Dr. Choi and his team are the best! I was in and out of there for my annual visit in about 25 minutes. Didi covers the check in process and is super friendly and kind. She also does a great job going over insurance coverage prior to the visit so there are no unexpected surprised. Since I was here a year ago, we just had to make sure my prescription hasn't changed and do some quick basic eye checks. Easy peasy! Dr. Choi gave me some contacts to take home to get me through the next couple days until my order comes in. A friend recommended this place, but the doctor refused my prescription printed from LensCrafters' site because it wasn't signed by another doctor. He either doesn't trust me that I'm bringing my own prescription and not someone else's or is mired in the previous century when electronic medical records were not readily available. Despite having all the necessary information, he decided I wasn't worth his time. The helpful young lady couldn't change his mind, and now he's wasted my time. He won't get another chance. read more

I think Dr. Choi is amazing and very good at what he does but I don't think the employees that work there are that friendly at all. I felt like some of them were a bit snobby. The two African American women who work there are fantastic but the rest just tend to give off uncomfortable, snobby vibes and I think everyone that comes into this location to see Dr. Choi should have friendly and optimistic attitudes because Dr. Choi is incredible. I just have to be honest about my latest experience there. I picked up a pair of glasses and the lady at the front desk told me to go over to the next desk for the lady to help me and once I got there, I wasn't even greeted with a, "hi how can I help you?" This is the Caucasian woman with glasses that always looks like she has the biggest attitude problem ever. I can confirm what others are saying regarding the staff being rude. I showed up 10 min early to my appointment only to be told, with a EYE ROLL, that they had double booked because I didn't confirm my appointment. Only thing is, I DID confirm my appointment, evidently they don't check their email. They suggested I had emailed a "do not reply" inbox. The email said, "please reply to this email to confirm." They absolutely did not admit to any mistakes or apologize. I will not be doing business with this location or any MyEyeDr location. read more

As someone who used to work in eyecare, I understand how mundane the job can be and how impolite patients can be. However, after calling to confirm an appointment I made, without a doubt, I was met with an accusatory and defensive tone by the employee who answered. Neither one of us was at fault for what seems to be an issue with their system, but I was offered no real support to fix my scheduling issue. They didn't even offer to help me reschedule, which is the bare minimum for their position. read more

I was asked to be seated on a backless rolling stool to take pictures of my retina and check for glaucoma. I'm 60 & have balance problems. When I expressed my concerns to the young woman, she was annoyed. I have never had this experience anywhere else in all the years I'm gone for eye exams. I work in healthcare & it's a huge liability to allow a patient to do so because of fall risk. Poor business practice to say the least. The staff were not the warmest bunch I've come across. No small talk, not very friendly, affable or welcoming. They need a course in customer service 101. The optometrist was a jerk. I found him to be curt and arrogant. When I asked him to repeat a question he hadasked me, he was persnickety when he responded. Did I mention dismissive as well? Overall not a great experience. Avoid this office. I came in today for the first time after setting up an appointment 5 days ago and I'm so glad I did! I got in and out within 30 minutes (I had my yearly eye exam and ordered new contact lenses). The front desk was attentive and friendly, the doctor was helpful, informative and he even corrected my eye contacts prescription. My previous eye doctor told me that I had astigmatism when in fact, I do not, so I've been paying extra money for this special contact lens for no reason. The woman who helped me order contacts after I was done with the doctor was really friendly and informative - she let me know exactly how much I would pay for my appoint and contact lenses - she even price matched eye contacts so I wouldn't have to order from online to save money (my usual go-to is ordering contacts online). One visit to this place and they will relentlessly stalk you every month to come and buy junk, eyeglass appointments, FSA spending, sales, more unneeded appointments, dare ask them to stop calling and a month later you will get called again. I've not done business with this horror of a company in over 2 years because the store manager at this store SUCKS, he's the picture of incompetence, 5 months of going back weekly to get the correct frames, correct lenses, correct ear buds, nothing could be done correct on the first visit. They have no problem taking your money but good luck getting them to follow through. Then the calls start, take a survey, you're due for a visit, we have a sale, bring in your family, every month they have something going. I asked for the calls to stop, they didn't, so I called and reported them to the do not call registry, they continued to call but then added text messages in. Don't do business with these assholes or give them any personal information as they cannot be trusted with it and frequently violate HIPPA giving out personal info to people whom don't have a signed release on file. I am very disappointed in my experience at myeyedr. I have had dozens of glasses made over the years and have never had a problem. After trying the glasses for a few days and having trouble with objects in the distance being blurry, I confirmed my Rx with their onsite optometrist and the glasses were remade with a wider focal channel and the addition of an anti-glare feature for an additional charge. But distances remain blurry, making reading street signs difficult and I was told that it is not the glasses and no effort to correct the lenses will be made. I will never use myeyedr again and will try to grind through the rest of the year until my new vision benefit year starts in January. read more

