Slop. The health department needs to be brought in. I've seen Mama E before and have always wanted to try it. Called ahead and learned they had chicken spaghetti and chicken n dumplings. Yum we made a beeline. Ordered the Chicken Spaghetti and Chicken dumplings with greens and green beans. Along with a side of potato salad. My sis ordered a chopped beef sandwich with green beans and potato salad. The chicken spaghetti arrived first. It was spoiled. literally had to spit it out. My sis tried the green beans and they weren't seasoned one bit. I had to leave. We went straight to counter and I explained there was something wrong with the Chicken Spaghetti and explained it tasted spoiled. I paid for the chopped beef $19.99 and a drink but we left it all on the table. The son followed us out to the parking lot and offered a refund. I explained we were leaving. It was literally the worst soul food/home cooked food experience of my life and as you can see by my many reviews the 1 star here is generous. I wouldn't recommend anyone coming here...seriously it's not just bad but a health safety issue. Drew's....here we come. read more

I was searching for soul food in my area, and I found out that Mama E's BBQ isn't too far from me. Super excited to give this place a try and to support a black owned business just to drive all the way here to find out the restaurant is closed but online it's stated that the establishment opens at 9am - 5pm Saturday morning, it's currently 10:16am business is still closed. I swear it's so hard to support a black owned business read more

On March 1, 2024. Around 2pm. I ate at Mama Es BBQ. the conversation was casuaĺ but the food was NOT HOMECOOKED. The store advertised that all the food is HOME-COOKED, however I witnessed MAMA E opening BAKED BEANS out of a can. She also used GREENS out of a can. When I ordered the food it was delivered almost IMMEDIATELY. There was no wait and the food was NOT VERY HOT it was only warm. When I also ordered BBQ brisket sandwich. The meat was BURNT. I did not ask for BBQ SAUCE and they INSISTED on putting it on my sandwich. The experience was HORRIBLE. I did not get a receipt. I was told that there was a NO REFUND or REPLACEMENT policy. read more

The food was lovely ,i was unsure of what to get so I got a couple of things ,the okra was the best out of everything!!! The service was excellent also ,her son was very sweet and funny !very cheap for good home cooked bbq! read more

Best BBQ in Fort Worth and the Home Style food is amazing. Mama is a sweet lady with a sassy style. She goes out of her way to make you feel at home. read more

I used to live in Oklahoma City and thought this place might be a spin-off of the popular soul food restaurant there that also goes by the name "Mama E's" so my son and I decided to give it a try. When we walked in a older lady behind the counter gave use straight attitude vibes. We weren't even greeted cause she was looking at us up and down. I decided I'd eat somewhere else, the prices are too high to be served with an attitude on the side. I'll pass. read more

First time here.. So of course I call to get their hours since it's a holiday. The lady answers, I ask what time they close she sarcastically answers 5PM.... OKAY THEN!? I still decide to give it a try as she must've been busy or whatever... I get there it's no one there except myself and another guy. I order my food, they bring it out quickly. As she bagging the food I ask for pickle/onion (SINCE THEIR SIGN SAYS BY REQUEST ONLY) I get the dirtiest look and deep breaths as if she didn't want to go get them. Like really lady?? It's not like I asked you to change my meat or sides or it was 5 min until closing. In conclusion their attitude is bad *BEWARE*. I just hope their food speaks for itself as I will be my last time there. read more

Mama E's BBQ - $12 turkey leg plate - Soul Food Near Me - Fort Worth, Texas

Tiny little shack in an unnoticeable part of town. That is what Mama E's BBQ is! I stopped by here during my drive from Elk Grove, Ca to Huntsville, Tx. This was my second time trying Texas barbeque, with the first being quite a lackluster experience. I got the beef brisket, chopped sandwiches, potato salad, and beans. The brisket was drenched in barbeque sauce, which was not to my liking. Rather than being able to taste the smokiness of the beef, every crevice was covered in sauce. The chopped sandwiches had a low meat-to-bun ratio. The barbeque sauce was unmemorable. Mame E's kept my bar low for Texas barbeque. read more

I read about this place in Fort Worth Weekly and had been looking forward to trying it. I stopped in today and I was very disappointed. The lady at the cash register was very nice. Maybe she was Mama E. I'm not sure. On to the food though. I ordered the rib plate $8.99 with 2 sides. I wanted turnip greens but there was none left from the earlier lunch special so I ordered baked beans and potato salad. 1. Ribs were a huge let down. They were tough. They weren't seasoned and were not fall off the bone tender as they should have been. 2. I think Bush Grillin Beans from the can taste 1000 times better than the baked beans I was served. They might want to upgrade their recipe. 3. The potato salad was smooth. Like mashed potato smooth. Not a lot of flavor or ingredients and the smoothness was kinda weird. read more

