Shocked it took me so long to share this review! While in Arlington, I went here at least 3 times during my 5 day visit. First the staff... they are SO NICE! Dennis was my favorite. He took good care of us and showed us lots of love. They sell BBQ, fried chicken, fish, sandwiches and more. During the course of our visits, we tried the BBQ, the wings and fish. Nothing disappointed. That first day, they were out of BBQ and once we tried it... we understood why. The BBQ is SO GOOD! Fall off the bone meat. The catfish is super crunchy, it might be considered fried hard for some but I like mine that way. The wings were decent. The BBQ is definitely the star of the show. I also got hooked on the daiquiris. I got a blend of all 3 flavor options. So so good, and strong! If I lived in Arlington, this would be my spot. They have a nice chill vibe. And you can tell the people that come in often become like family to the staff. It's like meeting cousins! We searched online for the best catfish in Arlington and for many, this could be it.. I walked in to order two carry-out orders, we ordered the catfish of course, (to see how good it was), and we also got some hot wings with "Heat & Sweet" sauce. Both combos come with one side and a large drink. We ordered French fries and coleslaw, and two fountain drinks. The catfish, it is cut in long strips, nicely seasoned, it is coated thick, and by the coating being tick, it ensures that the catfish stays super crunchy, even after you add lemon and hot sauce, you have a crunchy bite. They are served with two hush puppies, they are crunchy and tasty. Some people may not like the coating thick, for me, maybe I wanted more meat, but the crunchyness really made up for it. The chicken wings are small, so for a full meal I would need at least 10, they were fried just right, wet coated with the sweet and spicy sauce. The french fries were a salty, not extremely, but a bit overly salted. The coleslaw was mildly sweet, crunchy fresh, and seasoned just right. No spoon or fork provided. ****CATFISH IS SWAI Should be called TJ's Swai and Wings! My husband had been wanting to try this place for quite awhile and went in yesterday. Place was packed which of course sometimes can lead you to believe it must be pretty good. Ordered 3 meat plate and Catfish. He was so disappointed and disgusted by the taste, poor quality and misrepresentation of CATFISH with SWAI!! He contemplated talking to someone but it was so many people and it being a black owned business he just left the entire plate at the table and called to tell me of his experience. We know it is hard to succeed and survive as a small business and especially a small Black owned business so he asked that I called to let the management be aware of his experience versus posting a review online. Which in reality would have been the better choice in this businesses case. I called three times before speaking to someone. 1st time put on hold and then the phone hung up. The next two times it hung up each time they said please hold. When I finally reached someone and explained the reason for my call the person identified himself as TJ. TJ is my main reason for writing the review and the second is my husband's complaint of the food. As a business owner, when someone expresses their personal experience you don't say "No one ever says that" "or I have never heard anyone say they didn't like anything!" When obviously based on other reviews there are others who have also expressed their dissatisfaction of the food and/or its quality. He was very arrogant, disrespectful and condescending. Mr TJ try listening and being humble and apologetic if someone contacts you directly about their personal opinion and experience. Great customer service and humility goes a long way as a business owner. Just his entire tone and disposition in this situation (that was intended to be avoided and very well could have been avoided) took the complaint to an entirely different level. I mentioned his false advertisement of CATFISH and asked him directly which he openly admitted was Swai. Some may not know any better but if you have ever eaten real catfish you will immediately know when you are eating Swai. Swai is ILLEGAL to sell in some states due to its significant amounts of failed inspections and health violations. It is also much less expensive than Catfish so to sell it as Catfish is harming and illegal. Customers are cheated when they pay for an higher price and quality of fish but instead receive a fish species of lesser value and quality. The BbQ- brisket was full of fat and it all tasted boiled and then tossed around on the grill to elude to a bbq taste. He did say the sides were "okay" in case you ever want some sides that are "okay" but best option is to get your meats and fish elsewhere! read more

The only reason they brought out our remaining meals was due to us saying something after we observed them giving one exact same meal to a different patron. Extremely dissatisfied with the service here. The BBQ was ok given the price point and worth paying for if the service was better. Brisket was a little dry and the flavors weren't anything to write home about. The ribs were definitely dry but portions were nice. Slaw definitely required more pizzaz; haven't had anything this boring since Popeyes slaw. In all honesty, this place seems to just resonate "good enough because there's no other real competition in the area and people just enjoy the virtue signaling of supporting a local business". Let me tell you that I'm so appalled and in disbelief I just received the worst service from TJ's Catfish/M'Jay's House of Smoke in Arlington off Green Oaks by the owner himself!!! I went inside to order and no one was in line at the time so we stepped aside to read the menu and figure out what we wanted. There was a young lady at the counter taking orders and I asked a question about a menu item and was responded to very dry, ok she seemed very into what she was doing writing on papers at the counter...we allowed several people to go in front of us not holding up the line. We preceded to go up once she was ready to take our order and while I'm giving her my order she's steady writing on the papers and asking me to repeat myself and I could barely hear her as she was focused on the papers. At this point I politely asked her could she focus on taking my order so neither one of us would have to keep repeating ourselves. The owner was behind her pulling orders from the window, turns around loudly and rudely states" do we have a problem"? I preceded to tell him no I only asked could she focus on my order to ensure it's correct and we hear each other out...TJ the owner tells me they're very busy and she was taking an online order and needed to finish it up so she needed to focus on the order so she wouldn't forget anything as if I wasn't placing an order too. TJ continued to go back and forth with me about how good the young lady was at her job which I never discredited her work at all and he knows customer service and saw nothing wrong with what she was doing..... TJ's focus was mainly on how busy he was and never acknowledged her lack of communication/listening to the customer at hand. At the time I didn't recognize he was the owner and asked for a refund and he was like yep I'll refund you whatever!! Never once did he apologize to me or speak with the young lady about her actions and kept making shoulder gestures as if it's like oh well. The type of person I am, if I truly was rude or wrong, I wrong my rights so I apologized to the young lady if she felt I was rude and she said no ma'am you're good I understand where you were coming from but I guess TJ didn't see it that way. To know this is a BOB and I try my hardest to support, this is exactly why I can't and this wasn't my first visit to his restaurant but definitely my last!! My order was a little over $50 but losing a dollar is losing-no mater the amount when it all could've been avoided with a simple accountability and better customer service!