This place loves to gouge you for as much as they can. I went here to get a prescription for contacts. During the eye exam I was asked if I wanted to do an extra test for $40, which I declined. When discussing contacts with the representative she said that I can't order contacts online, which is a flat out lie - the only reason I was there was to get a prescription so I could order them online. She had a major attitude with me since I made it clear I wasn't going to be buying anything from them. My husband had his eyes checked and was told he had 20/20 vision and they still asked him if he wanted to buy glasses "just for the computer". I don't get the vibe that this place cares about my health or well being and they really only care about selling contacts, glasses, and services to you as much and as many as they can. read more

This place is just OK. I think the doctor was pretty good nice enough and listen to my concerns. However the office staff is lackluster and not very capable. When I called to order contact lenses the person that took the car was very cryptic and made me feel like she didn't really know what she was doing. I called a week later just to be sure that they have been ordered and the same lady that answered the phone says "yeah I order all the contacts." Not sure how I was supposed to know that. This was the only place my insurance covered. The doctor was fantastic the service was fantastic the first pair of glasses were not what I ordered. It took another three weeks before the second pair came in so I had to deal with an old pair of glasses for over a month. So i finally went to get my eyes checked after a couple years and this was among the closest to me. I actually educated more than i ever recall from previous eye exams. The staff was great and Dr. Choi was thorough in ensuring i was given the best prescription. At no point did I feel as though he was rushing and took the time to answer any questions or address any concerns. Also a big plus they had another testing procedure which eliminated that test done with a puff of air in your eyes. That was a big plus. read more

I brought in a pair of sunglasses to have the lenses replaced with prescription ones. They made an error on the prescription, and then it took another week for the error to be corrected. I needed the glasses for a trip, and they failed to have them ready when I needed them. This was the second time this has happened when I ordered glasses/lenses at this location. I thought the first occurrence was an outlier--apparently not. Both times, the person waiting on me when I went to pick up the glasses claimed the prescription lens was correct, both times it was not. No apology, nothing, just attitude. I have been going to MyEyeDr for years at several locations. I recently just moved a few years ago to Lakeview. Conveniently, this location is across the street from me which is very ideal. First I want to say the doctor is outstanding the staff is the most unorganized, rude and unprofessional I have EVER Encountered. I had gotten a bad batch of contacts that kept chipping and I called this morning and they said very nicely they would give me three pairs that were destroyed. I go later today to pick them up and they give me three contact lens. What am I gonna do with the third period the girl gives me a snooty look and says if I order it, it won't be here till 90+ days but you can call another location but I can't do that for you. First off I'm not stupid and wasn't born yesterday. I first of all would like to be taken care of, and secondly know that I will never be returning to this establishment, not because of the doctor, who I said, was very kind and knowledgeable, but because of the extremely rude and unprofessional staff. I encourage the regional Director to do a visit there because this is a serious ongoing issue. read more