First time stopping in, I've always seen this place but today decided to try it out. I ordered the chicken dressing with red beans and greens! My boyfriend got the bbq chopped beef sandwich plate, omg the chicken dressing was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The beans were my favorite tho! So so good! The greens were so good. The homemade taste is unmatched! I tasted my bfs chopped beef and was jealous because it was also amazing I'm sad i haven't tried this before!!! It's amazing. 10 stars! read more

I was expecting to have options here since they advertise home cooking. They offered spaghetti with lima beans and corn along with their usual bbq options. The 3 women were really nice and the establishment was very clean. I didn't care for the ribs and knew that I wouldn't when I unpacked my food. To me they appeared to be baked with a hint of liquid smoke added. There was no smoke ring which then supported my thinking but they were tender and the sauce was good. I didn't finish my food and will not rule them out. Im always a fan or supporting small businesses. I will give it another shot and try other menu options. There are no prices posted so you don't know how much your total will be until they ring you up. Please keep in mind although they advertise home cooking you will not find the normal reqular menu items that typical soul food places carry ( pork chops, fish, chicken etc). read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. TERRIBLE customer service I called to inquire about a menu item and was hung up on. After calling back I was yelled at, because of this female's actions I will never contribute a dime to this business! I try to support fellow black business but this one is an absolute no. read more

Read reviews and thought I must try it out. So glad I did. Enjoyed my ribs and beans. Even my two picky girls ate the fried fish. I had two-weeks of traveling with them ordering and then not eating food. They almost polished off their plates either they were real hungry or it was real good My daughter just said "this is the best fish I've ever ate!" read more

There is, after all, a reason they call it comfort food -- some of that has to do with the type of fare they're spinning here: BBQ classics, soul food staples, backed out against a cozy off-the-highway spot heavily steeped in the familiar. I stopped in, like others, on the strength of the feedback that's been popping up around here, hungry, a little hanging, due to lean against the wheel of my ride for a long trek later. I was not disappointed. Mama E is Ernestine, the proprietor, and I could be totally off on this, but I think that it's likely that she was the lady both running the kitchen and checking on the well being of those of us in the dining room throughout. I was in by myself and as noted a little raggedy, and she looked as if she knew that this might be a lunch that called for a kind word and a hearty meal. She delivered on both. I got the sliced brisket plate (with two slices of old school white bread), sides of baked beans and green beans, and a root beer. This may have been the antithesis of overtly sophisticated meals, but to be honest, I was made to feel so at home, I wouldn't have traded any elaborate arrangement for what felt like a chomp with friends. They're super sweet here, the food's great, simple, and you'll leave feeling like you've known this place a hundred years. That's gotta be worth something. read more

I was looking for some BBQ on a Sunday afternoon this week. I went to my favorite, Mom's, but they were closed. This was disappointment. So I literally drove around the corner and stumbled upon Mama E's. This place is awesome. Honestly one of the best brisket sandwiches I've ever had. Mama E. herself even gave myself and 6 or so of my friends t-shirts. So I'll be supporting her without fail. If you need BBQ, go here. I had the turkey leg, it was delicious. I really liked their coleslaw and potato salad as well. It's a great home-cooking joint. All right, I got news. Here's what's up. Their sliced BBQ sandwich is THE best sliced bbq sandwich I have ever had. Please, for your own sake come here and try this. And, if you didn't already know these people are the best. read more

OH MY!! Woke up with a hankerin' for some BBQ this Sunday morning, went to yelp to get the hours for Cousins BBQ, and found this little jem! Mama E, your BBQ q was absolutely de-lish-ous! I had ribs and sliced combo with side of potato salad and mac and cheese. My wife had the chopped sandwich with green beans and potato salad. Nice warm peach cobbler to top it off and took a pound of potato salad and sliced back home. First let me say meeting Mama E was a delight. What a wonderful woman, told us some of the history of the location, invited us to her church, offered us a piece of the massive philodendron (spelling?) that she has growing there. A sweet woman who has got BBQ DOWN YALL! Now to the food. Good Lord it was good. Brisket was smoked perfectly with hints of mesquite and pecan. Loved the sauce, just light enough to let the flavor of the meat take center stage. The ribs were cooked just right, very tender and sticking to the bones just enough to let you enjoy digging in tearing off. The potato salad. wow. I know the sides shouldnt outshine the main but man this was close. I really enjoyed her tater salad. Finally the peach cobbler. YES YES YES. Nice and warm with fresh peaches, nice cinnamon crispy crust just was the perfect way to finish this meal. All and all I felt like Mama E had us over for lunch and was cooking for us right out of her kitchen. (which I suppose it kinda was!) Please dont the outside intimidate you. The inside was spotless clean. Food cooked with lots of love and it shows. ENJOY! ! ! read more

