This was the closest restaurant that carried Sausage so, I made a way to Cousin's. I drove up and noticed they had a sign that read by one Sandwich Plate Get one Free! That sounded good. When, I placed my order, the blushing Hispanic girl said," you have to wait til, 4 pm to order. They could not ring me up either. Another girl with Bling nails said, "at 4pm she could place the order in the system. Bummer. I waited a few minutes and noticed it was nice and clean in there with some good Christmas Decor. Prices have increased tremendously and the Menu is handwritten on Brown Butcher paper. It makes it hard to read. I chose the Sausage plate . You can chose what type of bread you would like, White, Wheat, Texas Toast, Bun or no bun. I asked for Wheat but, I got White Texas Toast. It was really good, fresh, lightly toasted and buttered just right. The Sausage was a Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage. It was proportion just right. For a side, I chose Potato Salad. It was a tiny container with chunks of Potatoes and Mayonnaise. I was disappointed with the appearance. There was no site of mustard? The brisket is amazing here. Get it moist if you don't know, that's the way to get it. This the original location so that is why their smokers pump out such great brisket, they have more flavor baked in from years of smoking. Just a little secret. Great art and antiques on display. I hadn't eaten at Cousins since the late 90's. My brother in law wanted to try it so we did. It was nothing like I remember. First the ribs. The sauce flavor was too with a hint of sweetness however the back side of the ribs were fatty. Not just a little fat. Either the ribs weren't trimmed well or the fat wasn't able to render properly due to being pulled off too soon. The brisket was dry as dust. I took one bite and just no. I have never had brisket so dry. The beans were good, a savory flavor, well seasoned. The bread was a large portion and tasted buttery. The potato salad wasn't my personal preference but everyone has their own way of making potato salad and this wasn't it for me. The portion for the price was decent but the food overall just wasn't good. Service was good at the to go counter. I did find it odd that the guy was bragging about being in the bbq business since the 80's but served dry brisket. We won't be back. read more

We ate at the Cousin's in Ft. Worth last night. I ordered the $38 rib eye steak. They slapped a hunk of butter Chipotle on it which I wouldn't have added. Should have been on the side. But the worst of it is, I had to spit out half the bites into a napkin because it was so tough and stringy, even though it came medium rare, that I could only actually swallow half the steak. read more

So I've lived in the neighborhood for almost 2 years and really want to rep Ft Worth I decided to start with BBQ. Now I live only 5mins away and I passed this place over 500 times and never saw it but I YELP'd some BBQ and here they were. So I did a curbside pickup and ordered the 2 meat brisket and ribs with potato salad and Texas corn(that's what they call it) and in 25 mins my order was ready. I think for $22 my beef should have been a little bigger but it was pretty good, nice and tender and flavorful, the ribs though slightly tough was beaming with dry rubbed flavor. It truly was bursting with flavor, the potato salad was bland but I topped it off with the chopped sweet TX onions(assuming of course) but the show stopper was that TX corn!!! Can I tell you I'm not a major fan but this corn exploded with flavor, spice and amazing spicy notes that I will def go back for that 4 sure. read more

This was our 93rd 'cue stop in the Lone Star state, and the 383rd in a BBQ jaunt embracing 35 states. We found the 'cue here to be very good; indeed, we would rate it higher than what is on offer at over a dozen of the places on TMM's list. The menu here offers real strength from top to bottom. $46.02 purchased a brisket and jalapeno sausage sandwich with housemade fries, a Bev's smokehouse salad top with sliced brisket, a second side of Texas street corn, and a banana pudding. The salad was huge, fresh, and topped with brisket that was well smoked, with terrific bark; it was moist and tender even at five in the afternoon. The sausage also proved top notch, with good snap and sharp flavor. Both the fries and the street corn were excellent, and the banana pudding was so good that we went back and got a second order to go. Wow have they improved their brisket and sides. We ordered 2 pounds of sliced brisket last week for a gift for a buddy of ours. Our fingers were crossed. Would Cousins come through? YES!! This place is amazing! After visiting the Ft. Worth botanical gardens, I decided to try out one more BBQ place before we travelled to our next stop. We got there right as they opened, thus beating the crowd. We ordered the Three Meat choice which included 3 slices of brisket, 2 pork ribs and 1 german sausage. We got two sides with that but we wanted to try more so we had coleslaw (of course), collard greens, their creamed corn, and potato salad. All were wonderful. The slaw was especially good. Now, the meats: brisket was tender and very flavorful, the ribs were meaty and tasty, and my wife (the sausage savant) thought the sausage was fabulous. Great service at the order counter (it's a walk-up, order and take to your table place). Friendly and upbeat. Clean and neat. I had my two youngest w me(one who is vegan) & ny elderly mother. The man behind the counter propped up this huge (almost 3lb beef rib) on top of the counter's scale. It looked huge, moist, and nicely smoked. So I took that with 3 sides and we were all stuffed(my daughter fr the mac N cheese). The rest of us off of beef rib sandwiches we made with whole wheat buns. The place was not crowded as it was early afternoon. With two Mexican bottled sodas, water, it came out to about $65. read more

My family and I have been going to Cousin's since the 80s. I got some takeout the other night and I think we've had enough. Cousin's used to be my favorite BBQ. I've heard that the family doesn't own it anymore, and you can definitely tell by how much it's gone downhill. The brisket tasked ok but was super dry and sliced too thin. The prices have gone way up, which I understand since the cost of everything is going up, but it's definitely not worth what you pay as the portions have gone down in size. Side items used to come in a little white styrofoam cup, now they come in a little black plastic cup that is a lot smaller. They only give you one jello shot size thing of sauce per meal, so I usually have to ask for more. They've recently changed the potato salad and it wasn't as good. You can no longer get a quarter white meat chicken, and if you want a three item combo with chicken as one of the meats, then it has to count as two meats because they will only do it by the half chicken. They don't have the choice of side items that they used to have either. They no longer ha e turkey or ham either, both of which I frequently would get. I will say that the broccoli rice casserole and the loaded baked potato are still as good as always. And we really like the smoked wings. Their sauce is great too, it's my favorite BBQ sauce. But sadly it is just gone down too far in quality, gone way up in price, and the portion sizes have gone down. I don't mind paying more for something that is good quality and a good value, but sadly they are neither. I hope they read these comments and try to improve it to how it used to be. read more

Was on my way home and a craving for bbq hit me! The location closest to my home is closed for renovations so to Fort Worth I went! I entered and was immediately greeted and took notice of how clean the establishment was. I got in line and was able to get a glimpse of ribs. I made the decision in that moment that I would be eating ribs AND sliced brisket. I was told that the person in front of me ordered the last of the ribs and that more would be ready in 10 minutes so I decided to dine in. I ordered potato salad and broccoli cheese casserole. For dessert, I grabbed a huge chocolate chip cookie with nuts. I was offered a complimentary drink for my wait which I graciously accepted. My food was brought to the table and the presentation was picture worthy. I bit into the rib and had to use a napkin to wipe the tears of joy running from my eyes. The rib was FLAVORFUL, hot and tender. It's nothing like craving something, getting it and the food hitting the spot! 4 stars? Mostly everything was perfect except the broccoli cheese casserole. The place is famous, they have many pictures on the wall with former presidents and famous people. The meat was really good, they had a good slaw but I wasn't to happy with the broccoli rice option.