I have been to many opticians as I have worn glasses for 40 years. I just moved to Chicago and these guys are close to me. I am sure the optometrists are great - but the staff are truly awful. I called today to make an appointment as a new client. Derek really had zero interest in me until I told him not to bother when he went in to major reversal mode. The previous 'interrogation' for my insurance details was enough to tell me to give these guys a wide berth. I get you need the information but there are definitely ways to ask the questions! and when I asked if I could bring the couple of items of information I didn't have to hand with me when I come in he said 'we have to make sure you have benefits before we see you". Well Derek here is some news for you. I have insurance and I have a choice of where to go. I called another supplier on our insurance program - Eye Appeal. The experience could not have been more polar opposite to Spex - they needed the same information but just did it is a respectful and friendly way and suggested I bring the final pieces of information with me when I have my appointment! I have been to different Spex locations before in the suburbs and those were fine so I thought I visit my local one that was pretty close to where I live. The overall vibe of the staff was very inattentive - they were more concerned with working on tasks in front of them (looking at their computers or invoices or whatever) instead of helping the customers in the store. Besides myself, there was only one other customer who was in the store that was being assisted for picking up glasses. I would figured that if the staff saw a customer that wanted to try on glasses behind a locked case that would be an indicator that they are at the point where they need assistance or more interaction from the staff. I was originally hopping I could find a pair of glasses here but the lack of customer service is a big turn off so I'd rather go to D/Vision optical where I got my last pair of glasses (plus they have a better selection). read more

I have been a Spex - Lakeview customer for 8 years as I live around the corner and they have provided not only convenience but decent service. However, my most recent experience (Feb. 2016) has forever made me an ex-customer of Spex. An unexpected death happened in the family and that same day I damaged one of the temples of my glasses. I went in to Spex to see what my options were for either fixing the glasses, obtaining a temporary pair, or purchasing a new pair (at that point I would have spent any amount of money). I explained the situation and how I needed glasses for the next few days as my contacts were not cutting it anymore with all the emotion. I was met with "Sorry, we cannot do anything. We can order a new pair and they'll be here next week?" No effort was made for additional ideas. No effort was made to contact other stores. I may as well have not made the effort to walk to the store. Goodbye Spex. I'll be taking me and my family to another company. read more

Love love love love love Spex! I wandered in last week to check out frames with a friend. After wandering around the store and Derek patiently watching me try on all the frames I thought I liked (and subsequently hated) he pulled one pair and told me to just try them. They're fantastic! I wound up purchasing them - Seraphin Harrison frames in the brown shade. Never has a pair of glasses looked so good on me! And overall I just had a wonderful experience with them setting up everything, they were thorough with taking measurements and everything to ensure the glasses are perfect. I got them a few days later and I am just thrilled with them. I will definitely be back to Spex the next time I need frames. Bonus points: Derek emailed me a few days after I picked up my frames to check in and make sure I was happy. A+ read more

The exam itself was fine. The doctor then led me to check-out and figure out next steps with a man who was not only rude but belittling and patronizing. I had trouble understanding the two insurance options I was presented with and when I asked for an explanation of the differences, he simply got louder and read the same information from the sheet. I work long hours, so I was going to have a friend pick up a replacement tip for me. I received a call from the doorman of my apartment building at 8:30 p.m. that evening, informing me that a package was dropped off for me from Spex. Derek not only hand-delivered my replacement tip to my door(!) but he included it in a pretty little gift box with new cleaning cloths, a bottle of lens cleaner and a handwritten, personal note card! Wow! I was blown away by my experience here! First of Dr. Ursetta is fantastic...she talks you through the whole exam so you know what's going on. She's thoughtful and thorough. I've never had another eye doctor check me for color blindness. Then the staff were SUPER helpful (Debbie and the guy with the long hair). Debbie patiently went through each case with me to pick out which frames, then they BOTH helped me decide from the 10 or so we had picked out. Then they brought a third person in to give the final opinion between the two finalist. You may be thinking, "wow, this chic is indecisive!" and you'd be right, but at least I know that at my age, it's best to let younger people who work in that field pick out what's best for you, especially when it's a big investment that you wear on your face everyday..... oh yeah, and it is a big investment, even with insurance it will still cost you a pretty penny, but again, you are wearing these on your face EVERYDAY....you had better LOVE them. read more

