I visited Madea's for the first time on a Thursday while in town visiting family, and I was…read morewelcomed right at the entrance. The hospitality set the tone for a great experience. I ordered the pork chop plate, and the server kindly let me try both a fried pork chop and a smothered one since I couldn't make up my mind. I also had fried cabbage and yams. The cabbage had a little unexpected heat to it, but that's actually the same way my family cooks theirs, so I ended up really enjoying it. One thing that stood out to me was the staff. I'm not sure if the restaurant is always staffed this way, but I was genuinely impressed that all the front-line workers were men -- and every single one of them was courteous, respectful, patient, and mindful of each customer. While I enjoyed my meal, I watched them treat each person who walked in with the same positive energy and attentiveness. If you're in the area, go support this restaurant. The food, the atmosphere, and the service all made my first visit a memorable one.

The young man who answered the phone was very kind and ensured he had my order correct. Even verified I was ok with paying over the phone before he took my order. I arrived about 15 minutes later and once inside the cashier called for my order number then requested to see the card I paid with and my ID. In today's world it's comforting to know there are businesses verifying identity! Kudos!! Once seated at home I opened my container to hot fried catfish, tomatoes and okra, Mac n cheese and hot water cornbread. My first bite of everything was very good and seasoned to perfection. I got so full so quick that I wasn't able to finish but it made for perfect leftovers later that day. On to the desserts! My mom got a slice of pecan pie and I enjoyed the strawberry cake. Both were tasty and prepared perfectly! I will stop in again for fried pork chops when it's time for an off plan meal.

Loved it. We'd been…read moreto the Memphis, TN location about 10 years ago and enjoyed it. Now that we live in the DFW area, it was time to try the Fort Worth location. They are located on a corner and parking is limited. I found street parking on the side street, about a block down in front of a house. We walked inside Gus's about 11:30 am on a Wednesday. They were busy' but had a number of open tables. There are mostly square and rectangular 4-top tables. We chose one by the front windows. A moment after we sat down, our server, Joe K came by to greet us and he took our drink order. Menu's are at the table, so we studied a bit and were ready for Joe when he brought our drinks. I ordered: - Unsweetened Iced Tea - 3 Piece Dark Chicken Plate (my choice: leg, leg, thigh) with Greens and BBQ Beans My wife ordered: 2 Piece White Chicken Plate (breast, wing) with Mac-Cheese and BBQ Beans The chicken was the star for sure. The BBQ Beans weren't special but were decent. The Greens, decent. With each meal plate, the chicken is served on a slice of white bread. The chicken was fried to a deep brown and was real tasty. My dark meat was juicy and tender. My wife's white meat was drier but normal for white meat. My wife's felt the chicken skin was maybe overcooked as it was tough. It was fine to me. I ate her skin :) We'll be back to Gus's!

Everyone's different, not saying they were bad. Just different. And the Mac was not my favorite. Once I saw they pour the bag of Mac n cheese in a heater. Then I was like ahh. I just figured it would be home made like the pies and chicken. Our waiter was sweet and we even had dessert. Recommend the chocolate pie warmed with ice cream. Love. Definitely not too bad. Will come back again. And try different sides.

Yum we made a beeline. Ordered the Chicken Spaghetti and Chicken dumplings with greens and green beans. Along with a side of potato salad. My sis ordered a chopped beef sandwich with green beans and potato salad. The chicken spaghetti arrived first. It was spoiled. literally had to spit it out. My sis tried the green beans and they weren't seasoned one bit. I had to leave. We went straight to counter and I explained there was something wrong with the Chicken Spaghetti and explained it tasted spoiled. I paid for the chopped beef $19.99 and a drink but we left it all on the table. The son followed us out to the parking lot and offered a refund. I explained we were leaving. It was literally the worst soul food/home cooked food experience of my life and as you can see by my many reviews the 1 star here is generous. I wouldn't recommend anyone coming here...seriously it's not just bad but a health safety issue. Drew's....here we come.