Mama E's is one of the best BBQ joints in Fort Worth. Possibly the best. If you think Railhead qualifies for this, please stop reading. Mama E's has a very unique and down to earth environment. They have a lot of regulars who will come talk to you and adds to the very welcoming atmosphere. The bbq sandwich is really good, as is are the links. But what really kills it is the potato salad, it's top notch. Probably the best I've had in my life. The only trouble you might have is that it's a little small (it only has about 4 tables), so don't go at a peak lunch hour. Overall Mama E's is a complete BBQ experience. read more

Wouldn't eat here to save my life! Customer service doesn't exist unless you are not black. Food is subpar and may contain roaches.

This is undoubtedly the best barbequed brisket I've had since I came to Texas nearly 16 years ago. This (gasp) Yankee had never seen barbeque like this when I first came to Texas. Most of the barbeque I've tried has been good to so-so. I've tried Soulman's BBQ and it's quite good but nobody holds a candle to Mama E!!! It seems like just another barbeque place from the outside but the brisket is so tender you can barely tell the difference in texture between the meat and the bread! My husband and I took a friend there today and she tried the ribs and some sweet potato pie...oh man, she loved 'em both!! The place is not fancy but definitely clean. The people are very nice and there is a clear Christian bent to the atmosphere but no pressure from it. read more

Over a year later, I made it back to Fort Worth and had to eat here again! I was craving the awesome fried catfish and hush puppies but was told that was only their special on Friday. After raving about it, though, they said if I ordered the day before, they would make it special for me. Wow! What service! I ended up trying their brisket, which was so tender it melted in my mouth. It did come drenched in a bunch of BBQ sauce, though, so if that's not your thing, might want to order BBQ sauce on the side. Then, I came back the next day for the fried catfish, hush puppies, and the AMAZING fried okra. How is it possible to have fried food that is crispy but not at ALL greasy??? Plus, they will also let you order whole pies the day before, too, so I special ordered 3 of those for friends. They didn't even make me pay ahead of time, just took me on the honor system. Wow, where do you get service like that nowadays? They are SO sweet and the food is so good, why WOULDN'T you eat here?! read more

Yummy. This ain't no chain BBQ joint. Real down home food. Had the triple meat plate: ribs, brisket, hot links. Not a fancy place just really good home style BBQ. I see reviews that complain of the styrofoam plates or the little place it's in. For those reviewers: there's a Chili's chain restaurant somewhere nearby. read more

So I've really been on this soul food/BBQ drive recently... no idea why. This little no-frills joint seems to sell ice as a main commodity... this has me mind-boggled. I do know one thing though, the food here is tasty. I always judge these sort of places based on price, and for $21, you can sample pretty much all things tasty here. I particularly enjoy BBQ joints that offer southern sides, which are a nice change from beans and slaw. My mother and I split a turkey leg, ribs, brisket, cabbage, beans and rice, and a smothered pork chop. Remember when you used to get a nice turkey leg at the state fair, and it was sometimes dry, and it was about $9? Well, pay no more! For $5 you get a juicy, sauced-up turkey leg covered in some classic white bread. The brisket and ribs came already sauced, but the sauce was nice and runny, so it didn't overwhelm the meat. Brisket was better than average, but could've used more smokiness. Ribs were the classic spare ribs, and were good, but again, they could've used more smoke. Perhaps they shouldn't drown their meat. Alongside the BBQ plate, red beans and rice were well done, and the cabbage was peppery, though soggy. Good sides, nothing special. On that same "note" (hehe, get it? soul... music?), the smothered pork chop had a perfect crust that melted in with that smothering gravy, although I would have preferred a sort of stickier gravy. Humble and casual, this eatery definitely puts up the perfect combo of soul food and meat, but don't expect outrageous food. Just good, solid, unpretentious food. EAT THE TURKEY LEG THOUGH! read more

My coworker and I visited quite a while ago and never returned. The owner is very sweet but the food wasn't great. The potato salad tasted like a side of mayonnaise. The sausage was ok. The beans were better. The biggest issue was her family members coming in fighting. No one stopped them and we were waiting on food for more than 15 minutes. Embarrassing... read more

