Worst Indian "Food" ever. The $12 buffet consisted of 8 items, only 4 of which were vegetarian options. The dal was more like a purée or soup, not one lentil was found. The "salad" option was literally shredded lettuce from a bag. The rice pudding was not like any rice pudding I've ever seen or had. It was a straight liquid, no lumps at all. The Chicken Tikka Masala and Garlic Naan were both amazing. My boyfriend got the Lamb Curry, Not Spicy, which he said was really good.

We started with the vegetable samosas and ordered the vegetable curry and saag aloo with garlic naan for dinner. When the waitress asked how spicy on a scale of 1-10 my husband said 7 thinking that was conservative. We both like hot ethnic dishes. She looked a little surprised and questioned to be sure. He downgraded to 5-6 and was glad he did. We thought both meals were flavorful. The samosas were a nice start and we ordered another naan to take with our leftovers. We will have another full meal from it. The staff was friendly and the place was running a steady flow of customers through. We didn't have any problem getting multiple water refills. I have never left a negative review in my life and unfortunately today I was here at this restaurant to meet my friends few hours ago and had the worst experience and customer service. I expect some sort of standard when you go out to eat, the waitress and chef were unprofessional and rude. Where do I start? He refused to take orders for second time while they still served other table. They said they are going to close the kitchen. Messed up our chai order ( served black tea instead of milk tea) and didnt care to change it and when we politely asked if they can atleast serve some water they asked us to get out while other customers were watching us. I have been trying to find an amazing Indian restaurant since moving to this area from the DC area 8 years ago. Finally found it. As an appetizer the samosa chat was so good! We drove all the way from St Augustine to Jacksonville because the lady at this only Indian Restaurant in St Augustine literally yelled at us twice while we were trying to understand the ingredients in our order. Seriously, it's not like that place was swamped at that moment nor there was any person waiting to be seated. She made us feel very unwelcomed and uncomfortable. Please allow me to set the record straight....St. Augustine is extremely lucky to have an Indian restaurant as good as Namaste. Since first having dinner here shortly after moving from New York City, my wife and I have returned several times and frequently tell each other how good the food is and how much we look forward to going back. The dishes are made with genuine care and attention to detail. The presentation of each plate is simple but refreshing. The aromas that accompany the food are literally mouth-watering and the staff/owners are very kind and attentive. Indian cuisine is non-existent in St. Augustine with the exception of Namaste, but don't get me wrong; eating here doesn't mean you have to settle. This is cooking on par with some of the best spots in New York and I highly recommend that everyone try this restaurant. With respect to the review complaining about the lunch buffet not being available on the weekend - this is entirely typical of Indian restaurants. It is a mechanism to drive lunch traffic during normally slow times. Why should hard-working business owners have to discount their product when traffic is more steady? Plus it's better to order the dishes you want made to order anyway! Any previous reviews that dismiss or belittle this establishment were posted by people who have absolutely no appreciation for or understanding of what this is really about. Namaste is an excellent restaurant. Do yourself a favor; try something new. Go there and become familiar with anything on the menu that sounds good, or let the owners help you choose. Namaste came highly recommended to us by someone of Indian origin in our neighborhood. We ate there last night with our 3 adult children, and each of us were extremely pleased! Although it's not fancy, service did not disappoint and all the employees were so friendly. I had the Lamb Korma which was excellent - super tender and so flavorful! My husband's Lamb Kebabs were amazing, as well as all the other dishes around the table. Even though rice was served with each entree, we ordered a veggie biryani for the table, which we shared, and it too was incredible. I started to write a long-winded review explaining that I had been frequenting Indian restaurants since the late 80's and eaten indian food nearly every place I have traveled but then I realized you're probably driving to Namaste as you read this and I figured I better cut to the chase so you can keep driving and EAT AT ANY OTHER RESTAURANT. Let me start with the food: IT'S HORRIBLE. This is canned (Patak's?) sauce at it's worst. I ordered Lamb Korma and the sauce was sickeningly sweet and flavorless. I have mistakenly used canned sauce at home and I can tell you this is what they are selling as something they made in house. Regardless of where it came from IT'S CRAP and nothing like it should be. Besides the sauce being horrible the lamb was way overcooked and gristley to boot, all for $14.00. My friend ordered a Dal dish that was nothing more than a bowl full of gelatinous goo with colored bits which could only be presumed to be vegetables. When I asked the owner if it would't be better to add some fresh veg to the Dal and he snottingly said 'that's how it's supposed to be'. Well if 'how it's supposed to be' is multicolored goo poured out of a can and into a bowl for a fee of $12.00 then count me out. If you're not already diverting from a visit to Namaste let me tell you the naan was equally disappointing and factory made. The one mistake I didn't make and that was to order one of my favorite drinks, Mango Lasse, which I ALWAYS order at Indian restaurants but did not do so here because it was $5.00!!! Ridiculous and insulting. In addition to the crap food, we were also completely forgotten during the meal despite there being only one other patron and had to go half the meal without water. One of my biggest peeves when dining out. Oh and we both felt ill after our meal requiring an aperitif of Pepto Bismol chugged straight out of the bottle. Clearly these folks should not be anywhere near the business of serving food. Hopefully by now you have past Namaste by en route to another restaurant deserved of your hard earned money. The manager/owner (he was a guy) was extremely rude over the phone when we had contacted them to place a catering order during our 1 week stay in St. Augustine with several families (Xmas 2017). I tried them on the phone thrice on different days to see if they would be willing to take on the business to cater food on multiple days but he refused and was way impolite shocking me as a customer! He snapped at my questions and even banged the phone at me... ! We did not order from this restaurant but as a customer, if I could give a negative rating on Yelp for the experience - I would do that! My husband & I visited he Namaste because we love good Indian food. The restaurant is clean. The quality of the food is acceptable but the service is lacking. The plates were stone cold so the food was cold when it was served. The rice came spread out on a dinner plate instead of being in a bowl which would have kept it warmer. The prices are high compared to other ethnic restaurants. The papadams are $2.00. They are free in most other Indian Restaurants. There are better Indian restaurants in Jacksonville if you want really good food. read more

