantastic. I ordered online and went to pick up my order. I did this on a Sunday, so the oxtail dinner was on the menu. I'm from Florida and from the country so I love me some good ol' oxtails! Every persons oxtails are different depending on the region. Texas oxtails taste different from Florida oxtails, but it was good nonetheless. I could really taste the worchester sauce in there, but the meat was fall off the bone tender. The portion was more than generous and a fatty mcgee like me appreciated that. The mac and cheese was good. I am a snob when it comes to mac and cheese, but it wasn't bad. It definitely was made on the stove. The side dish that pleasantly surprised me was the cabbage. I have never in my years of eating cabbage had carrots and jalapenos added. Oh wow! It was really good. I didn't even need my true and trusted Louisiana hot house. The jalapenos gave it a nice kick. Last, but certainly not least, the cornbread! I see why Goldmouth asked Rayford (If you've seen the movie Life w/ Eddie Murphy, you know what scene this is from) did he want his cornbread. I love a sweet, moist cornbread. I hate getting a dry, salty piece of cornbread. If I knew then what I know now, I would have ordered extra cornbread. Nana's food is amazing! The meatloaf was some of the best I've ever had-tender, seasoned well, and just enough tomato topping. The porkchop my husband had were so juicy and flavorful, too. The gravy it was in-I wanted to drink it-yes, it was that good. The sides were also tasty especially the Mac and cheese and the greens. The service did not take long after ordering. We tried the fried chicken plate anticipating a full bone-in breast. Their fried breast are technically tenderloins/boneless filets. Other than that the food was flavorful. Greens tasted home cooked full of flavor, sweet potatoes good not too sweet. Would definitely return and try another menu item. read more

This place is as good as it gets. There is so much love in the food that every bite is delightful. I've ordered from here twice in the last 2 days and gotten something completely different both times. The food was hot, fresh, and delicious and they even called immediately after I placed an order to tell me they were out of a particular side. The portions are HUGE and I've eaten to being full and still had tons of leftovers. The first time I ordered smothered pork chops, mashed potatoes, and blackeyed peas. They gave me 2 HUGE pork chops that were breaded and fried and had the most flavorful brown gravy smothered all over them. The pork chops were packaged by themselves in a styrofoam container because of how huge they were! The sides were in their own containers but I ended up mixing the mashed potatoes in with the rich gravy. The blackeyed peas could have used the smallest pinch of salt, but that's because I grew up with my grandma making hers with something she called "salt roux". The second time I ordered their daily special: Chicken Spaghetti. This portion was HUGE as well! They gave me a huge portion of chicken spaghetti and a quarter chicken to go with it. The spaghetti was creamy and savory and quite literally PERFECT. The green beans were hot and the corn was sweet. I I could literally order from here every day and be completely happy. read more

I've had Nana's bookmarked for awhile, but when we got the stay at home orders back in March and then seen her on the news, I had to go try the food. You go in and order or call in, they bring it out to your car. We got the smothered pork chops, catfish and shrimp. There's a park 1 minute away, so we sat in the car and ate our food. It was kinda nice to sit there in the park while eating. No knife needed for the pork chops. Fork tender and really good. I only wish I had some hot sauce for the black eyed peas. Good on their own though!! I didn't get to try the shrimp. The cafish was good as well. read more

I don't recall when I have ever given 5 stars but this is well deserved for food and customer service. I placed an order on today (Sunday) on GRUBHUB for two entree plates - smoked turkey w/mashed potatoes and gravy and cornbread stuffing and meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green eans. I also ordered a few additional sides - greens and two slices of strawberry and 7up cake. Delivery arrived quickly and the food was still hot! I used to drive all the way to Dallas to Two Podners for soul food. Honey, that's a no go after eating Nana's soul food. Chile, that food was off the chain delicious! The food was carefully packaged with plenty of utensils. The meatloaf was moist, flavorful, and downright delicious. Mashed potatoes were big billowy pillows of soft creamy lusciousness. The smothered turkey wing had a beautiful golden gravy that me wanna stand up and rejoice for home cooking! Amen! I haven't tried the cake yet. I'm in a food coma at the moment. But let me tell ya any restaurant that offers 7-up cake and German chocolate cake has my absolute seal of approval. I can't wait to make room in my tummy for it. Now here's the kicker, they didn't have anymore cornbread stuffing so I they called me to let me know! How courteous is that and the woman on the phone was very friendly. I was disappointed not to have the cornbread stuffing but extremely thoughtful for the restaurant going the extra mile to let me know. And that's what took this to a 5 star review I can't wait to try Nana's Kitchen again very soon and I highly recommend their food and customer service! Update 6/30 - Today I ordered Enchiladas and the Rosemary Chicken plate. A young woman called to alert me they no longer serve enchiladas on Tuesday which was disappointing. Instead, I tried substituting it with fried catfish, fries, and a salad. Salad was good, fries were homemade but soft, stuck together and not so great. The fish was too dense for me with a very thick cornmeal batter. I prefer fried fish fillets with a lighter cornmeal batter and a thinner serving of fish. Haven't tried the Rosemary Chicken yet. Regretting today's decision for fish but it's the only way to see what's good and what needs improvement. read more

The food here was amazing! We tried calling in our order but we were placed on hold and they never came back to the phone so we drove up and picked it up. They delivered it right to our car. Their menu changes daily so check their Facebook before going to make sure you get what you want. We wouldn't recommend the green beans as they were a little bland but the greens are out of this world. We also got strawberry cake but that is not pictured but it was delicious. read more

I must say the food is good, great even, on most days. But the service (each and every time I come) is not as good....I have tried the smothered pork chop, fried pork chop, and the fried fish....I ATTEMPTED to try the ox tails, however I asked to sample them and was told no... Ok sure, but staff doesn't have to get an attitude because I asked to sample.. a simple "unfortunately we don't allow samples" would have sufficed; save the eye rolls. Work on service and maybe the experience of NaNa's would be as good as the food. read more

Definitely box and they tried to doctor it up. Issa NO for me. My friend had fried pork chop which was made to order, but it lacked seasoning very bland. I tasted a piece and liked it but had no seasoning. It was fried perfectly, so there is some potential there. Collard greens was on point though. SWEET lemonade : ) and pineapple & strawberry cake. This place is legit! Portions were perfect and everything was hot and fresh. My food was ready right on time and brought to my car. Overall they're sides really shine! I had the Fried chicken (with white gravy which was AMAZING!) with the spicy greens and yams. The yams and greens are some of the best I've had that weren't homemade Husband had the 2 smothered chops with Mac and cheese and sweet corn. I think the chicken could have had a little more flavor. Cabbage was spicy as it say on the menu but tasted good. The greens were on point. No complaints. Sweet potato's were really sweet with a nutmeg flavor and a lot of juice in the bottom. All in all a good night. Probably won't get the chicken again but possibly try the catfish next time.