It's always a breath of fresh air to receive service from people who 1) are very good at what they do, 2) enjoy their work , and 3) are attractive. The staff at Spex are all of the above. As long as they are not with another client, they always greet me as soon as I walk in and are very helpful. They are respectful of my time and always get me out efficiently. And they are very fashionable. From my first walk-in visit to look for a new frame, Chris helped me find the perfect frame based on my facial features and preferences. He is a perfectionist and a professional in every way. When my glasses arrived from the lab, they called and said there was a small scratch on the lens so they were sending it back because it did not meet their standards. During my fitting, Chris went above and beyond to make sure that they fit perfectly. My frame broke last week, so I brought it in to get it repaired. They looked at it and said that they would replace it free of charge. It took a few days to order the frame because they did not have my exact model in stock. But he called when it arrived and replaced my lens and refitted me in less than ten minutes! The cost of glasses may be slightly more than other places, but it's because they carry mostly high-end designer frames (fortunately, I have vision insurance). But regardless, the service here is exceptional. read more

I have never had a better experience with eyecare. I've been wearing glasses since I was a kid, so I've been to lots of private practices and cheapo stores alike. Spex takes the cake. Dr. Ursetta was so friendly and courteous, and the opticians are amazing. Jessica was my optician, and it was like having a personal shopper, insurance expert, and friendly professional all in one. I can't recommend her highly enough. All the opticians and employees are amazing. Personal attention and not feeling lost in the benefits process was so nice. The frame selection is outstanding - lots of colorful and modern styles. Dr. Ursetta truly cares about your eye health and it shows. She takes great care of contact lens wearers, especially with sensitive eyes. Their hours are fabulous, the optical help is spectacular, and the eyecare is top notch. It's definitely not cheap, but it's worth it. read more

This is my 3rd eye exam of my life at the age of 34. I was recommended to Dr. Ursetta by a friend and could NOT be happier. She took her time to walk me through the process and explain all of their exams, including why their exams cost more than my insurance allows. I don't mind paying the extra costs when someone takes the time to explain to me how and why they do this additional exam. They charge a little more to measure my pupillary distance, but again took the time to explain the process. In addition, I did not feel pressured to purchase anything and they assured me if I purchased glasses outside of Spex, I could bring them into the store and check the prescription, informing this was in the extra cost. I actually don't like to put negativity out there in the the universe but I'm sorry I just did not like my experience with this store. I LOVE the doctor she is great!! The staff are unfortunately are the opposite. I've been wearing glasses since I was seven,I have only experienced great things with all my eye doctors and their staff. BUT WITH SPEX every time I've set foot in the Spex on Broadway the staff are congregated behind the one desk, or sitting at their desks and LITERALLY do not even look up!! or knowledge you as you walk through the door (9 feet away). This is tolerable in some way...so I continue to go. but.... My reason for leaving them completely is my last transaction. I called to get my Contact prescription emailed. Guy on phone, "We can't because of HIPA laws" ME, "ok understandable, but I cannot do fax either so ...hummmm ok can you mail them? Guy on phone, "ok yeah, what is your address?" ME- I give my address Guy on phone - in an annoyed tone,"that is just up the street" ME- "I'm out of town and I need to get them to someone who can email them to me" Guy on the phone, with an audible annoyed sign, "it will be mailed" THEN HANGS UP ON ME!!!! Sorry you do not know that there is a dying member in my family and I needed to be out of town for an undetermined time...I guess I should have told you 'guy on phone' that info I guess its relevant. OK got it. Good luck guys! Bummer you don't like your job. Maybe reconsider working with people in a medical field if you cannot check your judgement at the door, or demonstrates ANY quality customer service. (I work in customer service for 10 years I know how it goes) And Just an FYI ITS not price, product or location it is truly the service. Additionally for a store in such a progressive location, that is staffed with millennials that should be environmentally conscious, they leave every (I'm not lying) EVERY light on 24-7.