We were asked how hot we wanted our curry form 1-10, 10 being hottest I said 5. We ordered a mixed vegetable curry and naans since we were only two people. curry was undercooked, you could only taste turmeric and no other masalas plus no salt. We found Namaste when searching on line for an Indian restaurant. We gave it a try and have now fallen in love with there fresh ingredients and absolutely fantastic flavors. We order the lamb almost every time we go. It is always cooked fresh and tender. It melts in your mouth and it's perfectly seasoned. We usually choose our meals with mild spices. We asked the owner the last time we were there how he gets his lamb so tender and flavorful. He explained they only use fresh lamb that he filets himself, because of this your food is always cooked to order. Their chicken and vegetables have always come out perfectly cooked and seasoned. There naan bread is incredibly delicious and is made in a traditional tandoori oven. We feel the prices are very good based on the quality of food. We often think of it as having our own personal Indian chef, that's how fresh the food is. This is a family owned business and the owners are very nice and work hard to make sure we are always satisfied. We try to come at least once a week. Namaste is an awesome find for anyone who enjoys authentic Indian food. read more

I love indian food. I have tried multiple dishes there and although it may not be the best most authentic food its worth it nonetheless. It has its own flare and is much better than any other corporate chain crap around (and theres a lot of that). It takes a lot of guts to cook home-made "ethnic" food in a not so diverse area. I appreciated the good and kind service and the fact that the food was not overly greasy (as a lot of "good" indian tends to be). My bowels agreed. Very good food. Much variety. Everything was top notch, except the Mango Lassi, which I think was made with a powered mix. I had Lamb Pathia. It was spicy and sweet and really wonderful. My son had Chicken Madras. He ate every bit of it with alacrity. My wife had Lamb Biryani. It was really great too! Everybody loved their meal. We will definitely go back again. I was watching what came out to the other tables. It all looked good and smelled good, especially one dish that came out sizzling and smelled heavenly. The only reasons I wouldn't give a five here is the Lassi and my meal portion and my son's meal portion were just enough for one meal with nothing left over. The food is amazing and incredibly authentic. However, our server was so rude that we all felt uncomfortable. I went to dinner with two of my girlfriends. But since we are all in our early twenties, I'm sure the waitress assumed we wouldn't tip well and therefore treated us with very little respect. First, we asked to be moved to a different table because we were directly under a fan and we were sat awkwardly in the middle of the room. We all work in a restaurant and I knew that it wasn't busy enough for it to be a problem (there were only 3 tables sat). However, when we politely asked to be moved, the server said "that is not possible" even though there were several tables open and no wait. She also snapped at my friend by saying "what exactly do you want from me" when she asked how spicy a dish was. It was so rude that it made all of us want to leave right then. Then she didn't come back to the table until the very end (never refilled our drinks). We asked her to please split the checks. Her response: "uhh, that's too complicated because I don't remember what you guys ordered...so no." Excuse me but YOU WROTE IT DOWN, you moron. We all got very simple dishes so it would not have been difficult to separate the checks. Also, only one of us had cash so two of us ended up paying the whole thing and splitting it right down the middle. We then asked if we pay up front or if we wait and she just said a response so fast and rushed off that we had no idea what she said. So we went to the front and complained to the owner. But our server was his wife. So obviously, he didn't really care how rude she was. He also over charged us. The check was $50 (with tax) and me and my friend each had to pay $27. We knew the math was wrong but we were so frustrated that we just paid that amount and left. I LOVE the food but honestly, it's not worth the stress of dining there.
