Good portion flavor was amazing.. (For me a bit too sweet), but overall good. Corn bread, now exactly how it was described, very velvety it melts in your mouth. For the flavor and density was very surprised it wasn't crumbly. Service was very welcoming, didn't make you feel overwhelmed for being a first time customer. No rushing while trying to order, which for me is very important when trying a restaurant for the first time. Ambiance very comfortable and laid-back. Definitely will try this hidden gem again

I am…read moregiving a very generous 4 star review mainly because of the woman who was plating all the food behind the counter and because this place is a soul food spot not southern. I came here today a little after 5pm and did not get a greeting like everyone else did when I walked into the door. They were pretty busy with to go orders around this time. There is an entrance area where you order and pay for your food and a separate area for dining in. I ordered a catfish fillet with Mac n cheese and sweet potatoes and fried shrimp basket with fries and greens to go. I ordered at 5:15 and got my food at 5:45 and let me tell you, it was the longest wait of my life. I think the A/C must've been broken because it was hot in the waiting area and it didn't help that one of the front desk girls kept complaining about them still being open for another hour. There were a bunch of flies everywhere and the front area doesn't seem to be cleaned throughout the day. I also feel for the woman who puts the plates together because she's doing it by herself and was constantly asking the front desk girls to bag the orders. She stayed calm though and still greeted people as they were coming in. Now for the food. The shrimp basket was $25.99 and the catfish was $19.99. The shrimp was good, kids approved. The catfish was good too. All the food was made fresh to order so I can appreciate that for quality. Onto the sides. I think the French fries were accidentally season with sugar instead of salt. The greens were ok, just drenched with garlic. The Mac n cheese, ehhh. I was looking forward to the Mac n cheese but it wasn't as cheesy as I was expecting but tasted ok. The sweet potatoes were really good, probably my favorite side out of the four. The cornbread was moist and good. Overall, food was good but definitely overpriced. However, I do support small businesses but still think it's a bit overpriced based on portion size. They do require you pay for your food before you sit down if you are dining in. This may be because of too many incidents where people dine and dash. I do think that the lady behind the counter putting the plates together needs better help. No offense to the young girls they have working there but either train them or get someone who can actually do the job. If you are looking for true southern food, this ain't it. Texas food vs. southern food are 2 completely different things which I am learning the hard way now having lived here for a year.

Craving fried chicken and decided to head to Juicys Soul Food and learned they had closed....uggggh. Not to be deterred discovers Linda's Soul Food to go and called to inquire if they had fried chicken. They did. Yahoooo. Off we went. Upon arrival and as we entered this little gem I just admit I was worried. It was dead and appeared only one person was working. We learned they only had 4 meat offerings, fried chicken, fried pork chops, meatloaf and fried catfish. We were a bit disappointed when we learned they only had wings and legs for the fried chicken but moved on and placed an order. I had the fried chicken legs, collard greens, fried cabbage and Mac n cheese. She opted for the fried pork chops and Mac n cheese. The serving size are huge. 3 legs, 3 pork chops. Sides are plentiful. Are you ready? Absolutely delicious. The fried pork chops were the best we have ever had out. The Fried chicken was equally as good. HOT. JUICY. Soooo good. The Mac n cheese was better than Juicys. Cheesy and gooey goodness. I loved it. The collards were also better than Juicys....id argued one of the best I've ever had out. My mom would have been in heaven. Speaking of heaven...the Fried Cabbage is to die for... A major home run!

There was a…read morecouple that walked in just ahead of me and based on their questions, it was clearly their 1st visit, as well. The dry erase board had the following listed; meatloaf, fried chicken, fried fish, fried pork chops. She did say they offer other things on the weekend. That statement confused me because it was Saturday around noon and the couple had to wait for someone to come unlock the door which implied that they were just opening. The couple inquired about options other than fried and was told that meatloaf was it. One asked if there was pork in the sides. Her response was "no pork at all" and the lady said, " Except the fried pork chops, right?" Well, as you see from the photo, there's pork in the greens. I ordered fried pork chops with mac & cheese, yams, and collard greens which came with cornbread. The only other side listed was cabbage. Lemon pound cake was the dessert offered. I was told my order should be ready in about 20 minutes. I left and went to Starbucks up the street and came back about 30 minutes later and he was putting my order into the bag. I want to preempt by saying give this place a try and see what you think. You may have a different experience. There is construction being done on the street in front of the establishment, FYI. I personally did not enjoy the taste of the food. The yams were okay, but again, the taste just wasn't there for me. The cashier did say that they've only been open a year so maybe it's a work in progress.

Since i don't think i even know a person on earth that doesn't have some type of allergy then I recommend that everyone on earth skip eating at dan's seafood & chicken. And, if dan's wants to have any take out business at all I suggest that they have a better trained person answer the phone. Customer service can make or break a small business. Especially with the volatile economy we are all experiencing right now.

I have eaten at a LOT of soul food restaurants and this was the first time I received a box cake. I ordered baked chicken...bland but for the salty grayish white gravy that was poured over it. I also had the cabbage....zero thermal heat and the yams...sweet but not complex. The cornbread was room temperature and hard. The tea was syrupy sweet with very little tea flavor. This place was a huge disappointment. The only bonus is the portion size of the sides. Other than that, there were no pros. As the owner uncovered the sauce less pigs' feet, the dry neck bones and the heatless macaroni goulash, I apparently was rude because of my facial expression, I.e. I was shocked and fairly disgusted by the lackluster food appearance. I've never seen neck bones that aren't in their juices or pigs feet either!!!! Alas, my dear hubby is an eternal optimist and didn't want to be rude. So I went along and ordered, but barely picked at the baked chicken. The owner lectured me on my rudeness and how much I had to learn about life and how to talk and deal with people. I pointed out that I was an attorney and I deal with people all the time. However she raised her voice and told me about all FIVE of her degrees in engineering, business administration, etc. and who my law degree didn't mean anything to her. Lol... Looking back, I am sure her feelings were hurt as a result of my shock and disgust. Well, if the food was hot and actually flavorful (as true soul food is), there would be no reason to look shocked and disgusted. There is no excuse for a gravy that is salty and poured over just about every dish. If you are taking the money of the hard working people in that neighborhood, shouldn't you provide quality food? Not to mention it is fairly inexpensive commodity dishes that are being served! If your serving table is defective, care enough about your product and get another one that ensures the food is actually HOT! The food was of poor quality. The owner was rude and confrontational. I would not recommend this place.