Now THIS is classic home cooked food (and BBQ). I went in with a 5 year itch to finally try this place. This joint is as honest as it comes. It's all about the food here and superior customer service. I currently don't have a solid place to go, in Fort Worth, for some genuine home cooked food so Mama E's is a real gift. I let Mama E, herself, suggest what I should get for lunch on this occasion and I'm so glad she mentioned the meatloaf. BTW if you're not a "mmm, I really love meatloaf" person maybe this isn't the place for you. I can honestly say it was the most delicious home cooked lunch I've had in a long long time. The meatloaf can't be beat. I got the lunch special so I also had 2 sides (green beans and butter beans) and a drink (perfectly sweet lemonade). You'll want the lemonade to balance the savory meat loaf. I have to say I could not have been any more pleased with how yummy the food was and how kind Mama and her Daughter were to a strange new patron. The food was so tasty it had me dancing in my seat. I'm guessing that is what triggered them to let me taste test their new apple cobbler. Again solid and satisfying home cooked food in the historic south side of Fort Worth (right off of 35W south). I'm definitely going to start going on the regular..especially on Chicken Dumpling Wednesdays. read more

The sweet potatoes were yummy. I also had the lemon chess pie, good. The red beans tasted store bought and the ribs had no flavor but well cooked. Barbecue sause wasn't thick enough. I wouldn't go back. read more

Learned from a neighbor that this restaurant was doing fried turkey for Thanksgiving. Ordered mine and picked it up a day before Thanksgiving. The reheating process was easy. It didn't come with gravy so I purchased some from them as well. Although the gravy was a bit pricy but it was totally worthy. The owner was right. The gravy was so good. I don't like white meat. But this turkey breast was so juicy so I loved every single bit of it. The turkey nor the gravy was too salty like many restaurants would do to make their food tasty. I definitely would come back next year for another fried turkey. But before then, I would definitely drop by again to try their regular food. Thanks for the yummy Thanksgiving turkey! read more

Mama E is very nice and kind. The food was just ok.

Overpriced food with no seasoning. This was my first time here and I won't go back. The beans were just pork and beans(not baked beans) straight out of the can. The potatoe salad is made with instant potatoes and taste like nothing but a jar of Hellman's mayonnaise. The slices of bread were hard. And the meat is covered in a barbeque sauce that seems to be thinned out with water and no flavor. (They don't bother to ask if you want it on the side.) And then the side of sauce for the sandwiches is so small. The food was gross and I just threw out $41.00 worth of food. read more

2 stars is the best I can do for Mama E's. I guess their rendition of "soul food" is not for me--"gratuitous fat" seems to sum it up! And no great bargain either. So I had the sliced beef plate ($7.50) with sides (about 2 tablespoons each) of cole slaw and potato salad. Very fatty, almost mushy bbq beef. Cole slaw that was practically solid mayonnaise with a little cabbage added for texture and flavor. And potato salad that resembled cold mashed potatoes with added pickle, mustard, and you guessed it--mayonnaise! Everything tasted pretty good, I guess, but holy heart attack, diabetes, and obesity, this is food to avoid for health's sake! And why are you served in a styrofoam take-out container when you've ordered "for here?" read more

Mama E is the sweetest lady ever. This place isnt in the nicest neighborhood, but if you want good Texas barbecue, definitely try Mama E`s. Her food is real good home cookin! I got the barbecued chicken and it came with your choices of sides. I got rice and coleslaw. She saw me taking pictures of my food and laughed. I told her that we were visiting from California and we had a good talk about texas, california and barbecue. She even tried to make my food a little more pretty for my picture by putting gravy and a couple slices of pickles on my rice. OMGOSH her gravy is the best gravy I have ever had, EVER. I have never tasted such yummy gravy! I dont eat red meat, but I made a special exception just for her gravy. Thinking about it 4 months from the first time i tried it, and I still crave for her great barbecue and gravy! read more

Mama Is the sweetest lady you'll ever meet. Her staff is professional and polite, but the food was not at all what I expected. I ordered the rib dinner which consisted of three full sized ribs plus rib tips or pieces. They were a little dry on the ends, perhaps a bit over cooked so the sauce was a big help to that; I also had double potato salad which was kind of sweet like sugar was in it and it was mashed which is not my preference. My wife had the baked chicken, stuffing, cranberry sauce, yams and Green Beans. The chicken was bland, soggy and over cooked; the cranberry sauce was canned; the stuffing was wet and bland they gave her greens instead of green beans and they were overcooked and mushy when chewed. We shared a mini sweet potato pie which lacked sweetness. Our Kool-Aid was a bit sweet, but drinkable. Our hopes where up for some good soul food, but we were let down. The search continues. read more

Came here based on the reviews. Now being a lover of BBQ I had to try it. Ordered a sliced beef sandwich and my daughter had the link sandwich. The meat was, oh so tender. The sauce spicy. So the food was quality. If you come here expecting a decked out restaurant with comfee booths, table and chairs, then you'll give it a lonesome star. This is a hole in the wall.
